The band's frontman Jeff Lynne regarded his own songwriting at this point to have reached a new high. "The songs started to flow and most of them came quickly to me. To have all those hits, it was just ...I mean amazing really. Going from doing okay for probably three or four years to suddenly being in the big time, it was a strange but great thing." - Jeff Lynne
Having been a fan of Jeff Lynne since his days with The Move and then when he took over the band ELO from Roy Wood whose band The Move was now defunct and he'd formed a new band Wizard so Jeff continued with Bev Bevan and created the ensemble that would change the sound of the 70s in UK and the World. Seen them several times and still to this day are amazing. So glad you're enjoying them
You probably have heard this song before , it was top 10 in the US and UK and gets played a lot.... Lionel Ritchie's Hello was released 7 years after this
Thank you for doing this recommendation, it's always appreciated. E.L.O. or The Electric Light Orchestra as they were known back then, this was a big song when it came out 47 years ago, that makes me feel so old. 😕😢😄
Here in Brisbane, on radio TripleM, they are running a competition where you vote for the GOAT (greatest of all time) year. I think 1976/7 (two years, yes, they only wanted one) are it for me. This period saw the release of Boz Scagg's Silk Degrees album, Queen's Night At The Opera, Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, Alice Cooper had Goes To Hell in '76 and Lace and Whiskey in '77 (Lace and Whiskey had How You Gonna See Me Now and You and Me, both 100% worth listening to!!) as well as a lot of good local music. And this one, A New World Record by ELO. Tightrope, Rockaria and this track are the standouts in my mind, but to be honest, the whole album is gold!
Hey, Fam! This was the first "hit" I knew by ELO. probably 1974-75? (check it out: telephones actually had to ring..no caller ID... almost no "message services"...) I have seen live versions much more recent featuring Jeff Lynne - he just stays awesome... thanks for your reaction! (p.s. I still have the vinyl!)
For your next ELO song, I think you should react to their 1977 classic, *"Standin' In The Rain",* you two will love it! :D Studio version, from their double album, Out of The Blue. *"Standin' In The Rain",* is the first song of a 4-song suite, known as Concerto For A Rainy Day, that comprises one full side of the double album. The 4th and final song of that suite is your favorite ELO track, *"Mr. Blue Sky".* Only Jeff Lynne could write a 4-song suite about the weather and make it into a masterpiece! :D
I was shocked when you said you only know "Mr Blue Sky" from Guardians of the Galaxy !! As a Guy born in Birmingham, England, ELO was my favorite band and local band growing up. Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan and Roy Wood, Harmonies and instrumental arrangements are the best!!
The Live Sample: For the song Time Of Our Life on the 2019 From Out Of Nowhere album, a portion of Telephone Line from the June 24, 2017 concert (released on Wembley Or Bust) was sampled and added to the song. Peace out.
Amigos, Saludos..pero si este es un hit alrededor del Mundo desde 1976 ,un clásico para ELO una de sus mejores Top 10 en muchísimos países. Gran reacción.
Great reactions. If you haven’t heard any thing from ELO’s “Secret Messages” album, check out “Stranger” and “Bluebird”. It’s an earlier album, one of my favorites that I feel is very under rated.
People often think ELO copied the Beatles. But it’s mostly when the Beatles used orchestration occasionally. ELO used it in nearly every song. When singers use falsetto, people claim they are copying the Beegees. The other thing is that music of every era uses similar concepts and topics, that’s just natural.
Yay ! Cracking Track, from an even more Spliffic Album ! Time less Gem ! Have you Peeps seen the Fab Space Ship Set they had on a USA tour ( Think it was 1978) It is Amazing . Im sure somebody out there (No Pun intended ) Knows the Details ! IMO this is ELO at the very Top of their Game ! Cheers ,
Fabulous lyrics , so well knitted together with the atmospheric music . Not gonna lie , this has been known to wet my eyes from time to time 😳.. Jeff is such a keen observer of life and emotion and has that undefinable gift of being able to express that in a killer line …. Sigh.. it’s just a wonderful song . The pesky mobile has rendered the subtext of the lyrics obsolete ….🤷♂️ 👍🏴
Well said, sir, but it wasn't the mobile phone that rendered the subtext of the lyrics obsolete, it was the answering machine, long before the mobile arrived.
The Maida Vale bbc studio concert is worth watching. Or ex bbc as they have sold it off for profit and the new owners are applying for change of usage. As if the bbc doesn’t have enough money already! Anyway it’s a great concert to watch.
Jeff Lynne will have forever spoiled his reputation over those he excluded from the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Hall calls for the band to nominate those it wants inducted. Fleetwood Mac excluded Bob Welch, who was a band member for several crucial years as the group transformed from Blues artists to more pop/radio-friendly. And in the case of ELO Lynne included long time keyboardist Richard Tandy, Roy Wood (co-founder, but only a member for one album), and fellow co-founder Bev Bevan. BUT he excluded the three-man string section -so much part of the ELO sound, and also bass guitarist Kelly Groucutt… a member of the band for eight years! String-section member Michael Kaminski was their violinist for six years. It’s strange how these things work. Pink Floyd included Bob Klose who is not on any of their original albums and who left the band in 1965.
Elo absolutely ooze authenticity, unmistakable bev Bevan on the biscuit tins, brilliant 🏴✌️
ELO is like a warm blanket on a cold night. Comforting & warms the heart♥️

Yep - give it up for Jeff! Not just ELO, but also as part of the Traveling Wilburys!
Great to see younger generations appreciate great music that has stood the test of time.
Telephone Line was released in 1976 while Lionel's Hello came out in 1983 (7 years later). Just to clear up which came first. 😉
Brilliant track from ELO, long before the mobile had arrived.

Thank the lord your back Adam .. thought I’d offended you with my jesting the other day .. ✊
👍🏴
this song and "cant get it out of my head" are my favorites but i would say they never made a bad song...

Jeff has done some absolutely fantastic recording sessions with other artists. Including I think the Travelling Willburys
Great track from a group that delivers time after time and takes musical therapy to a different level.
I was shocked when you said you only know "Mr Blue Sky" from Guardians of the Galaxy !!

I think circa 1976, the hot summer we had in the Uk.

Got to love ELO. Peace out.

My favorite ELO piece, and that's saying something for me, as I like most all of their work.

ELO really are top notch
Yay ! Too Right Col !
The entire New World Record from start to finish is fantastic and IMO their best.
My favorite since it came out.
People have said this is where the Bearles would gone had they stayed together....
Try 'Out of the blue' double album as a patreon.
Everyone loves ELO.
GREAT SONG TEARS !!!!!!
✊👀
👍🏴
Safe to say Jeff Lynne is a genius & ELO are definitely " Beatlesque " 👍

Yes , spot on ! The Mobile Phone has rendered people ( mainly young)
the walking Zombee Generation ! The EMF s are messing us up !
Jeff's lyrical and musical gift is almost as great as your gift for razor sharp wit, but not quite!
@@Starburst_Candy I’m genuinely moved 👌

@@ghichens3418your not wrong ! 👀

Great song!
You are missing a trick here with ELO. Listen/watch them live at Wembley Stadium, then you will really see how good they are.
My favorite ELO song, I'm a big Jeff Lynne fan.
Lionel’s song was from the mid 80s. This is 1976.
The Maida Vale bbc studio concert is worth watching.
Or ex bbc as they have sold it off for profit and the new owners are applying for change of usage.
As if the bbc doesn’t have enough money already!
Anyway it’s a great concert to watch.
These guys’ energy level could land them a job on NPR.
I really enjoy ELO.
Son of the Beatles John Lennon ounce said of ELO
Please consider reacting to “Brontosaurus” by The Move, featuring Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan along with Roy Wood, later forming ELO.Rock on!
Jeff Lynne will have forever spoiled his reputation over those he excluded from the induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

'Telephone line' is Alice Cooper's favourite E.L.O. song.
Now kick it up with Rockaria and Do Ya'.
Many times ELO were said to have been heavily influenced by the Beatles. Like so many other groups were.
Sample "Showdown "
Showdown is a tuuuune!!!! 👍
Not enough cowbell !!!!
You should have reacted to the live version at wembly stadium
Doesn't sound like the Beatles at all. It's familiar because it was a massive hit 🤷
I am the walrus?
C n C, perhaps you think it sounds like something from Sergeant Pepper?
You talk too much.
