Am I the only one who, if he finds the perfect boot, will buy several pairs because he knows that in 2 years they won't exist and be impossible to find and have several back-ups?
traderjoes I wish I would have done that with a pair of Chippewas, loved them had two pairs went to buy the third... No longer in production. Haven't found a great replacement yet, some good ones but not a great one
I know someone who stepped on a 1/2"crown staple with sneakers on.The glue from the sneaker construction was pushed up into his foot,long story short he ended up having surgery to scrape the infection off the bone in his foot that was degrading from infection.Good boots are a true value in the long run.
The Diehards today are NOT the Diehards of the 80's and 90's. They are Chinese junk that the soles disintegrate and crumble especially in the Florida UV & Heat. The sad thing is that the beautiful reddish brown leather of the 1980's Diehards has swung full circle to the fake noggahyde look of the cheap K-Mart boots you started wearing. Probably because K-Mart married Sears... Agreed those 8" Moc Toe boots were the classic look of the nineteen hundreds
My Papaw wore the Redwing boots everyday from the time I was old enough to remember until he passed. His lasted many years (especially the uppers) but, as you said, different use! For the majority of my life he was "retired" which meant he farmed and raised cattle and catfish. Funny how those old Redwings are an image that will always stick with me, and any time I see someone with a similar pair, I think of him.
I own 2 pairs that I alternate daily. Best boots I've ever owned and I would put them on par with red wings for 60% of the price for a comparable boot.
The enightenment of my shoe buying was when I discovered plastic glue on toe caps. Bought them 6 at a time. Allowed my toe scrapeing and didn't cost me a new pair of steel toed work boots. Vibran soles....always

I Love my Red Wing's. Tractor supply makes this glue on rubber toe protector. They work great and last 6months or better. They are under $5.00 and I still have my 5 year old red wing work boots. Plus I have steel toes too for logging and such with these same protection thingys.. there awesome.
Wait, people frame in your area while wearing something without a hard toe cap? I can't imagine being on a job site without a hard toed boot. A good leather boot with ablative patches glued on over the most common scuff areas isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but they sure are useful and can last awhile.
Red Wing 877's are a great boot. However, in order to get the best boot, you MUST be certain you are getting the "heritage" series boot. They make two different qualities of boot, that look the same, but are far from the same quality. Also, red Wing has what they call the "work boot sole". It has the look of the waffle sole, but has a hard rubber layer on the bottom, just like sears die hard boot. The rubber layer makes the sole last three times longer, at least. In the correct configuration, of the heritage series 877, and the work boot sole, you can't get a better moc toe 8" work boot. Just my opinion.
I sold hundreds of pairs of those moc toe boots in the early 1960's while working at Kinney Shoes in high school. The stock number was 834. Great boots and good memories. Thanks for reminding me.
Redwing, Minnesota just down 20 miles down the Mississippi river from my grandfather's apple orchard in Prescott, WI. We all wore Redwing boots back in the 70s.
I’m I’m in hvac and I’m supposed to wear steel toes but I found I open up the toes in 2 months I accidentally got or should I say my boss got me some regular toed boots before we went to a job and it’s been two years now with no damage good as new
As a marine technician I've settled on 6" Timberland Pro comp toe boots. Not too bad on price, waterproof, and I put some Dr Scholl's heavy duty insoles in them which makes em comfortable to wear every day
not donn play your boot choice, every man wears the boots that fit and wear well for him. i wear red wings they fit my feet very well and hold up to what i put them through this why i wear them. does not mean that other boots are not good i have a friend that wears danner boots. it all boils down to what fits your feet and hold up well for the work you do this is how i look at boots. thank you for the video.
That's a good price. I have a pair of RW 899s that were my first boot once I stopped growing. I've had them for about 4 years now, and I just had my first set of eyelets installed. The lower is fine, the sole still has tread, but the tongue is getting pretty beat. I never really liked the crepe soles, but I guess they have their place. I try to oil them monthly or every other month, which I think is one of the most under discuessed but most important aspects of a boot.
+1 on Viberg, 10 years on mine, full resole a couple years ago for 60 bucks. Cost 400 plus new. Hurts a bit at the time but seems like a bargain now...
HI, I like your videos. My personal favorite work boot is the red wing 2414. They are expensive but they hold up for me 2-3 years depending on the work I do and how well I take care of them.
I work for the navy in Hawaii and used to be issued black work boots that were issued to the Sailors. Loved those boots. No longer available but I'd buy them if I could in a second.
I am a true believer in a good shoe. I am not married to a certain brand but as I have heard a man say spend the most money on your boots and your bed because if your not in one your in the other. This is so true. As a farmer and greenhouse owner if you walk as many miles a day as I do you better stay in a good boot or your feet will haunt you. Really enjoyed this video.
Have cruised timber for 45 years - your leather moc toe recommendations are spot on - soles are easy on your feet & light weight. 2 things are boot gospel to me (1) Never, ever buy a boot without lacing hooks - a must. (2) Don't spend big bucks on high dollar oils - rub toilet wax rings into the leather & use a blow dryer to melt deep into the leather.
Do you get new or used wax rings? :-) What you wear depends on what you're doing. Spent a good portion of my career working around welding and cutting operations, a boot without laces is better for that, nothing to catch the hot slag. Ever had a piece of molten slag get in your boot, you'll want to get them off FAST, laces get in the way, a few seconds can be the difference between a minor burn and being out of work for a few days.
Oh, my word! Jim was a rancher who drove a school bus. Neil was a well-known jazz drummer who owned Dixonville store with his wife and drove school bus, our route to be exact. Both those guys made sure the bus was safe- there was no bullying on their buses-ever! The Hatfield's flower garden every year with the date? Betty and Doris-what women. There's nothing wrong with wearing sneakers on the job site I guess, but TO ME wearing a beat up pair of tennis shoes just gives off that 'scummy drugged out construction worker' vibe to me. Boots just look the part, and its nice to stomp through puddles without a care sometimes. And when walking through dirt and terrain it feels like driving a turbodiesel vs a Honda Civic. When I'm wearing my boots I know I can walk through damn near anything without worry.

Well you may be right about peoples individual entrenchment with politics, religion, and work boots, but I got to tell you after 20 or so years working as a carpenter I've gone through 7 pairs of boots in total. And each progressive pair ended up costing more and more money, not because of the relative cost of the boots themselves, but I started purchasing better quality boots, after all if I'm going to be on my feet and in my boots 8 to 13 hours a day, you bet the farm I want to take care of my feet. Here's the kicker, and not to say that Canada doesn't have or make a good quality boot, and god knows I've tried to find a pair made right here in Canada, but my last three pairs have been Georgia Giants work boots, and by last pair cost me $320.00 Canadian but they are worth every damn penny, I ended up getting a pair of Georgia Giants Amplitude WP&CT rated, and by far - they are the best boots I've ever owned. Mind you they're no longer made in the USA which is sad, because my first two pairs were.
I wear Survivors by Herman. They are cheap $46 from Walmart. They last only a year and a half but, I can wear them all day on a hike, if needed, the day I get them. AND they are steel toe!
I tried to like Red Wing. Three pair worth of different styles if memory serves me. Expensive lesson to learn that I do not care for them. Sears... Hate to say it but that company's days are numbered. Danner boots have been my work boot of choice for quite a while now, but still have their shortcomings. My daily driver have been Ariat's forever. When a pair wear out I always try on other brands but every time the Ariat fits me the best.
I ware Dunlop safety trainers for carpentry and drywall work. Safety wellies when I'm in the trenches. Cant see the point in anything inbetween. Dont get why they even make boots without toe caps . Cant legally ware them on site. The health and safety guy send you home . Or worce he dousnt something happens and you cant claim because you didn't have correct ppe .
a boot that comes with a GOOD insole is hard to come by. if you find a boot with a decent insole that happens to last about as long as the boot lasts, that's a huge win
I wear a size 16 and it's a nightmare trying to find a brand that fits. I bought some Timberlands and they almost put me I a wheelchair. They are the most uncomfortable boot under the sun. I have tried several other brands including Doc Martin but amazingly, my New Balance running shoes have lasted me longer than any boot. Granted, I have put many a nail through the sole, but I have had them for 4 years and they are finally giving up the ghost. Next pair of work shoes will undoubltely be New Balance trail shoes. Everyone has told me that Red Wing are the most comfortable but I can't get past the hideous color and design.
Honestly, as someone who goes through about 2 pairs of boots every 18 months, I think you just need to buy a higher quality product. Timberlands are basically a fashion brand now. So are Docs. Depending on the type of work you do, you need to get a quality (not fashionable) product. Boot brands I have worn and trust include Keen, Red Wing, and Ariat. I wear Salomon hiking boots just for hiking. Right now I have been wearing Ariat western style boots with a safety toe. Amazingly comfortable and durable, but I've decided I miss wearing lace-ups, so I think next time I'll be back to wearing Red Wings or Keens.
Try a pair of Ariat "workhog" boots. I'll never go back to anything else. Just get past the fact they look like cowboy boots they will be the best investment you make hands down.
see if Danner has something in your size. general rule of thumb is if it's a stitch down it's made in the USA, if it's a glue down it's foreign made - general rule
My first came from K Mart we used them around cattle which ate them in a couple months...later on working in the shop I wore Carolina 8" for several years until they stopped making the ones I wore..I used Browning Feather lite boots for hunting and Redwings for working..Cherokee logger boots for Wildland Firefighting...Then I discovered Red Dawgs by Baileys...now I use their 10" logger boot and 8" work boots...I always use vibram soles....
I've worn romeos that have had the crepe soles they didn't last that long, but I wore romeos that have the good year welt, back in 2000 I bought my first pair of Viberg boots they are hand made work boots similar to Whites. At that time they were 350 dollars. Once you go to a hand made boot you don't ever go back, 17 years later I still wear hand made vibergs. Takes nearly 2 months of daily wear to break in a new pair of 151X Vibergs which I'm 1 month in. They've gone up in price their now 550 dollars but well worth it I get 2 years before they need resole. I'm in excavating I need a tough boot I'm walking on rough ground or I'm in mud etc. There is a work boot for every purpose would I wear 151x boots in house construction? nope too heavy and stiff
No steel toe? Crazy! I install ductwork in residential new construction and service furnaces and air conditioners. I found a boot that I could 1-afford and 2- were very comfortable, 10 years ago. Dakota quad comfort 6" boot. Steel toe steel shank. Available at Marks work warehouse. Great boot. Purchased 10 pairs in 10 years. Hopefully Have another 20 pair in my future!
I am an all-around Tradesmen Plumbing HVAC rough-in and finish carpentry concrete work you name it I'm not a Salesman I don't get kickbacks from mentioning their names but There Ariat. I've been in the same boot for over a year-and-a-half and I've only worn down about 60% of the Soul of the boot, there pull on steel-toed incredibly comfortable long lasting and most of all most important they protect me from heel to about 10 inches up. I would send a picture of them along with the receipt if I knew how to do so in a comment. Fantastic boots for construction use whether you're on the ground in a ditch doing brickwork laying down subfloor or on a roof. I would recommend these boots to anyone I've been using them for over 6 years they're a bit pricey at the beginning around $150 per pair but the protection and the longevity of the boot versus your typical store bought foot attire is well worth the money. I've had the Timberland powerwelt I've had the Red Wings I've had Walmart survivors and a lot more heavy name brand boots such as Durango but none have stood up to ariat. Sorry but I didn't pre read this comment before I sent it due to laziness and I'm tired after a long day of work so please forgive any bad punctuation. Love this Channel and take everything I can from it.
I am very very picky about my shoes and boots. I still havent found a boot that will last me more than a year. I work on the grounds crew at a golf course and i do a large variety or different jobs. I could be digging a hole/trench, cutting down or trimmimg trees, running equipment, mechanical work, etc. I have seams blow out, soles start to tear off, had one sole completly come off due to the glue melting from being on a tractor with the muffler under the footboard. Ive tried Cat, red wings, Carolina, and even some cheapy walmart/kmart boots like brahma, herman, and craftsman. Nothing can hamdle the variety and volume of work i do. Any suggestions. My requirements are 8" top with quick laces, steel or other protective toe, and waterproof. Another problem is finding a boot that meets my requirements not only for comfort (8",quick lace, waterproof) but safety.
For years I would buy the Walmart brand Brahmas Kyle boots and a new pair of Dr Scholls insoles. Boots were $29.99 and the insole $10-$15 or so. I don’t care what you spend when your in the concrete everyday boots don’t last. And I have a problem with athletes foot so I never wear rubbers or my darn feet will ROT OFF!
I have crooked foots! I have to get my boots custom made $1,200 was last pair in 1997-2000.God bless all you normal foots people that can get shoes/ boots/sandals & slippers in a local store. I feel lucky that I’m still getting around. Feet still hurt, but that’s how I know l’m alive. Just get outside and do something. If it’s wrong let someone else fix it . Lol.
I'm battling with plantar fasciitis and no matter how good I though my boots were, they still needed a special insole. Until I purchased my first set of Cat Excavator boots. I'm convinced they are doing a great job of protecting my feet and healing them; however, I'm a heavy guy and I go through insoles like crazy. I want the oem Cat insoles that come with these boots and can't find them anywhere.
No steel-toes or safety-toes?? When I worked for a corporate real-estate residential builder-developer, even us "management"-types had to wear steel-toed or equiv. with our hard-hats and safety glasses around portions of the site under-construction. Failure was a firing-offense. Even on my brother's horse-farm, I don't like being close to the horses without steel-toed Wellies. I like my original-equipment toes...
After wearing out and rolling over crepe soled work shoes I now go with "Bearpaw" low hiking shoes. They're comfortable and $25 a pair at Big 5. I go through 3-4 pair a year. I have the Thorogood crepe sole oxfords for casual wear. Red Wing US made at nearly $300 a little to rich for my blood.
Red Wing's US-made #606 is my work boot... Granted, I'm not working in a trade currently, but I get at least 5-6 years of daily wear out of a pair. I oil them a couple of times per month and when the sole finally wears through, it's time to send them in to be resoled and relegated to my "hard use" pair.

in WV, a lot of coal miners wear Matterhorn. I'm the self employed semi truck owner operator/ mechanic (and everything else that goes with operating a business) and I wear the pull on red wing Pecos style. 100% made in USA with USA materials, of course.
I am a carpenter for a municipality and they buy me one pair of boots per year. But the prob is they have to be steel toe and since I work for a municipality I do it all. I do a lot of concrete and when you catch a edge I can take a new pair of boots and after a week I'm seeing steel toe . I wish they would let us not wear steel toe cause I would be going back to my old faithful boot. I was a union carpenter back home in Vegas and my first pair of boots was Georgia boots and I'm my sweet baby Jesus those were the best boots ever. Comfortable even after 12hr days and they lasted for years. Other guys swore by red wings but they weren't that comfortable didn't last that long and they were over $250 to me that was just crazy so Georgia is the only way to go gentlemen
Great videos gentlemen, but something was wrong with the lighting. It looked liked there was a warm colored spot light mixed with a cooler spot and as he moved closer and further away from the camera the warmer tones were moving up and down his face. Quite distracting. I hate to quibble, but you've set the bar quite high. Great teaser video looking forward to the full review.
The diehard mic toe is a great boot. The boot will break down before the sole. They don’t hold a compare to my RW 10877’s at all. Not even in the same class Well worth what they cost though. Unfortunately they are made in China
Agreed. No problem with my Mac/Safari browser. Sears/Die Hard boots huh! Poor Sears. I wonder if these boots will be around much longer. I've got Craftsman tools I bought from them fifty years ago (circa 1967) that are functionally still like new. No other tools I've bought are like that. I hope the company that bought Craftsman continues that tradition.
ofc if find a good par of shoes.. you stick with them.. is dumb to try diffrent kind and risk they not feel/fit right.. and then need spend more money to buy the regular once again =) i have 2pars of same boots. they last me ~2-3years. but i take care of them polish them now and then and they last abit longer =)

Bought a pair of Red Wing boots IN Red Wing Minnesota, that had a special chemical resistant sole, that was warranted for a full year. Just before the year was up, the entire front of the boot came loose. I took them back to the store I bought them, and they repaired the boot. It held for another week, then my $200 boots were thrown in the trash. I am no longer a fan of Red Wing boots.
their quality has gone down drastically in the past decade, my previous 2 pairs (work and dress) were phenomenal. my recent work boots purchased a couple years ago, (same model number, made in usa, not their chinese line) fell apart in half the time as the previous pair.
So I've bought 4 pairs of boots in the last two months. I think I've narrowed it down to the Justin 6" top jmax, non waterproof type. I'm in Texas, heat is a factor. These 8" tops burn me up.
The only boots that half ass hold up to concrete work are rubbers. I just buy cheap boots because they last the same amount of time as the expensive ones. Ive had cheap wall mart steel toe shoes last me a whole year. Ive had expensive helly hansons last me not even a whole winter. The shoes that seem to last the longest are the non steel toed skate shoes i normally wear outside of work that end up as work shoes once they become old and worn. I figure its because theyre not steel toed so you pay more attention to whats going on around your feet. I also prefer shoes to boots for the better maneuverability. When youre walking ontop of a 9 foot wall thats 8" wide boots lack a certain sensitivity that i find makes balancing more difficulty. Just my seven cents
My old ragged-out pair of Red Wing steel-toed boots have saved my little, ugly phalanges more times that I even know. Also, I'm not sure this is standard for all but mine also had some kind of steel plate in the instep... there is no fun stepping on a rusty nail. But it did brightened my day when they would dent that thin steel plate and not skewer the tender side of my foot.
In my line of work (plating) the only boots that last or work for a damn are the rubber injection molded ones. But they are hell on your feet, even good insoles leave your feet aching and sweating more than a fat guy at the beach. Any other boot (or shoe) can be destroyed in a week easly, but cheap shoes are the norm for cost and comfort. It doesn't pay to get good boots at a plating shop.
worn a bunch, but I am on my second pair of Justin lacers. They are the ones made in America. with the thick black sole. I am getting about two and a half years a pair. Daily wear, on job sites. Not cheep but worth it to me.

Reebok work shoes are the most comfortable I have worn beside the Brooks work boots in which now I can not find now. I frame and finish (general carpenter) so I need the flexibility. But all boots fail in the toe if you are leaning on your toes.
I wore red wings for a long time then I couldn't afford them any more, then I wore Sears diehards forever they're not as good as they used to be, gone back to Red Wings but I still think they're too expensive.
Not sure about the crepe description of soles. West coast thing ,maybe ? Dr.Marten's only one I can think of ,and not avail in rural Pa. 70's 80's anyway .
Rigger boots on the big sites, shipyards and fabrication workshops. Cheap sneakers on the roof. Gumboots on the farm. Socks round the house (shiny floors.... awesome).
It’s just about impossible to find a boot that is eh rated, composite toe, and meets Air Force standards. Our boots for line work have to be special ordered. It’s the only boot that can have gaffs and meet all other standards.

Everybody has their favorite or even only boot brand, but Everyone’s foot isn’t the same and the people who love Chippewas, aren’t comfortable in redwings or whatever brand
I'm an industrial mechanic at a factory. A pair of walmart boots last between a few weeks to a few months. I got a pair of store brand boots from tractor supply based on a co workers recommendation. Almost 2 years now and I'm shocked they are still holding up.
Mike Hough i work facility maintenance and renovations and the Wal-Mart brand boots would always split at the seems right about the 8 month mark. I picked up a pair of dickies brand water proof 8 inch leathers, right next to the Wal-Mart brand and ibe had them almost three years now. The only caveat is they were god awful for a week or two until they stretched out and formed to my feet.
Here in Australia, tennis shoes are NOT, I repeat, NOT, worn on job sites. You either wear a good, solid boot, or you leave the job site and go and buy a good boot.
Thes boots are really jard to break in, in the beggining but they last for a while even the more expensive boots last about the same, but a more expensive boot from my exp they are not hard to break in

I Love my Red Wing's. Tractor supply makes this glue on rubber toe protector. They work great and last 6months or better. They are under $5.00 and I still have my 5 year old red wing work boots. Plus I have steel toes too for logging and such with these same protection thingys.. there awesome.
Wait, people frame in your area while wearing something without a hard toe cap? I can't imagine being on a job site without a hard toed boot.
A good leather boot with ablative patches glued on over the most common scuff areas isn't the prettiest thing in the world, but they sure are useful and can last awhile.
Suprisingly good quality combat boots (not the fake ones, get them from a military surplus store) are tough as hell and don't take long to break in
Redwing 877's the only boot I'll wear. Thorogood is a close second.
Thorogood 814-4200 for me. Worn them for the last 15 years as a contractor, and they have been the absolute best of all worlds.

Red Wing 877's are a great boot. However, in order to get the best boot, you MUST be certain you are getting the "heritage" series boot. They make two different qualities of boot, that look the same, but are far from the same quality. Also, red Wing has what they call the "work boot sole". It has the look of the waffle sole, but has a hard rubber layer on the bottom, just like sears die hard boot. The rubber layer makes the sole last three times longer, at least. In the correct configuration, of the heritage series 877, and the work boot sole, you can't get a better moc toe 8" work boot. Just my opinion.

I’m I’m in hvac and I’m supposed to wear steel toes but I found I open up the toes in 2 months I accidentally got or should I say my boss got me some regular toed boots before we went to a job and it’s been two years now with no damage good as new
As a marine technician I've settled on 6" Timberland Pro comp toe boots. Not too bad on price, waterproof, and I put some Dr Scholl's heavy duty insoles in them which makes em comfortable to wear every day
not donn play your boot choice, every man wears the boots that fit and wear well for him. i wear red wings they fit my feet very well and hold up to what i put them through this why i wear them. does not mean that other boots are not good i have a friend that wears danner boots. it all boils down to what fits your feet and hold up well for the work you do this is how i look at boots. thank you for the video.

That's a good price. I have a pair of RW 899s that were my first boot once I stopped growing. I've had them for about 4 years now, and I just had my first set of eyelets installed. The lower is fine, the sole still has tread, but the tongue is getting pretty beat. I never really liked the crepe soles, but I guess they have their place. I try to oil them monthly or every other month, which I think is one of the most under discuessed but most important aspects of a boot.
Viberg boots out of Victoria BC Canada, great, old school, boots that last and last suitable for loggers, construction and linemen.
+1 on Viberg, 10 years on mine, full resole a couple years ago for 60 bucks. Cost 400 plus new. Hurts a bit at the time but seems like a bargain now...
HI, I like your videos. My personal favorite work boot is the red wing 2414. They are expensive but they hold up for me 2-3 years depending on the work I do and how well I take care of them.
By far the best boots I ever wore were given to me in Navy boot camp. Unfortunately the Navy has since changed to a new design.
Jupiter-Jesus if memory serves, they were called chukkas. At any rate, it was a Russian design. Google up the Navy uniform standards from around 2006.
I work for the navy in Hawaii and used to be issued black work boots that were issued to the Sailors. Loved those boots. No longer available but I'd buy them if I could in a second.

I am a true believer in a good shoe. I am not married to a certain brand but as I have heard a man say spend the most money on your boots and your bed because if your not in one your in the other. This is so true. As a farmer and greenhouse owner if you walk as many miles a day as I do you better stay in a good boot or your feet will haunt you. Really enjoyed this video.
Have cruised timber for 45 years - your leather moc toe recommendations are spot on - soles are easy on your feet & light weight.
2 things are boot gospel to me (1) Never, ever buy a boot without lacing hooks - a must. (2) Don't spend big bucks on high dollar oils - rub toilet wax rings into the leather & use a blow dryer to melt deep into the leather.
Do you get new or used wax rings? :-) What you wear depends on what you're doing. Spent a good portion of my career working around welding and cutting operations, a boot without laces is better for that, nothing to catch the hot slag. Ever had a piece of molten slag get in your boot, you'll want to get them off FAST, laces get in the way, a few seconds can be the difference between a minor burn and being out of work for a few days.
Oh, my word! Jim was a rancher who drove a school bus. Neil was a well-known jazz drummer who owned Dixonville store with his wife and drove school bus, our route to be exact. Both those guys made sure the bus was safe- there was no bullying on their buses-ever! The Hatfield's flower garden every year with the date? Betty and Doris-what women. There's nothing wrong with wearing sneakers on the job site I guess, but TO ME wearing a beat up pair of tennis shoes just gives off that 'scummy drugged out construction worker' vibe to me. Boots just look the part, and its nice to stomp through puddles without a care sometimes. And when walking through dirt and terrain it feels like driving a turbodiesel vs a Honda Civic. When I'm wearing my boots I know I can walk through damn near anything without worry.

Well you may be right about peoples individual entrenchment with politics, religion, and work boots, but I got to tell you after 20 or so years working as a carpenter I've gone through 7 pairs of boots in total. And each progressive pair ended up costing more and more money, not because of the relative cost of the boots themselves, but I started purchasing better quality boots, after all if I'm going to be on my feet and in my boots 8 to 13 hours a day, you bet the farm I want to take care of my feet. Here's the kicker, and not to say that Canada doesn't have or make a good quality boot, and god knows I've tried to find a pair made right here in Canada, but my last three pairs have been Georgia Giants work boots, and by last pair cost me $320.00 Canadian but they are worth every damn penny, I ended up getting a pair of Georgia Giants Amplitude WP&CT rated, and by far - they are the best boots I've ever owned. Mind you they're no longer made in the USA which is sad, because my first two pairs were.

I wear Survivors by Herman. They are cheap $46 from Walmart. They last only a year and a half but, I can wear them all day on a hike, if needed, the day I get them. AND they are steel toe!
I tried to like Red Wing. Three pair worth of different styles if memory serves me. Expensive lesson to learn that I do not care for them. Sears... Hate to say it but that company's days are numbered. Danner boots have been my work boot of choice for quite a while now, but still have their shortcomings. My daily driver have been Ariat's forever. When a pair wear out I always try on other brands but every time the Ariat fits me the best.
In the process of getting custom built wescos right now. I'm done spending $250+ on boots that I can't rebuild.

Cant see the point in anything inbetween. Dont get why they even make boots without toe caps . Cant legally ware them on site. The health and safety guy send you home . Or worce he dousnt something happens and you cant claim because you didn't have correct ppe .
a boot that comes with a GOOD insole is hard to come by. if you find a boot with a decent insole that happens to last about as long as the boot lasts, that's a huge win

I bought my first pair of Carhart boots last spring. Surprisingly, they've held-up very well.
I wear a size 16 and it's a nightmare trying to find a brand that fits. I bought some Timberlands and they almost put me I a wheelchair. They are the most uncomfortable boot under the sun. I have tried several other brands including Doc Martin but amazingly, my New Balance running shoes have lasted me longer than any boot. Granted, I have put many a nail through the sole, but I have had them for 4 years and they are finally giving up the ghost. Next pair of work shoes will undoubltely be New Balance trail shoes. Everyone has told me that Red Wing are the most comfortable but I can't get past the hideous color and design.
robert mills Royer metal free boots last me well, as comfortable as a pair of sneakers. If you can find them, try a pair.

Honestly, as someone who goes through about 2 pairs of boots every 18 months, I think you just need to buy a higher quality product. Timberlands are basically a fashion brand now. So are Docs. Depending on the type of work you do, you need to get a quality (not fashionable) product. Boot brands I have worn and trust include Keen, Red Wing, and Ariat. I wear Salomon hiking boots just for hiking. Right now I have been wearing Ariat western style boots with a safety toe. Amazingly comfortable and durable, but I've decided I miss wearing lace-ups, so I think next time I'll be back to wearing Red Wings or Keens.
Try a pair of Ariat "workhog" boots. I'll never go back to anything else. Just get past the fact they look like cowboy boots they will be the best investment you make hands down.
see if Danner has something in your size. general rule of thumb is if it's a stitch down it's made in the USA, if it's a glue down it's foreign made - general rule
My first came from K Mart we used them around cattle which ate them in a couple months...later on working in the shop I wore Carolina 8" for several years until they stopped making the ones I wore..I used Browning Feather lite boots for hunting and Redwings for working..Cherokee logger boots for Wildland Firefighting...Then I discovered Red Dawgs by Baileys...now I use their 10" logger boot and 8" work boots...I always use vibram soles....
I've worn romeos that have had the crepe soles they didn't last that long, but I wore romeos that have the good year welt, back in 2000 I bought my first pair of Viberg boots they are hand made work boots similar to Whites. At that time they were 350 dollars. Once you go to a hand made boot you don't ever go back, 17 years later I still wear hand made vibergs. Takes nearly 2 months of daily wear to break in a new pair of 151X Vibergs which I'm 1 month in. They've gone up in price their now 550 dollars but well worth it I get 2 years before they need resole. I'm in excavating I need a tough boot I'm walking on rough ground or I'm in mud etc. There is a work boot for every purpose would I wear 151x boots in house construction? nope too heavy and stiff
No steel toe? Crazy! I install ductwork in residential new construction and service furnaces and air conditioners. I found a boot that I could 1-afford and 2- were very comfortable, 10 years ago. Dakota quad comfort 6" boot. Steel toe steel shank. Available at Marks work warehouse. Great boot. Purchased 10 pairs in 10 years. Hopefully Have another 20 pair in my future!
I am an all-around Tradesmen Plumbing HVAC rough-in and finish carpentry concrete work you name it I'm not a Salesman I don't get kickbacks from mentioning their names but There Ariat. I've been in the same boot for over a year-and-a-half and I've only worn down about 60% of the Soul of the boot, there pull on steel-toed incredibly comfortable long lasting and most of all most important they protect me from heel to about 10 inches up. I would send a picture of them along with the receipt if I knew how to do so in a comment. Fantastic boots for construction use whether you're on the ground in a ditch doing brickwork laying down subfloor or on a roof. I would recommend these boots to anyone I've been using them for over 6 years they're a bit pricey at the beginning around $150 per pair but the protection and the longevity of the boot versus your typical store bought foot attire is well worth the money. I've had the Timberland powerwelt I've had the Red Wings I've had Walmart survivors and a lot more heavy name brand boots such as Durango but none have stood up to ariat. Sorry but I didn't pre read this comment before I sent it due to laziness and I'm tired after a long day of work so please forgive any bad punctuation. Love this Channel and take everything I can from it.
I am very very picky about my shoes and boots. I still havent found a boot that will last me more than a year. I work on the grounds crew at a golf course and i do a large variety or different jobs. I could be digging a hole/trench, cutting down or trimmimg trees, running equipment, mechanical work, etc. I have seams blow out, soles start to tear off, had one sole completly come off due to the glue melting from being on a tractor with the muffler under the footboard. Ive tried Cat, red wings, Carolina, and even some cheapy walmart/kmart boots like brahma, herman, and craftsman. Nothing can hamdle the variety and volume of work i do. Any suggestions. My requirements are 8" top with quick laces, steel or other protective toe, and waterproof. Another problem is finding a boot that meets my requirements not only for comfort (8",quick lace, waterproof) but safety.
For years I would buy the Walmart brand Brahmas Kyle boots and a new pair of Dr Scholls insoles. Boots were $29.99 and the insole $10-$15 or so. I don’t care what you spend when your in the concrete everyday boots don’t last. And I have a problem with athletes foot so I never wear rubbers or my darn feet will ROT OFF!
I have crooked foots! I have to get my boots custom made $1,200 was last pair in 1997-2000.God bless all you normal foots people that can get shoes/ boots/sandals & slippers in a local store.
I feel lucky that I’m still getting around. Feet still hurt, but that’s how I know l’m alive. Just get outside and do something. If it’s wrong let someone else fix it . Lol.
I'm battling with plantar fasciitis and no matter how good I though my boots were, they still needed a special insole. Until I purchased my first set of Cat Excavator boots. I'm convinced they are doing a great job of protecting my feet and healing them; however, I'm a heavy guy and I go through insoles like crazy. I want the oem Cat insoles that come with these boots and can't find them anywhere.

When I worked for a corporate real-estate residential builder-developer, even us "management"-types had to wear steel-toed or equiv. with our hard-hats and safety glasses around portions of the site under-construction. Failure was a firing-offense. Even on my brother's horse-farm, I don't like being close to the horses without steel-toed Wellies. I like my original-equipment toes...
After wearing out and rolling over crepe soled work shoes I now go with "Bearpaw" low hiking shoes. They're comfortable and $25 a pair at Big 5. I go through 3-4 pair a year. I have the Thorogood crepe sole oxfords for casual wear. Red Wing US made at nearly $300 a little to rich for my blood.
Red Wing's US-made #606 is my work boot... Granted, I'm not working in a trade currently, but I get at least 5-6 years of daily wear out of a pair. I oil them a couple of times per month and when the sole finally wears through, it's time to send them in to be resoled and relegated to my "hard use" pair.

in WV, a lot of coal miners wear Matterhorn. I'm the self employed semi truck owner operator/ mechanic (and everything else that goes with operating a business) and I wear the pull on red wing Pecos style. 100% made in USA with USA materials, of course.
I am a carpenter for a municipality and they buy me one pair of boots per year. But the prob is they have to be steel toe and since I work for a municipality I do it all. I do a lot of concrete and when you catch a edge I can take a new pair of boots and after a week I'm seeing steel toe . I wish they would let us not wear steel toe cause I would be going back to my old faithful boot. I was a union carpenter back home in Vegas and my first pair of boots was Georgia boots and I'm my sweet baby Jesus those were the best boots ever. Comfortable even after 12hr days and they lasted for years. Other guys swore by red wings but they weren't that comfortable didn't last that long and they were over $250 to me that was just crazy so Georgia is the only way to go gentlemen
Great videos gentlemen, but something was wrong with the lighting. It looked liked there was a warm colored spot light mixed with a cooler spot and as he moved closer and further away from the camera the warmer tones were moving up and down his face. Quite distracting. I hate to quibble, but you've set the bar quite high. Great teaser video looking forward to the full review.

I've got Craftsman tools I bought from them fifty years ago (circa 1967) that are functionally still like new. No other tools I've bought are like that. I hope the company that bought Craftsman continues that tradition.
ofc if find a good par of shoes.. you stick with them.. is dumb to try diffrent kind and risk they not feel/fit right.. and then need spend more money to buy the regular once again =) i have 2pars of same boots. they last me ~2-3years. but i take care of them polish them now and then and they last abit longer =)

Bought a pair of Red Wing boots IN Red Wing Minnesota, that had a special chemical resistant sole, that was warranted for a full year. Just before the year was up, the entire front of the boot came loose. I took them back to the store I bought them, and they repaired the boot. It held for another week, then my $200 boots were thrown in the trash. I am no longer a fan of Red Wing boots.
their quality has gone down drastically in the past decade, my previous 2 pairs (work and dress) were phenomenal. my recent work boots purchased a couple years ago, (same model number, made in usa, not their chinese line) fell apart in half the time as the previous pair.
So I've bought 4 pairs of boots in the last two months. I think I've narrowed it down to the Justin 6" top jmax, non waterproof type. I'm in Texas, heat is a factor. These 8" tops burn me up.
The only boots that half ass hold up to concrete work are rubbers. I just buy cheap boots because they last the same amount of time as the expensive ones. Ive had cheap wall mart steel toe shoes last me a whole year. Ive had expensive helly hansons last me not even a whole winter. The shoes that seem to last the longest are the non steel toed skate shoes i normally wear outside of work that end up as work shoes once they become old and worn. I figure its because theyre not steel toed so you pay more attention to whats going on around your feet. I also prefer shoes to boots for the better maneuverability. When youre walking ontop of a 9 foot wall thats 8" wide boots lack a certain sensitivity that i find makes balancing more difficulty. Just my seven cents
My old ragged-out pair of Red Wing steel-toed boots have saved my little, ugly phalanges more times that I even know. Also, I'm not sure this is standard for all but mine also had some kind of steel plate in the instep... there is no fun stepping on a rusty nail. But it did brightened my day when they would dent that thin steel plate and not skewer the tender side of my foot.
In my line of work (plating) the only boots that last or work for a damn are the rubber injection molded ones. But they are hell on your feet, even good insoles leave your feet aching and sweating more than a fat guy at the beach. Any other boot (or shoe) can be destroyed in a week easly, but cheap shoes are the norm for cost and comfort. It doesn't pay to get good boots at a plating shop.
worn a bunch, but I am on my second pair of Justin lacers. They are the ones made in America. with the thick black sole. I am getting about two and a half years a pair. Daily wear, on job sites. Not cheep but worth it to me.

Reebok work shoes are the most comfortable I have worn beside the Brooks work boots in which now I can not find now. I frame and finish (general carpenter) so I need the flexibility. But all boots fail in the toe if you are leaning on your toes.
I wore red wings for a long time then I couldn't afford them any more, then I wore Sears diehards forever they're not as good as they used to be, gone back to Red Wings but I still think they're too expensive.
Not sure about the crepe description of soles. West coast thing ,maybe ? Dr.Marten's only one I can think of ,and not avail in rural Pa. 70's 80's anyway .
Rigger boots on the big sites, shipyards and fabrication workshops. Cheap sneakers on the roof. Gumboots on the farm. Socks round the house (shiny floors.... awesome).
Ariat works great for me. 3 yrs plus in oil mud grime and they are still boots.
It’s just about impossible to find a boot that is eh rated, composite toe, and meets Air Force standards. Our boots for line work have to be special ordered. It’s the only boot that can have gaffs and meet all other standards.

Everybody has their favorite or even only boot brand, but Everyone’s foot isn’t the same and the people who love Chippewas, aren’t comfortable in redwings or whatever brand
I'm an industrial mechanic at a factory. A pair of walmart boots last between a few weeks to a few months. I got a pair of store brand boots from tractor supply based on a co workers recommendation. Almost 2 years now and I'm shocked they are still holding up.
Mike Hough i work facility maintenance and renovations and the Wal-Mart brand boots would always split at the seems right about the 8 month mark. I picked up a pair of dickies brand water proof 8 inch leathers, right next to the Wal-Mart brand and ibe had them almost three years now. The only caveat is they were god awful for a week or two until they stretched out and formed to my feet.

Thes boots are really jard to break in, in the beggining but they last for a while even the more expensive boots last about the same, but a more expensive boot from my exp they are not hard to break in
