I let go of the love of my life, together over 5 years 4 months ago. Went from teenagers to adults together. She was an absolute diamond in the rough and always believed in me. This is the most special and personal song on ABIIOR in my opinion and a huge turning point for the whole album.The feat Matty pulled off in this song is that you empathize with all 3 parties involved. You feel for "the girlfriend" because she gets cheated on despite truly loving the man (Matty). But you also do feel bad for the other woman (or maybe women) he uses just to ease his pain from time to time. He doesn't really treat her (or any of them) as a self-contained, living human with her (or their) own feelings, needs and wants and that never feels good to anyone. And you can feel that deep down the man himself feels like that it's not fair to use someone solely for your own pleasure or conveniences without being able to give something back emotionally to that person. And in the end you also do feel empathy for "the cheater" because most of us know the feeling of hurting so much inside, you do things against your own morals to ease the pain inside you, cause you find some relieve from that pain in these short-lived moments of satisfaction.. I let go of the love of my life, together over 5 years 4 months ago. Went from teenagers to adults together. She was an absolute diamond in the rough and always believed in me. She held me through depression despite it being so difficult for her. She gave me some of the happiest memories and experiences that I'll forever cherish until the day I die. We both loved this band and saw them multiple times together, robbers was our love song. I'm hoping one day in the future we will reconcile despite how she feels now, if that day never comes I wish her eternal happiness and joy in her life as I am not selfish to stand in the way of that.

Reading comments while listening to the song makes me so emotional
My husband left me for a younger woman and I always felt like he ran to her as a way of holding onto the younger version of me. He immediately regretted it after we divorced and sent me long messages about how she would wear perfume and it reminded him of me. How she would rub his earlobes and he hated it because it was something "We" did together. It's been years and he still sends me letters telling me about how he misses things about me. I feel so bad for the people who are "mistakes". But I also feel sad for the person that was left behind. So many hearts are ripped apart. 😫

This song is proof that you can use the same chord progressions over and over and still make incredibly beautiful and unique masterpieces.
He introduced me to this song and to this band. I remember I cried the moment I heard those lyrics, needless to say I was the mistake. He isn't in my life anymore but every once in a while I come back to this video because it feels weirdly nice to reminisce those days that are too far gone now.
This is the most vulnerable and important song on the album in my opinion. Also it is a huge turning point for the whole record. I feel like without the pain from "be my mistake" there wouldn't be the lesson from "sincerity is scary" to just be honest and have the bravery to be "human" in this life. And without the lesson from "sincerity is scary" there wouldn't be the insight from "I couldn't be more in love" and most of all the bravery to actually admit that insight. And without that, there wouldn't be the hopeful approach about the topic in "I always wanna die (sometimes)", because love is the only thing that makes "the human experience" woth it. Basically: This whole album needed "be my mistake" to evolve the way it did.

I was the mistake. But I didn't know until it was over, he broke it off because she wanted to get back together with him. Before he left he explained everything about how she loves this girl and that he would dropped everything for her even after she had broken his heart a million times.
The worst thing about this is that since we worked really well together I genuinely thought that we were soulmates (I still do) the only problem is that.. I wasn't her.

This is the most special and personal song on ABIIOR in my opinion and a huge turning point for the whole album.The feat Matty pulled off in this song is that you empathize with all 3 parties involved. You feel for "the girlfriend" because she gets cheated on despite truly loving the man (Matty). But you also do feel bad for the other woman (or maybe women) he uses just to ease his pain from time to time. He doesn't really treat her (or any of them) as a self-contained, living human with her (or their) own feelings, needs and wants and that never feels good to anyone. And you can feel that deep down the man himself feels like that it's not fair to use someone solely for your own pleasure or conveniences without being able to give something back emotionally to that person. And in the end you also do feel empathy for "the cheater" because most of us know the feeling of hurting so much inside, you do things against your own morals to ease the pain inside you, cause you find some relieve from that pain in these short-lived moments of satisfaction.. No one likes to suffer, that's pretty human I think. But you do understand that he truly loves "the girlfriend" he just isn't strong enough sometimes to not give into his own demons. I think we all can relate to that to a certain extent, because we all fuck up sometimes and have hurt somebody without wanting to. The song shows you all "3 angles" of the topic of "cheating": the cheater, the cheated on, and the cheated with. In the end you just understand and feel the pain from all of them and that's something really special in my opinion.
