Your aunt is a legend
❤️Respect
Vice City brought the younger crowd to appreciate the 80s hits. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m very appreciative of it.
I agree, this also makes it a great song to listen to when your driving from Atlantic City to New York at night.
Ooh that sounds awesome. I’ve made that drive 🙂
@@noahnorman6877 i get the feeling that’s what you’re doing now lol
Here’s a list of sons you should listen to if you make that drive again:
Kenny G - Songbird
Man in The Mirror
Human Nature - both by Michael Jackson.
Send in the Clowns - The Frank Sinatra cover. Just to remind you that there are many people in the casinos that gamble all their money away, and that your (hopefully) not one of them.
can someone tell me what genre music this is? man bruh driving in vice city with the Miami sunset was such a vibe
2024 who is here??? ❤
Rick James was a musical genius for the way he assembled these girls. His songwriting and production was flawless. No one can deny how much of a legend he is. This song was beautifully written and composed by him.
Im Rick James, bitch!
I agree...for the most part. Yet in this particular case, not so much. Ever heard of Kenny Burke's 'Risin to the top'? which came out a year earlier (I remember, because I entered high school that same year)?
Check that song out!
Slick Rick..wow
I saw Rick James and the Mary Jane Girls strut into the Ice Palace in New York in the 80’s! Fabulous!!!
@@RogerSartet007Wow!!!!

But also secretly pleased that you have such great taste in music

40 years ago and counting. Still a banger. 💕
Still hott in 2024❤❤❤😂
There's a reason every single rapper has sampled this song
And this song sampled Keni Burke. I think Keni deserves the credit.
This was sampled from Keni Burke lol how you sound
I cant even think of 1 rapper lol. Im from the 90's early 2000's of rap....
Moe Krinkle LL Cool J. Mary J Blidge
@@Simplykiebby ok that's 1 R&B artist...
Wow!... This jam brings back strong memories of my younger years as a soldier in the U.S. Army, stationed away, & how I would write my wife, & she would write me back & tell me everything the Mary Jane Girls sing in this song. We still deeply love each other, & are still married for 37 years. Ain't nothing like a fine, good woman.

Thank you Rockstar games for creating Grand theft Auto Vice City. This is part of the reason this generation now has hope.
Definitely back in 2002 I got that game when it came out. I was only 7 at the time and fell inlove with this song
Bring back the 80s😢
I’m 19 with a old soul
Rick James has a weird obsession with rooftops
I remember driving fast in Vice City lol Love that game!!! And this song!!!
Why can’t we get this type of song in 2024?
Music is dead 😅
Have you heard Groove Theory's Tell me?
Well In this generation now kids wouldn’t understand this type of music and it just wouldn’t hit the same
Admit it: who else came here for the sax at the end??? 😊
Samples
Mary J. Blige- All Night Long
Big Daddy Kane- Smooth Operator
LL Cool J- Around the Way Girl
Redman- Tonight's Da Night
And they got this from Rising to the top by Keni Burke
BDK was my introduction to this song.
Groove Theory - Tell Me
Can’t forget!
U now your tunes big up
Rex life raj - Level up
one of the sickest bass lines, vocals, production ever....
True that b - line is heavy 😱
💯💯❤
thequeenlotus126 it’s real simple to play but it is cold
Absolutely.
I heard Rick James came up with that bass line
Here in May 2024...my Pops was a DJ and I grew up jamming at functions on this
Rick James boy I tell you the man had a ear for good music
I totally agree with you.
True Prince brung the Rick James talent out of him
indeed!! but he stole/or bite the bass line from Kenny Burke's Risin' to the top, which is one of the most used sample of his live bass line. In hip hop & R&B
Kenni Burke original came out in 1982, Than Mary Jane Girls /Rick James came out 1983.
@@princesssmalik1 you are spitting straight facts. Both songs are 🔥. Rick james is underappreciated in music though. James and prince are different
The 80s were a special decade in music 🎶 🎵

Rick James was a creative genius for this group of ladies right here buddy real music never die
These were some bad girls, that lead was fantastic, so so talented, love those backup singers, Rick really knew what he was doing, Love 💕💕💕💕 them.
That’s because coc*ine is a hell of a drug
But He stole...
I remember somebody said: "Yeah, Prince's girls sold more, but at least Rick James' girls could actually sing." Lol.
Only one of the Mary Jane Girls sang at all.. Joanne McDuffie. The other 4 were for videos and photo shoots only.
PREEEAACHHHHH!!!!!
bh617 one person didnt do those excellent harmonies.
Candy Dhami Prince girls didn't sell shit compared to these ladies, princes production was sloppy and all over the place, yes he was talented instrumently, but Rick had the better talent and took the time to put some good shit together.
The one with the braids is the only one who got a voice. Her voice is the sultry alto voice you hear on lead in most of the songs.
Timeless😝😝❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
This is great old skool music
It's 2021, who's still listening? I've been listening to this song every day since September 2020!

Gave a whole new generation appreciation for this era of music
takes me right back, 1983 summer in London, Sunday afternoons in the beer garden posing in my pink Lacoste polo, white Fila shorts and Rebook classics, chilling with the DJ spinning the slow tracks. Those were the days, where did it all go?
My uncle put me on 2 this song when he played gta vice city back in the day. Shit just a whole vibe.
Gta Vice City is one of the best games in game history!

Still a bop! This song is 40 years old!🎉
Yeah. I was in New York. Ten years of age and I remember it being the jam of the summer. Love the Mary Jane Girls 😊
This was my big brother’s favorite song!!!! I can see him right now doing his little two step with a bottle of Dom P. We lost him in 1992 one of the many casualties of the Crack Era in NYC. I still miss him almost 30 years later but songs like this keep him alive in my heart. R. I. P Stevie!!! Your baby sis misses you terribly!!!!
RIP Stevie
so many lost back then!!
I like how this song has a kind of retro sound to it, I’m 75 now and I like the 60s and 70s music. I remember songs that came out after WW II. I was a little tot then.
Rick James was a genius songwriter and producer. He had an ear for hits.
This song never gets old.
TRUEE
Exact.
90’sbaby here again in 2022. Real music lives through time and space forever.
2023 and i still play this song
Nothing beats the original, EVER...but I think off "Round the way girl" by LL when i hear this. Anyone here in 2024?
I think of Mary J. Blige - Mary Jane (All Night Long) when I hear this classic
Rick James is a Fuckin LEGEND his production and writin is flawless
Memories for me. Takes me back 30 years

“You got me shook up, shook down, shook out on your lovin” though simple, one of my favorite lines of all time 🔥
LL Cool J "Around The Way Girl"

Rick James was savage with the instrumentations and productions 💯.

Wish rick was still here the man was the godfather of funk and just an all round musical genius
I think the hits Rick created for the Mary Jane Girls are absolutely incredible and his best musical efforts. Decades later I listen them and am stunned their musical genius!

Question....were you alive when this came out??
I’ll always jam the late 70’s & 80’s this one of my favorites.. disco & house🥰
me from Liege ,Belgium
The Mary Jane Girls where founded by Rick James when this song came out it was the biggest club banger of those days in the 80's even now till this day still is one of the greatest songs that I ever heard you play now at a club and the crowd will get up and dance in a heart beat
Damn straight they be dancing all night long
Yup
Scooby Doo buffalo's own
Cocaine is a hell of a drug!!!!
Scooby Doo you can’t NOT get down with this❣️
Childhood GTA , now this just my jam
Those who say that disco died between ‘79 and ‘80 don’t have their heads on straight, many people hear this music and associate it with the 80s. Which means that it never truly died but evolved in order to fit into the new decade’s new music-dominated music charts.
Nostalgia....remember playing in the courts in Brooklyn, summer time, cookouts, fire hydrants on, water in the streets, my boys and i playing in the water, ice cream truck comes around, i run upstairs to ask my mom for money......man the memories
Shit crazy dawg
Sounds amazing

The Mary Jane Girls were some bad girls. There vocals were tight.

@Jamie HeritageThe legendary Maxine and Julia Waters tearing it up "singin' in the background🎶."
Rick James's girls.
Wicked bass line.
btannen777 it "borrows" from Keni Burke's song Keep Rising to the Top. Both great songs!
btannen777 they talked abounds his drugs but they gotta admit the man knows how to write some bad dance music for his people. Rip Mr James
Bassline is Simple and Simply Funky. Da Sax solo is funky too..
Baseline is on fire, I love when big daddy Kane raps to it, flow is on point
@@nugsymalone1247 it's all good. Keni Burke rising to the top, MJ Girls all night long and Kane. Nevy gets old!
The Motown sound of the 80's with The Mary Jane Girls proving that the label hadn't lost its magic since the 60's, Rick James protege's hit it big time with this
this was produced by rick james stone city love band under motown
Rick was brilliant, definitely had a gift for creating music.
Still bumpin in 2023 I was just laughing with my mom when I was young n when we moved from home in Brooklyn to NC and she got her first little car used to stay blasting riding out to this shit on repeat😂😂

Some of my best childhood memories are playing GTA VICE CITY at night in summer time with the window rolled up and box fax blowing on the floor. I used to love when this song came on when it was my turn to play. We would take turns playing for hours while laughing and telling jokes about it each other. Being with my brothers felt so cool even though the use to pick on me. lol
The real REAL OG’s know this from gta vice city
I was born in 99 but grew up listening to 70’s,80’s, and 90’s music 💪💪💪
This jam played from February 83 all the way through the Summer that year.
This is an insanely great song.
The Kenny Burke bass, the unbeatable hook.
Easily one of the greatest songs in hip hop n R&B.
Sounds so "Funky '70s" mindblowing its as new as 1983! Rick probably had it in the can for a few years
Who else is here after the Pole Position Club in Vice City
The Mary Jane Girls were some Bad Mama Jamas!!!
This is the best song a Sistah can send a Brother..
As a musician myself, I crave to hear songs like this from today's artists. Unfortunately, there's a huge lack of musicianship with the (popular) music of today. There's nothing like jam sessions at the end of songs, that extends the composition an additional 2 to 3 minutes more than what you hear on the radio.
A lot of the kids like their music either sampled from old records or music made from a drum machine. No instruments, switching chords, virtuoso instrumentalist, original music composition etc. I love rap music, but it should have never dominated R&B, Funk, Soul, and musical art forms. It ruined the balance. Rap music is very lazy, they rely on the beatmaker to sell music. The beatmaker makes his music from sampling and or a drum machine. Then sells the beat to whoever is the most popular rapper at the time, even if he disagrees with the rapper's subject matter. Nowadays, rappers don't even want to be produced, meaning how they should sound on rapping over the beat. Now they just want the beat and put no effort in making a serious composition. Because they know the beat and hook will carry the success of the song.
SMDH. How I long for the days of Michael Jackson, Prince, and Rick James.
Riders on the stormmm yyyeeeeaa
I have to agree. You have to look deeper to find the good stuff, it sure isn't on the radio. Check out Vulfpeck.
