Yes, you made me jealous! That must have been an ordeal driving in that sandstorm! What a beautiful hotel though, you earned the spa. Hope you didn't had a hangover from the gin-tonic the next day because of the inevitable dehydration during that long drive through that conditions. Looking forward to next week as always!😊

Oman one of my dream place
Shamal, the famous name of the wind, it can sometimes blow for days, I remember it well when I was based in the UAE, the whole area is effected, even as I regularly drove over the mountains from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman it could get quite challenging to keep my car headed in the right direction. I hope your eye is ok, when I was hit by a bee on the bridge of my nose while speeding down the highway a couple of years ago my face turned into a balloon, in the morning some antihistamine jabs did not seem to do to much, still about four days before it looked reasonable. The cold air high in the mountains must have been very welcome after the heat of the coast. Great episode, looking forward to the next one.

Wow I'm obsessed with that desert harbor gas station. And the sandstorm was beautiful! I love when you see snaking sand blowing across the road. I saw some of that in the high desert in India but nothing compared to this! Beautiful!

I feel the pain, I’ve been hit on the neck and face by large bugs while riding, it hurts…😉😘 Riding in heavy wind really does make you sore and tired.

Wow! Would that be considered to be a haboob? I rode last weekend in really windy weather here. I know your pain. But I didn't have sand on the roads and I didn't have to dodge camels. That cave is pretty cool. That hotel is amazing. Gin and tonic for everyone!! See you next week. Ride Safe!

A former colleague of mine told a story of a drive form Los Angeles to Phoenix. He had gotten into a bad sandstorm there. When he arrived, the upwind-side windows of his car had partly gone dull and after getting out he looked at bare metal on that side. The paint had been blasted off. Are the screens your on your bikes still transparent?

I think our bikes were fine - but to be honest I as well didn’t wash them before returning them, so I actually don’t know! 😂😂😂

That road covered with sand reminded me of a ride I did on the west coast of Peru. Also covered with blowing sand in sections, very remote, North of Arequipa to Nazca. Now thirsty, I Got2Go and make a Gin and Tonic with a squeeze of lime. 😋
Great diverse episode Lea! I hate high winds even more than rain. Experienced some bad ones in the Columbia Gorge (Oregon/Washington) and in Arizona...

My travel partner is not anyone who is popular in the motorcycle scene (or any other scene 😂😂😂) because as you might have realized he is a very private person.

The sand drifts on the roads look a bit like we have on the roads behind the sand dunes at the coast, especially after a storm. Not great to ride through with a normal bike.
The coast there, around the cave, is beautiful.
Driving is strong winds is indeed tiring but not too difficult as long as the roads are clean. I rode several times during a 5-6 bft storm and also in the dark which is exhausting because you can’t se the road surface properly.
The difficultly depends a lot on how the strong winds or the storm is - I really don’t think that can be generalized in „it’s not difficult“. if it’s wind like the one that you have when you travel to Ushuaia, where there are always crazy strong side winds, it’s ok because they are kind of stable, coming always from one direction. If it’s a storm like this it is much more difficult and actually as well much more dangerous, because it was not stable, but gusty, so you kind of lean the bike against one direction and then the wind hits you like a steel fist from another one and Carries you meters away from the line that you planned to ride. Add the sand on the road and a very limited visibility (it was much worse in real life than you can see on the videos) and the ride gets pretty difficult.
@@Got2Go i agree if the winds come from different directions. Here, the storm gusts come more or less from one direction. More dangerous and I normally don’t ride my bike then but sometimes you have to.
Loose sand is always difficult, at least for normal bikes; I have no experience on an off-road bike.
