The past games where Mario drowned looked and were funny to me because they never really attempted going too overboard with it and just passed it off as being a normal game over without bothering to really animate Mario for the situation, but the ones now where they make them kinda dark and more emotional character development animations where you can hear him trying to breathe trying reaching for the surface before going under is so depressing and sad to watch. :( Poor Mario... :(
The only way to die underwater in 3D Land/World is to get hit by something without a Super Mushroom. I should know, it's happened to me WAY TOO MANY TIMES!
3:21 brings me back to mysterious times in my life where things were simpler but I still had my life by the horns. Just wish I was stranded in time. Miss it so much
Anyone notice that like 90% of these aren't actually drowning? Like in Super Mario Bros. that's called "being sucked in" not drowning. Drowning really only exists in the 3D games (except for Super Mario 3D Land/World)
2D Mario Games + Super Mario 3D Land and 3D World: I don't need to breath! I can stay underwater as much as I want. 😎 SM 64, SM Sunshine, SM Galaxy 1 & 2 and SM Odyssey: ⚰️
Mario Scared is by gasping for air Sonic scared us with its damn song! Zelda scared us from the creatures in the water And GTA wouldn’t even let us swim for a time!
Apparently Mario can breathe underwater and swim in all the 2D Super Mario games except Super Mario Bros 2 and Super Mario Land where he dies on contact with water as well as Super Mario 3D Land and 3D World being the only 3D Mario games where he can breathe underwater whereas sonic on the other hand always sinks, cannot swim and even cannot breathe underwater as players are met with a 5 second timer when sonic is about to drown. Mario only drowns in those listed if he falls into the void while swimming.
For the 2D games, the player shouldn't have infinite oxygen. What should happen instead is waiting too long in water will cause countdown numbers to appear, starting at 5. When it hits 0, you drown and lose a life. Replenish the oxygen by leaving the body of water or touching giant oxygen-filled bubbles.
So just sonic?,even then I feel like the reason there isn't that is because they are making it pretty clear staple that in 2d he can't drown, and what is for now 3d games that don't have a timer, he can drown
From mario 64 onwards they just put in less and less effort. In sunshine it looked like he closed his eyes to sleep, in mario 64 ds his eyes are still moving, then in both galaxies he just rolls over without closing his eyes and last in osdyssey i'm pretty sure that's just a normal dying animation.
@@ascaniusyt588 It's definitely one of the best here but in sm64 he was hanging on to dear life and then fell over when he lost control over his body, idk if that's realistic but it definitely felt like it. While in sunshine he turns red and without any struggle just dies and almost like he is playing dead he rolls over so you can see him better.
Ah yes, let's show mario having a slow and painful death and make it as morbid as possible, like dude the only reason they had it like that in 64 is because alot of other deaths were also as morbid like the electrocution and choking on gas, the other games don't have that amount of morbid stuff, and even then it's made more kid friendly, also odyssey did have its own drowning animation, mario would fall but with his hand on his neck
@@kirbo4252 It's not that morbid at all, the X's over the eyes definitely show how cartoony it is. Ignoring that my criticism was that they were lazy with the animations by for example having the eyes keep on working after supposedly dying and not on how severe it was, making games for EVERYONE too kid friendly just ruins its identity and the fun. SM64 was definitely still appropriate for kids but they were also able to show serious situations and also deflate it after when necessary (like how the Mario's head transitions the game over screen) and in so tell an (to me) interesting story. A story where no conflict happens and everybody is happy is ultimate kid friendliness but totally boring and not appealing. You should try to add a good mix of despair and happiness to make a good story that appeals to everyone.
@@InterDylan ok, but who focuses on the death animation when looking for a good game? Because from what I've seen the games are still cartoony but were still best sellers
How should Mario die in the next evolution video?
I think evolution of mario dying by bowser
Evolution of Mario Dying by Goomba
Haha maybe by pits? (Day 3 of evolution of victory animations)
Evolution of Mario dying from the fire thrown by Bowser
Toxiced by paint

mario 64: BLURP BLURP... BLURP!
I just don't get it, in some games he literally has lungs and in some games he just has gills
That's how Mario works
I literally laughed at this XD
this is also the series where mario can breathe in space in every game... except super paper mario. don't expect continuity.
every mario game literally
Mario only drowns in 2D games though
3:31 Charles almost drowned once.
4:35 Tired of doing a voice for Mario? That's okay!
Everyone is talking about Mario in 2D levels, but nobody is talking about
*how Mario can swim with the eyes opened?*
mario is a pipe cleaning god of this universe
That's possible ;)
He can swim with is eyes open due to is easy underwater viewage.
i do that too. i see everything kunda blurry underwater but its not deadly i guesd
How does he see so well his eyes open underwater.
In Mario 3D Games, Mario underwater Lost for oxigen/life (Except for 3D Land/World).
In 2D for falling in Water or time.

That's not how it is, Mario I don't know what's wrong with him but when he gets "sucked" he does drown there
7:34 the way the cheep cheep looks at Mario though. He’s like “what’s this dumb guy doing”
5:46 so creepy and realistic how the screen flashes red and when he drowns he flips over on his back like he got shot.

More Mario deaths coming soon.

Bonus points if you put Sonic the Hedgehog drowning BGM while the Countdown is below 10 seconds.
Every time he dies, he ends up in a new place.

Just wait for the timer to run out and Mario drowns
The one Mario 64 is dark because you actually hear Mario suffocating.
Super Mario drowning in water but it’s just Game over
Stage Failed and Game Over
Well technically mario isn't really drowning it's just falling into a pit
He can only drown in 3d games
