    In 2013 I bought mine from Amazon for $351 including tax. I absolutely love it. I often watch new and rewatch older YT videos on how to use it in order to be problem-free. I also do not use the foot pedal, but I like having the option. I love the thread cutter. I initially had trouble using the automatic needle threader, so I didn't use it for 10 years. Last year my eyesight got much worse, so I scoured YT and found a FANTASTIC video on how to use it. The video is titled, "Singer Automatic Needler Threader (Esteem II)" and the camera is practically kissing the threader and needle plate to show how to use it correctly.
    May you (and every owner) continue to enjoy your Singer Quantum Stylist 9960. Happy sewing!

    I didn't know I needed a down-and-dirty review, but now I'm really grateful fate has brought me here. Thank you!

      I'm so glad it was helpful! It has a bunch of fun features that I don't bother to learn until it's time to use them. Recently, I learned how to sew on buttons with the machine!! It was a highlight of my day.

      @@KatieMakesStuff I'm new at sewing and started with ancient Bagat Visnja, thinking I don't need all the bells and whistles of newer machines. The problem is that there is so much inertia to do any task, so it just takes away time from the creative process and eats up your energy. I have so many exciting projects for me and my wife, half done, just because this or that went wrong and could not be done with acceptable quality. But at least now I know what bells and whistles are important. Button and button holes sewing was a big thing for me too. I learned it very fast as I had to rework a dress that can be buttoned from the side, for my friend that had breast cancer surgery and just could not lift her arms. I was so proud that I could do it during her visit to our home.

    I’m glad this machine works for so many people. I have had the worst time with different singers, not lasting more than 2-3years, only sewing lightweight garments. It wasn’t until I saw a sewing machine technician take apart a brother, singer, Janome and a Bernina and babylock, to compare how their built. His conclusion which we could see ourselves, is that the Janome, Bernina and babylock machines have quality parts that singer and brother don’t have, he said that the latter machines would need less maintenance than the others and last a lot longer, and that you do get what you pay for. I really took his advice, knowing that he did not sell sewing machines, but he did sell used ones that people didn’t want anymore, he uses them for parts or sells them. It’s sad now, that he no longer does this anymore.
    Since his advice I bought a Janome and it has out lasted any singer I’ve had, except for my 1970 singer made in Italy and everything is metal inside, negative side of it, it’s frigging heavy.

    I have this machine and really like it! I taught my granddaughter to sew and she loves it too. You both have a relaxed approach to sewing which makes it more fun! Thanks for the video!

    I purchased my machine in Jan 2019 for $260!!! Before all its popularity and price hikes. I'm never one ahead of the curve LOL It is a GREAT machine and very versatile! Minimal maintenance.

    I love and learned to sew on Singer machines. When i upgraded my singer HD i was looking at this machine. Unfortunately i ended up with the Janome 4120 which is very similar to this machine except much more expensive. If i had to do it over again, i would have definitely gone with this machine.

      I'm super happy with this machine! If I could figure out how to mount it flush with the table it would probably be about perfect.

      I absolutely LOVE my machine! It's almost stupidly easy to use, thread, change the bobbin, etc. And the button start/stop just makes it so easy to sew on the floor if I want to. Hopefully you'll love yours too! GOOD LUCK!!

    I bought this machine in 2008 or 2009 when it first came out and I've made 20-30 quilts on it already and so anything else needs to be sold I really like it

    Great review, this covers all the important stuff that I personally would want to know, LOL who gives a c@#p about all the fancy embroidery stitches, the fact that this can punch through upholstery leather and not care was the one question I wanted answered! over the years I have had 5 or so Singers. Have tried other brands but they always sh*&% themselves after 2 seconds. I'm struggling to find the EXACT motor size this has online... but knowing singer, and going by this awesome review, it must be more than adequate. So good to see that since 1851 Singer is still producing good machines, and hasn't sold the good name for high production of rubbish. Thankyou

      I think some of the entry level machines aren't so hot, but this one has been a workhorse for me. And not needing a pedal is just so dang convenient!

      @@KatieMakesStuff my little Kenmore is great for making light crafty things. However, it resists sewing over a few layers of light cotton fabric... so, I need to upgrade. How is yours with multiple layers or hemming jeans etc.?

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hemming jeans gets a little tough, especially around the side seams but it's done well with just about everything else. I can even sewing upholstery leather if I have leather needles

      I still love it! I have to clean out the thread cutter occasionally but considering I'm not good with regular maintenance, it's amazing it works at all. I had no idea it had a mirror imaging feature!!

    This would be perfect for me. I use a Singer machine which is operated by turning the wheel. And a electric with a pedal. But my feet are paralyzed so it is horrible to operate for me. This is going on my wishlist.

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolutely love this machine and if you have foot problems, I think it would be perfect! It can be tough adjusting the speed on the fly, especially if you have to use both hands to hold the fabric. But I've gotten pretty used to that and try to plan ahead before getting started.
      It can be a little pricey but you may be able to get one used from Amazon or eBay. I hope you're able to find one!

    • @KatieMakesStuff

      Unfortunately, it doesn't. With leather needles, it can go through upholstery leather, but nothing thicker than that.
