    Your video helped so much. Lol I was stuck for a second on the simple things since i'm new to this thing so thought i'd help anyone slow as I was lol. Thanks again. @ 4:27 I didn't catch how the formula was copied and pasted. Copied from goggle search: Set up your formula in the top cell, position the mouse in the lower right-hand corner of the cell until you see the plus, and double-click. Note that this option can copy the formula down as far as Excel finds data to the left. If you have row headers or other data in place, Excel continues to copy the formula.

    This was very useful, but on my windows PC that little notebook isn't anywhere to be seen in June 2023. I eventually found that clicking on "saved" (between History and Contribute, at the bottom of the screen), the saved items appear on the right as in the video, then there's an icon which looks like a black flag with a white cross (between sort and three dots near top) to click so you can export to Google sheets.

    Excellent video, thank you. Most complete and thorough I could find. I was able to create and import an extensive Chinese vocabulary list complete with tone marks. One problem I had was Google Translate was not an audio option. I've seen some comments that Google has made this feature unavailable to Anki. None of the other available translators provided even adequate translation. Any suggestions?

    • @olstearn
      @olstearn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi josey, Google has recently stopped supporting third party apps like awesometts. This was a pain as it was the only one that did bahasa Indonesia too. Im sure the developers are working on implementing another service if they haven't already but it may be worth notifying them. Please share your anki deck with me and ill see if my tool for bahasa (see my latest video) will work for Chinese too.

    • @joseycurtis633

      Thanks again for putting the time and effort into this topic. Very much appreciated by many I am sure. I suggested imTranslator to Anki as a replacement for Google. My deck is on desktop Anki. I'll try to create a shared deck. In the mean time as I go through my cards I record the Google translation from my phone. Slow but accurate.

  • @MarioAlejandro3
    @MarioAlejandro3 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Very useful tutorial thank you very much for your contribution, I would like to ask you a big favor, if you can help me with two questions,
    1. It happens to me that I can not make anki cards that have a word in English, Audio, Image, and Meaning in Spanish, all this through the "media import" and the "Import", I think I have done all the steps but I have left clutter, or I duplicate the images, or the audios do not match the card in question, or do not appear the audios and or the cards.
    2. When I synchronize the PC with the mobil after having created a deck (when I make manual test decks making card by card), the images are lost and also the audios, and I want to know how to do so that this does not happen .

    • @olstearn
      @olstearn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mario,
      Sorry for the late reply. Actually I have never ever used the media import functionality when manually creating a card. I would have thought it would put it in your media collection folder but it sounds like this is not happening if they are missing when you sync.
      You could try just sticking all the media (audio and images) into the media collection folder and see what happens. Perhaps the file paths are pointing there but the media is just missing. This will then get uploaded when you sync and should be accessible from any device.
      If you have duplicate images, you can always have a look at the cards html and remove the duplicate very easily. While you are there, you could check that the audio corresponds to the correct card.

    • @olstearn
      @olstearn  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Luke,
      Head to the 6:40 Ish mark and just check that the import settings look like mine did, I.e. fields separated by tabs, one set to go to the front, the other to the back etc. Assuming that's right, go to your .txt document and ctrl +f a single tab character (so they will hopefully all be highlighted). You might find that you've pasted an extra column by accident, or there is just a tab out of place somewhere confusing the heck out of the import process. If you still have trouble share the txt document with me and I'll have a gander and try importing it myself. Good luck!

      Hi Leon, I dont know any services which do khmer Im afraid. If you find a service which does it, let me know and I may be able to integrate it into a script I wrote which automatically adds audio to your deck (I did this while google temporarily discontinued their tts service).

  • @RawthoughtTV
    @RawthoughtTV 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    THIS IS SO HELPFUL. Thank you. One weird thing though is that mine is adding one at a time then sleeping for 30 seconds between each card, so I think I'll be waiting a while for the audio to be added. Was yours instant or was it just edited down?

    • @olstearn
      @olstearn  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Loki, Google are trying to discourage use of their TTS service, which may be why you're finding it slow. AwesomeTTS use a disclaimer saying that they do not recommend it for mass generation any more.
      Still, you can adjust how long it sleeps for, and how often it sleeps if, in Anki, you go to tools->AwesomeTTS and then under the MP3 tab, you will find the 'download throttling during batch processing' settings. Tweaking those should probably get you 10 or so between each 30 second wait.

    • @RawthoughtTV
      @RawthoughtTV 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, can you tell me if there is any possibility to have the audio from google translator but not necessary their translations? I mean if I want to add to Anki a translation for a word that google translator is translating not 100% well but with their pronunciation, can I do it?
    For example, in italian mamma is mum. GT translates mum to madre. I want in my Anki that my card is english "mum" and correct answer is italian "mamma", so not like google translate says. But I want them to give me the pronunciation of my translation, so of word "mamma". Is that possible?

      hi @przemyslaw - sure, you can skip out the google translate side of things all together and just use the awesome TTS plugin to add audio to any Anki cards you like.

    I lack basic tech intelligence and this seems very difficult. Is there a way to make this process... even easier...?

      For example how did you get your google deck to connect to Awesometts program?

      @olstearn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ThaddeusBA actually there is... Providing your phrasebook is all in one direction, export to Google sheets, copy the first two columns and paste them into the 'import' screen in anki. You'll still need to follow the bit of this video on the settings to use (front of card, back of card etc) but that'll cut out the spreadsheet formula which i imagine is a bit daunting.

      ThaddeusBA you need to get it into Anki first. That is exactly what this long winded video covers. You cannot connect them directly as far as i know.

    Just starting to build my Bahasa deck now, so this vidoe is extremely helpful, thanks very much. Btw in your video you mentioned you found a free online course material (the M1 to M8), would you be willing to share the source?

      David Meade hi David, yes indeed. I'm talking about The Indonesian Way. you can download the anki decks here:
      indonesianway.com/tiw/spaced-repetition/
      All the course material is also free at the moment, but will cost $5 in the near future so its a good time to assess if it suits your needs (or download all you can). I think it's great. Good luck!

      Thank you very much Olstearn.
      Another question, is it possible/ have u any tutorials on how embed audio as a press function ie.so it doesn't say it automatically, u have to click the word?

    • @olstearn
      @olstearn  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Meade
      Hi David. It seems that this depends on what device you are using Anki on. The android version of Anki, Ankidroid automatically adds a 'replay' button to the cards, so you can simply turn autoplay off (click the deck from your main screen, click options at the bottom left, then 'general' and untick 'auto play audio'). If you are reviewing on a pc, then when you do this the audio disappears but there is no button to play it. In this case you may need an add-on, such as:
      ankiweb.net/shared/info/498789867
      or if you want more advanced audio controls, this:
      ankiweb.net/shared/info/1591259314
      Perhaps worthy of a video at some point :)
