- Helsinki is the capital and most populous city in Finland. It is located on the shore of the Gulf of Finland and serves as the seat of the Uusimaa region in southern Finland. Approximately 0.67 million people live in the municipality, with 1.25 million in the capital region, and 1.58 million in the metropolitan area. As the most populous urban area in Finland, it is the country's most significant centre for politics, education, finance, culture, and research. Helsinki is situated 80 kilometres to the north of Tallinn, Estonia, 360 kilometres to the north of Riga, Latvia, 400 kilometres to the east of Stockholm, Sweden, and 300 kilometres to the west of Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Finland was part of Russian empire as "Grand Duchy of Finland" but NEVER part off Soviet Russia. And in Helsinki (my home town) there is NO "Soviet buildings". But here is Neoclassical architecture by German architect Carl Ludvig Engel etc...
Thanks for educating me. Love it when the locals teach me a thing or two
No soviet buildings in finland. Why would there be?
Don't forget the Russian embassy building :)
@@SvenErik_Lindstrom3😂😂😂😂 Nice one
Thank you for the video! I am from Helsinki, but I am currently living abroad. This helped my home sickness.
Haha. Glad that I was able to help 😂😂
A lot of Finns travel to the UK every year but not by car because flying is much easier. I myself lived in the UK for five years when young. The ferries can travel also during the winter time because we have icebreaker ships that keep the sea ways open. I'm curious why did you travel to Finland during such grey and miserable time of the year? Summer or winter are much nicer.
Thanks for the useful information. I was in Estonia for a few days, so thought it would be a good idea to visit the Finns 😉👌🏾
Finland was never under communism. Never a part of the Soviet union and never an eastern bloc country. Finland was directly a part of Sweden. They were the same country. Later an autonomous grand duchy of Russia's Empire of tsar 100 years. 1917 Finland declared its independence and has been independent and free ever since.
👌🏾
We finns were colonialized by sweden. We never was part of sweden. Its like you would say africa was part of western europe.
Russia build our railways and lot of things. Sweden never did any good to Finland. Sweden also tried to eliminate finnish language. Our roots are in east like all finno-ugric people. West has done only bad to finland
Sweden never colonized Finland. Finland was directly a part of Sweden for over 600 years.
@@gabrielgabriel5177Finland 🇫🇮 is a Nordic country with Sweden 🇸🇪 Norway 🇸🇯 Denmark 🇩🇰 and Iceland 🇮🇸 politically, economically, religiously, culturally and geographically.
Finland was ranked the best country by World economic Forum conference in 2019 and the happiest country seven times in a row by World happiness index report and UN. All the other Nordic countries are among the ten best and happiest countries. This proves how western and Nordic Finland is.
I am eastern orthodox finn and it would be better for finland not to be ruled over by sweden butby Russia. At least orthodox church would not have been persecuted in Finland.
Russia build lot of things in Finland like railways. Sweden never did any good to Finland
Yes, the perfect Russia. We would have had serfs in droves, no freedom for the common man, and all the other "great" things that come from there. You have to know that you can always move to Russia if you really long for the rule of a czar and for the war-promoting Russian orthodox church? Bon voyage!
@@gabrielgabriel5177 Do you know what Russia is doing in Ukraine or do you live in a barrel?
