Fromsoft has learned from watching us eat dirt against Nameless King. Our biggest weakness is the delayed attack. So the bosses and even regular enemies are full of delayed attacks to punish early rolls.
So much this. I have a bad habit of dodging just a fraction of a second to early in all Souls games. But ER took that mechanic to 11. It's crazy how many bosses and even normal enemies have delayed attacks and overall weird attack timings. I just beat Godefroy at the Golden Lineage Evergaol a few minutes ago and I was able to dodge through most of his attacks fine. But the ones that kept hitting me over and over were the couple ones where he wind ups, and then holds it for an eternity before swinging. You'd think that be a good thing because you have more time to react. But it does not work that way.
@@IIXLR8II do you have damage mitigation from sells? golden vow + blessing gives you ~90 damage mitigation I was able to take a couple of hits before dying.
I've skipped a lot of stuff, and i managed to get to him at 71 (and also took him down) what in gods name have you been doing in this game to reach him at 28? did you just follow the main road from start to getting to him without even going to the sides or in a crypt or something :P?
@@TheCheat_1337 I know my friends, that's how i got there in the first place, which i why i asked, how are you guys level 30 up until that point?? why aren't you guys doing dungeons and side content? i played mostly blind and did 0 farming, i only explored most places only once, so again, why you guys rushing :)) go back and fully explore (or at least mostly) Liurna and Limgrave + Caelid... i finished let's say 70% of these zones before i got to that boss.. i will post my tactics in another comment below for mates that wanna go full melee and beat this guy.
@@pederbergenwall Level 71 with 22 strength and agility, 40 vigor, great mace +11, managed to do him after 1,5h of wiping (a little over 20 deaths) last try when i got him down, i also had like 6 crimson flasks left, very very very difficult boss, but very doable - Full melee, 0 magic, miracles, summons or spirits. Recommendations: First off, he is a gargoyle, aka made of stone, aka takes much more dmg from striking, so if you have a mace/hammer/club, use that, my main weapon Bloodhound fang, but i also level a mace at the same time because of RPG elements in souls series, you smash gargoyles and skeletons and golems easier. And lastly, the best thing that you can do to help...charging and jump attacks, dunno how many jumping it takes to stagger, but for charging, it's 3 fully charged attacks in a decent time window, and he staggers, always at the 3rd, i staggered him 4 times during the fight, the last stagger was at like 2% so i managed to kill the fooker with a critical hit..was epic. You can do a guaranteed charging without him hitting back, in sword stance after he does that frenzy 5 hit combo, when he ends it, you have time to fully charge and dodge his next attack. You can do a guaranteed charging without him hitting back, in halberd stance, after he does his flying in the air and dash towards you attack (not the one with red tornado) you have time to fully charge. Try to do jumping attacks in between when you can...i hope this helps, let me know if guys managed to down him while using this info :)
Radahn is absolutely trash weak boss compare to this guy. I dont even know why the lore called him the mightiest of all demigod. And the lore says Malenia vs that trash and there is no victor lmao. What a load of crap!
I hung mainly around his crotch area as a good 60% of his attacks overshot where I was standing. I used all my crimson tear flasks and barely escaped with the win, only to get popped by one of the small enemies below, thus killing me in the process I still got the runes back, but actually yelled out: “WE DIDNT INVITE YOU TO THIS FIGHT!”

Hugging the crotch and in some cases booty works well for a lot of larger ebemies. Enemies that are slightly larger like these hugging the crotch and enemies that are way more larger than you hugging the booty and straffing continuously. What remains constant is your patience and reading the timing of enemies move set. The only enemy that punished me so hard for wrong dodges was nameless king. But nowadays I stand right up his face.
On my first try i got him down to about 5% hp before dieing. Thought he would be easy after that, boy how wrong i was. After that it took me 1,5 hours of constantly getting my ass beat to finally kill him. What a relief. I feel like sometimes your first try on a boss goes a lot better than when you start to learn his moveset. Might be a psychological effect idk
It took me 4 hours to beat this guy... a word of advice for melee, it is much easier to deal with his halbert, than his sword... both of his charge attack using the halbert are the easier to punish than the rest of his moves
I have trouble with his triple red ring of death though, usually always die when he pulls that out, his sword attacks I can pretty easily defend and dodge
I cannot reliably dodge his halbert rush, even after hours of fighting him. I feel like the game is legit fucked on that attack. Sometimes dodging to the side works, sometimes dodging straight through it works, but it feels entirely random. It's the one move that still kills me every attempt. I'm on my third play through of the game and still stuck on this fuckbucket for like 2 hours *just because of that one move*. It seems to make a big difference whether he's coming up or down or across the slope, but aside from that I can identify no consistent way to dodge through it. It's noteworthy that in this video he mostly just shields through it.
@@masterchain3335 for real bro. I’m still trying to dodge his halbert rush since I only use a greatsword (Gut’s sword) without a shield. Maybe next time I’ll try blocking his attack with my sword (probably gonna die anyway).
I came back at level 120 and it was still insanely hard. He has so much fucking health. I find it's easiest to just forego dodging and wield a greatshield and poke.
I thought this guy was some sort of guardian for the sanctum. He was intimidating but when I got here at low level I went up to the guy and walked all around him to check him out. Not once did he move. I teleported back and forth several times for various reasons and then like the 3 or 4th time I been back to this Grace, he had turned hostile and immediately attacked me. For so long he was kind. But then I don’t know what I did. He attacked me and I figured out he was a boss. Because the boss health bar doesn’t show up until he engages you. So I had no idea honestly lol
Same happened to me. The first time I went there he just stood there. I saw him and thought “that’s a boss” then when I walked up it didn’t budge. Second time I went it attacked me from behind lol
If your struggling, as soon as you rest at the grace, come out get behind the creature, while on the horse use rock sling or another magic projectile, hit him once or twice, run to the left behind the building wait until he settles back into his position rinse and repeat until he is dead. Its slow but effective . make sure you have plenty of fp flask
He also takes poison damage you can poison cloud him or poison arrow him and run behind the building till he resets. But, it's a lot easier to just make your first hit a stagger then chain stagger him. If he breaks the chain the run behind the building till he goes back to guard position then come back and chain stagger him again it's so much easier to chain stager him for cheese win.
never knew about the overhead slam when you're under him, just figured it was one of his other attacks. I suppose knowing not to be under him would've helped me the most here. Instead I just spell cheesed him at the door. still not an easy fight...
For those struggling with this fight, you can use Latenna the spirt summon down the road. She outrange his attacks and will kill it by herself as long as you stand somewhere in the middle. I put on regen shield, regen talisman in case he hit me with his one ranged ability. I then went and made coffee and when I got back dragon was dead. The more you upgrade the spirit the faster the kill ofc. Mine was +4. edit: The idea is that any non-arena restricted enemy has a range where it will stop following you. From this range you have to add the range of his ranged abilities. Outside of that you are safe from hits. Latenna is ideal for this concept as her range will probably always be longer than the range of the enemies. She just needs line of sight, a safe spot from other random enemies and that's it. I recommend using a bow to speed the kills up and to have the enemies constantly being at their max aggro range.
@@levicrews3713 You are not safe in the church. He can fuck you up with long range in there and Latenna will struggle hitting anything, as the doors will blcok most shots. I put her in a straight line down the road from where he stands. I had to do some trial and error for where she could stand and hit somewhat reliably while still being safe. If you run down the road you will see the summon spirit sign disappear. From that point I went up like 1/4 or 1/5 of the distance to the gargoyle. You need to stand quite a bit closer than Latenna though so the gargoyle will keep going up and down.

@@Chronux Latenna --- 40meters --- You ---(max range of boss attacks) - Boss. If you don't stand in a place where the boss will keep going back and fourth it will simply deaggro to its default pos where Latenna can no longer shoot it.
@@Chronux If you go down the road there is this golden tree right. Place Latenna a little further down than that. You have to be on the boss' side of the golden tree or the boss will just deaggro and Latenna can't reach him. You can shoot arrows and the boss will constantly try to move back and fourth. If you place Latenna too close so she always can hit him he will most likely kill her.
Great video. I haven't invested in magic, so your video opened my eyes to running out on Torrent to attack and then running back into the building. Was a slow go, but worked!
For big sword peoples his one combo sword you can land one jump heavy. Same with his two hit. Just pay attention if he’s still holding the sword out. For the third hit combo the stab you can jump attack over it. His axes you can roll towards him even his double swing. For the really slow one wait till u see the side of the axe to dodge it’s a weird timing. his sword flurry of attacks has a two slash pause two slash combo so it’s enough to dodge pause and dodge again. Spamming dodge usually gets caught. But if your second dodge goes behind him his last hit will not hit you. Seeing the differences between his axe swings is hard but if you see him bring it over his shoulders he’s going for that three hit combo. I hope this helps just small beta! i believe people can beat him with no damage!
Faced this guy early on, foolishly believed that it must have been an early game boss cause i used the portal. Would shoot, hide behind pillar near the beast, wait to loose agro and repeat. Somehow managed to cheese the guy with upgraded bow, TONS of different arrows, Great arrows and basically ending with rock sling at the end. This guy made me freaking scared/run away from every other similar enemies cause I kept thinking they were stronger!
It's not rot or bloodflame it's a weak version of Destined Death used by Maliketh the Black Blade hence the names of the two Black Blade Kindreds. It also weirdly counts as holy damage so resistance to that should help 😊 wonderful video!
This guy was infuriating me. First time I ran into him I was a super low level so I ran away. Then I did try to fight him later on. He one shotted me. Tried to fight him again before I finished the game and still was having a hard time. I beat the damn game and he was mopping the floor with me. I finally got him.
I’m on my second playthrough and doing a no summon run and beat him level 60 with dragon halberd, took 6 tries but ate a pickle as soon as he dies and boom 100k+ runes I used the two defensive opal one tears and spear, axe, and turtle talisman He is still one of the harder bosses, especially if you’re using a halberd,but the main thing is when he has axe his moves are easier to counter, when he has sword be more careful
Weapon level really makes a difference for these fights, I fought him for half a day to no avail with my +5 weapon at lvl 71. As soon as I found the stones to get it to +8 it only took me a few tries with a very close battle. One of the most satisfying bosses Ive found so far. Plus as a faith strength build I was happy with the reward.

I somehow beat this guy at level 83, power stancing two straight swords (night&flame and warhawk talon) with bloodhound step. Took like 30 min, I think I got really lucky.
These gargoyle bosses are simultaneously extremely difficult (one mistake = dead) and extremely easy (because I've died so many fucking times to these things that I know every single one of their attacks like the back of my hand)
I just recently encountered this boss the first time, me being a dummy, I thought the boss was just a statue and I had my back turned when I was taking care of an enemy so I didn't know that he was starting to move and when I turned around, this boss was already gunning towards me and it scared the absolute hell out of me, he killed me instantly because I didn't heal all the way. But I didn't get even get mad because he scared me and I couldn't help but laugh out of pure shock
If you're looking to cheese you can turn back go to the bestial Sanctum(the building behind him) through the door and repair behind last pillars in stealth, he'll desist way quicker
@@lanycera definitely a typo, but he's right that it's easier to just run back into the building and get him to walk away. He won't regenerate his HP and you can just sucker punch him from behind, run away into the building, rinse and repeat.
@@ArvelDreth if you have the time and a health regen talisman you can get in a couple shots and run in and heal to full and repeat beat magma worm makar that way (he got stuck on the pillar in the middle)
For any faith builds out there, I was lvl 110 and had flask boost my lighting attacks plus i popped mimic and then had a rune arc on with boosted stats. Talisman (3) flocks canvas, Radagon icon and crimson amber medallion. Lighting bolt hits him for 500/650 each time and you can get those off fast with the above set up. With mimic tanking him he goes down fast. I tried this twice with this approach and worked 2nd attempt.
I’m level 112, has a +10 mimic using a +19 Poison+Rotten Battle Hammer, Kindred of Rot’s Exultation talisman (attack power increases with poison and rot), Claw Talisman (enhanced jump attacks), and my mimic gets crushed when he’s down to 50% health lol. I jumped my ass on my horse and got the hell outta there 🤣. Even with repeated jump attacks and great talismans, me and my mimic could not get this guy to stagger for the life of us lol. Whoever designed this boss at FromSoftware headquarters was having a horrible day and decided to take it out on everyone who purchased the game lol.
I beat him at level 70 with laetna archer ash +3, I put her on a tree to the left when coming out of sanctum Then I equipped my lordsworn great sword with ash glint blade phalanx and every time he was in sword mode, I hit him with the ash and every 3 hits staggers him and I would riposte him, when he switches to axe he’s much easier to dodge and melee attack with, but the main things is that if you can keep distance and get glintblade phalanx on him 3 times he will stagger and you can riposte, all this time laetnna ash is constantly hitting him in head and she may pull Aggro sometimes but this Strat of constant stsggering him every 3 hits will let you get big damage fast
He's totally cheese-able. Can smack him twice from behind, open with a heavy, he'll take a knee every time you break him out of his sentinel stance, swing a normal then run into Sanctum. I would chunk him about 700 hp a go this way using a +10 Knight's Greatsword. I would run and duck behind a second row pillar (ducking after it's destroyed) to avoid his ranged shout, then hide behind the back ranks until he went back to being a lonely sentinel, rinse repeat. Though there are times where you can get close up at the doors and get a combo. It's actually kind of hard for him to hit you up close bring a shield and keep it raised. I had 30 vigor and could take 2 hits before dying, which gave me leeway for a few single errors every now and again. Heavy/Medium armor won't stop you from being two shot, so go light for extra mobility. Takes a lot longer than this video, bring work with you if you do it this way, or read up on the lore while waiting for him to chill out.

@@Felixuwuowo Twin Gargs were vastly easier. They don't "two-shot" 1450 HP even though it's really a 1 shot combo that you can't even quick recover from. Cheese af. Radhan was easier.
@@SD-oj2yr hey man, maybe for you! everyone's build/playthrough/play style is different! gargoyles took me way longer, wasn't until I killed the godskin duo and got +10 mimic.
I spent waaay more time (an embarassing amount for being level 70, really) on this guy than I'd like to admit and by the end of it I had him licked and beat him on a run without using any estus, coincidentally enough. This guy can one-shot you even with a very solid amount of vigor (for the level you're supposed to encounter him at) and has an absolutely stupid health pool. Not a lot of thought went into what his numbers should be AT ALL. That being said, I'd like to share some stuff about the boss not covered in the video: - One thing about this guy that makes him so frustrating is that just like the crucible knight (and some others), he will read your inputs when you try to heal, EVEN IF YOU'RE OUT OF RANGE AND HE'S JUST USED THE THRUST SWORD ATTACK. I tried to heal right after that attack multiple times, only to have him just repeat the attack again immediately as soon as I input flask drink. To heal, you need to wait until he does an attack that has a long recovery time and just deal with not punishing him for one attack. (The jump back + red beam sword blast / the halberd red swing / the aerial plummet halberd attack). The main thing with this fight is if you take damage, BE PATIENT and don't think that you are safe to heal just because you are in between his attack patterns. - The fact that you are fighting him on an incline is another part of what makes this fight frustrating. He has two moves where he flies up in the air: one is easy to dodge/punish (the aerial halberd plummet) the other is a little trickier and can catch you easily (the red flame halberd twirl). Depending on his position and direction in relation to the incline, it can be visually confusing sometimes to tell which of those he is about to go into. So if he has the halberd and he flies in the air, move back about the distance of his effective range with the sword. if he goes into the red twirl, you have given yourself enough space so that you can time your rolls to dodge the three hits, and if he's going into the aerial plummet, roll INTO him so that you can follow up with a punish. - If HE has his back to the incline, it is easier to reach his legs/knees with the effective range of your weapon than if you have your back to the incline (many times my horizontal swings went right over his knees), so if possible try to circle around him so that he's always the first up the hill. -This guy does not have an absolutely massive amount of down time between attacks, so drop weapon artes that have a long windup/animation in favor of something like bloodhound's step (again, this guy loves to move around a lot) so you can cover distance to retaliate quicker. Without it, I found myself in many situations where I was juuuuust out of range of retaliating and swinging one too many times out of frustration only to get punished like a dingus. Also, as an added bonus of bloodhound's step, when he goes into his wild sword flurry attack (fuck that thing) you can just spam bloodhound's step the fuck out of there and then back in at the local maximum of its range to bonk his knees. -One last thing: this guy is NOT one of those bosses with a lot of attacks with time in between the swings of his combo hits to get some poke damage with a quick weapon. His attacks usually either create a massive gap from you, or is right upon you in a quick combo. Because of this, if you have the option it's smarter to drop a light weapon in favor of a heaver weapon and punish with a single jump attack (which you have just enough time for in most cases) -One last, last thing: You want to roll INTO most of his polearm attacks, with two in particular: if you are right under his groin you will avoid his polearm's hitbox entirely. PS: this boss fucking sucks. Don't feel bad about dying here. The cherry on top is that after spending so fucking long on this guy, I get "enemy felled." Not even "Great enemy felled" despite spending 12x more attempts on this guy than any "great enemy" up to this point.
Yeah, this boss humbled the hell out of me. I had took a month long break from Elden ring and just recently decided to do another playthrough. All was fine and well, just breezing through the game comfortably. I'm at level 75 and decided to fuck with this thing and ooh boy he slapped my shit well over 10 times haha
I beat him at lv75 as a mage with 55 int and a +15 ripier. 4 casts of rock sling stance broke him, and followed up with one CARIAN GRANDEUR. This combo took almost 50% of his hp away. Repeated this combo again and gg. CARIAN GRANDEUR just so op.
For this MF being a optional boss, he's got to be one of the hardest ones, I'm level 132 and I'm still getting my ass whooped even with 67 vigor, so I should be tanking like half those hits no problem. Hell I was doing more damage to freaking moug with dual plus 5 daggers
The problem is the slope you have to fight him on. You can maybe kite him down the hill, but you'll need to clear out all the vulgar militia enemies to be safe.
What I like to do is use the stone barb cracked tear in the wondeous physick which makes stance breaks easier. I do jump attacks to stagger him for critical attacks or enough time to use a heal
I got down to half health bar with mimic’s help. Then cheesed him by hitting from behind with transient moonlight +9, call torrent, run away, he goes back to stance, hit from behind rinse and repeat. The moonlight katana takes a healthy chunk of his HP with about 35-35 dex-int.
I keep coming back here johnny lol when you say it's not that hard at the end gets me every time. I swear this guy is right behind malenia, and that damn maliketh in difficulty. I'm like level 60 somthin still and I refuse to move on. The only time I'm getting one shotted is that damn red axe wave move.
I finally beat him after 1 hour. I beat him with bloodhounds finese+9 and bloodflame. I ran on torrent and just stuck around close to him to his crotch area. When he does the sword long range red flame move, just move behind farther and the range doesnt get you. After that I got him to 30% hp and I just went back and hid in beastial santum, healed up, reactivated the bloodflame incantation and just did a heavy move on him and killed him.
FUN TRICK to take out BOTH Black Blade Kindred & sleeping clergy boss at the same time! Step 1: Use a ranged weapon like a bow & arrow from BEHIND the sleeping clergy boss. You’re going to have to aim above his wings because of the distance. Fire at Black Blade Kindred. As soon as he fires his magic ball towards you, DODGE ROLL to either the left or right so it hits the sleeping clergy boss. In my try it damaged him for about 355 hp per hit. Sometimes I was able to go behind the clergy boss and wait for BBK to fire again but most times I just waited for BBK to reset on the stairs outside. Repeat this process until the inside boss is dead. You get the Beast Eye & Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. *Note that you want to use a weak ranged weapon to ensure you don’t kill BBK before the clergy boss. Step 2: Once inside boss is dead, use the same approach as before but try something stronger like ranged magic. In my try I used Sword of Night & Flame +5. I would go outside and down just the first few stairs, lock on to BBK & fire my L2+R1 magic attack from my sword. Immediately call my horse, run back inside & hide where you did earlier behind the sleeping clergy boss. Wait for BBK to reset. Repeat. You’re welcome! :)
The hardest part of this battle for me was the location, since i tried to keep him close to the building so i could get back my runes easily if died. He clips through everything 😤
Finally beat this guy. Turns out the katana with blood slash does major damage. Beat him and the other one at the lift within 10 minutes. Helps to have the three dog spirits
It's a rocky fellow so automatically you choose a strike weapon. I upgraded the ancestral hammer a few times. The damage seems meager but there are a lot of opportunity charge attacks when you dodge certain attacks. This thing killed me so much but i have beaten it at level 32
I had to use Ancestral Follower to help me distract him. He would make him go to him by hitting him with an arrow allowing me to land some extra heavy charged attacks on Torrent.
I'm confused about something. I'm looking for the gargoyle's blackblade _twinblades_ not the blackblade greatsword you get from beating this boss. From what I can tell by looking around, I think there are two black blades kindred bosses. This is the first one, but I need to know where the second one is located because I think he gives up the twinblades.
This boss was Margit all over for me. I killed Margit when I had leveled up maybe 6 times; the fight took over 15 minutes. Now I ran into this thing at level 30 and again it is taking practically no damage. I must say I wish they had adjusted the damage scaling at least a little bit somehow. It's not harder, it's just extremely tedious this way.

The game wants you to realise that some enemies are too strong and that you should come back to them later. That leaves you with a challenge you must overcome and a goal to get stronger towards. Adjusting enemies takes away this feeling of progression as well as feeling how much stronger the enemies are getting as you get to different areas.
@@flashwithsymbols2779 Except with Souls games, there's not really any damage mitigation, just getting more HP. Unless you stack entirely into tankiness, and even then this guy probably kills you in 3-4 hits anyway. It's a problem I've got with the series after DS1. They removed defense as a viable option when they removed upgrading armor.
@@Nekufan1000000 Yeah they didn't like the "put on havels, clear game" strat I guess but tanking another hit is definitely a massive advantage. But stats are never where you really get stronger on souls games, it's through upgrading your equipment. You go past him, upgrade your weapon - get way more damage and then beat him.

I'm level 48 thinking I'm pretty strong Then I get to this place and this whole area kicked my ass, couldn't put a dent in anything let alone this guy. I charged up and R2 and didn't even see his health bar move, I immediately teleported the hell out of there lol 😂😂
If youre a sorcerer you can cheese it with pebble. Start the fight buffed up. Protection globe from physique. Summon a ranged summon if u dont have a high powered 1. Start the fight with x5 pebble hits run back into the church. Lock on him and fight in from the door way. Back right into the church so your summon is in with you. Then just keep spamming pebble. I must add i do who 6 health flasks and 6 fp flasks and when i killed him it was just enough 😅. I did it with vigor 33 and intel at 70. Im level 150. And was even hard for me so i cheesed it haha
Bloody slash made the fight kind of easier for me. Just be patient, dodge his attack and follow up with a bloody slash. Rinse and repeat the same thing. For some reason bloody slash deals a good amount of damage to gargoyle type enemies. Using +17 Nagakiba, 38 vigor, 45 dex and 40 arcane
just defeated him now while watching this with nagikibi two handed pearcing fang flame art i broke his posture 3 time with tailesman charge attack and guard counter buff
I used bloodhound fang +8 and mimic tear... I only managed to get him to a quarter of his health after using all but 2 of my flasks... I thought I was done for... so I hid at the bestial sanctum, waited for him to de aggro and then heavy attacked him when his back was turned... it took like 30 tries but I did it... why was this harder than fire giant?
I managed to beat him easily enough (easy is a relative term here...) with the Rock Sling sorcery and a meteorite staff. The first time I had tried using magic, actually. About four shots will stun him and give you a chance at a critical hit, but I found it better to just keep distance, pelt him with one more shot and refill my FP. Then just bait him, dodge, get another shot off and repeat. The only tricky part is having enough Cerulean Flask charges, I think I might have used seven at only 100 max FP.
easiest strategy - use sword of night and flame try upgrade, use the magic attack on him when from behind, run back inside, wait and then he will reset his stance, keep repeating it's slow but you won't worry about getting hurt
I just defeat this monster at level 95 after few days dying over and over again. I felt the happiness wash over myself and go challenge the goblin recklessly. I thought ah these little runt won't killed me i just beat the kindred and I'm still at my peak form. Then one of the goblin jump to my back and insta kill me.

So much this. I have a bad habit of dodging just a fraction of a second to early in all Souls games. But ER took that mechanic to 11. It's crazy how many bosses and even normal enemies have delayed attacks and overall weird attack timings. I just beat Godefroy at the Golden Lineage Evergaol a few minutes ago and I was able to dodge through most of his attacks fine. But the ones that kept hitting me over and over were the couple ones where he wind ups, and then holds it for an eternity before swinging. You'd think that be a good thing because you have more time to react. But it does not work that way.

I've skipped a lot of stuff, and i managed to get to him at 71 (and also took him down) what in gods name have you been doing in this game to reach him at 28? did you just follow the main road from start to getting to him without even going to the sides or in a crypt or something :P?

@@pederbergenwall Level 71 with 22 strength and agility, 40 vigor, great mace +11, managed to do him after 1,5h of wiping (a little over 20 deaths) last try when i got him down, i also had like 6 crimson flasks left, very very very difficult boss, but very doable - Full melee, 0 magic, miracles, summons or spirits.
Recommendations: First off, he is a gargoyle, aka made of stone, aka takes much more dmg from striking, so if you have a mace/hammer/club, use that, my main weapon Bloodhound fang, but i also level a mace at the same time because of RPG elements in souls series, you smash gargoyles and skeletons and golems easier.
And lastly, the best thing that you can do to help...charging and jump attacks, dunno how many jumping it takes to stagger, but for charging, it's 3 fully charged attacks in a decent time window, and he staggers, always at the 3rd, i staggered him 4 times during the fight, the last stagger was at like 2% so i managed to kill the fooker with a critical hit..was epic.
You can do a guaranteed charging without him hitting back, in sword stance after he does that frenzy 5 hit combo, when he ends it, you have time to fully charge and dodge his next attack.
You can do a guaranteed charging without him hitting back, in halberd stance, after he does his flying in the air and dash towards you attack (not the one with red tornado) you have time to fully charge.
Try to do jumping attacks in between when you can...i hope this helps, let me know if guys managed to down him while using this info :)

I hung mainly around his crotch area as a good 60% of his attacks overshot where I was standing. I used all my crimson tear flasks and barely escaped with the win, only to get popped by one of the small enemies below, thus killing me in the process

Hugging the crotch and in some cases booty works well for a lot of larger ebemies. Enemies that are slightly larger like these hugging the crotch and enemies that are way more larger than you hugging the booty and straffing continuously. What remains constant is your patience and reading the timing of enemies move set. The only enemy that punished me so hard for wrong dodges was nameless king. But nowadays I stand right up his face.
At the beginning of the fight: this boss is very difficult - when the boss is beaten: not too hard of a fight.. Dark Souls vibes.

On my first try i got him down to about 5% hp before dieing. Thought he would be easy after that, boy how wrong i was. After that it took me 1,5 hours of constantly getting my ass beat to finally kill him. What a relief. I feel like sometimes your first try on a boss goes a lot better than when you start to learn his moveset. Might be a psychological effect idk

I have trouble with his triple red ring of death though, usually always die when he pulls that out, his sword attacks I can pretty easily defend and dodge

I cannot reliably dodge his halbert rush, even after hours of fighting him. I feel like the game is legit fucked on that attack. Sometimes dodging to the side works, sometimes dodging straight through it works, but it feels entirely random. It's the one move that still kills me every attempt. I'm on my third play through of the game and still stuck on this fuckbucket for like 2 hours *just because of that one move*. It seems to make a big difference whether he's coming up or down or across the slope, but aside from that I can identify no consistent way to dodge through it. It's noteworthy that in this video he mostly just shields through it.

I came back at level 120 and it was still insanely hard. He has so much fucking health. I find it's easiest to just forego dodging and wield a greatshield and poke.
I finally got him last night. I used bloodhounds fang+9 and draconic shield. He was the hardest I faced yet.

I thought this guy was some sort of guardian for the sanctum. He was intimidating but when I got here at low level I went up to the guy and walked all around him to check him out. Not once did he move. I teleported back and forth several times for various reasons and then like the 3 or 4th time I been back to this Grace, he had turned hostile and immediately attacked me.
For so long he was kind. But then I don’t know what I did. He attacked me and I figured out he was a boss. Because the boss health bar doesn’t show up until he engages you. So I had no idea honestly lol

If your struggling, as soon as you rest at the grace, come out get behind the creature, while on the horse use rock sling or another magic projectile, hit him once or twice, run to the left behind the building wait until he settles back into his position rinse and repeat until he is dead. Its slow but effective . make sure you have plenty of fp flask

He also takes poison damage you can poison cloud him or poison arrow him and run behind the building till he resets. But, it's a lot easier to just make your first hit a stagger then chain stagger him. If he breaks the chain the run behind the building till he goes back to guard position then come back and chain stagger him again it's so much easier to chain stager him for cheese win.
And they don't even say Great enemy felled after all the toil...

I summoned Latenna the Albinauric on that fallen tree. Used the talisman that draws his agro, never attacked, and she fully killed this dude.
For those struggling with this fight, you can use Latenna the spirt summon down the road. She outrange his attacks and will kill it by herself as long as you stand somewhere in the middle. I put on regen shield, regen talisman in case he hit me with his one ranged ability. I then went and made coffee and when I got back dragon was dead. The more you upgrade the spirit the faster the kill ofc. Mine was +4. edit: The idea is that any non-arena restricted enemy has a range where it will stop following you. From this range you have to add the range of his ranged abilities. Outside of that you are safe from hits. Latenna is ideal for this concept as her range will probably always be longer than the range of the enemies. She just needs line of sight, a safe spot from other random enemies and that's it. I recommend using a bow to speed the kills up and to have the enemies constantly being at their max aggro range.

@@levicrews3713 You are not safe in the church. He can fuck you up with long range in there and Latenna will struggle hitting anything, as the doors will blcok most shots. I put her in a straight line down the road from where he stands. I had to do some trial and error for where she could stand and hit somewhat reliably while still being safe. If you run down the road you will see the summon spirit sign disappear. From that point I went up like 1/4 or 1/5 of the distance to the gargoyle. You need to stand quite a bit closer than Latenna though so the gargoyle will keep going up and down.

@@Chronux If you go down the road there is this golden tree right. Place Latenna a little further down than that. You have to be on the boss' side of the golden tree or the boss will just deaggro and Latenna can't reach him. You can shoot arrows and the boss will constantly try to move back and fourth. If you place Latenna too close so she always can hit him he will most likely kill her.
Great video. I haven't invested in magic, so your video opened my eyes to running out on Torrent to attack and then running back into the building. Was a slow go, but worked!
For big sword peoples his one combo sword you can land one jump heavy. Same with his two hit. Just pay attention if he’s still holding the sword out. For the third hit combo the stab you can jump attack over it. His axes you can roll towards him even his double swing. For the really slow one wait till u see the side of the axe to dodge it’s a weird timing. his sword flurry of attacks has a two slash pause two slash combo so it’s enough to dodge pause and dodge again. Spamming dodge usually gets caught. But if your second dodge goes behind him his last hit will not hit you. Seeing the differences between his axe swings is hard but if you see him bring it over his shoulders he’s going for that three hit combo. I hope this helps just small beta! i believe people can beat him with no damage!
Faced this guy early on, foolishly believed that it must have been an early game boss cause i used the portal. Would shoot, hide behind pillar near the beast, wait to loose agro and repeat.
Somehow managed to cheese the guy with upgraded bow, TONS of different arrows, Great arrows and basically ending with rock sling at the end.
This guy made me freaking scared/run away from every other similar enemies cause I kept thinking they were stronger!
This boss is ridiculous.
It's not rot or bloodflame it's a weak version of Destined Death used by Maliketh the Black Blade hence the names of the two Black Blade Kindreds. It also weirdly counts as holy damage so resistance to that should help 😊 wonderful video!
Finally beat this thing at level 115 with a +9 mimic tear
This guy was infuriating me. First time I ran into him I was a super low level so I ran away. Then I did try to fight him later on. He one shotted me. Tried to fight him again before I finished the game and still was having a hard time. I beat the damn game and he was mopping the floor with me. I finally got him.
I’m on my second playthrough and doing a no summon run and beat him level 60 with dragon halberd, took 6 tries but ate a pickle as soon as he dies and boom 100k+ runes
I used the two defensive opal one tears and spear, axe, and turtle talisman
He is still one of the harder bosses, especially if you’re using a halberd,but the main thing is when he has axe his moves are easier to counter, when he has sword be more careful
Beat him today at lvl 57 with a strength build, believe in the bonk. That 88000 runes is pretty rewarding after all the oneshots hahaha.
Weapon level really makes a difference for these fights, I fought him for half a day to no avail with my +5 weapon at lvl 71. As soon as I found the stones to get it to +8 it only took me a few tries with a very close battle. One of the most satisfying bosses Ive found so far. Plus as a faith strength build I was happy with the reward.

I somehow beat this guy at level 83, power stancing two straight swords (night&flame and warhawk talon) with bloodhound step. Took like 30 min, I think I got really lucky.
Just killed him after 2 and a half hours. Im level 78 with +6 colossal sword, learned his moves and only attacked when he had the axe out
These gargoyle bosses are simultaneously extremely difficult (one mistake = dead) and extremely easy (because I've died so many fucking times to these things that I know every single one of their attacks like the back of my hand)
I just recently encountered this boss the first time, me being a dummy, I thought the boss was just a statue and I had my back turned when I was taking care of an enemy so I didn't know that he was starting to move and when I turned around, this boss was already gunning towards me and it scared the absolute hell out of me, he killed me instantly because I didn't heal all the way. But I didn't get even get mad because he scared me and I couldn't help but laugh out of pure shock
If you're looking to cheese you can turn back go to the bestial Sanctum(the building behind him) through the door and repair behind last pillars in stealth, he'll desist way quicker

@@lanycera definitely a typo, but he's right that it's easier to just run back into the building and get him to walk away. He won't regenerate his HP and you can just sucker punch him from behind, run away into the building, rinse and repeat.

For any faith builds out there, I was lvl 110 and had flask boost my lighting attacks plus i popped mimic and then had a rune arc on with boosted stats.
Talisman (3) flocks canvas, Radagon icon and crimson amber medallion.
Lighting bolt hits him for 500/650 each time and you can get those off fast with the above set up. With mimic tanking him he goes down fast.
I tried this twice with this approach and worked 2nd attempt.
I’m level 112, has a +10 mimic using a +19 Poison+Rotten Battle Hammer, Kindred of Rot’s Exultation talisman (attack power increases with poison and rot), Claw Talisman (enhanced jump attacks), and my mimic gets crushed when he’s down to 50% health lol. I jumped my ass on my horse and got the hell outta there 🤣. Even with repeated jump attacks and great talismans, me and my mimic could not get this guy to stagger for the life of us lol. Whoever designed this boss at FromSoftware headquarters was having a horrible day and decided to take it out on everyone who purchased the game lol.
I beat him at level 70 with laetna archer ash +3, I put her on a tree to the left when coming out of sanctum
Then I equipped my lordsworn great sword with ash glint blade phalanx and every time he was in sword mode, I hit him with the ash and every 3 hits staggers him and I would riposte him, when he switches to axe he’s much easier to dodge and melee attack with, but the main things is that if you can keep distance and get glintblade phalanx on him 3 times he will stagger and you can riposte, all this time laetnna ash is constantly hitting him in head and she may pull Aggro sometimes but this Strat of constant stsggering him every 3 hits will let you get big damage fast

He's totally cheese-able. Can smack him twice from behind, open with a heavy, he'll take a knee every time you break him out of his sentinel stance, swing a normal then run into Sanctum. I would chunk him about 700 hp a go this way using a +10 Knight's Greatsword. I would run and duck behind a second row pillar (ducking after it's destroyed) to avoid his ranged shout, then hide behind the back ranks until he went back to being a lonely sentinel, rinse repeat. Though there are times where you can get close up at the doors and get a combo. It's actually kind of hard for him to hit you up close bring a shield and keep it raised. I had 30 vigor and could take 2 hits before dying, which gave me leeway for a few single errors every now and again. Heavy/Medium armor won't stop you from being two shot, so go light for extra mobility. Takes a lot longer than this video, bring work with you if you do it this way, or read up on the lore while waiting for him to chill out.

@@Felixuwuowo Twin Gargs were vastly easier. They don't "two-shot" 1450 HP even though it's really a 1 shot combo that you can't even quick recover from. Cheese af. Radhan was easier.
@@SD-oj2yr hey man, maybe for you! everyone's build/playthrough/play style is different! gargoyles took me way longer, wasn't until I killed the godskin duo and got +10 mimic.
I spent waaay more time (an embarassing amount for being level 70, really) on this guy than I'd like to admit and by the end of it I had him licked and beat him on a run without using any estus, coincidentally enough. This guy can one-shot you even with a very solid amount of vigor (for the level you're supposed to encounter him at) and has an absolutely stupid health pool. Not a lot of thought went into what his numbers should be AT ALL. That being said, I'd like to share some stuff about the boss not covered in the video:
- One thing about this guy that makes him so frustrating is that just like the crucible knight (and some others), he will read your inputs when you try to heal, EVEN IF YOU'RE OUT OF RANGE AND HE'S JUST USED THE THRUST SWORD ATTACK. I tried to heal right after that attack multiple times, only to have him just repeat the attack again immediately as soon as I input flask drink. To heal, you need to wait until he does an attack that has a long recovery time and just deal with not punishing him for one attack. (The jump back + red beam sword blast / the halberd red swing / the aerial plummet halberd attack). The main thing with this fight is if you take damage, BE PATIENT and don't think that you are safe to heal just because you are in between his attack patterns.
- The fact that you are fighting him on an incline is another part of what makes this fight frustrating. He has two moves where he flies up in the air: one is easy to dodge/punish (the aerial halberd plummet) the other is a little trickier and can catch you easily (the red flame halberd twirl). Depending on his position and direction in relation to the incline, it can be visually confusing sometimes to tell which of those he is about to go into. So if he has the halberd and he flies in the air, move back about the distance of his effective range with the sword. if he goes into the red twirl, you have given yourself enough space so that you can time your rolls to dodge the three hits, and if he's going into the aerial plummet, roll INTO him so that you can follow up with a punish.
- If HE has his back to the incline, it is easier to reach his legs/knees with the effective range of your weapon than if you have your back to the incline (many times my horizontal swings went right over his knees), so if possible try to circle around him so that he's always the first up the hill.
-This guy does not have an absolutely massive amount of down time between attacks, so drop weapon artes that have a long windup/animation in favor of something like bloodhound's step (again, this guy loves to move around a lot) so you can cover distance to retaliate quicker. Without it, I found myself in many situations where I was juuuuust out of range of retaliating and swinging one too many times out of frustration only to get punished like a dingus. Also, as an added bonus of bloodhound's step, when he goes into his wild sword flurry attack (fuck that thing) you can just spam bloodhound's step the fuck out of there and then back in at the local maximum of its range to bonk his knees.
-One last thing: this guy is NOT one of those bosses with a lot of attacks with time in between the swings of his combo hits to get some poke damage with a quick weapon. His attacks usually either create a massive gap from you, or is right upon you in a quick combo. Because of this, if you have the option it's smarter to drop a light weapon in favor of a heaver weapon and punish with a single jump attack (which you have just enough time for in most cases)
-One last, last thing: You want to roll INTO most of his polearm attacks, with two in particular: if you are right under his groin you will avoid his polearm's hitbox entirely.
PS: this boss fucking sucks. Don't feel bad about dying here. The cherry on top is that after spending so fucking long on this guy, I get "enemy felled." Not even "Great enemy felled" despite spending 12x more attempts on this guy than any "great enemy" up to this point.
Yeah, this boss humbled the hell out of me. I had took a month long break from Elden ring and just recently decided to do another playthrough. All was fine and well, just breezing through the game comfortably. I'm at level 75 and decided to fuck with this thing and ooh boy he slapped my shit well over 10 times haha

I beat him at lv75 as a mage with 55 int and a +15 ripier. 4 casts of rock sling stance broke him, and followed up with one CARIAN GRANDEUR. This combo took almost 50% of his hp away. Repeated this combo again and gg. CARIAN GRANDEUR just so op.
For this MF being a optional boss, he's got to be one of the hardest ones, I'm level 132 and I'm still getting my ass whooped even with 67 vigor, so I should be tanking like half those hits no problem. Hell I was doing more damage to freaking moug with dual plus 5 daggers
This guy should be a main boss my god it has ruined me so many times 💀I have left it for so long might go back
The problem is the slope you have to fight him on. You can maybe kite him down the hill, but you'll need to clear out all the vulgar militia enemies to be safe.
What I like to do is use the stone barb cracked tear in the wondeous physick which makes stance breaks easier. I do jump attacks to stagger him for critical attacks or enough time to use a heal
I got down to half health bar with mimic’s help. Then cheesed him by hitting from behind with transient moonlight +9, call torrent, run away, he goes back to stance, hit from behind rinse and repeat. The moonlight katana takes a healthy chunk of his HP with about 35-35 dex-int.
I keep coming back here johnny lol when you say it's not that hard at the end gets me every time. I swear this guy is right behind malenia, and that damn maliketh in difficulty. I'm like level 60 somthin still and I refuse to move on. The only time I'm getting one shotted is that damn red axe wave move.
Took me 1 hour to defeat this, plus the occasional fps drop because I'm playing on a ps4 pro
I finally beat him after 1 hour. I beat him with bloodhounds finese+9 and bloodflame. I ran on torrent and just stuck around close to him to his crotch area. When he does the sword long range red flame move, just move behind farther and the range doesnt get you. After that I got him to 30% hp and I just went back and hid in beastial santum, healed up, reactivated the bloodflame incantation and just did a heavy move on him and killed him.
FUN TRICK to take out BOTH Black Blade Kindred & sleeping clergy boss at the same time!
Step 1: Use a ranged weapon like a bow & arrow from BEHIND the sleeping clergy boss. You’re going to have to aim above his wings because of the distance. Fire at Black Blade Kindred. As soon as he fires his magic ball towards you, DODGE ROLL to either the left or right so it hits the sleeping clergy boss. In my try it damaged him for about 355 hp per hit. Sometimes I was able to go behind the clergy boss and wait for BBK to fire again but most times I just waited for BBK to reset on the stairs outside. Repeat this process until the inside boss is dead. You get the Beast Eye & Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. *Note that you want to use a weak ranged weapon to ensure you don’t kill BBK before the clergy boss.
Step 2: Once inside boss is dead, use the same approach as before but try something stronger like ranged magic. In my try I used Sword of Night & Flame +5. I would go outside and down just the first few stairs, lock on to BBK & fire my L2+R1 magic attack from my sword. Immediately call my horse, run back inside & hide where you did earlier behind the sleeping clergy boss. Wait for BBK to reset. Repeat.

The hardest part of this battle for me was the location, since i tried to keep him close to the building so i could get back my runes easily if died. He clips through everything 😤
The fact that i attacked him at level 20 now everytime i go there just seeing this guy gives me ptsd hes just so intimidating for no reason
Finally beat this guy. Turns out the katana with blood slash does major damage. Beat him and the other one at the lift within 10 minutes. Helps to have the three dog spirits
Beat him level 68 with lordsworns greatsword +13 no summons , was really hard and took me about 6 tries 💀
It's a rocky fellow so automatically you choose a strike weapon. I upgraded the ancestral hammer a few times.
The damage seems meager but there are a lot of opportunity charge attacks when you dodge certain attacks.
This thing killed me so much but i have beaten it at level 32
I had to use Ancestral Follower to help me distract him. He would make him go to him by hitting him with an arrow allowing me to land some extra heavy charged attacks on Torrent.
I'm confused about something. I'm looking for the gargoyle's blackblade _twinblades_ not the blackblade greatsword you get from beating this boss. From what I can tell by looking around, I think there are two black blades kindred bosses. This is the first one, but I need to know where the second one is located because I think he gives up the twinblades.

This boss was Margit all over for me. I killed Margit when I had leveled up maybe 6 times; the fight took over 15 minutes. Now I ran into this thing at level 30 and again it is taking practically no damage.
I must say I wish they had adjusted the damage scaling at least a little bit somehow. It's not harder, it's just extremely tedious this way.

Level 71 with 22 strength and agility, 40 vigor, great mace +11, managed to do him after 1,5h of wiping (a little over 20 deaths) last try when i got him down, i also had like 6 crimson flasks left, very very very difficult boss, but very doable.
Recommendations: First off, he is a gargoyle, aka made of stone, aka takes much more dmg from striking, so if you have a mace/hammer/club, use that, my main weapon Bloodhound fang, but i also level a mace at the same time because of RPG elements in souls series, you smash gargoyles and skeletons and golems easier.
And lastly, the best thing that you can do to help...charging and jump attacks, dunno how many jumping it takes to stagger, but for charging, it's 3 fully charged attacks in a decent time window, and he staggers, always at the 3rd, i staggered him 4 times during the fight, the last stagger was at like 2% so i managed to kill the fooker with a critical hit..was epic.
You can do a guaranteed charging without him hitting back, in sword stance after he does that frenzy 5 hit combo, when he ends it, you have time to fully charge and dodge his next attack.
You can do a guaranteed charging without him hitting back, in halberd stance, after he does his flying in the air and dash towards you attack (not the one with red tornado) you have time to fully charge.
Try to do jumping attacks in between when you can...i hope this helps, let me know if guys managed to down him while using this info :)
P.S. What in gods name have you guys been doing (and others i see in this comment section) to manage to get to him at level 28-40? are you guys doing like literally 0 side content of any kind???? i skipped a good chunck of stuff and i got to him at 71...like wtf are you guys doing at 30-40 there?
The game wants you to realise that some enemies are too strong and that you should come back to them later. That leaves you with a challenge you must overcome and a goal to get stronger towards. Adjusting enemies takes away this feeling of progression as well as feeling how much stronger the enemies are getting as you get to different areas.
@@flashwithsymbols2779 Except with Souls games, there's not really any damage mitigation, just getting more HP. Unless you stack entirely into tankiness, and even then this guy probably kills you in 3-4 hits anyway. It's a problem I've got with the series after DS1. They removed defense as a viable option when they removed upgrading armor.
@@Nekufan1000000 Yeah they didn't like the "put on havels, clear game" strat I guess but tanking another hit is definitely a massive advantage.
But stats are never where you really get stronger on souls games, it's through upgrading your equipment. You go past him, upgrade your weapon - get way more damage and then beat him.

If youre a sorcerer you can cheese it with pebble. Start the fight buffed up. Protection globe from physique. Summon a ranged summon if u dont have a high powered 1. Start the fight with x5 pebble hits run back into the church. Lock on him and fight in from the door way. Back right into the church so your summon is in with you. Then just keep spamming pebble. I must add i do who 6 health flasks and 6 fp flasks and when i killed him it was just enough 😅. I did it with vigor 33 and intel at 70. Im level 150. And was even hard for me so i cheesed it haha

Bloody slash made the fight kind of easier for me. Just be patient, dodge his attack and follow up with a bloody slash. Rinse and repeat the same thing. For some reason bloody slash deals a good amount of damage to gargoyle type enemies. Using +17 Nagakiba, 38 vigor, 45 dex and 40 arcane
Big target thus very vulnerable to boss-killing _Spiral Shard!_ If one's willing to complete sorceress Sellen's questline.
just defeated him now while watching this with nagikibi two handed pearcing fang flame art i broke his posture 3 time with tailesman charge attack and guard counter buff
I used bloodhound fang +8 and mimic tear... I only managed to get him to a quarter of his health after using all but 2 of my flasks... I thought I was done for... so I hid at the bestial sanctum, waited for him to de aggro and then heavy attacked him when his back was turned... it took like 30 tries but I did it... why was this harder than fire giant?
Bloodhound Step is very effective in this fight. It's found pretty close too.
If you are a god sorcerer their is a glitch where u can attack him n go into the back room n wait till he reset and keep attacking
I managed to beat him easily enough (easy is a relative term here...) with the Rock Sling sorcery and a meteorite staff. The first time I had tried using magic, actually. About four shots will stun him and give you a chance at a critical hit, but I found it better to just keep distance, pelt him with one more shot and refill my FP. Then just bait him, dodge, get another shot off and repeat.
The only tricky part is having enough Cerulean Flask charges, I think I might have used seven at only 100 max FP.
I really enjoyed this fight, beat it at level 70, his moveset is pretty nasty
easiest strategy - use sword of night and flame try upgrade, use the magic attack on him when from behind, run back inside, wait and then he will reset his stance, keep repeating it's slow but you won't worry about getting hurt
I just defeat this monster at level 95 after few days dying over and over again. I felt the happiness wash over myself and go challenge the goblin recklessly. I thought ah these little runt won't killed me i just beat the kindred and I'm still at my peak form. Then one of the goblin jump to my back and insta kill me.

I can't seem to be able to dodge the sword combo. It hits for like 12 times in a row very fast and 1 or 2 hits always.

yes there is a teleporter behind the Third Church of Marika in East Limgrave that will take you behind the black blade kindred, then you can talk to gurranq the beast clergyman
The secret is black flame blade, a quick weapon, and spacing to bait out his punishable attacks. Is what I would say if I didn't die to him fifty times while doing this

That's the design philosophy of Elden Ring, difficulty for the sake of difficulty. Everything after Morgott kills you in either one shot or 2.
