Twin Air Powerflow Kit On The Honda CRF450L / More Air In Means More Horses Out

- Dollar per gram more expensive than coke, but will it supercharge your bike? OK. That was a horrible analogy and I don't even know that it's accurate. But seriously, the filter holder is very expensive for a few pieces of aluminum. $130 and up. I do however REALLY like the pre-oil Twin Air filters. No muss nor fuss just clean air.

The metal screen on the stock filter cage has little metal tabs around the edge that hold the metal screen to the plastic cage. You can flip them up with a flathead screwdriver and the screen pops right out :)
WAY cheaper than buying the Twin Air
Tip. Don't worry about the "buckets" of cleaning stuff. Gallon ZipLoc bags are what I use to clean and oil air filters.
That's a great idea.
Awesome thanks John. Sometimes a small layer of grease around the base of the air filter helps to make a better seal against dust etc.
Thanks Christian.
Hi John
Are you running the bike all the time with the top of the airbox open as it is in the video? Thanks in advance! Keep the content coming really growing here in the uk!
Yes. Can't get more air out if you can't get more air in. Thanks for asking Jack, something I maybe never mentioned before.
Hi John love you’re videos. How often are you changing you’re air filter ?
When it looks dirty I wash and re-oil it. Totally depends on riding conditions.
Another good video, John!
Everytime I watch one of your videos, I'm usually walking around whistling your opening music for a couple hours, lol.
What's the next big mod you have planned?
Looking forward to a rebuild video (miles down the road).. maybe a valve check video?
Have a nice day!
Rekluse Clutch and "Nav tower", are the biggies. I still have some video of
chains and sprockets, but I haven't made them into anything yet.
@@JohnTYoung Looking forward to the clutch and tower vids!
Did u leave the air box lid off and how's that go over when washing and in deep mud conditions
I took that off on day one and haven't had any issues... unless you TRY to spray water into it.
Hi John thanks for all these great videos! Really helping me to do the mods on my 21 450rl. Just wanted to ask if you leave the plastic airbox cover on top off or on while riding? Thanks again for all your helpful videos!
Thanks Chad. Off, for sure. Even stock taking the lid off adds 1 HP according to the dyno.
Hey John. Just wondering how much money $$$ you have spent on mods to this Honda to get it to run like you want it to or expect it should? Is it worth it?
Quite a lot, but honestly after the Vortex and Yosh pipe it was 90% dialed. The seat and tank made it Adventure Ready.
Hey John, have you had any leaks with twin air filters? I cannot seem to get mine seated properly, cannot get the foam even placed behind the lip on the intake housing, part of the foam seat ends up creased when I take it of again, any tips? Of course I don't have that horribly expensive twin air cage LOL
It is a total PITA for sure. I took some material off the middle of the holder so it would tighten down more.
@@JohnTYoung Thanks John, I thought the same, shave of a mm or two from the cage shoulder to clamp it down tighter. For now I've gone back to OEM filter after being so disappointed seeing a dusty intake, thankfully my valves are still in spec, maybe I'll try the twin air again after the cage mod, cheers
John do you happen to know what part number you ordered? I don't see one listed for the 450L. I assume you ordered it for a 450X or 450R but would like to double check before i order one. Also thanks for the great videos on the 450L!
Thanks Joey. I must have ordered the 450X kit. I can't find the original order anywhere.
Twin air part # 150227C, this fits the 2019-2021 CRF450L and RL. I know you’ve probably already found it but figured if anyone else was looking for one they could get it here.
I’m all for spending stupid money modding my bikes but I can’t bring myself to spending $120 for a filter cage. It should be half that price
Great video! What is the setting you have the vortex? I just purchased the same twin air power flow kit and the vortex ecu.
I use 1 or 2 a lot. I like 3 as well for hauling a lot of gear.
Are you still using the power flow kit? I kinda like the idea of it because then I can keep the stock screen along with the stock cover in case I ever switch the bike back to stock.
I am.
@@JohnTYoung Thank you
Does K&N make a filter?
I, errr, I have no idea.
Does this still use the stock replacement air filter? Just ditches the screen correct?
It does not use a stock filter. the cage is different.
Air filter not oil filter lol you could just cut the screen out on the stock one save yourself $120.00 what I’d do
But then I'd have people calling me cheap skate and telling me to spend the money. Can't win.
John T. Young lol nope but that seems a bit steep for that cage but then I drive a 2003 XR 400 but I love it
With out the cover on won’t water work it’s way into the intake
The cover has an opening in it as well
I've never been inclined to mess with the OEM air filter/box. I reckon the manufacturers have the most design experience on their machines, and this isn't something you want to get wrong.
Pulling the cover is an instant 1HP gain, as dynoed. It also makes the bike a dB louder. Honda made the bike to be 50 states legal, not efficient or powerful. They did, however, make the cover come off very easily.
@@JohnTYoung Fair enough.... as long as there's no chance that the foam can ever disintegrate and be pulled into your pristine engine.
The Twin Air filter cage is $120 however if the engine inhales dirt from a botched plastic cage trying to remove the screen it is *THOUSANDS* as the cylinder (Nikasil)/crankshaft /valves/throttle body is all *sand blasted.* I have seen more race bikes/dual sports bikes have that happen and the money it takes to 'make it right' again ($120 is like $1 dollar). ✔ EDIT (air filter is the most neglected/oil-incorrectly (not enough oil) or NO oil at all. Working at Yamaha/Kawasaki shop.
The Honda cage just has four metal tabs you can bend back and the metal mesh will pop out. Takes about 10 minutes and you save 120 buckeroos.
What kind of MPG are you getting ?
Anywhere from 30 to 50 depending on Braap Factor.
I hemorrhage cash more than the average person-
But even my tummy flopped at $120 for that little contraption.
I was thinking $24.99 would be fair.
Ya, I know!
Did you notice anything in performance?
I did not, but I did swap in a new 52 tooth rear sprocket just after that so... I'll check my MPG when I get the chance and see if it is running any better in that regard.
Carburetor?
That screen is redundant regardless on newer fuel injected bikes.
No. Fuel injected.
@@bradleythomsen3083 I feel redundant myself sometimes.
Semantics.. .you all new what he ment. Keep it up John, your stuff is great.
That thing looks cool to bad it gets covered up .you just have to make shur your friends are around when you change it that's what I would do .
It's either that or break out the hole saw.!!!!!!
LMAO
Instead of buying the fancy cage thing, why didn’t you just cut the screen out of the OEM bracket?
Because I'm fancy! And I didn't think of it...
That was what I was thinking, and started reading comments to see if anybody else did too.
thats a ridiculous price... should be 20 bucks max for that thing. that is crazy
True
Waste of money just cut the screen out of your stock one if you think it's going to do something different.
Well that answers the first question I had.
