    "God will provide for me" reminds me of a story my Mom used to tell me. There was a man in a flood zone, and a car stopped and offered him a ride to safety. He said "no, God will save me." Later, a boat stopped by and offered to take him to safety, he said "no, God will save me." Then, trapped on his roof, a helicopter came by and offered to take him to safety, he said "no, God will save me." When he died, he asked God, "why didnt you save me?" And God said "I sent you a car, a boat and a helicopter, what more do you want from me?" Ma'am, God gave you a 180k salary, a son with a good head on his shoulders, and Caleb to knock some sense into you! Take the advice!

    • @fiveminutestolive
      @fiveminutestolive 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

      @hdw237 i don't know if I agree fully with that doctrine. God commanded farmers leave the edges of their fields unharvested for the poor. There's no shame in needing help, but I do belive God provides us with opportunities that we need to take and act on, and doesn't just drop money in our laps for sure. She has been given so much, so its important to think of how to use it, not just expect more, if that makes sense.

    • @hdw237
      @hdw237 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @fiveminutestolive EXACTLY. God didn't say harvest your crop, and prepare 20%, and hand deliver to the guy down the street who has some bs mental dx that he says means he can't work and to the single chick across town with 5 kids from 6 baby daddies who says she can't work because she has to take care of her kids.
      But that's what the govt puts a gun to our head and forces us to do.

      I wouldn't say its too late for her. I have seen people in absolutely terrible situations turn their life around. However, as a Christian here, yes she has got to drop the "God will provide" line. This especially makes me mad when I hear that. I have heard that myself A LOT and 9 times out of 10 it was a way to try to say they didn't need to do anything different. It's not what the Bible says and it's a weak excuse to avoid personal responsibility.

    Caleb (and team). I’m clergy (a pastor) and I’m sick of seeing people on here with terrible theology of giving. If you are in debt please don’t give to my church or any charity. And we love to help people get out of debt so they can be more generous.

    • @MissMosierable
      @MissMosierable 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +239

      That's how my husband was raised. His home church counted debt as a sin. People in debt were to offer service over money. The community helped people out of debt in hardship, but irresponsibility and lavishness was frowned on. People didn't live high, but they were mostly debt free and supported each other.
      Our church also doesn't pay for Bible classes or study. That seems scummy, too.

When we’re super tempted we send the other a video with our hands in a prayer form going “Caleb hammer - Caleb hammer if you can hear me right now, please help me - I swear Caleb give me strength” and we avoid spending on BULLSHIT.

      Invest judiciously, keep a stop loss figure. Shuffle between debt and equity wherever the ratio goes too off your target. As for the target, I recommend a Ratio like this Debt % should be equal to your age in years. If you are 20, debt is 20%, reset in equity. If the market falls or rises drastically, your debt % will change, which you should rebalance to 20% and bring back equity to 80%. Thus you would have bought low or booked profit depending on if it was a crash or a bull run.

    The daughter getting access to a credit card she doesn’t pay and the son not getting access just because he’s not a dumb ass is SO unfair and would make me sooo upset with my mom. There are things I have a sneaking suspicion my parents helped my younger brother with that they refused for me at the same age (co sign a car and fafsa for college) and that was a huge chip on my shoulder I had to get over. I wouldn’t blame the son for being extremely resentful and upset with mom after hearing that if he didn’t already know.

    Pastor's kid here who grew up in the church and saw the business side of multiple churches across the country of varying sizes. Tithing is not something she should prioritize right now. I promise you, if your church is encouraging you to disregard your financial situation and tithe the money first regardless of your situation, this is not correct. That's prosperity prophecy and it's a nice way churches make more money off of their congregation. Do not let them use the story of the woman giving the last of her coins persuade you to give when you have so little. In the stories case, she was cared for by her church and community, in this guests case, it is very unlikely the church will step in to help her with her debts. Please stop tithing until you're in a better situation, even Dave Ramsey recommends pausing tithing until financially sound.

      I grew up religious and I've never seen the amount of preaching around tithing like it is now. Recently attended my brother's church and the subliminal (as well as overt) messaging around tithing has become insane, and it's wholly obvious with people like this that it's no longer a gift back to God but instead reparations for your sins. Just like the rich man that came to Jesus begging for heaven there's no amount of money or giving that will get you there and yet I see it preached in churches every day. I could care less where people want to dump money, but when megachurches are rampant in cities filled with the homeless I already know their tithes aren't going to the right places, they love to take a trip to Haiti yet they'll let their own communities still suffer.

    • @CG-vn5xh

      I see your point but I think you’re missing the point of tithing. Tithing is reliance on God. It’s an act of prioritizing God over money or prosperity. You can pay off debt and tithe at the same time. However I would totally disagree with someone who says you have to tithe to a specific place or organization or says you won’t go to Heaven if you don’t tithe.

      Catholic here. General guidance is to tithe 10% of your yearly income, sometimes they put it as "keeping the Church between your electric and gas bill". If you can't do that then tithe what you are comfortable doing. If you can't tithe then don't tithe because your personal and family's well-being is more important. It means so much more when you see those tithes going to good work and being given back to the community. When my wife and I fell on hard times our Parish provided diapers for our son and even food for us. They even gave us everything we needed to celebrate thanksgiving that year. Wouldn't have been possible without other parishioners tithing. When I'm finally out of my debt I'll be budgeting for tithing because I know we weren't the only family benefiting from the Parish's services which were funded by tithes.

If it's a single person, he'll ask about grandma as daycare BEFORE he'll ask about another parent. It's gross. I've seen several guests (male and female) without custody who don't pay CS and Caleb just ignores it. One gues said of his ex and no CS, "She gets welfare" and Caleb was like "Cool." He'll bring up their word as a man/woman and their ethical obligation as a reason they should pay. As soon as someone comes on with kids, he tries to push the responsibility the parents have to care for their kids off onto anyone else altogether ignoring the ethical obligation a parent has to provide a basic standard of living for their kids. It's hypocritical to rant about a moral obligation to Calital One and not a kid the person created.

He'll rant and screaming abiut the moral obligation to pay off at car loan, but ignores the fact that parents are morally obligated to provide a basic standard of living to their kids. He'll rage against the kids being a retirement t plan, but he won't acknowledge that said kids deserve food on the regular when mom or dad is like "forget about paying for my kids." 1. She needs to get housing costs down to 1000 (two housemates in her current lease or into something cheaper or crash at son's house).
    2. She needs to get transportation expenses down (get out of current lease into a lease of ~200/month or finance a cheap used car).
    3. She needs to stop buying ANYTHING (except groceries and gas basically).
    This saves an extra 2k a month. Once the payday loan is done, that's another 2.5 k. So 4.5k to put towards debt/retirement.

      @@MaanHabibi42 In Catholicism it would be. It's symbolic there (also a whole parish of $20 and suddenly you have hundreds of dollars, enough for the upkeep of the building, priest, and expensive clothing and trinkets they use). The church already has plenty of other ways to make money anyway. And the richest can easily be more generous than 10%. On the other hand, in Catholicism, at least the one I know, it's parishers cleaning the church for example, so instead of or besides tithing you can give to the church by cleaning it, gathering flower petals for the celebrations, reading the scripture during important holidays, sing in choir and do other things that are needed for the church.

      When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God.

In her situation, with all the interest accrued, she basically worked 2 months just to have that money ripped away from her. 2) realizing that store cards for sales is a scam. She basically said that the Nordstrom card was for the sale. But technically you didn’t save any money if you had to pay thousands extra for interest and fees.
