Hi Kevin, just have three heli’s set up with Ikon2 rescue. You want to leave it at no less than .6 sec. When you use it in a “panic” situation that is usually when the heli is headed at the ground at a fair rate of speed so it needs to stop the descent and then gain altitude. Also, when the heli is not upright (inverted) the heli has to flip over to right side up and that also takes time. When you use it as it’s intended (rescue situation) you will be very happy you left it at .6 (or more!)… Great video!
Yes I can see that…at first I was put off by it…but after a few tests I got to liking it. I also doubt I’ll mess with the FBL pedestal as it’s perpendicular to the main shaft…I’ll probably just set the front of the skids on the right size object. Thanks for checking out the content!
Thanks for another great video! I have a Brain 2 coming tomorrow for my Trex 450 Pro and I’m considering upgrading to the Trex 550x. This video was definitely helpful knowledge!
Thank you. I believe the system’s capabilities are much greater I just didn’t have the nerve to get it further tipped. It was fun getting it all set-up and pulling that switch, the 550x is a GREAT helicopter! Thanks again for tuning in!
Love your canopies ,Ive bought & built a 550x ,I started on a 450l ,I love my 550x for learning on at my local flying field here in the Uk but the canopies over here are really hard to get hold of ,love your show 👌
Thank you. I try cover all the stuff I struggled with. Yeah I’m a fan of nice canopies…I had ordered a few that turned out to be “Royal canopy”…great business…great product…great prices. Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks. Unfortunately there isn’t much heli support in the area…I had never seen what happens when you flip that switch. Sometimes you gotta just give yourself some wiggle room and go for it :). Thanks for tuning in!
@@rcflightz2058 Yeah I’m right there with you, just a schoolyard flyer and I discover as I go along. Really makes appreciate people like you and all the help I’ve had from the community.
Thanks for demonstrating. It would be more interesting to see how much it climbs with different amounts of time selected rather than watching the same thing a dozen times. I don't think a shim under the Ikon will work, I would think it needs to be level relative to the head not the ground.
@@rcflightz2058 OK cool it rescue sideways 👍🏾 I just bought a old Goblin 700 With a Ikon2 inside. I'm still learning so there will be times I need rescue from any position. I have a vbar neo I might swapped it out for😇 Thanks for responding
How did you get the rescue button set up? I have a NX8 and I have One of my flight moves with auto level and recovery selected. When I flipped from flight mode one back down to normal mode it seems like the auto level is working I see it pitch up and then level out. But when I hit my button I which I want to be my panic recovery nothing changes no matter the flight mode. It also does not select the panic recovery in the flight mode screen in the wizard either.
The answer is on page 11 of the Ikon software…that fourth bottom box. When your radio was bound it should have put the first 3 boxes on a Chanel with a 3 way switch and the fourth box on a Chanel with a one way switch. Most of us don’t use auto level or rescue on the first three…which is usual your flight mode switch. Plug in your Ikon to your computer, go to page 11, flip switches until that fourth box switches on…that’s your rescue/level switch…re-assign to your proffered switch if preferred. Hope that helps, thanks again for tuning in!
@@rcflightz2058 I don’t think any switch switch is on the fourth box. I have flipped them off trying to see which one it was. I have channel 8 set to switch I But when I hit switch I nothing happens
@@rcflightz2058 just confirmed, no switch highlights the fourth box. My flight modes and everything are on switch be where I want them and switching between them properly.
Your controller will only make mechanical corrections to aircraft attitude based on what it is programmed for. So level and rate of climb is a users preference.
I found the Ikon to be very user friendly, very well laid out programing, standard phone cord for interface, edit from any computer, no registrations BS…I ordered it…unboxed it and set it up perfectly in about a half hour and haven’t had any issues. I have them in 5 helicopters now…same experience every time…no flight issues…works for me :). Thanks for checking out the channel!
I’m going to have to do with my 300 or something…can’t bring myself to do with my prized 550X. I know it’s not the greatest heli ever made or anything but it’s honestly my favorite helicopter.
Great video mate and nicely presented. So you just ticked the “rescue and self level” box on the Ikon wizard on one of the flight modes? That jump is pretty scary if your not ready for it. But thinking about it, you’d normally use it when in an out of control pending crash situation, so it must need some time to correct the downward “crash” trajectory before it can gain some safe height. So it just looks worse activating it from a stable hover.
Thank you. I did have to locate which channel the aux 1 was assigned to and assigned that channel to the desired switch. The first time or two it took me by surprise but yes after a couple times I was much more comfortable with it. It was definitely interesting :)
I think it’s as easy as an FBL gets. I used a video and the instructions on every step to set-up my first one. Since then I’ve done 3 more just using the program…all have flown perfectly. Thanks for checking out content!
Wouldn’t the leveling of your swashplate make a difference. Pick your aircraft up to a hover. If there is a creep forward in the hover, make minor adjustments to your swashplate angle.
The problem is the helicopter sits slightly canted forward on the angled landing gear…it locks that angle in as level…when you activate self level…it goes back to that locked in angle. It’s only a thing on helicopters with canted skids. I have two other 500ish size helicopters, both with straight skids…no self level issue at all. Hope that helps. Thanks for checking out the channel.
It’s supposed to roll over…I’d like to see that on video…not going to lie…I didn’t have the nerve :) I’m not a pro…everyday hobbiest learning and sharing what I can along the way. With the lack of hobby support today hopefully it helps. Thanks for checking out the channel.
Take the Gage on top of the Ikon" preferably the top of the Motor" hit Zero boom its level. then do the setup. never zero it on the table then move it to the heli
This was strictly to show how the FBL platform sits in relation to the ground surface. All the set-up is done, nothing to do with setting it up. But If I was setting it up…completely agree.
Why are you worried about a perfect level on a rescue feature? If I need to use bailout all I care about is that the heli is upright and heading away from the dirt.
Rescue locks to where the FBL initializes…it’s best to let the FBL initialize on a level surface anyway. I’ve seen issues when it was crooked on my tailgate…it’s ugly.
Here’s how I do it, and all the lessons and details learned… th-cam.com/video/FuYrh4f9788/w-d-xo.html hope that helps, your videos bring something a little more nail biting! Thanks for tuning in!

Which if it was in inverted, it will flip over to right position by itself or it will stay in inverted? thanks

Looks like setting up an fpv quadcopter. Drones made heli stability and flying so much more fun and easy. Awesome vid as always Flightz.

Going back to the Vbar rescue 😇 Can't find any video of the ikon2 doing a real life rescue inverted or sideways rescue 🤔

Second, if you don’t like the rate of climb, decrease your max blade angle by a few degrees.
You can change the recovery rate…and I did…my intention here was show what happens when you just use the standard settings and send it.
Put it inverted then hit rescue bailout!
