It's definitely still possible. I'm a bit older than you but I live in Nebraska and have been to Canada twice already (my family's not rich either). Any chance you can set up a video chat with his parents and you/your parents or something? That's how my sister convinced our parents and her online friend's parents to let them travel to meet up.

I made a big group of friends when I was 13 playing mine craft, they were all over the us and I’m in Canada, this last year, about 8 years later we all met up! And you don’t even have to cross a border and get a passport to meet him, it’ll totally happen one day

Yeah, it's not even about the money. Such scammers don't understand they do the whole tourism industry not really a favor. People might decide to not visit country X again cause of such experiences. It's very short sighted and egocentric behavior.

It was New York City. To find a scummy POS, it's like reaching into a bag of M&Ms candies and looking for one colored blue. One of the worst places you could ever visit, and even worse to live. It's so bad that sometimes people develop "imposter syndrome", where they don't feel like they belong among the people who are conditioned to the scum culture.

Syrmor's latest short film takes even further strides into the future as they transition from virtual settings to real life shots. This short film is a tale of sorrow and perhaps even the occult as Syrmor uses his classic method of diametrical opposition to highlight themes that are somehow on the surface yet require so much digging to find. Throughout this masterpiece, Syrmor makes several critiques of society and discusses many shortcomings mankind.
The first few seconds of this short film sets the scene entirely. The narrator makes note of the use of substances to artificially alter someone's state of mind. I have made note of this in my previous deconstructional analyses, but Syrmor seems to have evolved the usage of this method. Originally, the use of this theme was to highlight the idea of unlocking the full potential of oneself. In this case, it seems as if illicit substances are used in order to cope with some unbearable dread.
We see the subjects of this short film performing karaoke in a dark room with swirling lights. Again, I believe that this is to further advance the notion of coping. Dark rooms often symbolize dark emotions, and I believe there is something similar at play here. However, there are also brighter lights swirling around -- making a presence in the darkness, but only making futile attempts to eradicate it. These lights symbolize the use of illicit substances. Like the lights, attempting to use substances to artificially create happiness is ultimately futile. This scene continues for a decent amount of time, sometimes cutting to some ocean scenery. This adds to the darkness by coupling it with the deep, endlessness of the ocean. In this dark room, we see a character that I believe is some form of evil personified, but I will return to this point later in this analysis.
There is a significant amount of narrative applied to this short film, which I believe is to add to the facade of happiness that is alluded to in the beginning of this short film (which is introduced in the form of singing). However, there is mentions of small-town life versus city life. The narrator mentions that there are more options for those living in the city -- such as food and stores that are open later. I believe this is a reference to the hedonism that many people attempt to partake in so that they can fill some sort of hole in their heart. This whole, ironically, is caused by being surrounded by people in a city. We see this theme everyone -- someone moves to the city in order to make a better life but is ultimately made lonelier. The amount of people moving by who simply ignore each other is often overwhelming for people not already numb to the loneliness. I will presume people ignore each other in these situations due to the societal disconnect that has been growing in the past couple of decades.
Syrmor then returns to his classic virtual setting in order to highlight another aspect of his critique of society. He brings in the military character from previous short films to discuss more stories from his life in the military. Essentially, the point of this excerpt is to highlight the failure of society. People have strayed far enough from the path to not accept two people exchanging a compliment and response. This is because we are unable to remove ourselves from technology -- even with threat of prison.
We are then brought to reality to discuss another shortcoming of humanity. There is no deep underlying meaning to the story of the scam, but I believe that the juxtaposition of the jovial music in the background alludes to the facade of happiness that is making brief peaks throughout this short film.
Later on, we observe the characters deconstructing pumpkins as a part of the traditional Halloween ritual. There is a brief shot of a black cat on the screen. I believe that this is an occult reference, a foreshadowing of items brought forth later in this short film.
In this next scene, the audience is brought to a dark presence. A man with dead eyes, a deadpan voice, and unkept hair is discussing a time in which he harassed a group of Catholic students. There is a mention that this man is the devil, which might seem as a joke on the surface. However, I believe that this is a use of irony or overt sarcasm. Syrmor must have cast this man with a devil-esque character in mind. The use of this character and this story is another criticism of society that states we have grown too soft on those who would intentionally afflict harm on people. Next, our main character discusses how the devil-esque character grew from scary to friendly. I believe this might be a continuation of this theme.
The devil-esque character begins to open some sort of gift in the next scene. There are heavy hints of homoeroticism in this section. I believe that this might be another use of Syrmor's diametrical opposition method. Previously, this character represented evil. However, I believe that this scene is used to satirize the belief that homosexuality is evil, and therefore make a statement that it is NOT evil, but something to be accepted.
Finally, the ending presents us with several scenes in which the narrator discusses the loneliness I previously discussed. The final scene brings the viewer to the familiar room they saw in the beginning -- the dark room with swirling lights. This time, there is a song discussing the world being burnt up. I believe that this ties several themes of the short film into one vessel. The loneliness and sadness of being alone are represented by the darkness, the futile use of substances is represented by the lights, and the disdain of society is represented by the song.
These three themes are also reflected in a Tool song -- "Sober" from Tool's "Undertow" album in particular. Here is a selection of the most relevant lyrics: "Why can we not be sober? / I just want to start things over / Why can't we sleep forever? / I just want to start this over"
The narrator of this song simply wants to be sober, and for society to be restarted (or ended, depending on your interpretation). I believe that this might be a reflection of this short film's narrator's thoughts.

After their gone, you have an never ending sinking feeling of sadness and loneliness and you just want to lay on the ground and do nothing until their back.
I bet you have that feeling right now Syrmor.
Itz.Jefff same i really feel that, my friend lives thousands of miles away but the worst part is that she comes to my town every summer (her dad lives here) and i hate saying goodbye, it sucks so much
I wonder what that is like. I have never actually said goodbye to anyone of my friend yet. At least not a meaningful one xD.
That's why you just don't make any friends :) Then that problem will never come
just discord
I met my friend few months ago and spent time togetherfor literally two days. We write eachother constantly but i still miss her :'(
It's incredible the people and stories you find, Syrmor.
10:07 $540 wtf. We need to get this man some money back.
emanandchill bump
Surprised that this is the only comment about that I could find. I wish we could track down the fucker who pulled that shit
Yeah that's awful... I would send him funds through gofundme
@@fuckusingfullname I know right.
@@miunya that's kind. Thanks for your concern.
One of the most wholesome things I have ever seen, just goes to show how gamers can connect, even if they are across the world! This is the kind of stuff I'm excited to do when I'm an adult. :3
I love you Jae!!
This video is fucking amazing, They always taught us that Strangers are Danger, but in fact, this and The channel under the name of Yes Theory changed the whole concept, Strangers are friends, and they could be best friends and even families. Thanks for bringing the bright smile back to my face the whole video man.
Apart from strangers who charge you $540 for a taxi ride.
"large peepee" "oh sick thanks bro, yeah appreciate it" lol never heard any story like it.
Ohh this is so cute and interesting. Very angry to hear about that taxi situation but glad to know that the visit was fun and probably something neither if you will forget.
his singing at the beginning made me so happy i was fighting back tears :')
It really hit me when you said "Nobody tells you how hard it is to make friends when you become an adult."
I graduated earlier this year and oh man, It's just been work sleep eat repeat, and I've progressively lost every one of my high school friends over the months.
Along the lines of what you said with how you "Have to plan everything weeks in advanced." and these people just didn't understand that. People would cancel plans we had or expect me to be somewhere with a Day's notice when I'd literally be halfway across the state working on a scope job. I got angry that they could just expect me to do that, and dropped them, or they dropped me.
Now I only have two "friends" from high school, one lives upstate and we rarely keep in contact, the other just sends me memes and we never really talk outside of that. This video touched me, I'll try to manage if I can meet some of my close internet friends so they'll no longer be considered internet friends.
I totally get that. I'm still in high school, but I go to college and I work 60 hours a week. I keep getting invites from one of my three friends to hang out on the weekend, but she asks on Friday. I work everyday! I need some damn notice.
I would kiss him on the cheek
