Thanks for the video! Two years ago I bought four Jinhao 992 in different transparent colors. All of them had cracks around the barrel plugs, so I removed the plugs and sealed the plugs with epoxy. However, one by one they have now cracked to bits in other ways; the cap top falling off, the barrel cracking at the threads, the cap cracking circumferentially at the edge of the supposedly reinforcing metal ring. I miss them, but I dare not buy more of them. But I’m tempted, against all reason. I guess I fell in love with those nice little pens!
Thanks Garry. I will be putting that one on my list. I purchased 3 of the Darjeeling you reviewed. They went on sale for $7 USD on FPR so I couldn’t resist. I got an EF, a reg Flex and a stub. The flex and stub were an extra $4. I had never tried a flex or stub before so figured it was an inexpensive way to try them. The smell was bad but washed them in my tea tree shampoo and now the smell is barely noticeable! A lovely smooth pen and great comfortable writer. Thanks for your great reviews!
Hi Garry. You're right, there aren't many pens as cheap as the 992. You might find a Hero pen for less but will it be as good? Probably not. I have a few 992's, some in a solid colour and others in transparent colours. Overall, I like the pen. It works well and is reliable. Nothing terribly exciting about it but what more could you want for the money? I keep one (green) at work in my drawer. It's my 'back up' pen and has never let me down.
I've got all of the transparent colours now, still not convinced about the solid colours but I think I'll eventually end up with them. My only issue with the pen is it's a bit on the small side for unposted use but as soon as I post it I then find it feels nice in my hand.
Like others in the comments, I have a number of these pens that I use for sketching. The nibs are even smooth in reverse, great for hatching shaded areas of a drawing with lighter lines. There have been problems with the 992 although Jinhao may have remedied them by now. The cap finial can break off from the screw thread when clipping the pen into a case or pocket. The plug at the bottom of the barrel has caused cracks in the past, so it's advisable to reinforce that area if you decide to make into an eyedropper. There are TH-cam videos out there to help. Thanks again for your review Garry.
Hi Garry, Wonderful FP review video. $2.40 AUD about £1.30 GBP is a great bargain, but how much was the shipping costs? I found a retailer that is selling this FP for £5.99.
I see them on AliExpress for $ 1.90 CAD (£ 1.10 GPB) with free shipping for orders over $ 3.85 CAD. In other words, free shipping if you order three or more of them.

Sounds like you got a bad batch....hmmm ?
I love the jinhao 992 I have 10 of them
I expanded to have one of each of the transparent ones. I do keep eyeing the others up but haven't pulled the trigger on them yet.
I just bought a pack of six of these pens on Amazon...for $12. (Now I want to go buy the Robert Oster Aussie Brown ink! Lovely color!)

I hope you enjoy your Darjeelings. For the price they are a nice pen. Thanks for the tip about the tea tree shampoo, I'm going to give that a try.

Hmmm, I need to buy one of these and put coffee-scented ink in it.
I love that idea, coffee-scented ink.
It's a great pen, I have ten, but I've had problems with about 3 of the body cracking or the top of the cap coming off. Thanks Garry.
After trying this pen I bought the rest of the transparent colours. I'll keep an eye on them for cracking, thanks for the tip.
I have the exact same pen, works wonders and look very nice. Great value for the money.
I was very surprised at how good a writer it is.

Thanks. I think I'll carry on using it with the convertor. The last thing I want is a nice ink patch on my shirts.
The pen that costs less than the included convertor. Hard to beat.
And it is such a nice writer as well. The only downside - it is a bit on the short side unposted.
