- Walter Proctor had come to visit Saleh Clark following the unexpected and mysterious passing of his great-uncle Caleb Proctor. Walter and his brother Frank were the sole heirs of their moderately well off Uncle Caleb, who had lived as a recluse on his farm in northern Connecticut. The two young men had been jolted at the news of his sudden and mysterious demise, but were both in need of their inheritance - Frank had recently totaled his car and Walter was wanting to marry. However, the unsettling nature of this mystery would soon be revealed.

I sure do look forward to hearing these wonderful old stories.... You can't find ghost stories with this much class these days... they usually resort to HORROR instead of intrigue and a touch of the paranormal....
Today the entire story would be nothing but paranormal events, and they lose their quality of being mysterious. It's like these stories build up to the paranormal events and the story is based on reality with hints of the supernatural, whereas today you would start out with a ghost as the main character... just unrelatable.

That's what I was just thinking. Today's horror movies are just who can think of a more horrible way to kill a human than the last movie ? Who cares about plot, characters and/or telling a good story ?
You're right. A good ghost story is like an Alfred Hitchcock mystery, full of suspense.
That voice is relaxing.
She and the other narrators on this channel are excellent! That is one of the major qualities that makes me follow...as well as the content,writing,personalty and naturalness.This is one channel that hits all the marks!

@@amq5740 No doubt some are but you have to bear in mind that whether the stories are read from books or the Web, there is no way the channel owners can possibly verify them. So take them at face value or take them with a pinch of salt. Either way they are fascinating, aren't they? :)

A well told story of what is often called a "Dumb Supper", where a dinner is held on Hallowe'en. Places are normally set for the departed, all done in respectful silence.
I doubt this ever took place, but it's a fine combination of oft-told tales meshed together in such a nicely spooky way. 👋👋👋

I absolutely love ghost stories, especially when I go to sleep, I also love the sites called Bedtime stories and Curious world and I can't just listen to anyone, they have to have a real story voice otherwise that would be a BIG FAT NO. so ya! I'm sure that most of you feel the same way.. 👻👍...

Good story. It was almost like a deadly tontine.
I can't call the house I grew up in haunted but there were some odd things that happened there. For me, it was one room in the back of the house that always made me feel anxious. I never felt alone there and if I slept in there I had nightmares.. It was creepy. My father built the house so it was new when we moved in. My sister had some strange experiences as well. Who knows what it was. I dont know if I believe in ghosts but they scare me.

They each had a farm and both wanted another, this is the typical greed of humans, obvious not all, I'm glad I don't have that thought process, I'm happy when I see others get something they want, but I've seen though my whole life how greediness is prevalent in man. Why do you need to have stuff, why, I don't get it, and I'm thankful that isn't part of my nature. Thank you God.🙏😁
