If you just arrived here, if you're not used to Jacob,if you don't understand the hype around his music, please don't stop at your first listening.
Take some time. Sit on your couch, get good headphones. Listen to this peace of arts not once, not twice.
Listen to it ten times on a raw, even more, even if you have no musical knowledge like I do, until you get a grasp of most of the voices, most of the musical parts. Until you get all the lyrics if you're French like I am (sorry for my mistakes by the way). Until you can see these more than wonderful paintings that is this video clip. Until you can see the pictures by listening to this song. Until you can see the big picture, the wonderful structure. Until you can hear, see, feel, and take by the hand a holistic approach to this masterpiece.
Once you're here, you get it. You can feel it in your bones. You get the chills. You get the hype. You can feel all the links created and underlined by Jacob's music.
I must warn you though : once you've been here, you're hooked. Nevermind the place or time, this piece will have your soul bounce and leap above what you imagined was possible.
This is art. This is love. This is links. I'm hooked, please get onboard.

It seems that he's refined his style for Vol. 3. The production is still very impressive and there's a lot of complexity under the surface, but it's been applied subtly, and everything seems to be in the intrest of serving the composition instead of an ambitious demonstration of what he's capable of.

Samvit Singhal yeah but he really does love cramming every single idea into each song, and sometimes it gets in the way of a lot of peoples enjoyment of it which is fair enough I’d say. With more time and experience he seems to be holding this desire back a little bit and letting the song speak for itself :-)

I just had an incredible day yesterday with my girlfriend and a really close friend, the whole day we explored the city and had so much fun and ended it all going to another friend's 18th birthday party. I had so so much fun. This song made me cry in happiness as listening to it made me realise how incredibly lucky I am to have someone who i love with all of my heart and so much more, and to also have an amazing friend who I know cares so much about me. The first time i listened to this song i couldn't stop crying as this overwhelming feeling of being loved and loving someone so much just overwhelmed me. I've never felt the former feeling before. I really hope whoever reads this has or gets to feel this chest tightening feeling too.

In the beginning, the guy is at his piano but not playing it. He turns around and stares into a window while his entire reality fixates on it. Memories follow which are beautiful, and the first things to bubble to the surface. Then a silhouette of a different character; brief snippets of contextless images appear, as if they were each little stabs to the heart. A piano is played with two pairs of hands, a hand from a second character blocks light over the first character’s face, a moment of profound sadness, a shattering of glass, and the two go their separate ways. He leaves the memory and shuts the door.
Second character returns on screen having a journey dictated symbolically by Rhapsody. They take a conch shell from the ground that is their version of the window. They’re reflecting on the beauty of the union and the lessons learned from the separation. Much briefer than the first character’s journey was, they conclude the journey peacefully and surrenders the shell into the currents to be washed out to sea. The awareness of these events gets communicated to the first character, by his seeing the colorful fireworks from outside window that he had returned to.
After Rapsody’s final verse, all the light sources are all multicolored with brilliant hues; the entire video is in black/white except for these few seconds after the final verse dropped. The character is turned away from the now fading splendor and the piano comes back on screen. right after, the “I wont be alright” verse plays while the character is facing away from the light. After turning, he starts walking towards the piano- the song ends. As the voices die out, the scene cuts to cloud sequences. The clouds at the beginning are black, and at the end are white.

    [Verse 1: Jacob Collier]
    (He won't hold you)
I've been feeling down and out lately
    (Like I do)
    Baby since you left me
    (He won't hold you)
It's been so long since your body held me
    (Like I do)
Won't you come and save me?
    (He won't hold you)
I never was I misunderstood, baby
    (Like I do)
Since the day you met me
    (He won't hold you)
Now I'm lost, I'm on my own, it feels so lonely
    (Like I do)
    Won't you resurrect me?
    [Chorus: Jacob Collier]
    (He won't hold you)
And all across from all around
The people make a people sound
    They dance along the avenue
Of what I thought I knew
    (He won't hold you)
And all across from all around
The people make a people sound (He won't)
    They dance along the avenue
    Of what I hound to
    [Post-Chorus: Jacob Collier]
    I won't be alright
    I won't be alright
    I won't be alright
And I won't be alright (Say it again)
    [Verse 2: Rapsody]
Things rearrange, we miss what is not the same
I learned the value of what we had, taught by pain
    Caught the rain
Used it to wash my wounds
Learned the other side's grass' wasn't as green, I bloomed, I grew
Took separation to get closer to you
You didn't let go and I held onto
    Your arms were my armor
    Karma cut us loose
You learned value, I learned truth
No one holds me down the way you do
But your feelings out there spill over, and over and over
Just to cover for insecurities, I couldn't show to him
I had to face myself, my fears, my feels
    Now I know there's nothing I can't do
I dance in the rain knowin' I can swim too
    Found liberation, found my freedom
Where it begins is without you
    I understand now
    My only one, without you
    [Chorus: Jacob Collier]
    (He won't hold you)
And all across from all around
The people make a people sound
    They dance along the avenue
Of what I thought I knew
    (He won't hold you)
And all across from all around
The people make a people sound (The people sound)
    They dance along the avenue
    Of what I hound to
    [Post-Chorus: Jacob Collier]
    I won't be alright
    I won't be alright
I won't be alright (Be alright)
    And I won't be alright
    [Outro: Jacob Collier]
    Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm
    Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm

    Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm

As a longtime Jacobite, I loved his happy side, the joking trickster, his connection with the inner child of creativity. Here, he is dipping into maturity. He looks 15, sounds like an ancient soul, and in this tune gains the initiation into sorrow, loss, the blues, and gospel grooves. Listening now, I am crying not only from beauty, but also with depth.

i’d like to make an appreciation post for the series of frames 1:52. i love how perfectly the black negative space fits with the hollow-yet-full sound and the lyrics of the song: although there are people filling space, no quantity of people will ever make the world truly bright again. ‘the people make a people sound / and dance along the avenue,’ but the words and emotions behind those sounds do not matter. the world will only become complete and bright again with that one person that means everything, but until then he ‘won’t be alright’ and the world will remain empty.

This is my spiritual song of Jacob's. Back home, I'd often walk along a nearby beach to clear my mind, think about things, enjoy the scenery. There were many days where the weather was what most would define as "disgusting." Overcast, the sand all damp, seaweed and other debris peppering the beach... but it was beautiful nonetheless. I would often have this song playing in my head as I walked, especially on the overcast days. As I write this, it's been nearly eight months since I've walked along it, as I've moved elsewhere. This song reminds me of home, of the beach... and I love it. So much. I hope I can return home someday and walk along the beach again, with this playing as I walk.

This song came out the day I broke up with my girlfriend of a year. It was a mutual thing, and yet i can't help but feel like something wonderful was taken from me due to circumstances. There are days where everything seems okay, and others where it hurts so bad I can't leave my room and face the world. I take this song as a sign that there is beauty in pain, and as a sign that I'm gonna be okay. This situation is not at all what I wanted, but it is exactly what I needed.

It's hard to describe how this made me feel when I first listened to it but it was powerful

The more I think about it the more emotional I get

"he won't hold you, like I do" reminds me of "can anybody find me, somebody to love" (queen) but in a more subtle way, and then the "and all across from all around" section reminds me of something that David gilmour sang on but I can't remember which song, and then I get big gospel church vibes when rapsody comes in and it feels like a sermon. Jacob Collier has done it again what a legend

This comment should have more reactions. I was going to comment something similar, but didn't want to just type it knowing someone else could have noticed it too.

No doubt, Jacob's genius rests on the shoulders of giants. Genius that is nonetheless.

The very beginning of somebody to love is nearly the same as the "he won't hold you". The melody is the same and the chords transposed to C go
      Queen: C G/B Am F9
      Jacob: Am G/B C F9
This obviously feels super similar, too.

Jacob's songs sound a LOT like the gospel songs I listen to when I am in church. Especially this one. It reminds me of the choir harmonizing...
The organ player mimicking the singers, the whole church doing call and response as we sway back and forth. I listen to church services simply for the music sometimes. :D

I was thinking the same. This one makes me want to add VERY churchy runs in the breaks between that punctuate after the chorus(?). It really gives me Neo-GOSPEL.

This is the most beautiful song I’ve heard for years. It sounds so simple and stripped, but there’s so much happening all the way through. Lyrically, it’s a song that talks about loneliness and pain, but musically it just feels like a heartbeat that will wrap you up in love forever and lets you know that you can heal and be ok again. It’s such a beautiful, emotional contrast.

Ya know, there is direct correlation between my water bill increasing and the amount of Djesse 3 tracks he keeps releases. I think my alloted shower singing time is up to like at least a half hour now! 🤑😂 Gotta sing the same song over in all the different provided harmonies 😁 Thanks, Jacob 😅

Heard this song for the first time about 8 weeks ago, walking through Curacao. It had been 13 years since I was last there and it was also the time that my relationship had fallen apart. When I got to "I understand now," 3:23, I stopped dead in my tracks and shed a tear. Had the song on loop for the rest of the day.
