Omg I just noticed how "bring all the boys in" can have a double meaning. I have noticed how accents can sometimes give a second meaning to phrases or words in this musical. Let me show you one example:
"So what? The makeup contains lead poison
at least your complexion will bring all the boys in".
Now, retranscribed with the "German" accent and more phonetically =>
"At least your complexion will bring all ze [b/p]oizin".
Go and have a listen, you'll notice that it seems like a German person is pronouncing poison. Therefore, as well as bringing the boys in, your complexion will also bring you all the poison.
It is not the first time that accents indue a second meaning in SIX. I will soon start my work as the first French translator of this musical for my master's thesis. I am studying Dutch and English literature and linguistics with a specialisation in translation (also had a minor in German). It is so important I manage to translate into French as many of the original messages hidden in this work. These are the kinds of things I keep learning about despite having listened to these songs a hundred times already. I love this musical and its incredible writing.
I hope to someday bring this musical to live in the French speaking community!
