Watch real terrestial TV (DVB-T) on your smartphone with 10$ RTLSDR USB dongle and 2$ AerialTV app!

- Sometimes you need to watch TV channels on your smartphone (sports etc.) but there is no streaming available. This solution will let you do it in 5 minutes and costs 15$
What do you need to watch DVB-T on your mobile :
- smartphone with USB On-The-Go port
- RTL-SDR USB dongle with R820T chip inside (consult sellers in chineese shops for availability of R820T, other chip - R820T2 does not work !)
- rectractable antenna ( telescopic whip antenna or telescopic dipole ) fitting dongle antenna connector
- application AerialTV and SDR driver from Google Play app shop (shareware will let you watch only 5 minutes, full version costs less than 2$)
In my video the AeriallTV application was able to find all DVB-T TV stations in my area and reception was crystal clear as you can see in the video ( im am living in EU).
ATTENTION ! In different areas of the world there are different digital terrestial TV standards : en.dtvstatus.net According to these information presented solution will NOT WORK in North America (ATSC standard) , most of South America and Japan (SBTVD-T / ISDB-T), China (DTM-B).
There is different solution for ATSC areas, different USB tuner is needed (look here • iView ATSC Digital TV ... or • ATSC Digital TV Tuner ... ) .

well the RTLSDR dongle is quite power consuming. I can watch TV for at least 2 hours when starting with fully loaded 4000mAh battery of the phone
Hi adam, after i install the app it didn't found any channel on the app after the search. Do you know why?
Assuming that your RTLSDR dongle was correctly recognized - I think you may need a better antenna. In my case I was using the dipole from the video and my distance from the tv transmitter was around 10 kilometers.
But there may be different issue. The app does not allow to decode ATSC (North America) and ISDB (South America) TV transmissions : www.multicominc.com/training/technical-resources/atsc-vs-ntsc-vs-qam-vs-dvb-t-vs-isdb-tb-understanding-tv-signals/ so it may not be useful in your area.
For example in US a different USB dongle shall be used : th-cam.com/video/ao0Y8sX3faI/w-d-xo.html
Będzie test z DVB-T2 i czeską aplikacją (jest w przeciwieństwie do Aerial Tv za darmo)
Bedzie o ile mi zadziala. Na razie - z modulem opartym na R820T2 nie działa, natomiast na module z R820T czyli starszym nie wykrywa mi kanałow na tej samej antenie ktorej używalem do AerialTV

ensure that you have RTLSDR with the chip R820T not R820T2

A da sie zwykly dekoder dvbt podlaczyc do smartfona przez otg. Oczywiscie z jakimis przejsciowkami i konwerterami???

unfortunately no. In the US there is different digital TV standard - ATSC. There is different USB module for this
Same frequencies as US digital TV used on DVB-T in Taiwan and Bermuda.

SDRANGEL application can decode DVBT on Windows 10, however it is not so uswr friendly. I will be reviewing this app in some time

@@daviddavidsonn3578 kkkk, very good. sdr works with analog signal on pc using sharptv plugin, my question is if you can do the same on android, i have a vhf transmitter, i wanted to do a signal range test.
But I got your point that although it's in digital but it is doing that old analogue tunning that's why it's Sdr software define radio

it is working over the radio not over the internet. It does not require Internet connectivity
