I remember my dad trying to buy one of these in 1971. Dealer couldn't sell it for $4500. I remember my dad talking about having them take the "ridiculous" nose off.
@@reddmendoza6765 Several dealers took the aero stuff off of those cars and made them stock Chargers because the aero versions didn't sell too well at all.
You know, there’s a million ways to look at it. Back in the day, what I call regular people bought these cars to drive and enjoy. What I mean by regular people, are people that wasn’t wealthy. We bought these cars to go to work on the morning, get off work drive around with no where in particular to go. Ride around listening to the radio, and more than that. Listening to the sound of the car, and thinking about how beautiful this car was. You always admired other cars and wanted a chance to blow the doors off of it. It’s not rich people’s fault that l’m not rich. The only difference is, if I had the money to have one of these, I would be out driving em like they were meant to be driven. Not sitting in a garage waiting for the next car show. Most of the the people that are like me,”regular” people actually love these cars. We didn’t look at em as a investment. I know a lot of the people, you know the people with money that love em too fall in another category. They had when they were young, and can afford em again. Or maybe they loved back in the day and couldn’t afford em then, and now they can. Yes,for whatever reason, the rich people have em now, but the “regular” people have something most of them will never have. A lifetime of “Memories”. Sorry about the Book. Well, not really.
Agreed, I paid $1,800.00 for my Stage 1 Buick GSX car #125 in 1980, before they were sought after collector cars. Sold it to pay for my mom's nursing home care...
So true.I was lucky and bought a 71 Pontiac GrandPrix in 1988,I am the second owner,it had 28,000 miles on it when I got it.For three years the car was used to haul my drums to every gig I played ,bass drum fit in that trunk like a glove. My first son was born in 93,he came home in The Pontiac,in 95 my second son was born and The Pontiac came off the road and into the garage,52,000 miles were now on the car.It was always garage kept and I have always maintained it to be road ready. In 2005 we put it back on the road, been driving it every nice day since, now has 72,000 miles on it,original paint, motor, and special order bench seat , found the build sheet under back seat.Car is in such good shape,I did the right thing and just love this car, about to drive out to eastern Long Island in about an hour, love the sound of that 400 / 4 barrel starting up. Gotta Go Now !!!
The difference between those muscle cars and my muscle cars. I can drive my muscle cars, do burnouts, not be afraid to drive them and wear my shoes in them. I am not afraid of my cars.
There was a guy in Atlanta Ga in 1980 drove a blue one Daly $10:000 motor in a rusty body. He could not afford to buy a beater daily driver. Have no idea what happened to it.
People with more money than they got sense. If I can't drive and enjoy it I don't want it. Northing lasts forever not even the rocks and these won't either.
amazing how people went nuts over this and the Plymouth winged car, i remember when the superbird came out we all knew it was made from the cheapest belvedere plymouth produced, cheap ass interior, plastic shit everywhere, the model a salesman might buy. they claim they used coronet front fenders, never sure on that, and made up that long nose and big ass wing and put a big engine in it. still a worthless piece of shit car, didn't handle well and uncomfortable to even sit in. don't believe me, go find an old ply or dodge and get in one, same fucking car.
Raise the hood on the Hemi Daytona you fools....geeezzzz
Man in 1973 and 74 you could not give these cars away with the gas shortage and the high price of gas hitting a dollar a gallon 😂

RIGHT ON!!!
My neighbor drove a white with red wing Daytona in 1969...
He lived on Ponce Lane Cincinnati Ohio 45238
My art teacher at Taylor Elementary (Mrs. Duquette) drove a baby blue deuce roadster with moon caps. Talk about cool...
That was 45239
I drove a 1973 Datsun 510 in 2018
I drove a nail in some sheet rock.
I'm sittin here looking at my 1/18 scale yellow charger Daytona with the HEMI , wonder what this might be worth ?
outstanding. a quality-built accurate 1/18 model is a great way to own your dream car. some of them are not cheap.

You probably have multiple DUI's and have to ride the bus back and forth from your suckass job at Taco Bell.
The car is at 6:01. if you can't wait.

I would love to know the 'Shade of Yellow' of that Daytona for my next Model Build!!
Y3
Probably Sunfire Yellow.
I think it's called Baby Crap !
@@SoaringEagle1 Thank You for that.
@@vincentenk4449 Thank You for that.
where is the daytona today ?
Those wheel covers really let that car down despite their being correct.
I can't understand one word from the auctioneer is saying...
He said "Sold"
Why is this "one of one" ? Did dodge put the Hemi in only one Daytona? Since that's not possible, why is this Daytona unique?
Yellow?

I always thought auctioneers were saying real words when they are talking fast. Learn something new every day! Not even close!
so that's how dana mecum looked 15 years ago....
was he sick at some point? big difference...
Not really... it's just the difference between being 56 and 71.
I think that was Joe Dirt's car.
Dirt's car was root beer
Mark Warman of Grave Yard cars built a 1 of 1 GTX Convertible for Bill Goldberg ! Imagine what that cost ! 🤔
I filmed that right here. th-cam.com/video/J6w8WtBwF3M/w-d-xo.html
Give a hundred dollars cash right now !
I'd be mad like a mofo if some clown smoked my cluch like that dude did in that red 'Vette! Unless it was only a door stop in the 1st place!
What made this car 1 of 1?
I think it was the combination of engine, shifter, and color.
What's wrong with you people? Always raise the hood on the hemmi
I guess the Daytona didn't sell or meet the sellers price. Probably doesn't run either.
A yabba Dabba doooo and Scooby Doo to. Sold
Mecum auctions were low budget back then Guess that was before they starting screwing Byers and sellers for 10% each
It was before their deal with CNBC for sure. I was literally on stage.
Probably one of the worst looking cars ever made
Beautiful AERODYNAMICS! The first to 200mph on a closed course.
Really cool,,,but that color is awful!!!
