    They didn't have a collective press because they were instructed to press with only 3-4 players. If the first wave of pressure was broken, Herrera and Matic were instructed to screen or man-mark City's forward options for extra cover.

    In my opinion Mourinho devised a plan which was quite unorthodox but which not many people spotted and had he better players it could have proven effective.
    If you notice in the game contrary to the video no one was actually marking De Bruyne and Silva, they seemed to have all the time in the world on the ball which seemed like an oversight but was actually intentional.
    My view was that the tactic was to allow Silva and De bruyne to have as much of the ball as they wanted but to close off every single FORWARD passing channel available to them forcing them to run forwards with the ball themselves. The plan was then for them to run into a sea of bodies whereby Man utd would gain possession in the middle of the pitch and then counter attack from there.
    It was a similar tactic that Mourinho used against LVG's united n 14-15 where chelsea controlled the game without controlling possession.
    The plan fell down because Man United won possession with players who were not good enough on the ball and also Lukaku, Rashford and Martial didn't counter attack in tandem it was more individualitic rather than a cohesive team counter attack which could be exemplified by the Madrid team of Ozil, Ronaldo, Benzema and DI maria. Most of the time United when they got the ball did have the bravery of Pogba to carry it, they simply asked too much of Rashford and Martial who thought it was their job to take on the city defence alone when you can also counter attack through swift quick passing (e.g Ozil)
    For all City's perceived dominance, and undoubtedly they played very well I do believe that United allowed them more time and space on the ball on purpose as a tactic but one which they failed to benefit from and it wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be from United. This is my true humble opinion on the match

      tbh.. if you think about it, yes City played good football but they only scored 2 goals cause of Lukaku.. kinda sucks since the goals were just stupid mistakes instead of them playing well.

      omario8822 one thing that bothered me was Lingard starting. He had no technical control of the ball for CAM. He wad just there to track back and help defensively. we needed creativity in that position and especially when we don't have Pogba. Mata should have gotten the nod and the ball would've been distributed better to Martial and Rashford. We had so many long balls in that first half that City didnt even press. With Mata starting, I think Fernandinho would have not been a problem because he has to worry about Mata.

      Nice point but a really poor tactic (if it was actually employed by Mourinho) because that would mean United would win the ball at the edge of their box most of the time and that would just make it difficult to create any effective counter attacks cuz the distance to City's goal is bigger and lesser players to counter attack with.

      Omario 8822 Spot on! I have been criticized by my friends for saying that United was decent. i am pissed off hearing that Pep outclassed Mourinho. It was not the case at all. Please understand it was Mou's tactics to let City have the ball. He tried to stop the passing channels. City had an easier job defending our counter attacks knowing that we had zero threat through the middle without Pogba. They were overloading the relevant wing whenever we were trying to counter. And without Pogba nobody could switch play for United. City even struggled to defend the counters at times. In the first half alone Lukaku should have been through twice (I agree Jesus should have scored twice as well). In the second half Mou tried to be a little more aggressive, but the unlucky 2nd goal made it difficult for us. Please try to understand our thing is not possession football, at least not with Mou. If you wanted this why did not you back LVG? He was trying to do that. And that takes time. Even with good players like Silva, KDB, Aguero, Sterling City had to accept a shit season. And with all the cosmic football going on City has been lucky a few times as well (Yes, they forced their luck, you could argue), I know we have the delusions with sir Alex. Sir Alex's tactics was similar to Mou's in big games (See the natch statistics you will know.)And we were battered twice by Barca in UCL finals. I don't have problem with people obsessed with result. But if you are doing tactical analysis, get over the obsession about results. We played with similar tactics against Ajax in Europa league final and Mou was genius because we won!!! fans, Try to be unbiased and try to get over delusions.

      But even so, United did not press City well. Only a few players pressed. The back line only waited to defend. More reactive than proactive which suited City. If United had pressed the way say Liverpool press, then maybe things would have been more interesting only that United aren't as lethal as Liverpool in attack

    • @majidmenouar2444
      @majidmenouar2444 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well Mourinho Could not take that risk to press collectively for two reasons
      1-that's not his style and you can't change your walk for one opponent or you will lose your team balance ( United played 5-3-2 earlier)
      2- You would not risk let The Jets (Sané and Sterling) free at the wings
      So Man City was in a high level no one can deny

    Brilliant analysis. Spot on. Two things for me
    1. Pep is a genius. his philosophy has kicked in and city could go very far in the Champions League which scares me.
    2. United is useless without Pogba. Not saying we'd have won if he played, but our overall play would've been better, especially on the counter. Mourinho imposed the same tactics against arsenal with a different formation, But Pep outsmarted him and won this game. We've work to do

    • @valdimarz
      @valdimarz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      your also forgetting Bailly... the dude literally makes our defense 95% better.

    • @winphet
      @winphet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Kingejiro. Napoli prove than you can counter City game.
      1. Your defense depends on your attack. If you concentrate your attack (3 or 4 players) in one side, lets say left side, you don't need to put many defenders in this side, your defense will slide more to the center and right side. As you attack with 3 or 4 players City will defend with 4 or 5 players.
      2. Your attack depends on your defence. If you decide to open the miedfield in one side (right side) just put 2 players, fullback and a miedfield to defend very low, your attack must be long on this side.
      MU want to defend and occupy all the picht, you can't because you run after the ball. Don't be afraid by Sane, let him receive the ball then defend after near the box. Let City come in one side and then close this side.
      The more you avoid City to attack on each side (left, right, center) by occupying all the picht, the more you give opportunities to City to attack everywhere. When City's attack start at the middle with Otamendi, Stone, let them pass the ball to Silva or De Bruyne at the left or right side and then close this side. NO NEED to press Silva or De Bruyne at the middle when they receive ball because they will always find an other space or side, let them receive ball in order they choose the way to attack then you can defend. How can you defend if you don't know where they will attack ?
      City's play is to widen, to separate others players, don't follow and press City players everywhere.

    • @kingejiro
      @kingejiro 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup true Bailly is a rock and our best defender. I can also mention Matic who holds our midfield and De Gea who's the best GK in the world. But in terms of our overall play, Pogba is the man. Without him we've no drive, almost no direction and 0 flair. Let's not forget he's the best passer in the team and prolly in the EPL too

    • @sivispacemparabellum3056
      @sivispacemparabellum3056 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CITY AND ARSENAL IS VERY BIG IN QUALITY TOO.AND EVEN MORE YOU LOOK AT THE BENCH THAT ALSO PLAY Á LOT BUT THE TACTICS OF GUARDIOLA CAN BE Á VERY BIG PROBLEM BUT MOURINHO ALREADY BEAT HIM AND CONTE TOO SO THEY CAN BE BEATEN BUT YOU NEED MORE QUALITY AND BE PERFECT IN COUNTER ATTACKING LIKE BAYERN DESTROYED BARCELONA FEW YEARS AGO OR REAL DESTROYED BAYERN 2-3 YEARS AGO IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SÉMI FINAL

      Delph is naturally in the centre of midfield and has been moved to full back and is thriving in his new position. It's a comparison of their situation under Pep, hence why I said "doing to Delph what he did with Lahm", (moving them out of their normal position and into another and improving their game). I said "Otamendi is becoming the next Mascherano". Maybe you should learn to read things properly, mate?

    I, as A Man U fan, is sad to see this loss. I think Jose let City play their way. Instead of just parking the bus, I believe that Jose should have gone for dominance instead of parking the bus. Maybe try to analyze their movement more and try to intercept it instead of playing long balls, try to start from the back and maybe short passes and maybe try to switch during the game atleast once in a while

    As Michael Cox pointed out in his column, Man City changed system a few minutes into the game with Sane going right and Jesus going left so Sterling played as a false 9 which does a good job of confusing the opposition.

    I prefer seeing Ospina in action. more often than Chech. And Martens should also get games. We can't wait until Chech retire to groom the youngsters.

    Yeah yeah they tried did well but still couldnt break them down. United gifted them with those two goals. Shows you only manager that can tactically stop peps is the special one

    Finally goals came from corners and free kick, for me that's a sign of tactical ineffectiveness. United is very poor, loads of mistakes.

  • @jagohitch4240
    @jagohitch4240 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    liked the tactical analysis. the original invicibles were mainly bargain basement players and players sitting dormant on other teams benches. not the billion £ man city team pep has now. no real comparison.

    Personally watching this i have discovered the problem is not us defending the whole game,the problem is our defending shutdown our counterattacking plans.. You see Lukaku very isolated how can he initiate the counter if there were no one around

    If mourinho change their tactics and played with conte's style 3-4-2-1 then it would be very interesting 2nd half..

    And so the losses begin. Just like every achievement, as soon as 1 man shows it can be done others will do it too. Man City really would have lost before now if Pogba wasn't banned though. Invincibles is not easy. Even PSG which is 5 times better than their next closest team can't pull it off. In a typical top division league, it needs impossible skill or luck.

    • @kizza1960

      Impossible skill or luck, one man shows it can be done others will do it too, Pogba banned. Good god man, are you even interested in football, or do you just love the tabloid drama of it?

      +Chris Bateman Not sure how what you said added to the potential discussion but to answer you. I don't follow football 24/7 actually I only watch 4 mins highlights on youtube when I'm free. That doesn't mean I can't have a valid opinion.

    • @TheVariableConstant
      @TheVariableConstant 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What did I tell you bro? Man Unt would have won that match if they had Pogba. Not only the recent United win from being 2 down but City has lost others as I predicted. It's funny that I watch 5mins videos and see the game clearer than those who spend their hours watching! It's all about paying attention.
