@@raverave4667 Are you honestly concerned with what someone wears? smh Could you be *more* shallow? lol Honestly, think about what you just stated. I mean *gasp* he wears an "enter item of moral outrage"!!! It's like you are looking for something...anything...to find fault. There is not a factory somewhere that just pumps out another Scott Weiland...or *any* vocalist. There are actual human beings...with an entire life history of lived experiences behind them, and each of those *individuals* brings that to their performances. I'll repeat that...these are actual human beings...each one of them an individual...not intended to be a carbon copy of another. I don't say this to be mean, but rather to remind you that these people aren't here for YOU. They exist, and live in this world as THEY chose to do so, not as you deem appropriate (or not). Since no one has ever told you, when you encounter an intensity like Weiland had in his vocal performances, that is *very often* an indication of personality psychopathology...which is the characterological disorder that underlies most all addiction...to alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, porn, shopping, hoarding...and I know this because I've studied it at a post-doc level for about 7 years full time and another 2 part-time. That intensity might be awesome for us fans to encounter, but it is a *pure living hell* for the person afflicted with it, and anyone who ever has to work, live with, or love them (romantic, friend, or family member, and most definitely their children). Maybe don't walk around the world unknowingly wishing that on people. That is something you shouldn't even wish on your worst enemy. That's not hyperbole.
I was 18 when Purple came out Now I`m 47 and this is still one of the coolest albums. Made me appreciate not just hard rock but also Blues, folk and country.

The older I get the more I realize the rare oddity required for bands like STP to meld. Each member reeks of talent and a fresh vision with each album. Bravo to the recording engineer, camera work, and four badass musicians. The quality of this mix is worthy of a live album release. Damn I miss Scott but Jeff is filling big shoes with dignity. They couldn't have found a better singer to fill Scott's shoes. When I listen to Jeff sing with STP, it's like he's paying tribute to Scott and the legacy of STP... R.I.P. Scott
Maaan... it's almost as if Scott poured his soul into these lyrics, that Jeff snaps into a piece of Scott when he sings these songs. It's really an amazing picture. Like literally, Scott's soul lives within the music.

1994 was such an *unbelievable* year for music. This album (which is perfect, front to back)…Dookie, Jar of Flies, Superunknown, Dream Theater’s Awake, Cracked Rear View…it’s almost like a classic album was getting released on a weekly basis…
Agreed! but you should also check out ALL the movies that came out in 1994 too! what an insane year to be alive! i was only 4...but i certainly remember listening to this stuff with my dad haha
Eric's playing-at the back end of the beat, making you wait for that hit til the last possible second. Robert's playing-propulsive, from the front, eager to move along. And then between them, Dean holds all that center space brilliantly. Such an incredible group of players. Dismissed often in the 90s despite being the most musically literate band of the alt/grunge explosion.
id argue that robert de leo is as literate a player as sting, but id say that especially soundgarden (matt cameron) and everyone in Pearl Jam are on this level too. Sth. like Black wasn't written by chance ;-)
I have to agree that STP have some punch that you won't get from PJ. But Pearl Jam's music is deeper, more complex and those old songs always touch my heart.
@@sanjaykale6235 Yeah, Pearl Jam was largely a jam band that was super good at it and had Eddie Vedder. STP is swimming in the lineage of Rock's pantheon, and easily accessed The Beatles as surely as they did Zeppelin.
@@sanjaykale6235 I hated that. I never saw them as “grunge.” They were filed under “alternative like the grunge bands.” That’s the only connection. Purple is a masterpiece. I read lots of different debates about greatest albums of this genre but fery few rise to the same level of amazingly great across the entire track list as this one. RIP Scott.
Fucking masterpiece! Purple has to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time. I can't think of any better four musicians who compliment each other like STP.
Purple, what a beast of an album. As a teenager at the time I was hooked on the whole grunge scene and would fall asleep listening to music in my discman, wow I feel old. I never tire of listening to this as well as Core. Ironically, Big Empty is my least favorite of the album despite it charting well as a single. So many killer riffs, and Scott taking it the next level with his obscure lyrics and incredible voice. Man, the 90's were the best
Watched you guys perform Purple in its entirety last Wednesday in Tampa. It was fantastic - what a treat!!! While I miss Scott too, Jeff is THE perfect compliment in his absence and is an amazing dinger in his own right. Your albums with him hold up to everything prior and is in my standard rotation with all your albums.
I met the DeLeo Brothers in Pittsburgh when they were in Army of Anyone. They were extremely down to Earth. And then… they proceeded to melt my face off when they took the stage. Their groove along with Ray’s drumming and Richard’s voice were mesmerizing. I can’t even explain the feeling of them play Hey Man Nice Shot. I still get chills.
I did not know STP were back... I have just realized a couple of weeks ago with this video. I thought they were not going to continue after Scott´s passing. Scott was such a great performer, entertainer, showman, frontman...; one of the best, I liked him with STP, Velvet Revolver, and also in his solo album with the Wildabouts. Nevertheless, watching and listening to this Purple live session (and also to the Core live session) I have realized how good the other original three STP guys are. I knew they were all amazing as a whole, but now even without Scott. About the new guy, Jeff Gutt, who I did not know, fits perfectly. He nails every note and even has some resemblance with Scott. If this video had been titled with 2012 instead of 2020 it would have been difficult for me to differentiate between the two. For the past two weeks, I have been listening to their 2018 self titled album and Perdida (2020) and these are two huge albums too. I don´t know how I could not know all of this sooner (it is unforgivable)... Scott would be really proud. Long live STP. Wishing to see them live.
Yeah man I agree with everything you say. Weiland was something else in his prime but I’m a big fan of DeLeo brothers (huge fan of Dean). Just Happy they are playing together
I didnt know STP was playing again or had a new singer, Scott was phenomenal but this guy definitely is getting the job done, which is saying a lot! Awesome to see them still playing!
I honestly thought this was Scott. I was cooking breakfast for my kids and old lady while watching this and smoking the devils lettuce. I was singing along and I kept catching “Scott” out of the corner of my eye and I was thinking, “This must be near the end of his life. He looks so different but he still has that shoulder-wiggling dance move.”
i wanna say a buncha things.... sound is amazing. glad that this was done. hurts that scott wasn't singing here. stp deserves far more accolades for (quietly) being the best band of the 90s. how did i not see this sooner?
1994. OJs Bronco was on our televisions, Pulp Fiction was in theaters, Cobain died, Barry Sanders was running wild for the Lions, and this album was a smash hit.
With the exception of Barry Sanders (not a sports guy 🙂) I too, remember all of the above, very vividly. Being strangely riveted by and watching that surreal OJ chase from beginning to end.. haha. Seeing Pulp in the theater at least four times in that month it was released. And of course, Kurt's exit was dumbfoundingly awful. And yes, this record literally pummeled and thrilled upon arrival. What a year, shit, what a decade for that matter!
A perfect album, faithfully reproduced - yet still clearly live. Brilliant energy. I’m not familiar with this replacement singer, but I appreciate how much he sounds like Scott without seeming to imitate. I love that this exists - thank you!!
Eric definitely was underrated. It’s cool that we can hear tracks on TH-cam in the raw and how they sound isolated. He had some awesome grooves throughout STPs catalog. Rick Beato channel had a few examples and the drums were massive. Brendon O’Brien was so instrumental in a lot of 90s bands.
Absolutely! Eric's extremely laid back groove and tasteful nuances (i.e. all the ghost notes on the snare in Big Empty) on all those albums and live is just as important as all the other elements but almost always overlooked.
Man, this is just epic. I really enjoyed the interludes between songs where the recording and creation process of certain tunes was explained. The editing and close ups on the musicians finally reveals some of the magic about what those mysterious chords and notes and drum fills are. Every song has been improved upon since original recording; Dean and Rob have added so many tasteful fills and I really love how Eric can hold back and build that slow tension. Jeff is incredibly respectful of Scott but is his own and always consistent vocalist hitting everything aplomb.
Saw them live last night. The best show I've ever seen by far. The entire band was fucking amazing THE ENTIRE TIME. So glad STP is still alive after Scott's passing. God bless STP and RIP Scott Weiland
I love them! You guys were the soundtrack of important moments in my life and i miss Scott. Good luck for you guys in the new carrer paths! Love from Brazil!
This is mind-blowing, I was listening mostly without watching the video and I could not believe it wasn't Scott singing! Would love to hear similar sessions for "Tiny Music" and "No. 4"!
STP is such an incredibly unique band and this album is a masterpiece, maybe even the best hard rock album of all time. Their unusual chord voicings give the songs a lush and haunting quality. Always had tremendous respect for one guitar bands that could pull off a big sound. These guys do it effortlessly, with smooth leads and big solos interspersed. Tremendous texture to their sound!
Pretty much taught myself drums to this album. Eric Kretz. The dialog between kick and snare...like funk & hip hop. So much space and reserve. Killer guitar tones. And the younger brother is the Wizard. Way to jump in for SW. A gift for all. My fav band of the era. Not Seattle.
Been so long since I listened to this album, forgot how good these songs were…So many great bands in the 90’s had albums you could listen to front to back….purple is the best of the best of those albums. This record takes you on a journey. A Musical masterpiece….lounge fly is playing as I write this!
Interstate Love Song deve ser uma das músicas que melhor representa aqueles tempos... Como vi em alguns comentários, 1994 realmente foi um grande ano para o rock... Execução perfeita dos caras para um álbum bom da primeira à última música!
He didn’t sing on ‘your’ songs….he co-wrote those songs. The voice is an instrument when singing and the lyrics are as important as any other part of the song.

@@gregwinter8503 agreed. He has been a quiet assassin on the drums and doesn't get the recognition he deserves.
The sound quality is impressive. I miss Scott's essence, power and theatricality but Jeff keeps up. Congratulations to Stone Temple Pilots for keeping the legend alive.
Totalmente de acuerdo, todos extrañamos a Weiland 💔 pero es maravilloso que sigan adelante y haber encontrado a Gutt, es mágico ❤
Stp eternamente 🔥
Yeah but not really...he wears an iWatch, really ? Weiland wouldn't have never done that, always in the stage. Sucks! I enjoy it anyway
@@raverave4667lol. I just noticed that. 100%!
@@raverave4667He might be wearing an iWatch but come on, he did paint his nails and throw some shades on 🤣. Joking aside, I’m a huge Scott fan but there’s no denying this is a solid performance by Jeff.
Kitchenware & Candybars such an underrated song. One of the best outro songs ever!
It's my fave. Could have been a single for sure.
The second album...
12 gracious melodies❤️ haha haha
This is one of the best things I've ever watched on TH-cam in 15 years.
Robert DeLeo is a musical genius. They just missed the hidden track.
Just "12 gracious melodies".
STP and AIC my two fav bands growing up as a young teen. Absolutely amazing sound.
Soundgarden also ,yes?!!!!
I feel your pain... absolutely what's crazy my son is in his 20s and his favorites as well. His first show was in April 2002. Jerry Cantrell/ STP
Almost exclusively, STP and AIC. Enjoy these as they bring me back, and make me feel old
Dirt and Purple are incredible albums.
Same
I miss Scott so much.........
We all 😢
This mix sounds incredible. Eric's drums sound soooooo good.
If I had the ability to play like ANY bass player in the world, it would be Robert DeLeo. Everything about his style I wish I could emulate.
Rick Beat has a great interview with Robert I just watched
I was 18 when Purple came out Now I`m 47 and this is still one of the coolest albums. Made me appreciate not just hard rock but also Blues, folk and country.
Same here! STP were responsible for introducing me to a lot of different genres, especially on Tiny Music.
I always felt so much jazz in stp , the chords so jazzy , and robert deleo bass has got that jazz grove
I was 13 and bought the cassette when it came out I fell asleep every night to this great album.
One of the GREATEST albums of the 90s. Still holds up today…and this live performance is SO GOOD! Thanks for sharing.
Hah! Good to see you here.
Yes and Not even close. Can you guess in which order I mean that in.,? No Scott Weiland = No STP. Face facts and just move along with your record collection. Simple as that.
@@deanpesaturo6401I see all these comments about how STP died with Scott Weiland. If you don’t like it so much then why are you listening to this?
@@deanpesaturo6401 Jackass comment. The DeLeo brothers and Kretz are just as much STP as Weiland was. We love Scott, but he made his choices. Jeff has honored Scott and the catalogue incredibly.
Ha! Not somewhere I'd expect to see you, MJR.
Love you sumbeeshes!
I am not a fan of replacing great talent like Scott, but honestly this dude is a perfect fit, great job. And keeping the songs alive, and Scotts memory alive, Really cool!!
This singer does an awesome job. The DeLeo brothers and Eric Kretz are always what made me like STP.
Insanely talented band. Eric is a criminally underrated drummer. The brothers are both killing it. Jeff Gutt does a great job.
Wow, the new lead singer is a gift. I think Scott would be proud.
A band that got better with every album, explored so many avenues with each one , forever one of my biggest influences STP ❤❤
MFn Rock n Roll 🤙🏽
You rock for saying that!! Thank you
I'll never forget when Number 4 was released. in a CD store, some dudes said, eww that sucks! I bought it anyway, and wow
Better? Worse in my opinion... Two albums good, very good but then... 👎
*Yes, they could.*
@@JerichoFPSScott did say he poured his heart and soul into Happy in Galoshes. There was an extended edition with another disc thrown in that he recommended. He said it was one of his career highlights working with Steve Albini(RIP). Jimmy Page is having an impossible time finding a producer to finish his latest project that doesn’t want residuals/back end points. I told him to hit up Kelly Deal.
🥳THIS WAS THE BEST 50 MINUTES OF THE YEAR💎🪞👗👠📿💄👜🌹🌉❤️♾️
All these years and I can still sing along with every song. This album got lots of playtime back in college. Miss you Scott!
1994 was such an *unbelievable* year for music. This album (which is perfect, front to back)…Dookie, Jar of Flies, Superunknown, Dream Theater’s Awake, Cracked Rear View…it’s almost like a classic album was getting released on a weekly basis…
Therapy? Troublegum as well! 90s classic. Worth a listen if you've never heard it.
Agreed! but you should also check out ALL the movies that came out in 1994 too! what an insane year to be alive! i was only 4...but i certainly remember listening to this stuff with my dad haha
Awake is a great great album
@@mindmeld12345
Definitely…Now and then, I go through phases where it’s my favorite Dream Theater album
Don't forget about Nirvana's Live in New York. The early 90's have a megaload of amazing albums.
Yea..they were unjustifiably called pearl jam ripoffs..though they could hold a candle of their own
@@sanjaykale6235 Yeah, Pearl Jam was largely a jam band that was super good at it and had Eddie Vedder.
But they had so many little accents in their band, from classic rock to jazz to ragtime. It blows my mind that they called copycats. Fckn critics/gatekeepers. They sucked back then, too.
HOLY CRAP DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M 48 YEARS OLD, IM STUDYING FOR MY STRUCTURES FINAL, MY WIFE AND KIDS ARE ASLEEP AND I FEEL LIKE A DINOSAUR IN A SEA OF WOKE CULTURE AND MUSIC I CAN'T RELATE TO, TIRED OF DIGGING FOR GOOD MUSIC AND THIS POPS UP?!!!!!! I'm sure most good bands from 30 years ago are what you consider Woke or at least are leftist
I'm 48. The soundtrack of our lives!
Right with you I'm 53, this music brings back good memories
Purple is a masterpiece. I read lots of different debates about greatest albums of this genre but fery few rise to the same level of amazingly great across the entire track list as this one. RIP Scott.
Fucking masterpiece! Purple has to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time. I can't think of any better four musicians who compliment each other like STP.
Scott was massive, unreachable. We arguably agree on that. But This guy, Jeff Gutts, has definitely balls...
Same brother! 💯
Right there with you. Didn't know how good we really had it at the time.
AIC + Soundgarden + Them would fill my cup in the mid 90's
This album means more than I can put into words. So I won’t even try. Just thank you.
Same here man.
I grew up listening to STP. Hearing it done with respect to Scott Weiland and absolutely ROCKED makes my heart whole. I get it, man.
Geez did they go out of their way to find someone that looks like Scott?? That's freaky
I bet that was fucking amazing. I remember the AoA stuff. It wasn't half bad as these guys with Richard were just amazing musicians.
@@danielramsey1418 absolutely correct. The covered some STP too. Which Richard crushed.
They played in my hometown a couple years ago but I couldn't go because of work. Praying I see them somewhere nearby soon.
Really like that the new singer kept the vocalisations the same style - respect
He really is so damned good.
He does!! @@Pinkycarruthers
Yup, really captured the nasal singing style that Scott had. But Scott had so many. He was like a chameleon. Had a different voice in every album.
I like the fact that the band has stated that Jeffs act is a tribute to scott and chester
Go see him on stage and then see what you think 🤔
Long live STP!!! One of best's rock ever written and played
I didnt know STP was playing again or had a new singer, Scott was phenomenal but this guy definitely is getting the job done, which is saying a lot! Awesome to see them still playing!
We saw them about 4 years ago with new lead singer. Highly recommend you go. Some songs just had tears in my eyes
I honestly thought this was Scott. I was cooking breakfast for my kids and old lady while watching this and smoking the devils lettuce. I was singing along and I kept catching “Scott” out of the corner of my eye and I was thinking, “This must be near the end of his life. He looks so different but he still has that shoulder-wiggling dance move.”
nor did I, we keep getting surprised in our older age.
Yes. He's an excellent singer. Without him, we wouldn't have great performances like this one anymore.
i wanna say a buncha things....
sound is amazing.
glad that this was done.
hurts that scott wasn't singing here.
stp deserves far more accolades for (quietly) being the best band of the 90s.
how did i not see this sooner?
I'm a month later than you😅
The new singer is great!
Scott is still alive...in the music that lives on. Thank you Jeff for giving it your all. Vasoline hit and could hear Scott in spirit in you.
So well said, my friend!!!
Agreed
He really is killing it. Thank you, Jeff!
Oh man.. didn't expect to find this performance, pure gold. Love STP!
I lived or experienced the 1990s, full throttle, had my bout with the drugs, I'm way older, but I'm now sober, but listening brings me back.Damn
1994. OJs Bronco was on our televisions, Pulp Fiction was in theaters, Cobain died, Barry Sanders was running wild for the Lions, and this album was a smash hit.
It's a damn shame i was only 4 years old what a year
That’s crazy! I remember all of that like it was yesterday, which doesn’t make it feel like that was 30 years ago.
I heard of oj when I was 10why not sto
Kretz kills. Without that fn groove, I don't know that we'd have ever heard of these guys. GREAT engineering btw, give that person a raise!
Eric was awesome...!!!!
1st time I've seen any rock drummer play with those A&F drums - massive sound.
Such a great groove that guy has. That feel helped make this album such an all time monster. One of my desert island albums.
I'm confused it is Scott singing? Is it not
No man, it's Jeff Gutt!
I wonder why they didn't do one for Tiny Music
i want Nºo 4
Give 'em time ☺️
As a old rocker from Michigan, I salute you brother. Big shoes to fill but you make them fit. Proud of you.
Best hard rock band around…period.
One of my favorite rhythm sections… just an overall superb band.
Absolutely! They are so tight. It's flawless.
Then whe Scott died...the whole genre of music went with him
This is terrific! The DeLeo brothers are so good.
Jeff shows respect for Scott by presenting the songs in his way but makes it his own also. Robert is one of my favorite bassists for good reason. ❤
Amazing live performance!!!
Miss Scott and miss Chester. Jeff is great and doing a great job! 🙌🏻👏🏻
I forget for a brief moment how badass this drummer is. He’s. A BADASS
Eric? Oh yes!
Been so long since I listened to this album, forgot how good these songs were…So many great bands in the 90’s had albums you could listen to front to back….purple is the best of the best of those albums. This record takes you on a journey. A Musical masterpiece….lounge fly is playing as I write this!
I always remember i was 15 when tiny gifts came out i had a grass cuttin job , that tape got played front to back
This one and Dirt. Although Dirt takes you on a hellish journey
Spent many nights driving around the back roads of my hometown listening to this album when it came out. One of the best albums and bands of all time. Thanks for posting this!
