The BEST jazz combo that has been put together over the last century. Diana Krall, Jeff Hamilton, John Clayton, Anthony Wilson! It jsut doesn't get any better then this folks.
Diana Krall - Piano and Vocals, Anthony Wilson - Guitar, John Clayton - Bass, Jeff Hamilton - Drums. What you are listening to is in my opinion the best jazz combo put together in the last 40 years.
funny how refreshing these old songs become in the hands of the very capable Diana Krall. What a breath of artistic fresh air in a somewhat stale world of contrived pop. She is wonderful.
Diana Krall--if you watch her enough you can get through the sexy looks to the true talent she is. A PBS interview with her shows she is unassuming, self-assured, and down right earthy. Krall is a welcome relief from all these manufactured pop divas that use machines to remove any art from the music idiom. And unlike most of the artificial pop stars, her sexiness just comes though in a subtle manner without her having to show and T & A. Good for Diana. I'll have to get this DVD!
All I can say is, I wish I'd known about this talented artist long ago. Diana puts all the pop princesses to shame with her genuine talent, plus she's just so damn attractive!
I have both audio and DVD, and you are correct, most of the tracks are different. It's a great thing about jazz, same song, same theater, but in two different nights versions and solos may change entirely.
@FlyingGuySFO : in the DVD, she talks about being in high school and listening to Clayton/Hamilton recordings .. 20 years later, they are in her band .. dang ..
1st time I heard Diana Krall was in a college Music Appreciation class (shout out to LSU!).... I went right out and purchased this CD and have been a fan ever since.... Plan on having her sing me down the aisle for my wedding... if I can touch base with her booking agent... I'm soooooo serious... if anyone know how PLEASE tell me! :)
It's both a blessing and a tragedy that jazz has become a marginalized music form. The tragedy is in the fact that the jazz world has many many great guitarists - as well as other instrumentalists - who nobody has heard of outside of the regulars at the clubs they play at. The blessing is that, since there's no big money in playing jazz except for a very few, those who play it do so out of shear love.
what would i give to have seen that live. diana and the band were amazing.. great solo spots from everyone. and the look she gives at 5:03 is just pure sex.
