When my daughter starts to get angry or frustrated towards me i make a silly face or just do the most loving cheeky smile i can until she just busts her angry face and starts laughing. Love always wins.

Wow. I have been struggling with guilt having been medically separated from my (now 10 week old) baby who had meconium aspiration. I had a postpartum haemorrhage and wasn’t able to even see her for the first 24 hours. She spent her first month in intensive care. It was devastating but I feel so connected to her now. She amazes me every single day how she gazes into my eyes and smiles and coos. It’s magical but I have always worried about how damaging that separation was developmentally. I didn’t even think of neuroplasticity - so that is relieving that all connection and love I shower her with now might make up for the separation and trauma at birth. Thank you!

My son is 3 in June, and this video is so real for me. I have been working so hard on being a gentle parent and I am getting triggered so often lately. So this was amazing to watch and for me to learn. I will re-watch this a 1000 times.

Awesome episode. I truly wish I knew this stuff when my kids were still babies and toddlers. One of the only regrets I have in life is my parenting when my kids were young. I was so caught up in my own shit that I never gave them the focus they deserved. Never too late to turn it around though. I have a great relationship with them now 🙏❤️

This is such a great video. Eye opening. I needed to hear this today to begin my self reflection. Mindfulness and being very intentional in parenting is such an opportunity for growth for me. Thank you both so much.

this video is essential for all parents!
love the concepts shared in this video. We have been struggling with disciplining our kid too.
We know that physical discipline is something we dont believe in but we resorted to bargaining with them using our connection, which essentially is children's basic need for survival.
We now learnt a new and very important perspective which will change our way of interaction with our kids.
Thanks for the video Kerwin and Dr Vanessa ❤️

A couple things. 1) Wow, this was so eye opening and enlightening!! I see my daughter in a whole new light! 2) How has this not gone viral?!?! Every parent needs to hear this! I forwarded this video and the one with Justin to my 19 year old step daughter who is recently married and expecting her first child. 3) I bought Vanessa's book but would have loved to buy it on Audible! Her voice is so soothing and calming, I could listen to her all day. Thank you so much for this interview, it is life changing stuff ❤ p.s. I found you through someone who shared your Parenting Advice For Every Parent video. I don't know how you don't have more subscribers and views! Keep up the great work!

      1. Pumped that it helped you. 2. It's viral over on Facebook, TH-cam is a different beast. 3. Maybe reach out to Dr Lapointe and recommend she do an audio version. PS the channel is growing steady

Im so very fortunate so have been able to hold my baby for the first hour immediately after he was born skin to skin and then he was held by his father ♥️ nothing compares to the feeling of when he came out and they handed me my baby

I have to say that I absolutely admire the love you show for Noah, and everything you are doing and learning to ensure the best for him. If more fathers (and some mothers) would be like this it could lead to a whole generation of very different people. I have been a single mother (zero support or contact) since being pregnant - what a difference having a father that thought like you would have made. I believe that most parents create their own handbook of "How to raise your child" based on a combination of what your parents did that you loved, the opposite of what your parents did that you did not like, with a few flavours of what you think would be ideal - like Dr Vanessa said. And along the way we adjust and rewrite depending on what works and what doesn't. If only more people could have access to Dr Lapointe...wow what a different world this could be. Although it has been a challenging 24 years...having to do the discipline and be the soft landing, I am forever grateful that my daughter chose her contract to be interwined with mine. Life would have been quite empty without this bond. Enjoy Noah, and never stop loving him (and yourself).💕💕

Thanks for this episode, though i have no children yet (recently got married to my awsome husband), i feel like the subject and the questions were soooooo interesting. I've seen this episode several times, sometimes i even put it on audio when i'm driving.
Dr Vanessa LAPOINTE, i love the way you get excited about the questions, the answers are not only smart but challenging. More importantly, i love your perspective on life in general. sometimes, i want you to be my mom, though i'm 32!!
Mr Kerwin Rae, you can do it all!!

I LOVE THIS. I loved this and will watch it a few times more so I am sure to soak it all in. The best duty God gave me was to be a mother. Even though mine ran out when I was little and left me with my abusive father. That had nothing to do with me. I never worked so honest and painfully on myself like I have since becoming a mom. My son deserves a beautiful Life not any peice of what mine was like ❤️

Could you look into "failure to launch". I have a 22yr old daughter with some mental health challenges, anxiety etc and NO intrinsic sense of motivation! She struggles with depression and has no real interest in doing anything. I need help to understand how we got here and what I can do with my language and behaviour to ecourage change. I have 3 other children and we all work hard working and schooling so the culture in our home is high energy and motivational. I'd love to know more from you and your professionals??

I'm interested to know how she feels about putting your baby to bed. if you dont want them to cry it out. how do you teach them to sleep independently in their own crib from the start. they recommend baby sleep on it's own to avoid SIDS. plus you cant have 2 of your kids in bed with you and husband until everyone is 4 or 5 and can self regulate. I want to make sure babys needs are being emotionally met hut also safe in her crib
