Red Beans & Rice for certain. And the real purpose for the gravy and mashed is to dip the chicken and sandwich into.
The chicken places assume you will go for the mashed potatoes and gravy, but they don't necessarily try to up their game on that. Cole slaw is probably your next best choice, and some places have great green beans. If they have fried okra you might want to check that out. Despite the rest of the world thinking mac 'n cheese is our national dish, not many places are seeking to be the best at it.
Guys, this is a Cajun themed restaurant and both times you skipped the Cajun side dish, which honestly is like 90% of why I like Popeye's!!!! You NEEEEEEED to try the red beans and rice!!.. Please :)
it's always funny watching Brits, who are used to everything being bland, tasting GOOD food for the first time. The land that invented spice is known for having the blandest food. Watching you enjoy our food is always great

Right. I don't know why but that really irritates me when they call it a chicken burger. It's not just This couple everyone in the UK does that.
I can tell that Popeye's is in a bad neighborhood when they have to sell their chicken behind bulletproof glass! 😂
I noticed the order on the kiosk and that's probably because if they tried to order from the staff they would never understand what James was asking for. 🤣
Remember to ALWAYS avoid ordering mac n cheese at Popeye’s! Stick with Mashed potatoes and gravy and red beans and rice.
Today I had a Popeye's coupon for a chicken sandwich with one small side and a small drink for $6.99 plus tax. I spent a total of $7.48 for spicy chicken sandwich, small rice and beans, and a small coke for lunch. So good! I cannot wait to get more coupons in the mail next week for Popeye's and Subway.
I remember when a chicken sandwich and a side and a drink was a $1.99

After 76 comments on eating dry biscuits in the last video, they did it again in the very next video, no butter,jam,honey no nothing, and say it dry. I said it before brits are use to very bland food and don't have a clue about sauces!
These were all filmed and then posted after their return home before the first comment was made.

If your anywhere near the gulf coast, try the shrimp at Popeyes. It’s straight outta the gulf or at least seems like it.
You two love fast food. What did you eat growing up? I think you missed out until now. Popeyes is great. The red beans and rice, cajun rice if you can find it, and mashed potatoes with gravy are the best sides.
One of the reasons why they don't mind giving you that size for sweet tea is because it's dirt cheap for them to make it. For many restaurants, the drinks are the only thing that does make money. Even with the free fills.

You guys were spot on, I also agree their Mac and cheese is the worst thing on their menu.
The thing about American fast food is that your experience at the restaurant depends on the individual franchise and how much they value quality.
You can have something from that Popeyes and it be terrible, then you go to the other side of town and try that Popeyes and it's outstanding like its 2 different companies.
And that applies to not just popeye's, but almost every fast food place in America, there is no standard of quality.
I always smile when see people call that a "burger" 🙂 (yes I know that's typical outside the USA)

Popeyes biscuits used to be very very good. We used to have them with jelly (not gelatin) or just butter. Now they are so dry. I can’t stand them. KFC Biscuits used to be light and fluffy when they first came out many many years ago. Now they’re also dry.

I really do not like Popeyes regular chicken that much, and I do not like their mashed potatoes and gravy at all. What I do like are their chicken wings, around here they are $5.99 for 6 wings, and I like the regular Ghost Pepper wings, and the Honey BBQ wings.
My usual order is 12 wings, sometimes 6 Ghost Pepper and 6 Honey BBQ, or all 12 Ghost Pepper, and a small Cajun Fries, the Cajun Fries are pretty good too. That is all I ever get at Popeyes.
How do you go to Popeyes and not get the wings, that is their #1 seller here in Peoria Illinois. Every time I go there they have a wait to get wings, because they sell them so fast they can not keep up with demand. They bring out a bunch of wings, and they are all gone in 5 minutes, they you have to wait for them to cook more wings.
Eating a biscuit without putting anything on it is the same as eating a slice of bread by itself. You don’t do it 😂
hamburger is short for "in the hamburg style" so only ground meat sandwiches are burgers
as all burgers are sandwiches but not all sandwiches are burgers
so these are chicken sandwiches

Wow, glad that British people are tasting food that has been consumed here in good old USA for Centuries😊 including Sweet Teas, but ya'll should try tasting other foods available such as Enchiladas, Tostadas, Burritos, Encheritos, Tacos, and you haven't even attended an Native American Pow Wow and try indigenous food such as Indian Fry Bread. America is more than just fast food chains, and our American Culture is quite diverse and more than what Hollywood portrays. Not just Cowboy hats, boots and guns. Not everyone owns or uses guns, we have Archery 🎯 hunters and wild game Trappers. Many folks live in remote areas off grid. We've got our own Highlanders which their Ancestors migrated here from Scotland, Ireland, I know mine are MacDonald MacGregor Campbell MacAllister, and also from many other Countries. Just saying that America has Cuisines and Cultures from all around the world here.

I dip the chicken in the gravy and potatoes. The fries are okay, not my favorite. The biscuits can be good, depending on the franchise -- sometimes they almost seem deep fried though, yuck. I like the red beans and rice, as a staple dish since childhood and theirs is good, imo. But not everyone likes that mix. I think the mac and cheese is mostly for picky little kids.

Popeyes got rid of the best item they had. They discontinued the dirty rice, which was phenomenal.
It is still sold in SE Louisiana where I live.
They also got rid of their $5 box pre COVID. It used to be two pieces of chicken, your choice, two sides and a biscuit. 😢

I use to really like Popeyes but over the years it has become terrible. The last time i had it, it was like eating straw. Even the fries were terrible. I am glad you had a good experience. I truly believe it depends on who is in the kitchen. Not every cook is the same. One day it can be good, the next awful.
when you buy drinks re-fills are normally free, so why buy largest size? Buy a medium and refill if you like.
I heard McDonalds is thinking about getting rid of free refills. Sad times we live in.

Free refills for soft drinks are one of the reasons so many people eat poorly in this county as it is, let alone the poor quality food we're actually eating at these fast food spots. One giant drink should be enough for any normal person to have their meal with. And considering the amount of sugar in one of those cups of soda etc. I never understood why some people just want to drink 3 of them because it's free refills.

It's not your place to tell other people what to do, it's not your place to tell other people how to live. Give them the choice, don't make it for them. Also it's widespread knowledge at this point that the cup the soda comes in costs more than the soda itself does for the restaurant so if they can't offer you a free refill on $0.03 worth of syrup and soda water it's sort of a neon red flag you're being taken advantage of.

I had to look this up! I didn't realize there were a bunch of fights, a gun pulled on employees when they ran out, and unfortunately a fatal stabbing over cutting in line. Holy moly,!

If your gonna have Popeyes eat at the restaurant like the Beesleys. Bringing it home in a sealed box steams it and it looses much of it's crunchiness! Also you can ask for extra gravy with your potato's and you HAVE to have red beans and rice and a Jalapeno pepper with it as well.

Always remember with the sweet tea you can pour a bit into your cup taste it , if it's too sweet balance it out with the unsweetened tea... I have done this for years, in the south no one will bat an eye at that....
My favorite side is the red beans and rice. You can get honey packets to go with the biscuits.
The thing about chains is sometimes a particular location will suck. Eother give you old food overcook, etc. I also hear from people who have had Popeyes outside of Louisiana say it's not as good as the locations in Louisiana. I've never had it outside of my state. Popeyes is usually juicy.
I have had Popeyes in a number of places outside Louisiana and it is usually NOT as good.
If the chicken is dry, it's over cooked.
If the chicken is dry it's because it is white meat that has not been brined.
Everyone's different with what they consider "dry" tho. Probably 95% of the chicken that I eat I'd say is dry. The whole group will be raving about how amazing and juicy it is, and I don't agree. So it's subjective.
@@cloudsn I always eat dark meat chicken. It is much more juicier and flavorful and contains more nutrients than white meat chicken.
I've only gotten juicy ones.
@@snowflakehunter I prefer dark meat, but so many places these days are all white meat only. Like chicken sandwiches at restaurants are breast meat, so thick that it takes ages to cook all the way through. Even fried it comes out dry a lot.

Oh give them a break. While the terms they used aren't used in the US, it's still correct for them. If I go the UK, I'm still going to call them fries since I'm obviously used to calling them that. Though I still wouldn't be wrong calling them fries.

I've been frequenting Popeyes since they began, and didn't know they offered mac and cheese. It's not really a South Louisiana thing anyway. The cajun fries don't go with ketchup, but the red beans go smackers with Crystal hot sauce.
Popeyes "wings" don't need wing sauce. There is a bucket load of cayenne in the batter of the spicy version that blends into the meat during frying. It's a destination flavor itself.

Popeyes discontinued some of my favorite menu items, starting with jambalaya and more recently they discontinued the southern green beans and Cajun dirty rice. Truly tragic!
