Wow! The entire "Shangrila" album is a complete masterpiece. I'm certain you would love all the other tune's too. Way to go Glenn. Great sound from the guitar - crisp and clean, and great vocals too! BTW, that lyric, "Man they made me grind it out" comes from the title of Kroc's autobiograpghy "Grinding It Out." Read it long ago. Anyway, Knopfler sure does his research! "Moosehead
Thank you Moosehead! Once again, it's wonderful to hear from you! Thanks so much for your kind comments and your knowledge. I have all of Mark Knopfler's recordings. I love his stuff! I hope you are doing well, Moosehead. Thank you again! - Glenn
Thank you Martha! The sounds are really wonderful in Knopfler's song. I just followed his lead! Thanks for watching and listening! I hope all is well for you! - Glenn
wow!!! as always you are amazing. super clean, and you make that 360 12 sound superb....imma just sit here and pause the screen on that Rickenbacher and drool for a while
Thank you Don! Yes, that rose-looking fire-burst finish on the Ric 360-12 looks so good! It's a lovely guitar! Thanks for your kind comments and for watching, Don! I hope all is well for you. - Glenn
Thank you John! I really appreciate your kind comments and feedback! I'm so glad you feel that this cover came out well! I hope all is well for you, too! - Glenn
Hi Tm! Well, I am retired but I no longer drink beer or any alcohol at all to avoid some health issues I'm liable to have. So, because there is no alcohol, working on music gives me plenty to do and stay motivated. We also have a very nice vegetable garden and lots of flower gardens, so I stay plenty busy. So, maybe your wife would think that might be okay for you, too! Congratulations on being just two months away from retirement. That is wonderful for you! It took me a while to get used to being retired, but I'm in the groove now. I retired this time of year in 2016. Best wishes, -- Glenn.
Hi Julane, Yes, the song is a little dark. The words for the song came right out of Ray Krock's biography that Mark Knopfler had read. Some people are like that. Thanks for your thoughts! I hope all is well for you! - Glenn
Thank you Tim! How nice of you! Much appreciated! It was a fun project and it gave me a chance to use a couple of guitars that I don't get to play very often anymore. It is a very cool tune! I hope all is well for you! Thanks for your kind comments and for watching! - Glenn
Hi Glenn. Well done. You have an excellent voice, and your guitar riffs are phenomenal. I don't play guitar myself, but I've got friends that do. Anyhow, I thought I might comment. By the way, it's Amanda, a.k.a. Flute player 86. Things are well on my end. How are you? a friend of mine and I are doing a piece of music by the late singer songwriter Gordon Lightfoot in church. Not sure when. It's that beautiful piece, pussy willows cat tails. She plays the piano, violin, and she sings. We're trying to get a member of the contemporary bandit church to play guitar alongside us. I am on Flute, and she's on piano. Another piece that I like by Gordon Lightfoot, is minstrel of the dawn. Have you done that one yet as a cover? That would be neat to hear. Because I don't have external vision, I rely completely on auditory cues and signals to know when to start playing, and when to end. If you have any questions about my visual impairment, feel free to ask. I don't mind answering any questions you may have. by the way, just so you know, I've been blind since birth. I've been this way for 38 years, and I don't let it hold me down or stop me at all. By the way, when Mr. Lightfoot plays minstrel of the DAWN, is he using a 12 string or six string guitar? I can't tell from the recording.
HI Amanda! Nice to hear from you. Thank you for your comments on the Mark Knopfler song. And how wonderful that you get to play flute on Pussywillows Cattails. Regarding Gordon Lightfoot's Minstrel of the Dawn, I have done two covers of that song, one with a 12-string and one with a 6-string guitar. The 12-string cover is here: th-cam.com/video/Sb_aWYpbV4o/w-d-xo.html and the 6-string cover is here: th-cam.com/video/GFLuDyejhv4/w-d-xo.html Gordon Lightfoot originally recorded the guitar with a 6-string guitar. Good for you for not letting your lack of sight slow you down in this world. You are very brave! Be well out there Amanda! - Glenn
@@glennwillow5124 thanks Glenn. I don't let my lack of sight slow me down at all. I take martial arts as well. My instructor is very hands-on. I also have cerebral palsy, and sometimes don't know when my joints are out of alignment. When doing sequences of movements called KATAS, I am sometimes not aware. My instructor, or sensei is very observant. He sometimes hast to correct the alignment of my bones. I don't mind when he does that. Thank you for sending these recordings. I'll take a listen to them. do the 12 string and six string guitar sound similar?
@@fluteplayer8636 Hi Amanda! I think the 12-string and 6-string versions of the Minstrel of the Dawn sound noticeably different. Interesting that you take martial arts. Good for you! - Glenn
@@glennwillow5124 thanks. I started taking martial arts when I was 28. I've been studying under my sensei now for a while. I'm learning a lot, especially the Japanese style of fighting. Jiu-jitsu is like grappling. Also, the white cane that I carry also doubles as a self-defense weapon if necessary. If someone attacks me, they are not going to want four sharp joints going into the back of their hand. the bones on the back of your hands are very tender. If something sharp like the joints of a white cane were to connect with those bones, the attacker would let go instantly. I'm learning a lot of different throws as well. I have pretty good, keen, aesthetic awareness, but my spatial awareness is a little slow. my white cane that I carry is 46 inches long. My height is 4'10". Normally, I would carry a 44 inch white cane, but because my reaction time is slow, it has to be longer. Have you heard of something called audio descriptive? by the way, you don't have to worry. Just two months until I retire; my wife thinks you're a bad influence. Great job on a great song!
She didn't say that, but she did express concern that I'll just be sitting around playing guitar and drinking beer all day long. Guilty as charged...
