    Too perfect. This was the exact song that blew my mind away and hooked me. Jerry gets hypnotic. Plus, I’ve been jamming Sugaree non stop for last few weeks. Thank you. Thank you!

    I've heard #3 described as "fanning." I'm scared to try it but I appreciate you doing this. Your Sugaree backing track is my go-to "dicking around on guitar" track and it will be good to learn some new stuff to do with it.

    Another great video ! Pembroke Pines , as you’ve chosen has been my all time fav since 04, really digging it. You should try and transcript that melodic climax Jerry reaches around 9 minutes and 5 seconds. Loving the grooves brother !

    As far as versions of ‘Sugaree,’ in addition to the many great live recordings of the song being performed by the Dead, Jerry Garcia Band, and Dead & Co., check out Reina del Cid’s really sweet cover. It’s not jam-band-y like the versions by Dead, Jerry, etc.; just two very talented women with acoustic guitars giving it a nice treatment in their signature style.

    Dude. B mixolydian IS the key of E! You do great vids, but you should really know that basic theory. Jam on!

    • @JeffWilliamsGuitar
      @JeffWilliamsGuitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They certainly are the same notes but there is the difference of the tonal center. In E major it revolves around of course E. In B mixolydian, around B. If anyone's interested I have an 11 videos playlist on Music Theory Basics: th-cam.com/play/PLWbyLS1VMRzic_qxIyUCX0ZjO-K87hOB9.html

      @@JeffWilliamsGuitar this is a good point to debate. If you say what "key" is a tune in, you refer to the key signature. In this case, 4 sharps. Which is E. I don't know how you are trying to define tonal center, but you are missing. The song resolves to an E major chord. That's the last chord. That's the tonal center. It's irrelevant that it starts on a B.
      Let's look at an abstract to clarify. How about a ii, V, I in C? It starts with a d minor chord, but it's certainly not in the key of d minor. It's in C. That's the 1. That's where the resolution lies. That's where the whole thing is leading the listener.
      Same with Sugaree. It all leads to that last note. Just don't tell em that you know ME. Over an e chord! Boots. Tonal center. E. Same as the key signature.

      @@JeffWilliamsGuitar I'll def cop the licks from you though. ;)

    • @JeffWilliamsGuitar
      @JeffWilliamsGuitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lazylightning5496 You're definitely right that just because a chord starts a progression doesn't mean it the key. I could care less if I'm 'right' or 'wrong' but I don't want anyone who might read our comments to be confused. I just checked out a couple live versions of Sugaree and both end on a B chord and the last note Jerry sings (the 'Me') is actually a D#. The major 3rd of B, giving Sugaree a 'sweet' ending.
