    MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
    Video of icebox:
    Video of Gas Refrigerator:
    Propane Freezer:
Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

Mom kept little cedar pieces for quick starts. She called it turning on the stove. We had an outside wood stove for summer and for boiling sap. What surprised Mom was her stove was made in 1890 and Sears still had parts in 1978. Canning was done on both stoves.

Your wood cook stove videos is how we found you, almost two years ago now, I think. We were in the market and ended up buying a Kitchen Queen 480. Now I’m not a materialistic person, but I’d like to see someone try to take my cook stove away from me. Lol. They would have a fight on their hands. I just love mine. I named her Queen Bess. I really appreciate your video; I learned a couple of things. Ironically, our first meal was Thanksgiving also-two years ago. And we opted for both glass doors, so I could see inside the oven as well. Two other things we purchased was the rear heat shield and the summer grate. Sounds strange I know, but it’s really helped me adapt after our move to NC. So glad you made this video. I wouldn’t have thought to move the hot coals away from the oven vent. And I’m going to start shutting down the front draft lever all the way. Thanks for the great video.

Just found your channel. I’m 65 and just purchased my first Wood burning cookstove. Kitchen Queen 550. I am only about 2 hours north of Crofton KY, where these stoves are made, so I made an appt. and gave them a visit. Made by the Amish in a quiet little community. I spent about 2 hours there and had a very nice visit where the young man answered all if my questions. I had spent a good 6 months looking at various types of wood cook stoves before deciding on this. I did talk to Father God for advice. I was drawn to this stove. Well, I didn’t realize where Crofton was until I made my first call to the sale department. Isn’t that something...
So Monday, February 15, 2021, I called the sales rep, who is in Knoxville TN and placed the order for exactly what I wanted. Due to the high demand, it will be 8 to 10 weeks for delivery.
I’m not off the grid, but since I moved to the country, I knew I would need a backup plan. So, this type of heat serving multiple uses is a great addition. I’m excited for this new adventure.
I enjoyed your video. Thank you!

That's one more really nice stove. I can just imagine the smell of a fresh loaf of bread baking in that oven. That will warm your soul up really quick. Stay cozy snuggly warm up there, as we are trying to do here in the frozen south of North Carolina. We have recently had single digit weather here, and we are not used to that. However, we have survived thus far with our gas logs! They make life cozy and simple. However, they will never be able to compare to the warmth and coziness of a wood fired stove. Journey On!

The house where I was a child had a similar stove. On the coldest nites in upstate NY I would get out of bed and start the kitchen wood/coal stove. A couple curtains over the doors and I was comfortable in a big chair next to the stove. The place had a coal fired furnace in the cellar that would barely keep the plunbing from freezing. Parents did not care and Mom appreciated the coffee water already boiling when she got up.

Your 2017 Kitchen Queen is more user friendly than my 1930 Home Comfort. I need to tend my fire more often and the dampers are trickier to use. The KQ burns cleaner and more evenly. I have to scape down the "clean out" monthly, to keep the oven draft free flowing. That said, I do enjoy using a piece of history and have it down to a science. Very gratifying to master this old fashioned art and tasty! KQ worth the investment. Thanks JC!

Great Vid, Kitchen Queen Stove in adage: building a better mouse trap. Heat and gases of combustion travel under the oven for a more even cooking, not like stoves of yesteryear where heat travels over the top and down the side, also that over heats one side of oven on firebox side. Rule of Soiled Fuel Combustion is called: The Three Tees, aka Time Temperate and Turbulence... Myself back in the day fired High Pressure Coal Boilers and Garbage Incinerators too, raked and shoveled a lot of ash.

Hey JC. I don't see any recent views . Do consider putting this out again for viewing. With so many folks at home and some out of work, a wood cook stove could help out many households. Of course there needs to be a safe chimney either already existing or installed, but I have been in a lot of houses where it was obvious a cook stove had once graced the kitchen. Our 1930 Home Comfort heats 1,000 sq. ft. I can cook, bake, heat hot water . So either a good used one or a new one can be a real help over this winter. Hope you and Lori are well underway for winter. How was your trip to NY? Hope you are feeling ok. You both have worked hard. Its been quite the journey, ever since you originally left NH for NY. All the best! ~ Diane & Jim

    • @thebossoftheswamp
      @thebossoftheswamp  4 ปีที่แล้ว

We are doing well. All our firewood is done and most of the garden has been pulled up. The canning is done also except for meat. I find it sad that MOST people who have a wood cookstove in their house, rarely and sometimes never use it for cooking. Most of the antique ones are used as home decor. So sad ;-/

What I am really surprised at is that in the USA people do not use their wood stoves to heat their water directly using a coil or loop or tank in the fire box as well as a Muff or sleeve hot water tank on the smoke stack. My wood stove makes steam in min and ALL of my hot water is totally free. I did a video on my Illegal Wood stove that talks all about this that is well worth your watching. Thanks again. Jim

This is my third BL video, all because of his demeanor! THANK YOU Sir! "And now,... I'm gonna go mutilate some Wal-Mart stainless steel pots.. UH HAHA !!" 😉 that was the hook... lol
I just subscribed a few moments ago sir. And in reading comments here and there, I send you good vibes after reading of Frankies passing. I bid you a peaceful year. Stay upbeat, it works! ALL the best to you, from dannydan

Nicely done. You covered everything that some of us take for granted. I find myself giving the abbreviated version of your video everytime I see a wisp of smoke a visitor lets out while enjoying firing my stove. Later and enjoy life.

Great video! I like the looks of that Kitchen Queen. If my 1950’s Gothic Wehrle ever gives out, I’m buying one.
Y’all take care, the ice storm is on the way.

Yes Sir, if we lived back in NH this would definitely be a stove for us. But not much call for it in FL. LOL. We have had several fires in our little stone fireplace this winter. Looks like we may get another cold snap starting this weekend!! Stay warm up there Boss.
