I'm always so confused about the difference between light and dark academia, especially since they seem to be used interchangeably anytime I try to look into it? Sorry, but can anyone explain the difference?
I’m hardly an expert, but I can offer my understanding: Light academia’s generally more about natural beauty, delicate things, and being both sensibly grounded and eccentrically away with the fairies. Dark academia’s more about existentialism, gothic architecture, and good old fashioned mystery. Both ‘tribes’ share common themes, such as (obviously) a thirst for knowledge, historical elements, (ranging from Ancient Greek times to around WWII) and a certain divergence from the modern mainstream, though these themes don’t manifest in quite the same ways. A light academic might spend a morning reciting poetry, and basking in breezy sunshine, while their dark counterpart might spend that same morning nursing a hangover after waking up surrounded by books on the floor. (I’m definitely not using real events for reference... not at all 😅) If you don’t have time to read all that, then try this: Light academia is lawful good; dark academia is chaotic neutral.
-ˏˋ cleo ˎˊ- It is! I mean, I might be slightly biased, but I love the timelessness of it all, light and dark. (Personally, it serves as a sort of escapism, while at the same time motivating me to peruse my academic interests with a relish that I struggled to muster even when I was living a dark academic’s dream. (Private schools aren’t always better in every way, especially when even the staff hate the headmistress.)) I know you’re very new to all of this, but has anything in particular taken your fancy? Do let me know! :)
-ˏˋ cleo ˎˊ- If that’s what you’re drawn to, then embrace it! [Insert something about moths to flames here] I like to incorporate elements of both into my everyday life, but my appearance (see also: ‘resting sad face’) and rampant cynicism nudge me in a darker direction, even if I’m still partial to flower-pressing and rolling down hills. (In my opinion, you’re never too old for that)

Dear Irina, Firstly: Thank you so much for being here. We are happy to have you! Secondly: I do believe that we can change to world. I don't deny that those things you mentioned do have quite some influence on the world, but I truly believe that we ourselves can give the opposite pole to all that. In creating our art, living with eyes wide open, full of love and wonder, we make our contribution to the world; the one we all need and which is indispensable. Everyone can change the world and make it a better place, letting their light shine and making the world a brighter place. It's a choice we make for ourselves and I truly believe that every single person does have that power. So do you. Let your light shine, bright and clear, so we can all illuminate this universe like the stars; time travellers and guides, leading each other through the darkness and stormy seas.

Alguien me puede explicar a qué se refiere con “light academy ? “ Es que últimamente lo he visto en varios lados al igual que “dark academy” Can someone explain to me what you mean by “light academy? "It is that lately I have seen it in several places like" dark academy " pls Grettins from Mexico 🇲🇽!!! Love this video
Hi ! "Light Academia" is an aesthetic wich is the opposite of dark academia, the lighter version of dark academia. There are old european and british vibes. It involves enjoying little things of life such as outdoors, nature, the company of other people and the comforts of your loved ones. It also involves an interest in art, literature, history, etc... learning in general. This aesthetic is often represented with light colours such as beige, white, cream, plaid or dim shades. Dark academia is an aesthetic that revolves. classic literature, the pursuit of self-discovery, and a general passion for knowledge and learning. It is more into mystery and darkness than light academia. We could think that this last one is a little bit more indivuals or elitist than light academia but it is not inherently negative, I promise. In both academia, there is no place for any type of shaming or bullying within the community. Be it racism, social status, homophobia, education, ability, or body shaming, etc. it is not welcome. The academic community is here for anyone who holds an appreciation for learning or chilling in grass. (I found most of informations on internet for not say anything worng) I hope my explications were understable because I'm french so I'm not very good speaking english lol. With love :)
@@sarahdlt9661 your explanation was more than just "good". It helped me to understand finally the concept of "light academia" and "dark academia" as well. so thank you so much! and take care.

@@our_house_of_arts That's not the impression I get. It seems to be only about the aesthetics of knowledge - I mean, exactly which part of it is connected to the scientific method or the humanities?
@@FlosBlog Knowledge does not only come from scientific research or studying the aspects of human society and culture. Experience is knowledge too, and from experience and reflection we gain wisdom. And what does it mean to be "an academic"? Maybe we should rethink and reshape the whole perception and opinion about academia. We live in times of great change and many opinions of the past are outdated. Although the "light and dark academia aesthetic" revolves often around the past, for me it's also an option to find out for ourselves what it does mean, for our lives and this time that we are alive, to be an academic; and hopefully we'll become the scholars of life itself and all the teachings of the universe :) And yes, light and dark academia are also about the aesthetic, but so is everything in life if you look at it with beauty and love in your eyes :) (+ this IS an aesthetic video ^^)

Thank you !! Your words touched my heart :)
I wish I could change the world like that...
In reality radical changes only happen through violence, money or political support😢
Dear Irina,
Firstly: Thank you so much for being here.
@@our_house_of_arts omg man this is beautiful!!! I´m researching world history lately with all these radical and worldchanging events (like the French Revolution) and I almost forgot how every single act is important too and how everyone has his own gift to leave for the world..
@@molotovmafia2406 It truly is very empowering to see the great mechanical of the word being influenced and changed by singe persons. You are right, we all do have our gift to share. Believe in yourself :) All my love to you

Alguien me puede explicar a qué se refiere con “light academy ? “ Es que últimamente lo he visto en varios lados al igual que “dark academy”
Can someone explain to me what you mean by “light academy? "It is that lately I have seen it in several places like" dark academy " pls
Grettins from Mexico 🇲🇽!!!
(I found most of informations on internet for not say anything worng)
I hope my explications were understable because I'm french so I'm not very good speaking english lol.
With love :)
@@sarahdlt9661 your explanation was more than just "good". It helped me to understand finally the concept of "light academia" and "dark academia" as well. so thank you so much! and take care.

when you realize light academia is basically just edwardian fashion
Edwardian England, "a new world. A better world"
Maybe fashion wise, yes. But light academia is mainly about "academia" and the thirst for knowledge, in which ever form needed :)
Although the "light and dark academia aesthetic" revolves often around the past, for me it's also an option to find out for ourselves what it does mean, for our lives and this time that we are alive, to be an academic; and hopefully we'll become the scholars of life itself and all the teachings of the universe :)
And yes, light and dark academia are also about the aesthetic, but so is everything in life if you look at it with beauty and love in your eyes :) (+ this IS an aesthetic video ^^)
@@our_house_of_arts Love what you said.

What is the song you used ?
Hello there :)
I've answered this already down below, but here's it:
Trailer music from the film "Far from the Madding Crowd" (based on the novel of Thomas Hardy) (@. As I love the film soundtrack very much I also wanted to add, that the theme you hear in this piece is adapted from a traditional British and Irish for ballad; "The Sprig of Thyme"/"Let no man steal your thyme" (@t. Maybe you have some time to check the links :)
I hope I could help, take care :)

Thank you, love 💛 yeah, I guess it's different for everyone…I personally am more a dark academia person but I love light academia stuff as well. But the ultimate academia aesthetic to me is a combination of romantic / witchy and ocean academia…✨
I'm dark academia at night, and light academia the day. I've the old memory of being a demi-god of day and night. With my lover, we kiss under the moon, under the stars, under the sun.
