My grandfather is a srividhya upasakar and also asanskrit pundit. He does sandhya vandhanam 3 times a day, morning brunch after madhyanikam at around 11am. He also sleeps only on mat and kept wooden plank as pillow for his afternoon nap, night dinner eats only palagaram. He died 100th birthday after his kanakabhishekam.

As long as Tamil Brahmins lived in villages of Tamilnadu, they followed the brahminical way of life. The same may be true for brahmins in other South Indian States. Not many know that POVERTY drove brahmins to seek jobs with the British Raj. Once in the city, brahminical way of life, gradually, disappeared. Not many know that up to 50 percent of brahmin families in the villages were eating one meal a day (adults) and two meals (children) as late as 1950s. Of the remaining 50 percent, 40 percent owned no more than two acres of land. Only the top 10 percent could be called 'rich', owning above 5 acres of land. Not many know that in villages, brahmins were NEVER as influential as the propaganda has made out. Pillais, Mudaliars, Mooppanaars and Naickers were the real rulers of Villages. Brahmins were left out of major decisions affecting the villages. Even Temple Management was in the hands of 'Caste Hindus'. Dharma Karta of most of the Temples before 1950 were 'Upper' or OBC castes. Brahmins could not argue with them. Too small a minority, which, in any case, knew there was no way they could oppose the Pillais, Mudaliyars and Naickers. That is why, in the face of nasty abuse by EVR 'Periyar', even Rajaji did not say anything in return. Truth is Brahmins simply walked away. 'Agraharam America Poyacchchu', said Karunanidhi. They are doing well in many Western countries and in Northern India. Tamilnadu has given the impression, it does not need brahmins. Okay by brahmins, I think. Brahmins generally walk away quietly, instead of seeking conflict. In another Fifty years time, it may take a long search to find a brahmin who looks brahminical and has the learning and speech of a brahmin.
I meant in Tamilnadu, in another fifty years, it may be hard to find any brahmin you can identify easily, as easily as you could so far, and currently. That may be due, either because most of the active / learned brahmins have migrated out of Tamilnadu or remaining Tamil brahmins giving up brahminical habits, through inter-caste marriages or simply getting addicted to habits like smoking, drinking and meat eating.

Now not even 10% people follow their anushtanam except being vedetarians.Now some bramins do not observe vegetarianism. So no difference between brahmins and others.They remain honest because they do not like to be shamed besides cannot bear the rigorous punishment. I think in due course there wont be much brahmins in TN as many have started moving out of TN as they are not given jobs or education in government colleges.
This is only a theoretical description. May be one or two persons might have followed all the things u have described but not all the things as it's never practicable for all to follow. Brahmins are suffering in Tamil nadu especially because we have left the learning of Vedas to the winds and naturally we have to suffer. Another main thing which we made is following kudumba kattupadu and there we started our nasthigam as we started believing in ourselves and not in God. Like these there are many mistakes which were committed by our community. So far as know This brahmin baiting is more in Tamil Nadu and Andhra only. This is because we are classified as Brahmins and non Brahmins and not identified together with other castes.

Sir,I had a question.amongst the Brahmin community,not sure,if people still follow,as many find it outdated,people used to follow madi, acharam,ecchil,pathu,teethu etc.many people ,these days,feel all this is impractical,especially,with both men and women equally working,out of necessity and some for career reasons.hence,they feel one cannot be following teethu,madi.besides,following pathu is treated as impractical and obsolete.is it wrong to follow pathu.having followed all this,to an extent for last few years,I have become a fish out of the pond in my own family.people follow certain rituals only on certain occassions ,other days ,it is not followed.this becomes too confusing and sometimes ,overthinking has led to obsessive thoughts and rituals.what is the right thing to do?being traditional,these days,is considered impractical and eventually makes you a laughing stock.
Rightly said.. this generation Brahmin’s are all in a confused state.. one reason I feel for this deterioration is our elders never gave an explanation for why we are supposed to follow the rituals.. the actual science behind it ..
In olden days needs of the bramin and their family are satisfied by the villagers itself. Their food need is given by the village heads without hesitation.. Brahmins were supposed to keep the temple, it's deities as per the agamam. Their children alsoare taught the proceedure to be.followed in the temple.. but now it is fully different.. The head of the village keeps the control of the assets of the temple. But not willing to keep the diety and Brahmins in an average satisfaction.so the Brahmins, in order to fullfill their,and their family needs,they have to go for a permanant income .They Learn the vedhaas for the deity in their home town and school education for their livelihood. Others saw them as a brilliant men , they begun to Dislike them. They took the weapon reservation policy to put an end to the Brahmins upgrowth. But the Brahmins, They themselves, found all the way To improve their knowledge and livelihood.For that they are to leave their home town as well as their deity. Remaining Brahmins are doing daily poojaas to their deity along with.their job. Those went for their livelihood to outside and to other countries, they have to adapt asper their surroundings. They are unable to follow all the niyamams there. So we cannot blame them for the change s.

தற்போது ஜனநாயகத்திலும் குறை தீர்க்கும் வழிமுறைகள் உள்ளன. அவற்றை சரிவரப் பயன்படுத்தி நல்ல பிரஜைகளாக வாழ வேண்டும். அதை விடுத்து அநீதிகளை, அதுவும் தமக்கேற்படும் அநீதிகளை கூட கண்டிக்காமல் விட்டு அகன்று, அதுவும் தூர தேசங்களுக்கு போய் வாழ முற்பட்டார்கள் என்பது சரியாக தெரியவில்லை..அநீதிகளை எதிர்க்க தேவையான உடல் வலிமை இல்லாமல் இருக்கலாம்.. மனவலிமை இல்லாதவர்களாக இல்லை.. பொறுமையாக இருப்பது சரியான தருணத்தில் இவற்றை சரி செய்ய முடியும் என்ற எதிர்பார்ப்பினால் தான். பெற்ற தாயும் பிறந்த பொன்னாடும் நற்றவ வானினும் நனி சிறந்தவே.. நம் நாட்டையும் நம் மக்களையும் விட்டகன்று நமக்கேது சுகம். அப்படி பிராமணர்கள் எல்லோரும் சந்நியாசிகளில்லை. இசைபட வாழவதே வாழ்க்கை.. வசையொழிய வாழ தகுந்த நடவடிக்கைத் தேவை.

Now not even 10% people follow their anushtanam except being vedetarians.Now some bramins do not observe vegetarianism. So no difference between brahmins and others.They remain honest because they do not like to be shamed besides cannot bear the rigorous punishment. I think in due course there wont be much brahmins in TN as many have started moving out of TN as they are not given jobs or education in government colleges.

This is only a theoretical description. May be one or two persons might have followed all the things u have described but not all the things as it's never practicable for all to follow.
Brahmins are suffering in Tamil nadu especially because we have left the learning of Vedas to the winds and naturally we have to suffer.
Another main thing which we made is following kudumba kattupadu and there we started our nasthigam as we started believing in ourselves and not in God. Like these there are many mistakes which were committed by our community. So far as know This brahmin baiting is more in Tamil Nadu and Andhra only. This is because we are classified as Brahmins and non Brahmins and not identified together with other castes.

Sir,I had a question.amongst the Brahmin community,not sure,if people still follow,as many find it outdated,people used to follow madi, acharam,ecchil,pathu,teethu etc.many people ,these days,feel all this is impractical,especially,with both men and women equally working,out of necessity and some for career reasons.hence,they feel one cannot be following teethu,madi.besides,following pathu is treated as impractical and obsolete.is it wrong to follow pathu.having followed all this,to an extent for last few years,I have become a fish out of the pond in my own family.people follow certain rituals only on certain occassions ,other days ,it is not followed.this becomes too confusing and sometimes ,overthinking has led to obsessive thoughts and rituals.what is the right thing to do?being traditional,these days,is considered impractical and eventually makes you a laughing stock.
Rightly said.. this generation Brahmin’s are all in a confused state.. one reason I feel for this deterioration is our elders never gave an explanation for why we are supposed to follow the rituals.. the actual science behind it ..
In olden days needs of the bramin and their family are satisfied by the villagers itself. Their food need is given by the village heads without hesitation.. Those went for their livelihood to outside and to other countries, they have to adapt asper their surroundings. They are unable to follow all the niyamams there.

very true.. as you said most of the Brahmins are doing their best possible to follow the rituals in the given situation.. specially in the current situation where online classes are plenty trying to teach Sanskrit slokas, sukthams. And bhagawathi geetha to both adults and small kids..🙏
