Luca is one of the villains you don’t feel triumphant from when you finally kill them. You feel relieved, knowing such evil no longer walks the earth.
Yeah because he whupped your ass all game, carved through your army, downed 17 of your best warriors despite being on the business end of an ambush, survives 50+ arrows AND THEN, arrows still embedded in his body, proceeds to very nearly KILL YOU in a 1v1 duel.
You bet your eternal soul I was relieved, holy shit.
And even then he still isn't fully gone living on in the beast crest the source of his power and madness
U know Luca is a monster when it takes 18 party members to take him down and did i mentioned he's just a man...no scratch that he ain't no man he is a beast
You nailed it down to a science, Luca Blight actually scared the shit out of me. He is such a believable villain, a deranged motherfucker who found joy in killing even innocent victims, adding to this, he's a fucking tank!
It took three battalions to finally weaken him to the point where you could take him down in a 1v1 duel. Even then, one wrong move and it would've been game over for our hero.
God, he was terrifying. I think even more so than Kefka or Sephiroth, mainly due to how he portrayed a narcissistic sociopath down to a science. Had he continued unabated, the whole of Jowston and the whole of the world of Suikoden, would've been brought to heel in a blazing inferno.
I don't agree, he was cool as Hell. I was hoping he'd win.
He's such a solid JRPG villain. He's my favorite in the series, which is a big deal in a series like Suikoden. I especially like that after his defeat, he doesn't pull out any of the clichés that usually come with the defeated villain speeches. He just mocks you. He killed so many more people then you can imagine, committed atrocities and war crimes that would probably make most murderous psychopaths look like harmless kittens, made your home an unreturnable location, and it took hundreds of your own soldiers probably dying to defeat him. He doesn't look at death as a loss, he looks at it as an expected end to his winning streak.

Even knowing his backstory (which is rather fucked) and finding him to be a very fun character, dude is indeed a villain.
Oh yes, he was all that you described. You are correct in that it took three battalions of your soldiers to bring him to heel. However, even then, he did not go down easy. Even after getting pelted by tons of arrows he still kept fighting.
Charging at our hero, challenged him in a 1v1, one wrong move and it would've been game over for not only our hero, but also for the entirety of Jowston. They were correct when they said he is a berserker class, though personally I would say calling him a tank also fits.
Had he been allowed to continue his conquest unabated, the entire world of Suikoden would've been brought to heel in a blazing inferno. His speech before his death showcased what a deranged motherfucker he was too.
By far, the most terrifying video game villain I ever came across and you're talking to a dude who has beaten FF6 and FF7, Luca Blight would've made both Kefka and Sephiroth his bitches.
The Mad Prince, so strong it took an army to trap and kill him, several volleys of arrows, three fights, and a duel.

@@Hadaron essentially, i had placed his sword and armor across the world and had the BBEG looking for the individual parts at resurrect the Mad Prince. However, a fortune teller had told the heroes that if they collected the pieces, they could resurrect a hero of old. They obtained his sword, but regretted it, as i made it sentient and made the sword Chaotic Evil.
Volleys of arrows that killed his accompanying soldiers instantly, I might add!

That terrifying moment when you realize you've only leveled and upgraded the same 5 teammates all game to save money...
That's when you make sure you load a save from before and start grinding to work on your weaker characters. I had some I completely forgot about, like literally they were at level 1, no joke. So I added them to my party and started grinding the shit out of enemies, got those weaker characters to around level 30 or higher. Worked like a charm.
Wait, is that Minotaur in that Side-Quests silhouette? Does that mean we're getting the SMT IV boss theme? Hell yes!

Hell yes! Luca Blight's boss theme still rocks to this day! Very nice work. Suikoden is dead as a series, but Eiyuden Chronicle will carry its torch proudly. But we must never forget the once great series it hopes to represent in spirit. And Suikoden II was its peak.
Suikoden lives on once again, we're getting a double pack of Suikoden I and II. I'm excited, if needed I will import a physical copy for the Switch and PS4, just to support this series.
@@DesertRainReads I know. This post was from two years ago. Besides, the double pack is really just cashing in on nostalgia. It doesn't mean Suikoden lives again. It's effectively dead because Konami disbanded the main development team over a decade ago.
@@Flegan777well, if this sells well enough, I'm sure we will eventually get a new installment. Whose to say a new team can't take over development and move the timeline forward?
@@DesertRainReads I think it's best to give up on that because it won't happen. As we've seen for years with Konami, once the company makes a decision, they rarely backpedal on it. I'd rather place my faith in Eiyuden Chronicle and see how well it rekindles Suikoden's flame. And judging from everything that's been presented so far in trailers and artwork, it's safe to say that it will.
Glad to see Miki Higashino's amazing S2 music still getting love in 2021. This is a great cover - a lot of personal artistic flourishes without losing the core of what makes it a great track.
Thank you for covering Suikoden 2! And Luca Blight is definitely one of the fearsome bad guys in RPGs I've face against. Even with 3 fights and a volley of arrows, he still stands like a madman.
I bet anyone that have played Suikoden II for the first time got them asses serve on a plate together with your 3 party team heads by the mad prince with just a sharp sword.

Luca Blight, I can't say enough about what a terrifying villain he was, I would say even more so than either Kefka or Sephiroth. I dare anyone to tell me otherwise.
He was so well-written. Truly a psychotic, deranged and outright sociopathic bastard who viewed people as nuisances to be destroyed and destroy them he did. The events of Ryube village showcasing this especially well.
There was no love lost between him and his family, considering the backstory of what happened, his father Agares was a coward and Jillia was a half-sister as a result of this outcome.
Either way, he held no regard for anyone but himself. Had he been allowed to continue his conquest unabated? He would've brought Jowston, nay, the entire world of Suikoden to heel in a blazing inferno.
Honestly, if Luca Blight had conquered the world, he would have turned on everyone who originally supported him until only he was left, and then he would have turned his sword on himself despite visiting his vengeance on a now empty world. Total evil like that doesn’t stop until there is nothing left to destroy, he was driven so mad he fit Doc Holiday’s description of Johnny Ringo in Tombstone, he literally wanted revenge for being born.
I dunno, Harmonia would've gotten involved at some point.

1 army, 1 army of archery, 18 characters and a final fight to kill 1 boss. Sephiroth is nothing to compare with
Luca Blight was a demon in human flesh so psychotic, ruthless, and evil that even the other antagonists(Leon, Jowy, Seed, & Culgan) were all "Yeah, he needs to die".
What really got me is before he died, he was not the least bit upset that he was dying, he just laughed in the end and even though King Sublime of Evil was slain, the main protagonists were disturbed by his final words. He was the most brutal and evil antagonist of Suikoden and he managed to make his own death bittersweet.
To quote Mark Antony from The HBO series Rome: "Now that was an exit..."

WHAT! I cannot BELIEVE this video came out so recently! I instantly have respect for anyone who remembers the Suikoden games (not including the completely unrelated spinoffs that came after 5). I played back when the first one came out and, til this day, I STILL feel strongly about them and cherish the Hell out of them.

I agree 1000%, he actually scared the shit out of me when I played the game. The man was a tank. Not to mention a deranged motherfucker all the way until the end.
Luca Blight had a tragic background; but what he chose to do in response more or less is a justified response; but it doesn't erase the damage he does. While the Mad Prince had reason for what he chose to do; his aggression held out on the people just fighting to survive just proved there was no other way to stop the madness. If Luca wasn't killed; everyone would be slaughtered until there was nothing left. At the end of the day; while his background is important to why he does things; it's not important to the people he kills, or the heroes... it just makes us understand what twisted him, and made him hate...
Unlike some monarchs in games, Luca was not only a strong tactician, but Luca could hold his own in combat, after being hit by several volleys of arrows; but he took on 3 groups of 6 warriors; all armed with the best equipment and runes they could carry... and then there's the moment you learn; that Luca Blight only uses the beast rune to enhance his arm strength; he coated his sword in oil so it would catch fire while swinging it in this state. When you sit down and think about it; that's metal as hell.
Only after witnessing the resolve of the heroes; does Luca finally accept that he is defeated, after fighting to his final stand... but, he doesn't go down screaming, or begging for mercy; or explaining his story to try to get some pity... he absolutely loves the fact that no matter what you do; his name will be remembered in history; as the Man who tore the nation to shreds; the very definition of evil, and perfect hatred... whatever follows; his legacy will be remembered for generations to come... and he loves the fact, that thousands of lives were cut down by his hand.
This is how you make a perfect villain.

Also... you know what I just realized? Luca Blight- I think- is based on Lu Bu. In that one game, you're told "Do not pursue Lu Bu". And the music for the fight against Luca is called 'The Chase'.
He's not based on Lu Bu, he's based on Xiang Yu. Which is why his end is in battle against three armies, not on the end of a rope.

For being a "human" (the translation of this game was so bonkers at times but I think he was just a human who like, inherited the power of the Beast Rune?? Idk), Luca was a fucking monster. Even being overlevelled this fight was such a phenomenal nightmare.
Also yeah, his ending speech of "It took hundreds to kill me but I have killed thousands" is just the kind of insanely evil epic quote for an unstoppable force of nature like Luca.

I can't speak for the first, fifth, or sixth item on that list, but as for the second and fourth, I have to agree that those have some good cover potential, though as an addendum to Final Fortress, I'd suggest making it similar to what he did for the Cossack Castle stages from Mega Man 4 and blend it with Egg Fleet.
