Thanks, I grabbed a couple old rusty axe heads from my dads shed this week. Hoping to clean them up and make some bushcraft axes. It’ll be my first attempt, thanks for the useful video.
Absolutely. New axes are great, but a restored vintage American axe is my first choice. Feel free to ask any questions or give your 2 cents also. Good luck man.
Just a heads up Richard, I'm giving this axe away on February 12th. If you watch my latest video you'll get the details on how to enter the giveaway. Hope you join the fun, good luck!
Thanks for the simple video. I have an old axe that I wanted to clean up a bit - I don't want to buy any special chemicals or tools for it and just wanted a quick fix to restore it with what I have on hand.
What was the 1st grit sandpaper did you use on the blade? And was that a ball peen hammer to bring the eye of the hatchet farther down on the handle? Last question, what size was that C clamp did you use with that piece of leather? I just found your channel so thank you for this in depth video 🙏🙏
great job! i've started buying, fixing and reselling axes lately and I'm having a ton of fun with it. such soothing work. i was wondering, what is that tool you used to deposit oil in the eye called?
I'm looking for an ax to cut some of my old dead trees down. From my research it sounds like i should look for an old ax and restore it instead of by a new one. What type should I look for?
I’ve tried wax and have begun to love it. Started w carnauba car wax on handles. Grippier and easy to keep clean. But I have no idea if it’s better than oils or not so please reply….it’s been a year and it’s seems significantly better but I’m ignorant on subject in general

You should of pulled out the wedges and did the gimmick you did but with a file then soaked the head in blo thenx did a new Wooden wedge and then redo the metal wedge as well .
I really enjoy going back and watching the earlier videos truly enjoy the content every time
Excellent tutorial. Doing these things is just how I restore axes. I also love picking up cheap axes from yard sales.
Excellent! Thank you for using common workshop tools without having to use expensive professional grinders and gadgets. Perfect!
You did a really nice job on that axe and it came out gorgeous. I will treasure it forever!
Thanks man. Hope you enjoy it! Check your email again for the code.👍
Thank you for not turning this into some fake shiny crap. This looks real and awesome! I am tempted to use fire on my handle.
I neglected my new Gränsfors Bruk axe and started developing rust spots. Thank you for this!
Glad it helped. What gransfors did you go with?

Beautiful restoration. How long did you file the bit for?
Why raw linseed oil vs boiled?
Just bought 2 rusty old wood choppers , think it would be ok to just chop a couple inches off the shaft and re hang?
Will teak oil work as good as linseed oil?

Good work . Really enjoyed your work . Do you want to spare the axe for an enthusiast?.
I would certainly consider it.

Brother of your gonna do it ,then do it right. Take the head off and re-wedge it. That head is gonna come loos after a few chops.
The only way is to just put a new handle on the bit. Stop jerkin us around, my guy.
The head was wobbling after you reseated it no?
No
