Thank Heavens for people who saved all their paper, cards, notes, receipts, etc.! I especially loved the Joan of Arc French penmanship book-💖 I love that the business card was for hosiery, underwear and gloves. As for me, I have always been a fan of "honeycomb technology"! 😊💕
Aha!!!! You have discovered how wonderful Victoria Magazine is!!!! When the magazine first came out I just fell in love with it. Then it went out of business for a while until Phyllis Hoffman bought it and restarted it. as VICTORIA BLISS. Hoffman publishes TEA TIME and SOUTHERN LADY and some others. ALL are QUALITY magazines that I just love!!! This was fun!!!!👵💖🦋
When I worked at the Sally the policy there was to throw away all letters and old photos so my coworkers would save them for me. I have a two year courtship made up of letters ticket stubs and other ephemera. The couple didn’t live that far from each other but probably didn’t have cars as they were young. They must have ended up marrying as I have both his and her letters. It’s all very sweet. ❤️🇨🇦
I happily came across your channel this morning. I used to subscribe to Victoria magazine and would look forward each month to browsing through the beautiful pictures and interesting articles. I wish I had kept them all. I collect some of the items you show, so I will be watching and looking forward to your videos. My fondest “find” is a hefty collection of valentines, greeting cards, newspaper articles and photos from a couple named Harry and Helen (my husband’s name was Harry and mine is Helen). They had a daughter named Kathleen, which is my daughter’s name! Love looking through their happy times together; they appeared to be a loving couple and family. They also have a son named Harry, but we named our son Jeffrey. These are particularly precious to me now that my husband of 53 years has passed away. Thought you might enjoy this little story.
@@TarnishedTreasures1 Thank you for your kind words. I am fortunate to have 2 wonderful kids and 2 very special grandkids, close-by sisters and brother, and very good friends who help me deal with this loss and change in my life. And TH-cam videos such as yours help keep the gloom away too.It has not been easy, but things are starting to look brighter as I accept my new way of life.
Fabulous! I have grown to love ephemera of all kinds. I have an autograph book from my great great grandmother that was used for her last year of school (1890's I believe) but the ink on some pages is disappearing. The poems, well wishes and congratulations on the pages are just so beautiful. Some even have the stickers still on them that were placed next to the signature of the writer. I shudder to think what will become of it when I'm gone. Guess it won't matter to me. Sigh...
I love old valentines and cards. I need to check out that Victorian magazine. My dad recently passed and I found a really cool document from the 1880s. I couldn't believe how well it was preserved. My dad was much like us, collectors of cool old things.
So nice to see the French connection in your video of your collection. I do so hope that I can again this year have the opportunity to go to Bric a brac and perhaps come upon some more treasures. It seems far off at the moment as the weather is atrocious, we have not had a winter like this for years ! Also we have a delay in the vaccination programme, I have friends who have had their appointments cancelled. So it looks like it will not be the end of February after all, we await developments 🤔 Such a joy to see your collections it brightens my day 😎🇫🇷❤️
I have just discovered your! LOVE ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS! Thank you. You were talking about Ephemera from yesteryear not lasting. I agree so I display and frame and use all I can. I figure enjoy it and look at it while I can. I frame Everything lol.. I have framed Sheet Music, Valentines, Holiday items.. I pull them out at different seasons. SO MUCH FUN!
I'm always so happy to receive a notification when you have posted a new video! My grandmother saves her calendars. There must be 50 lbs of old calendars under her bed!
@@TarnishedTreasures1 I believe that's her motive. She has beautiful penmanship and enjoys writing. What happened on May 4th, 1997? Let me check my calendar, under the bed. Lunch with friends, playing cards at the club, Dr's appointments and as mundane as the hvac/generator annual service, she knows and has backup in pen and ink. She is 91 and still remarkable!
My mom saved everything, and when she passed away in 2002 we had an estate sale...if only I knew then what I know now...not that she had any Victorian pieces, but she had lots from the early 1900’s. Old postcards can be an adventure, I have one that is a picture of my grandfather who was a blacksmith and it was an advertisement for his shop. My husband grew up in a house that was a stagecoach stop and later a hotel and store, my daughter’s did some research and actually found an old postcard on eBay of the place in the early 1900’s, so interesting.
I used to snub my nose at ephemera (this was 30 years ago when I should have been filling every shopping bag I own full of the stuff) but my first piece of vintage Christmas wrapping paper in the early 90's immediately changed all that! 😂😂😂
Think about how our tastes have changed over the years. Think about all the stuff that we collect now that we looked by before. I can’t even think about that!! Lol
I love anything to do with paper, cards and books, no matter how old. I’ve recently got into junk journaling which made my addiction even worse. 😂 I have some postcards that my uncle sent to my grandmother from Germany during WW2. They are nice to have but very sad to read. Thanks for sharing your treasures with us!
I love collecting ephemera of all kinds. You have a wonderful collection, love your cards. I also have some folders that I made up for my daughter with my family ephemera. I always enjoy finding pieces at flea markets and vintage stores.
Your valentines are so sweet, my Mom saved all our baby cards, birthday cards, then my brother decided to help her out & tossed them all. My mom cried. I told her it was fine, not a big deal.....but now I would love to go through them. 😊👍
I love your items you have! I have a large box of very very old photos from my grandpa's side of the family, most are not marked so I don't know who they are. I love to pull it out and dig through them every now and then. They're family and I could never part with them.
I have heard that it’s smart to label photos with names and years. I’m so bad at remembering to do that but it’s so smart to do for future generations.
I just purchased a large collection of Victorian Valentine cards on eBay. I’m going to display them around my beautiful large mirror in my dining room for the holiday.
I am addicted to this stuff, and I just started a few months ago .I have video ed most of it.ive got several old calling cards that are so good. Ty for sharing,my next video is a to die for ephemera lol . 😁❤️
I just recently read a book about ephemera and vintage crafts. I thought about you and your creation, collection, and magazine inspiration. Here is the name of the book "Vintage Paper Crafts" by Anna Corba.
Another collection video! I love it. Do you ever keep modern-day ephemera with an eye to the future? Sometimes I come across something and I think it will be cool or interesting 20, 30 or more years from now so I tuck it away. I've saved some pandemic ephemera for just that reason.
I do save some modern things. The one envelope I had in the pile is new but it has my address on it so I didn’t want to do a close up. I also save some holiday cards.

I love Victoria Magazine. I think I have found/bought about 16 now! These magazine is different. It’s called Victorian Homes. I love this one too.
I too have missed Victoria magazine and am pleased to know about the current similar ones. I will be looking for those!

That is amazing!
I love seeing that gorgeous old cursive writing. In French it is even more beautiful. Truly a lost art now.
Love it!!! I could just look through all your stuff and never get tired of it 😍
I love your magazine themed collection presentation. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you
I call it, our secret “ time capsules”. Collecting ephemera is like eating potato chips, “I bet you can’t eat just one!” Thanks for sharing history.
So interesting, I love social history. How do you display this sort of thing .x
I will pop some in a flower frog for holidays or frame them. I like the suggestion in the magazine to lay them on an open book.
