Useful information and hysterical laughter! I need to stop listening to this when working out because its dangerous when I burst out laughing when heavy weights are above my head!
Thx to Rich, I was able to get a beautiful beard well trimmed, his guidance and neutral opinion helped to find my way through this dark web forest. Not only my beard and hair is now well cut but thx to the Japanese blade it will last for long. I want to thanks Panasonic and amazon for providing such quality product that shape my face like Rich top talented skill of cutting is able to do with proof on screen. Now Ben we need to talk about this... Hey what is the name of that not Macna show? Sound interesting and the type of show/conference I'm interested (but I live in Montréal) edit: Oh and Btw, on my display tank, 30g, I'm using Kalkwasser, All For reef, Sodium Carbonate and currently adding Calcium Reactor. On a F****** 30g.
All for reef vs calcium reactor its all in what you want to do. Both will get you amazing tank. You guys are my favorite make learning fun. So much info in both your minds!!!
Great episode! I really like the idea of a new conference/group. I’m definitely interested in the education part, as I usually don’t buy many corals at shows. I prefer learning more and talking to other reefers, to me that’s one of the most important parts of the hobby that gets overlooked, learning from others. Cheers!
@8:00 re:juicing you should listen to Melev’s Reef guest live stream called Let’s talk about cyanide-caught fish and what we know. Particularly around the 21:00 mark of that episode. It makes me wonder if cyanide caught fish are as damaged as we think they are. The guest seemed really experienced with it and had the opposite opinion-fish recover from cyanide within days. It’s interesting for sure. Im sure there are causes of death we just don’t understand yet.
@@TrevorHiller Thanks! That is Andrew Rhyne, a friend and a friend of the show. He even used the term mind story! I ask him, maybe have him on, to talk about this some more. I have some thoughts about sensitive fish vs clown fish and juice, and it isn't not eating, rather eating and still losing weight that fits with the idea of juice hurting the fish gut. BUt I am always open to being wrong!
I run a Ca reactor and my PH is between 8.2-8.4. 0 Kalkwasser I I also run at a higher PH inside and run it as a constant flow so it never clogs. Costs me $50 a year. initial purchase cost is high yes but pays itself back in a couple years
Purely theoretically; couldnt the calcium carbonate fraction of parrotfishes diet function similarly to fiber for other species? Proposing some digestive dysfunction similar to what is being discussed/reported in losses at delayed stages of feeding Zanclus cornutus (moorish idol) specimens without ample fiber intakes. If so, in what ways does CaCO3 behave differently to organic fiber in digestion regulation? pH buffering/gas under acidic digestive exposure jumps out. Would the effects be noticeable faster as a result of those differences? The impact on the microalgal diet vs captive offerings as well or are they herbivorously flexible with CaCO3/fiber intake? Collection wise parrotfish dont seem particularly beatup after shipment ime. Nor are they out of place in a reef tank (unless its acrylic, I dont want to talk about how I know) any more than other wrasses, perhaps even less for rubble field species.
You recommended an expensive tilefish (without adequately securing the overflow) and a finicky parrotfish (apparently without a meaningful quarantine process), and you're acting surprised and aggrieved that the customer is pissy about flushing $800 down the drain following your suggestions?
Where did you get that the parrot did not go through a meaningful quarantine process? The tilefish did not seem small enough to go through the overflow teeth. It was very close. I don’t like to impede the flow through overflow teeth if I don’t have to. Just curious why you seem so grumpy about all this when you don’t really know the details besides what I’ve provided here.
There is no plug-in on your horse! You make my day, thanks!
Ben is lookin fly as hell with his long hair and beanie

I would be very interested in an informational/educational focused conference. I hope it happens!
Thank you Rich for coming and speaking at Fragsgiving! It was great to meet you.

Hey Rich thanks for the Shout out about FragsGiving and Boston Reefers Society. Appreciate everything. Hopefully we will see you next year 🤫
Thanks for the great event!!
You two always brighten my day!
I’m with Ben. I use All for Reef on my two systems, and it’s easy, consistent, and affordable (using the big tubs of powder).

Got a link?
Thanks
@@cephhead TH-cam deletes the link when I post it. If you search “Melev’s Reef cyanide” it’ll come right up.

Love polyp lab carbon! Awesome job Rich and Ben!

A4R + Kalk stirrer (Avast) has worked well for me. I don't have the space to set up a calcium reactor, let alone the up front cost concern.
NLRO😂😂

That's one way to stroke his ego; well deserved, of course.
Funny setting up All for Reef, as I listen to this, on my 150 mix reef. (Maxed out with kalk) so I say Ben wins 😜
Am I crazy or does Rich have the fake beard again? Every time he touches his face, it disappears 😂
HAHAHA

Ok, you shamed me enough to upgrade to a paid reef beef discord membership 🤦♂️
