Repotting & read they prefer 5” wide x 8” deep pots. Mine has doubled in a year in a pot this size. Noticed the soil wasn’t draining, so repotting. I think bottom watering isn’t great for Calathea’s(?), in my 1 yr experience. Lol
I got 2 ,i started out with 1 then divided it its doing really good 1 of the pots is throwing out new leaves the other has just threw out a new leaf really looking good
Thank you!! Yeah, it wasn’t in too bad of shape! I use the spray as my leaf cleaner lol it helps keep pests away too since they don’t like the neem oil ☺️
I have 2 rattlesnake an a dottie that are doing awesome. I actually just got a medallion today at lowes. Clearance. Looks sad BUT has 2 new leaves coming up to unfurl. So its not dead. I sprayed the captain jacks an have apart from other plants. Tomorrow i will more thorough after watching ur video.
I love Calatheas a lot. The more experience I get, the more I love them! A make up brush works great after spraying. I like to think I’m rubbing away any eggs that could be there 😁😂
It looks so much happier now! I have a Lancifolia (rattlesnake) and a Makoyana (peacock/cathedral), and a Maranta Leuconeura. I had an Ornata (pink pinstripe), but sadly it died. I had them all inside, but they didn't do well at all. I moved them outside (Florida, covered patio) and they are thriving year-round. I would have every single variety if I had the space.
Thank you! I can’t wait to watch it grow! I hope I can keep it happy 😊 I definitely love them so much! Marantas are some of my favorites! I definitely want a rattlesnake one too! They’re so pretty! I’m sure they love that Florida weather! 😍
Anytime I've bought plants from Lowe's or Walmart I've had to report because they have been so waterlogged ,that l have been so afraid of root rot they normally bounce back
I just got one of these plants and I need all the knowledge I can get haha is there a way to prevent pests right off the bat? Like something to spray the moment you repot? I haven’t had any pests with any of my other plants which is great but it makes me nervous to eventually get them and not know how to handle them…new plant mother over here too 😂😅 just found your channel too!! Love it :)
Aww thank you so much!! I love calatheas and I know they’re a spider mite magnet! I do my best to check over at the store but if I find any then I try to wipe off the leaves as best as possible and I use a miticide like azamax for active mites. It’s the only thing that’s worked for me to get rid of them! It’s a little expensive but the small one isn’t too bad but it’s worth it to save my plants! Spider mites are my main pest issue I get for some reason they love my home. You can use neem oil as a preventative but I find it useless to get rid of them once you have them. I check the plant leaves over for my plants that are more prone to them when I water and just try to stay proactive and on top of catching them early and then I’ll treat and isolate the plant! One treatment usually works with the miticide. I also use bonide systemic in the soil to prevent all other plant pests. It doesn’t work against spider mites but it will work with the others. I sprinkle it in the soil and water it in. It is a pesticide but I’d rather use it and try to prevent pests the best I can. Pests can be scary and it’s hard to know what you’re looking for. Sometimes you still get them no matter what and it happens but I definitely am very involved in my plant care lol 😆 and welcome to the plant world!! I love them so much!! 🥰🥰🥰
He looks gorgeous! I currently have only 1 Calathea who's been pretty easy going and I'd love to start a Calathea collection soon! Are there any that you'd recommend for beginners? Thank you in advance🤍
Hi! Thank you!! They are more picky plants but if you don’t have a maranta yet, those ones are easier in my opinion! Also, a Ctenanthe lubbersiana isn’t very picky at all and mine has been happy in normal humidity 🥰
Thanks for watching and supporting!

I have seven calathea in my collection and love all of them very much. I collect rain water for my plants and they are doing great in my care.
Yay!! So happy to hear that!! 💚🥰
I actually just found a huge one today at Walmart of all places. 🙂
🙌🏼🙌🏼 yay!!
I have a calathea Dottie and its getting real crispy so I will be getting a humidifier cause its a pretty babe!
I love how your cat supervised by the sink. Every dang cat, in every single home, assumes the role of manager of all the things.
Haha yes!! I have 3 of them total and they’re always supervising 😂🤣

I'm just starting out with plants so I'm trying to learn all I can so I have positive results
Yes!! That’s how I learned!! I watched TH-cam videos nonstop lol that’s why I wanted to start a channel. I love helping others! ☺️

Is it normal to be that rough with the plant?
This was the most non-informative video on plants I ever saw. So much I could say was wrong with this video but to much to list.
Thanks so much! Such a lovely comment! It’s actually *too much to list
