This is why we shouldn't rely on so few systems to run so much. We really don't need to run full blown Windows on many of the things that failed today. Also, if this happened from one person pressing a button then there really need to be VERY serious questions asked as to how it's possible that one single person has that much power. There should be multiple steps within these systems that catch this kind of crap. I won't be shocked to find out this happened due to self regulation of some form or an other.
Regulators are also absolutely useless and corrupt. I know because i have personally dealt with the chairman of OFWAT and via a trade organization with OFGEM. I have in both cases provided written evidence of companies breaking the laws and rules set down in the license regulations and have seen in all cases the regulator do absolutely nothing. Indeed 20 years on and 3 years into a new complaint with OFGEM about their own information held on their website, i still have no joy. So regulated or not, massive companies/corporations will continue to do their thing (see the Post Office scandal). In reality what should happen is the creation of laws that hold those responsible to proper account and not just to the embarrassment associated with appearing before public enquiries.
It hasn't affected me at all. What the F is all the fuss about. I'm not flying anywhere, I'm not doing online banking, what is the problem. I don't get it.
I was affected, Amazon support wasn't working. One of the few orders I have ever made on Amazon and this happened. And you know what serious issue it has caused to me? None. I just had to wait a day or two..
