Nicely put. Something that is often lost on modern audiences. Where it's all about instant gratification, sound bites, memes, fast edits, flashy visuals, swipe left, fast forward, next... It's always nice to see that there are still exceptions to this trend. :)

Exactly.. they gave space to their compositions and allowed the song to breathe, build and fall. They fully exhausted an idea and recorded every which way that it might have taken them. I wish more musicians, guitarists especially, would allow space in their songs.. it is the key essence for making a song build up into a euphoric climax.

Was just thinking , something that’s rarely ever mentioned is how patient they are , when most songs and bands need to fit their music into what producers think will sell , with Pink Floyd there is no compromising, the sound, the music, the message, is non negotiable

This song was recorded for Wish You Were Here in 1975 and tells the story of their founding member Syd Barrett (the Crazy Diamond). During the recording of their second album, Syd, who was already suffering from schizophrenia, went on an LSD trip that he basically never returned from. He ended up leaving the band and disappearing from the music business altogether after a brief try at a solo career. This song was written in his honor and the lyrics are some of the most heartbreaking ever recorded. In an interesting twist of fate, Syd actually showed up at the studio the day the group was recording this song!! He had shaved his head and gained a lot of weight, to the point that nobody in the group initially recognized him. After this brief reunion, Syd disappeared again and none of the other group members ever saw him again. He is now known as one of the most infamous rock and roll drug casualties of all time.

Pink Floyd ROCKS!! They are of the era when musicians were true artist and they gave it there all in their music. As much as I love some of the new stuff I feel like too many of the current artist shuck stuff out without putting as much thought into as they did before. If you look at the music of thre Pink Floyd era the songs were normally 6 to 15 minutes long (longer in some cases) they gave their fans their money's worth. Now a days you are lucky if a song lasts 3 to 4 minutes and has half the meaning behind it.

When this albumm was new, i was in my late teens. It was never about relaxing wi th a drink. It was a whole group of people my age +/- experiencing a journey being played out on quadraphonic stereos with bose 901 speakers. Introspection a nd it took you along on that journey bynmeans of unreal musical riffs as the vehicle and the lyrics as your guide. The fact that there may have been a little weed being enjoyed might have had a bit to do with it. But i can honestly say it was the most enjoyable musical days ive ever known.

I love that you close your eyes when you listen sometimes. When you close your eyes, and the brain stops getting visual stimuli,
it diverts that unused processing power to the other senses; hearing, or auditory perception, is the sense most affected by this phenomena. Listening abilities are ramped up, allowing for a much deeper comprehension of the sound. Singers do it as well for the same exact reason.

I don't disagree but... some half decent, properly amplified, speakers blow all but the most expensive headphones out of the water. Especially those ridiculous little earbuds, that millennials seem to favour. If you're lucky enough to be able to afford decent speakers, no headphones can touch them. Whilst some decent, over-ear headphones do make a real difference, the headphones that the vast majority of people use, are pretty dreadful, tbh. They're either all about the bass end... and nothing else, or they have no bass end to speak of. :)

With classic rock ,don't focus too much on the videos. They weren't really a thing back then and many were added later. It's all about the music and videos can distract. Especially as modern audiences have been taught to focus on visuals. Unlike audiences back then, when it really was all about the music. People would spend hours and hours just listening. Really listening. There are a few notable exceptions, this video is ok, for instance, however, generally speaking, you're best off just listening to the audio. If you must have visuals, look for a live performance. All of the classic rock artists were virtuoso musicians and were usually brilliant live. :)

Probably my favorite Pink Floyd album. Put on the headphones and listen to the whole album straight through: preferably in a dark room so it's just you and the music. You can argue that Dark Side of the Moon is better, and honestly, I'll listen through both albums on a regular basis. Each has it's merits.

Gilmour guitar explains Syd's mind.. the atmosphere.. with great details.. the dread, the dissociation.. everyhting you'd expect knowing Syd condition and makes you feel it into the soul...BUT ALL WITHOUT SAYING A FUCKING WORD.. No other guitarists can say so much with a few guitar notes.. GOD HIMSELF

Welp, when I snuck into my older brothers room as a teen and saw his high tech turntable and top of the line high wattage components I had to hear something on it. I put on Shine on you Crazy Diamond and was transformed to another dimension with my virgin sensory ears and eyes at that age. No doubt they were doing something out of the ordinary.

Congratulations girlfriend, you have just listened to arguably that best, re most epic, Pink Floyd song ever! And watching you get into the tune the way did pretty much proves the point!
"Dark Side of the Moon" & "The Wall" are hugely popular records, but the album Wish You Were Here is, in my humble opinion, the best Pink Floyd album there is!

First time I heard this song, I like fell asleep or something cause all of sudden it felt like warm water was filling the room. And the moment it went over my head I flew out of my body. I flew through space until I came upon a tree made of light and colors. Then my friend knocked on my window and it felt I was slammed back into myself. Song was only like a few minutes in, crazy experience lol

Back when I was young and foolish I thought a song had to have a lot of words to sound right then a friend played this for me. As the music trickled in my ears my soul opened as did my mind. That was many years ago and to this day I get high listening to Pink Floyd. It is like a calm flows through my body and washes my soul clean of all the daily drama

This period of Pink Floyd was about Sick Syd and his decline into madness. Syd Barrett was the founder and slowly lost grip of reality in a copious deluge of street corner pharmaceuticals. This theme would be a solid foundation for the band that he founded and Syd would live in his mothers basement and show up back stage at Pink Floyd gigs from time to time in a wheelchair. He did record after his breakdown without much success. He passed from cancer at 60 years of age and his legacy was stellar. Pink Floyd holds so many records and Dark Side of the Moon spent 750 weeks on the billboard charts straight, fell out and regained status. They were perfection in concert and haven't toured in over 20 years.

I knew of the original singer guitarist of Pink Floyd! I bought their first album but threw it in the pile of albums! It wasn’t till years later I decided to give it a real try! Then I discovered Syd! And what Floyd were writing about and where they drew a bunch of their inspirations from! So love that first but it may role right off the casual listeners ear which is understandable! Still love your take on 70’s Rock! Bless you!!

Hello India, Love you Channel and Reactions. You are one of the FEW REACTORS who are REAL and SINCERE...!! If you Love R&B Smooth Jazz (I grew up listening to it all..!!)then I'm going to open up your World to without a doubt one of THE GREATEST Musicians EVER..!! You can even do a Reaction to Him and his Legendary Group called "The Pat Metheny Group" featuring "Lyle Mays" who is equally as talented. Their music will open your Mind and Soul to a whole new Realm of Emotion...... First song I suggest you listen to which is to me, one of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS EVER WRITTEN; "September Fifteenth", which is a song written about the day the Great Jazz Pianist Bill Evans died. He was Miles Davis pianist so you know he was legendary. There are so many songs to suggest; "5-5-7", "Are We There Yet" just for starters. Peace Beautiful Sister.............

A wise choice to close your eyes at times. As much as the visuals in Pink Floyd's videos were incredibly psychedelic, and ahead of their time, musically sometimes its good to disassociate with our modern penchant for "watching" music videos, and take the time to just listen to the music. These were the days when albums reigned true, and singles weren't as dominant. This was a song to just sit in your living room and just let the record play. No distractions, just feeling it.
