My Grandparents too lived at Kumbakonam with my Chithi , mAma, same type of house we visit 3 times during May holidays,we used to get 22 days Diwali holidays and 12 to15 days Christmas holidays as kids when we used visit them in the same type of house. Don't call it old, actually those houses are very very strong, the Gadapapara and other implements used to break down our house twisted and got bent many times. Nowadays even if u hammer a nail the cement around it falls This house brought back many happy beautiful memories. Do correct the lighting, and move the camera slowly and methodically showing the viewers all our glorious past which can never come back in this century

Though I am not a Brahmin by birth, I have always been a genuine admirer of Brahmin culture and their extreme decency. I tried to help a friend of mine, a Brahmin realtor, to restore and revive the cultural environment and preserve their traditional values in his new Kumbakonam suburban land development. i wanted him to put up kosala, and allot space for temple and a school.It was the birthplace of Anandharama Dikshithar. I feel the project needs lot of support from overseas Brahmin community to repect its rich cultural heritage.

This video reminds of Veppathur, Tiruvidaimarudur, Kumbakonam my grand house where I studied b/w 1973/1979 school and college days.. Those houses had mithham, thaazhvaram, koodam and kollai etc... Those days will never come. By entering these houses we get deiveeha kalai.

I was born in 1950 in South Kumbeswaran street in my grand father's house which can now be called a palace for its size. Brings back nostalgic memories of the town of temples.

So here also we can assume the paatiis and thaathaas of those years were given highest respect and treated as equivalent to Mahans as they not only share their wisdom, experience, ..but also were capable of narrating lots of stories with wit and serious twists..and moral.
We all missed preserving, nourishing, continuing great treasures of such life by deviating into culture alien to our very valuable time tested well prooved lifestyles. Such lifestyle ensured endurance in life, whatever life would throw on us. Also preserved nourished maintained perenial availability of all kind of resources like trees, plants, fresh air, vegetables fruits, directly drinkable water bodies, own dairy for fresh milk butter buttermilk curd ghee,..

When I see this type of house I remember my childhood days. I used to live in Triplicane, Thulasinga Perumal Koil St., near Parthsarathy Temple. Bharathiyar's house was just 4 to 5 house away from my house. All the houses mostly were similar without seperate walls. I was awestruck by your Paati's Mayamalavagowla ragam song. I am planning to visit Kumbakonam next month. If your Paati is in Kumbakonam, I would be very glad to meet her.
