Simple words, not a super complicated idea, but the words that were picked to describe all of this stuff overlap too much. Thank you for making this tutorial and I plan to use it to help others too!
if you are using the latest version of anki check options on the top right hand corner. There is an option to add cards there. This should solve the problem for you.Cheers to learning Anki .
@@marvhartigan3677 I'm trying to find it too, but I'm Windows not Mac user and it looks a bit different... Is there a possibility that Windows version doesn't have this option?
This is really awesome and I've been looking at how to do this for some time. My only problem is that after I add the question, the new cards appear but as soon as I complete one of the cards, the rest are no longer considered new cards and I am only able to do that one card. Not sure what mistake I am making.
Yes, exactly. In some cases, seeing one of the generated cards will indirectly give you a hint or the full answer for the other cards, so Anki will "bury" them automatically, meaning you'll only see one of those cards. But that function can be turned off, as you found out. For more detail, see this video I just recorded: th-cam.com/video/JYya5Nmgicc/w-d-xo.html
Is there a more recent video Anki could link? I don't have some of these options and I can't proceed following this tutorial. I can make different types of cards but they aren't linked together at all and I don't seem to have the option to do that so that multiple cards generate.
My problems is to display the 3 fields one after another (for a 3 fields card). Is this possible ? Ex: Noun / Translation / Examples What happens to me is that the card displays field 1 and Fields 2&3 together. From what I've heard it is possible but I can't figure how.
Hi I tried doing what you suggested for creating multiple cards off the same answer but the problem is that this is changing ALL the cards in the deck to create different types of cards. Like for instance, imagine you have 50 regular front and back cards but you added 3 of the cards with the card types as you mentioned such as, recognize the hiranga character, produce the haranga character and write the example word etc. Now when I make this change, the rest of my 50 cards also have these 3 extra cards for each one which I don't really need. Can you tell me how to do this without changing the rest of the deck? Thanks!
Hey, don't know if you still need help with that. These changes will always affect all the cards with the same note type, so if you change the note type you have used for all of your "old" simple front/back cards, they will also be changed. A way around this is to simply create a new note type under "Tools" "Manage note types" - then, when you create new cards simply select your new note type at the top left in the "add" window.
Eric, the Anki manual explains fields but doesn't explain how to create the database for the fields. One of my entries (templates) has a grammar question. I want to type the answer so that Anki will indicate whether the spelling is correct. That answer is also a vocabulary word. But there are two meanings and spellings of that word that essentially mean the same thing (while = ながら、間)。I have to have the correct "while" go in its field. If you have a video, would you tell me the link?
Sorry I'm two years late (I hope you are still checking your channel). I'm trying to getting the hang of Anki, but I find it a bit complicated and there's something I can't figure out. When I choose the type "Basic (and reversed card)" I am supposed to get two cards, and not just one. But when I study the deck I only find one. What do I do wrong?
This is awesome, I just started using Anki, thanks! Question though… coming from Quizlet, I would like to be able to use simple flashcards to drill vocabulary, and when I feel good about them, switch to a card type that allows me to type the word. The problem (I think) is that as I use the flashcards and get them, I will stop seeing them and not be able to type them out. When I switch card types, I'd like to basically be starting from scratch. I tried creating a new deck with the same cards, and Anki won't let me (I'm on the Mac version). Any tips on how I might accomplish this or another approach on how to do this? Thanks in a dvance!
If you want to change the card type you will have to go to Browse > Notes > Change Note Type. In addition it is probably a good idea to reset that card. To do that go to Browse > Cards > Forget. Hope that helps :)
I downloaded a premade deck for Korean … Is there a way that I can mass produce different card types within the premade deck? Or… Do I just have to make the deck from scratch or do it individually?
if you delete a card(example a blank one )the whole 4notes gets deleted .is there a way to prevent this . (there is some way this is prevented in image occlusion enhanced).pls advice.and thanks for the great video
You can't delete a card from the Browser, only the note. (You can click Tools→Empty Cards… though). You can, however, *not create* blank cards. By default, Anki doesn't create cards, whose front side is empty. So in Tools→Manage Note Types, when you select the note that might or might not create up to 4 cards, make sure that each card type has the potentially empty field on the front side. See more: apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#cardgeneration
I have a problem, when I generate a custom study deck, the multiple cards don't appear the cards as single cards, only appear the first field, but the next doesn't
Do you mean that during review, one card associated with the note appears, while others don't? If so, this is called burying sibling cards (apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#siblings-and-burying). You can turn this off, by clicking “Options” (either the ‘cog’ symbol to the right of the deck in the deck list, or button at the bottom inside the deck) and removing checkmark “Bury related new cards until the next day”.
Yes, tags are for the entire note. What are you trying to do? Suppose you have a note type that generates 2 card types called “Forward” and “Backward”. If you want to only display “Forward” cards in the browser, you can write “card:Forward” in the search field.
My question is: why they don't work on the same organization (we saw on your preview) on our mobile? Because we I start using it they show themselves separately, for example, the first card now and the second part after I have seen the other cards. does the same happen to you?
OMG this program makes my head spin... How do you type in Japanese in Anki? Is it all with an IME on your computer or can Anki do it in-program? And if you're doing something like RTK where you're trying to learn kanji without knowing the pronunciation, how do you add them to the card? Thanks for your help!
Cool, now I wanna get some of those card type into a sub desk I've tried adding tags just to the second "card2" but then it automatically adds the same tag to my "card1" it's there a solucion to this? please :,D I might die.
Can you have a card which shows a different card back depending on the deck you're viewing it in For example if you have a card With 運動 on the front and on the back, if you're in 日本語::語彙 it says うんどう on the back but in 中文::詞彙 it would say yùndòng
You might be interested in the feature called “Deck Override”. Go to Tools→Manage Note Types, select the note you want to modify, press “Cards…”, and in Anki 2.1 in the top-right corner, there will be a button “Options” (in Anki 2.0 you have to press button “More” at the bottom). There you can specify which card type should go to which deck on creation. See more: apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#deckoverride
Thanks for your videos. You seem to be angry and try to vent it out on your keyboard! (Don't you think you smash the keys instead of only pushing them? LOL) Any way, as I said, thank you.
Hi there Eric, I have been able to successfully make this... However, I was wondering if it is possible for me to allocate the different types of cards I have made into specific locations (e.g. sub-decks) for specific cards. E.g. From that single note I have made 5 different types of cards: - English to French (Fill-In) - French to English (Fill-In) - French Audio to English (Fill-In) - Image to French (Fill-In) - Missing Word in a Sentence (Fill-In) and after pressing done after filling out 5 different fields I would like the cards formerly mentioned to go into 5 separate sub-decks that they belong in, this is so that I can choose what type of activity/card types I want to do whenever I want (instead of, current situation, where all 5 of these card types are in one big deck. Really hope you can help me! :)) P.S. I have tried to use tags etc. but they have been proven unsuccessful as the tag allocates itself to all 5 different card types as they were made using 'one card' with 5 different fields.
Couldn't you create the 3 cards yourself without wasting time with making the note AND the 3 individual cards? I don't see the benefits of this? Please help me if I am missing something.
If you manually created three cards, you would be doing just that - typing in three separate cards. Using the technique Eric explains, you would fill in all the fields just ONCE, then Anki would automatically create the three cards for you.
Gotta love those built in mics when the keyboard gets beaten like it owes you money

It was straight to the point. Thank you for creating this tutorial video.
Thank you so much for posting this! It was exactly what I was looking for to create multiple cards to cross practice with multiple languages. :)
Great man! Thanks for sharing it! Best regards from Brazil!

There's no plus sign on my anki, which version is this?

@Shyasti @André On windows you need to use the dropdown menu in the top right of the browser windows. It's a dropdown called "options"
Thank you, Eric. It's really useful.
Thanks very much. I'm front Spain and I didn't find a good tutorial about Anki.
This is super handy..Thanks so much.
Thanks man. Really helped. Pretty easy in the end.

Hi, thanks for the video, it is totally awesome.
Can we do this to the whole collection? If we can, how?
Yes. As long as the whole collection same the type of note
Cheers mate!
Thanks. Very helpful

- French to English (Fill-In)
- French Audio to English (Fill-In)
- Image to French (Fill-In)
- Missing Word in a Sentence (Fill-In)
and after pressing done after filling out 5 different fields I would like the cards formerly mentioned to go into 5 separate sub-decks that they belong in, this is so that I can choose what type of activity/card types I want to do whenever I want (instead of, current situation, where all 5 of these card types are in one big deck.
