    Hi there, do you know if we would lose method marks if we use methods such as DI / tabular for integration by parts and coverup for partial fractions? I find they save alot of time and mistakes or should this be used as checking tool?

    • @BicenMaths
      @BicenMaths  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have recently seen the DI method referred to in a mark scheme for IAL, so I know that it would be accepted there, but I haven't seen it yet in an Edexcel British A-Level paper! They're good methods for double checking, but I'm not sure of their validity without it being in an official mark scheme yet :)

    Hi Mr Bicen,
    Hope you are well.
    I have started past papers, and I thought I understood the content but I keep getting really low grades such as D's or C's in the past papers.
    We have about a month now until the 1st pure paper, would you recommend that I keep going through all the papers and redoing the questions I get wrong, or go back over the textbook and reteach myself things.
    Thank you so much!!

    • @BicenMaths
      @BicenMaths  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Given what you've described, I would recommend a combination of those things - as you'll need to work on the exam question technique, as well as deepening your understand. I'd advise you to be quite focused about which parts you'll turn to in the textbook to deepen your understanding, as this should be informed by which questions you don't have the full understanding for! Sounds like you've got a good plan ahead of you - let me know if you need anything else.

    is this just a part of the pure maths syllabus or can i use this and memorise and learn what was said because it looks like what was in the Cambridge syllabus pdf
    ps. im trying to figure out what i need to know exactly so i dont waste time as i am homeschooling and teaching myself and could really use any advice and help,thank you

    • @BicenMaths
      @BicenMaths  ปีที่แล้ว

      The content for pure is the same for each exam board, but the exam tips I give are likely slightly different. So this is a good starting point! Let me know if there’s anything else you need. Good luck!

      Again, this is a very rare/niche area. It might be if a question had a sin40 and a cos50 somewhere in it, and you’re able to simplify the question by recognising you can replace sin40 with cos50!

    just wondering why i shouldn't use y=mx+c ?? my current a level teacher actually prefers it over the other method

    • @BicenMaths
      @BicenMaths  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you’re doing equations of tangents and normals with more complex functions, the form I use instantly gives you the answer of the line without having to solve for c. It’s more efficient time wise and reduces margin for error!

    • @BicenMaths
      @BicenMaths  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still use y=mx + c as it still works, but I think it’s more clunky

    Finally the video i was looking for, especially for the trig rules. Not a single other comprehensive list video with all the trig identities i needed. My go to yt channel exam solutions, even they don’t have all the trig identities in the form that is asked for in questions but instead just shows the proof for them so theres no condensed section with all the info at once.

      Yes the content is nearly totally the same - I can’t say which extra bits are here that shouldn’t be or vice versa (I don’t teach IAL so wouldn’t want to make a mistake in what I say!) but nothing on here would be “wrong” or “incorrect” for use in IAL. It’ll still be really useful!

    • @BicenMaths
      @BicenMaths  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmmm probably cylinder surface area is needed - when they’ve asked about spheres they’ve always provided the formula for its volume and surface area. Other than cylinder all I can think of is cube, but that’s really obvious!

      @@BicenMaths okay thanks sir, just vaguely remember seeing a question like this?

    • @BicenMaths
      @BicenMaths  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh you are right! Take ln of both sides - you then get lny = xlna. Then you differentiate implicitly to get 1/y dy/dx = lna , then you get dy/dx=ylna, which is then dy/dx=lna a^x as y=a^x
      That’s it!
