    Watching the amount of work, care and craftsmanship that goes into a handmade knife I'm amazed that anyone has the bare faced cheek to complain about the price especially since a big chunk goes to the UK government as well - and that includes Ray Mears knives. Cant wait for my Bushtool Rob.

    This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for, easy to follow instructions. My nephew has had a SWC blade since 2010, never got round to doing anything with it, I told him to hang fire until we had worked out how to get the best handle on it. I bought a Casstrom Lars blade only to have a go at first, struggling would be the best way to describe my efforts so far, practiced on some mahogany scales I had, I messed them up badly when I came to drilling them out. I’ve got some Oak Dymondwood scales that I am attempting to put on it now with orange liners. Doing as much as I can with basic hand tools, a half round file a drill and a few sheets of sandpaper. I’ve got the loveless bolts but saving them for the SWC, so I’ve gone with aluminium Corby bolts and aluminium tube for my first attempt.

    • @RobEvansWoodsman
      @RobEvansWoodsman  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Corby bolts are more awkward than loveless bolts to fit, that's why I only use them if I run out of loveless.

    • @cujomojo
      @cujomojo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RobEvansWoodsman Damn, I was hoping the aluminium would be easier to work by hand. To get the colour contrast I was aiming for I would have to go for the stainless loveless bolts, the only ones I can find have a 3.8mm screw. The pre-drilled holes in the Lars blade are 5mm.

Actually I own 2 hunting knives with that steel, one is ok holds it's edge like 1095, however, the 2nd holds it's edge like supersteels, I could never get it to dull. It only lost it's super sharp edge a little, after tons of use. Problem is, I'm not a hunter, but I love wood whittling. That's why I wish I had 1 from your hands!!

    • @RobEvansWoodsman
      @RobEvansWoodsman  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Provided that you don't push too hard the steel won't get hot enough to damage the HT, worn belts get hot because they don't cut anymore, careful around bolts and tubes because if they get too hot you will burn the epoxy and micarta around them, I only use sanding sealer on very light micarta and G10, orange , ivory etc.
