The real tragedy is the victims and it taking so long to expose the perpetrators' horrible deeds.
While they could have helped others from being victimized - some may have tried to say something but were not believed encouraged. Also, you completely fail to misunderstand the dynamic of how, especially children, are manipulated to silence. Even for adults there are ways to manipulate them into silence and especially when the abusive person is connected/wealthy/powerful. Abusive people have an expertise in mental manipulations that you just can not understand unless you have seen and learned it firsthand.
A lot of it is embarrassment. People don't to admit when they've been taken advantage of. It's embarrassing and hurts your pride. No one (myself included) wants to admit they fell for a scam or an abuser/user.
Jared Fogle - He made people believe he just wanted to enjoy Subway & lose weight. Turns out he was a monster.
That was a huge shock to those of us who grew up with the commercials. Someone who is a complete monster
His meteoric rise, and downfall were both the result of his efforts getting into smaller pants.

The fact that there were people at the BBC who knew what saville was for decades and what he was doing makes it even worse.. because they chose to keep a monster like that on television because of his popularity instead of digging deeper into what they were hearing about him or just flat out covering it up.

One name I knew; Rolf Harris. I did enjoy seeing him on the BBC programme Animal Hospital, and heard three of his songs that I later found out "Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport", "Two Little Boys" and "The Court of King Caractacus" as a boy. Until 2013-2014, when his abuse allegations came out.
And I thought that song was an oddball jam. Just yikes

Like it or not, Picasso, Edison, Cosby, and Barnum are figures who are too legendary to "cancel." Myth always outstrips reality.
Not sure about the U.S, but elsewhere Cosby had been fairly irrelevant for years prior to being exposed. Certainly not legendary or taught in schools, unlike Picasso and Edison.

Lou Pearlman is an amateur compared to the Warner Bros CEOs rhat ripped off Van Halen . Van Halen's contract was a ridiculous high interest loan to pay for the band's first album and touring expenses . The band member's first royalty checks were about $90 each - yeah ninety dollars . By the time the band finished their first tour they already owed Warner Bros another album . And they owed them more money . The Van Halen brothers continued to live in their little house in Pasadena because they couldn't afford to get their rock star mansions . They were forced to move out when their home got burglarized .
