Applying K rend HP12 Base Coat Cement

  • Applying k rend base coat to brick face. We stuck the beads on using a grab adhesive then we used sbr to stop suction when applying the render. We done the side portion one day and the gable end the next day. We will be back in two weeks time to apply the silicone finish.

    I suppose it doesn't matter too much but I mesh on the second coat once the brickwork joints have been filled looks great, hope you film the silicone texture coat :D

    Very strange 'Rubbing-Up' technique chaps ... Looked like hard work .... Did it pass the Sunshine/Headlight test?? ... 😉

      It’s because we hit it too wet because we’re impatient hahaha yes was flat by the tile we we’re finished

    Do you need to use a primer before putting on the silicone if so which one!

      Yes you do mate. You can use a few different ones. You can either use Rendagrip or just do what we done and give it a good coat of sbr

      Depends on time of the year and the background you’re applying to but this time of the year on brick face probably about 40 mins

    Have used base coat and mesh systems for 20 +years here in the states not designed for scratch and double application
    It is a thin coat system with a top coat acrylic finish,that should have been s&c with a acrylic finish

      Yeah it is. Silicone render over the top hence why it’s not smooth finished

    I've never seen base coat done like this, always told let dry prime with same colour top coat apply top coat and rub up to finish job done?

      Yeah this will still be primed and the top coat and rub up top coat too we just like a nice flat &smooth base coat too

    Why did you put orange mesh over on the angles at the corner of the windows on top of the area that was already meshed? Thanks in advance

      We do this to prevent cracking on stress points. Just gives the weak spots that little bit more strength ;)

    Try 6mm beads next time.
    Save an absolute fortune on render.

    Like the comments say use a diamond float bro, other method I do is let it set then I bar it back and float 👊🏻

    Why would you float the base coat? Its weakening the base coat and a lot of work. Should be able to use spatulas and make it flat and definitely use key coat to cover the brick first. 😢

      Yeah customer wanted it rendered to match the back but the brickwork was fairly bad up close to be honest

      Yeah it has to be rubbed up because it’s only a thin coat system going over the top. Google thin coat systems

      @@Ryan_Clarke_Plastering yeah get one mate I’ve just got one the dogs nuts so much quicker and gets it flatter. Out of interest what sealer are you using? We us rendergrip but to expensive. Also are you using 10mm or 6mm beads ? Good vid lads

      @@Ryan_Clarke_Plastering 1.5mm silicone is very unforgiving the basecoat has to be really flat to achieve the desired finish. This ain't flat.

      You obviously don't do much if any rendering. You're not floating the wall with those little strokes of the float pal. If you handed someone a float who has never rendered before they would do it like that.
