I agree 100%. I really think he could have his own TV show. He could pick up where Lee Emery left off with mail call. But I really don't think that's hickok's speed. He loves his range and he loves to shoot and he shares it with us. If he did a TV show there be too much BS for him.
I guess that's what we all love about Hickok45. As Lynyrd Skynyrd would say he's a simple man.

My Dad, well he’s my uncle but he feels like my dad because he raised me. He was born in 1956. He’s a great man. When I was younger I saw Tombstone for the first time. He reminds me of Wyatt Earp. To beat it all the family calls him Kurt. I love single actions. I don’t have a Colt yet, but if I get the money to get one I want to find one made in 1956 or 1993 for the year I was born in. Every Colt you show on here I drool on the screen lol. I love this video the most.

great video!, as always... In between colt moving to WW2 arms and 1956, there was a company based out of LA named Great Western Arms. They used a good (or all) portion of the design of the colt sa to make theirs. These were used in many of the movies we both grew up with. I was just passed down from my father a GW 357 Atomic (Magnum), what a great piece of history, shoots great, both magnums and 38 spcl

Everybody has discovered the fun of an AR15, including me, but there are still folks out there who just might never encounter the beauty, history, and enjoyment of a fine revolver if we don't work on it. :-) Actually, it's just the results of my extreme love of revolvers and historic firearms. That's why our viewers will always be subjected to plenty of revolvers and muzzleloaders.

I have a 2nd gen 1st year Colt SAA .45 long colt. I picked it up several years ago. I had a kel tec or Ruger 380, I don't remember which, that I had listed for sale. I was contacted by a younger guy that wanted to trade the SAA for the 380. I knew absolutely nothing about those guns but I was smart enough to know being Colt it was a better trade for me. I asked the guy why he wanted to trade it. He said that it was passed down to him from his grandfather and that when he shot with his friends they gave him a hard time about shooting it. He said he wanted a newer auto pistol. I actually tried to talk him out of trading it based on the sole fact that it was his grandfather's. I knew it was Colt and probably old being his grandfather owned it so I knew it was worth more than my gun but had no clue what the value was. Well, after trying for a few minutes to change this guys mind because I couldn't imagine trading something a grandparent left me, he was sure he wanted my 380. Couple of weeks later I shot about 12 rounds through it and enjoyed it. Several months later we went on vacation and my father in law asked me to bring it to a gun shop where we were going, to get info about the SAA. The guy behind the counter asked about it, seemed to like it and asked how I acquired it. I can still remember the dumbfounded look of disbelief when I told him the story. He called another employee over and asked that I repeat the story and I got another look of disbelief. Then he told me what he valued the gun at and I had a look of disbelief lol. That was probably about 10 or so years ago. I still have it in the safe where she sits and I only get her out every now and then to look at. This video has made me wonder what the value may be now.

I know this is from 5 years ago, but it is new to me. Enjoyed the video. I recently was given this same gun from my father, who retired from law enforcement in 1982. I myself retired from law enforcement in 2005. He is now 93 and most of his good years a behind him. Thought you might enjoy the story behind the gun.........In 1956 he was a very young officer for a local police department in Oregon. A hardware stored was burglarized of many guns. The suspect was eventually caught and the many guns were returned from evidence after the case was adjudicated. He was assigned to return the evidence. When he returned the evidence, this one Colt SAA .38 Special 4 3/4 inch barrel, SN 6***SA, stood out. He asked the owner if he could buy it and the owner said yes. They worked out an arrangement of $10 a month until it was paid off, which was about a year. I think he said it was around $125.00. So he has had that gun virtually from day one. Now the other day he brought it out of the closet and passed it down to me. He is still a gun collector, but I had not seen this one before. He then proceeded to tell me the entire story behind it which took about an hour (you got the short version). It was one of those special moments in life between a father and a son. I am a winchester guy and don't know much about colts. So in the process of learning and reading about this gun I came across this video. It's been a fun couple of days learning about the gun and having the full story behind it. Thanks for your videos as it has been very enjoyable for me to learn more about these revolvers.

Cool vid... I'm developing an interest in the Old West guns so it's cool that you have several vids featuring them, thank you. Hey Hickok, have you ever done any vids on any of the double-action pistols that were available in the Old West? The only one I know of is the 1877 Colt Lightning and Thunder and I've been looking through Cimmaron Firearms site and they do offer a repro of the Lightning but it's only in single action. Of course my interest in the 1877 double-action is because of Doc Holliday ;)

Nice shooting. Very beautiful guns. You should do a segment on the remmington model 700 7mm CDL rifle

My dad had bought a brand new Colt 45 in 1956. He was only 21 years old at he time. I was born 1962. He was a cowboy and had the full leather waist belt holster that you can put the ammo all around the waist. - I can remember as a young kid watching him use that 45 when we would go camping in the Sierra Mountains. He shot a few rattlesnakes and such.
Many years later as we all got older I would ask my dad about that 45. I eventually moved in with my dad in 2008 as his health got bad. It was then in 2008 I could not find that Colt. As it turned out a "friend" of his talked him into selling it. I was very disappointed as I thought this was going to be a heirloom. My dad said it was too heavy and bought a 9mm. I never knew who the "friend" was. - My dad passed away in 2018
So, 1 May 2024, a stranger came to my house and said he had my dad's 1956 Colt 45. He had bought it from a family of the "friend" who originally bought it from my dad. The "friend" had passed away. So, the guy that came to my house realized that this Colt once belonged to my dad. It came with the original Colt box with small wire cleaning brush in a tube, 1956 bill of sales and registration.
The funny part was that the guy knew of my dad through cowboy clubs plus a book my dad wrote titled "Where The Reel West Was Won" - (My dad was an extra for scenes in Bonaza and wanted to be a stunt man. My grandfather pulled my dad out of the movie industry for moral reasons) - As it turned out, the funniest part about this, the guy was looking for me to see if I wanted the gun BUT did not realized we were only 4 houses away. He said he wished he knew he had been neighbors with my dad all along.
Long story short, I got this memorable heirloom Colt back in the family again

That's a great story; glad it ended well for you and you got the gun after all. Once these special guns get away, we rarely get them back. Being the first year of 2nd Generation Colt production, that Colt is special for THAT reason, too. Of course, the real value is that it was your dad's.
I'd love to have the exact Colt Python back that I sold in Franklin, Tn, in about 1974, as well as the Ruger Blackhawk I let get away at about the same time.

The second gen serial numbers did not get all the way up to 80000 when second gen production ceased. When the third gen went into production Colt started the serial numbers at 80001SA. Note: "SA" suffix, like the second gens. When the numbers reached 100000 they started over with the "SA" as a prefix. Later when they reached 100000 again, they started over and split the "SA" to an "S" prefix and an "A" suffix.
So....... the early third gens did have an "SA" suffix, from 80000 to 100000. This is all explained in more detail in Don Wilkerson's book on the third gen Colts. The point is: An "SA" suffix does not automatically mean a Colt Single Action is a second gen model. Hope this helps.

Hey hickok, for your consideration, it's been a while since you've posted a slugfest... "Give the people what they want." Thanks for all the great videos, I watch you all day, everyday.

Yeah, a really long time, as in about a week or two ago. :-) You ever been to the home channel page and just clicked on videos? A lot of people never do that, which I always think is odd, because that's exactly what I do all the time. I like to go to a person's channel and see what they've done recently.

oh man - You know what, I even watched that video. I'm sorry.... thanks for keeping up with those... sorry to bother you, but while I have you're attention; one shotgun I've always loved was that SPAS-12 (It was in the first Jurassic Park). Even if you don't get to do a video with that, do you have any thoughts on it? No worries if you don't get back to me, I know you're busy, but thanks.
