    Looking forward to buying one of this. So thanks for letting me know that the soud coming from a regular iPod 5th gen and the 5.5 th is almost the same. Great video,

    OK, so no one noticed? I've done quite a few ssd upgrades. The battery does not go under the iflash. The iflash is shaped so it fits into a notch on the frame to keep it from sliding around, and the battery is mounted to the back case with double sided tape. Hopefully it didn't cause him any problems the way he assembled it. Good video otherwise.

      This only depends if the battery is 3800mAH (for thin backplate and iFlash Quad

    I'm a couple years too late to the party here, but just a piece of advice for anyone who wishes to the same thing in this video with regards to swapping your slim back case to the thicker case. Order a new headphone jack & hold switch ribbon assembly, and make sure it's meant for the thicker case. The hold switch & headphone jack for the slim case are slightly curved at the top to match the curve of the case. Yes, both versions of the ribbon assembly will mount & work on either slim or thick cases, but the fit of the headphone jack will be off & you will have a harder time trying to slide the hold switch.

      Yeah. I ran into that problem while installing the rear case on this one, but found the slight curvature to not bother me enough to buy different ones.

    I have a 30 that I need to swap the back on as well for the same battery. Any tips? I’m not sure if I just have to swap the parts into the new back and lock everything up or if I need to take the parts from the fatter back, hook them up and then continue. Any help would be MASSIVELY appreciated! Great work here too 😎👍🏻

    Where did you get the back case for it? Since I just bought a 5th gen, wanting to do alot of the same mods as you have done here.

    Idk if I’d say this dac is the best… best of the ipods probably. More important than quality, for me… wolfson dacs where in my iPod Classic 5th gen, my iPod Nano 3rd gen and my PSP…. I cant say for sure, but the PSP Wolfson DAC might be as good or better. My ears are shiite, but wolfon dacs make things sound “how I remember it”, luckily for me I have all the files my bf gave me before he passed. So having all the same files and a wolfson dac to play them all.. means everything to me. Far more important to me than a dac that may be better quality. Wolfson dacs were the sound of generation.
    Both my psp and 5th gen play games but, PSP has it beat in everything but portability.

    Hello! Modernized my Ipod today with the IFlash Solo. A SanDisk SD card with 256GB memory is used. Now I have the problem that when I select a title in ROCKBOX, it takes 2-5 seconds. plays and then jumps. Like a broken CD or record. Has anyone had problems with this? Thank you for your answers.

    So ipod with 32 ram can address 7500-10000 tracks, 64 ram 20000 ram. What about the 6,7 gen how much ram and how many tracks can they address?

    Nice video! Just purchased a 30gb 5th gen and it’s on the way! Looking to upgrade the battery and add flash storage. Do you have links for the battery and back plate that you used? Just wondering what size of back panel I would need and size of battery...

    • @bibasik7
      @bibasik7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Batteries of this size can be found on eBay by searching "iPod video 3000mah battery". There are many different sellers, but the batteries should all be about the same size.
      The back panel size is called "thick", and they are also all the same size from all sellers. You can get these with different numbers on the back, so you can find one that matches the amount of storage you put in your iPod. They are also available in different colors, like black or gold, if you want to make your iPod look different.

    Hey kinda weird question, I have a 5th gen iPod video that is the 32GB model. Do you or anyone know the max sd card size it can handle? I know the 64gb model can hold more.
    But I wanted to see if my 256GB sd card would work or do I have to downsize to 128? I’m asking because I’m waiting on my SD adapter to arrive lol.

      Check out dankpods videos, he says that the 30gb will run 256gb sd just fine but anything more than that the iPod could crash because of the ram limitations. 60gb iPods can hold more memory cause of more ram. dankspods even put a 1TB on a 80gb 5.5th generation iPod video it actually showed on iTunes something 952gb of storage but the iPod can't shuffle 40,000 songs. it works as long you don't shuffle.

    If I use thin back shell cover (30gb), it’s possible and fit? Or I have to use thick back cover (256gb same yours) for 3000mAh + iflash?

    • @kilobyte9185
      @kilobyte9185  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to use the thick back cover to accommodate the extended battery. If you use the original battery, the thin back cover will work fine.

    • @drumheed

      3000ma batteries fit in the thin back case if you use the iflash quad with micro sd

    what size SD cards do you recommend for example 30gb, 60gb, 80gb 5 gen and 80, 160gb 6,7 gen without issues. I don't want to waste putting too much memory for nothing.

    • @juanandres6081
      @juanandres6081 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I recommend you the channel DankPods. He has done more experimentation with different iPods, for example the 5th gen 30gb "the limit" is 128gb and 6-7th gen he has a video with 2TB which is crazy and not necessary. 256gb is more than enough for 6-7th gen / 128gb for 5th gen / 60gb for 4th and so on.

    Did you have to do anything to the card before installing? I am using a 256 micro sd, and I plug it into itunes, and download my audiobooks, then when it is done, I eject it, and none of my books are on it. Is it something I am doing, or does something need to be done with the card. I have tried the AOMEI program, still wont download the books. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @kilobyte9185
      @kilobyte9185  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply. No, the card was clean out of box. generally all you have to do is plug it into the adapter then restore the ipod from itunes.

    This may sound a bit obvious, but even after fitting an iPod with this new storage, will iTunes still detect it as normal?

    • @KelvinAndrade
      @KelvinAndrade 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    iPod 5 and 5.5 gens can do 50000~ tracks. Has to be the 60GB and 80GB models though. The 30 GB models can only do 20000~ like you mentioned

    Can you do mod a ipod video 5th gen with a ipod classic front panel 🤔🤔

    • @jonathanlau1221
      @jonathanlau1221 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually very straight forward. You have 2 options. The easier option is to buy a mid frame for the 6th or 7th gen iPod (aka classic), along with the front panel. The logic board & screen will swap over no problems. The 2nd option is to use a dremel tool to shave off the tabs on the 5th gen frame, or cut slots into the tabs of the 6th gen front panel, which is not as easy as it may sound. But both options will still have the same issue. The click wheel.
      The click wheel of the 5th gen is thicker than the 6th gen, same as the center button. And annoyingly the 6th & 7th gen click wheel ribbon assembly will not work on the 5th gen logic board. The issue here is you can use the 5th gen click wheel on the 6th gen front panel, but it will protrude about 1mm from the panel.
      So what you have to do is order a 6th gen click wheel faceplate, not the entire ribbon assembly, remove the faceplate from the 5th gen assembly & re-adhere the 6th gen faceplate to the 5th gen ribbon. Order a 6th gen center button as well & it will just drop right in. You DON'T order the 6th gen click wheel as an assembly because if you do, you will have to remove 2 faceplates instead of just 1. If it's your first attempt at swapping click wheel faceplates, I suggest you order spare 5th gen ribbon assemblies. How many spare assemblies depends on how confident you are.

    everyone talks about the DAC but what they dont really say is ITS LOUDER! i remember when i had the 60gb and the standard headphones. it was loud as fuck and no hearing limitation by the government. then apple went cheaper and followed government hearing guidelines on devices after. ive had sony phone since and sony 4gb mp4 stick and full volume is still low as hell for me. so now ive ordered a 80gb white B spec and cant wait to get it. i wont fill 80gb at all but i love music on youtube that i listen to where as u cant on other platforms. i need to find a way to screen record and then convert to mp3 if u can help please.
