      That's terrible man. I sprained mine like 5 weeks ago, and totally ignored the fact that I sprained it and just went on about my business. Well 2 weeks into my injury, since my ankle was weakend because of the first sprain...I SPRAINED IT AGAIN...and this time I f***** it up pretty good! Now I'm hobbling around on crutches, and all I want to do is be able to go running and workout...BUT I CAN'T....well I guess I could workout a little, but I'd be seriously limited on what I could do. My point is, if I had just given my injury the respect it deserved, instead of being stubborn and thinking it would just magically heal on its own without me treating it, I'm thinking I wouldn't have completely thrashed it the 2nd time around! Now I'm laid up with a pretty bad sprain.....due to my stupidity.☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️

    To remain concise, while running - and to maintain a fast pace and flow - I usually jump down flights of steps; anything up to around 10 risers I'll aim to clear as many as required in one go to glance-land off the second to bottom step thus leaving a nice, easy, short stride on to the next landing. This is a controlled fluid movement as I'll only undertake this 'leap' when there's a solid handrail to utilize to hold and slide ones hand along to achieve a type of controlled - albeit fast - midair floating motion. Granted, this may appear unconventional, but it is an extremely fast and efficient method of descending flights of steps. During this my body will also be at approx. 45⁰ to the steps to enable a solid forefoot landing on the chosen going. Anyway, it was while using this descending method on a 10 step flight that I believe the heal of my leading foot just caught the tip of the nosing of the nxt step up from intended glance-landing spot. This caused that foot to momentarily become twisted/pitched outwards while mid-air then while still in that offset position immediately taking the full impact of the landing. The ankle in question [left] instantly collapsed and I fell forward, down the remaining steps and onto to the landing. For reference I'm 5'9", 11st and all surfaces (steps & landings) were concrete. The pain in and swelling to the ankle were both extreme and immediate. I called a cab to get home as quick as poss, went straight to hospital - where x-rays confirmed no breaks nor dislocations - after which I returned home and began practicing the R.I.C.E procedures. A week on and I have control of virtually zero movement in any direction/capacity of the ankle; this is not due simply to it being too painful, but because the brains' 'command-to-move' is not resulting in any form of movement. The entire ankle and all toes are badly bruised, with extensive swelling to match, which also extends up the lower leg (front, l/h side, and calf). The pain levels around all the areas are beyond extreme. I am concerned that the damage sustained is beyond that of just sprains and/or strains - having experienced them before some years back on the same ankle, although painful, crutches weren't required, just heavy strapping - the pain levels, virtual complete lack of ability to command movement, and extent, and coverage of the injured areas indicate a much more severe level of injury, possibly torn and/or detached tendons and/or ligaments, with associated nerve damage? Any help and/or advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bruce.

    • @markb20
      @markb20 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your ankle injury is the closest example of what happened to me some years ago- the left foot/ankle rolled out, the running training, running down stairs, catching the front of the last step going full speed, the IMMEDIATE swelling and terrible pain- and diagnosed grade 3 tear. Though I was in bad pain at the hospital, I didn't want pain meds, thinking I could tough it out till I saw a doctor. Bad decision. I will never forget that first night. The foot swelled up unlike anything I'd ever injured. The pain? Off the charts, so bad I couldn't even hobble to the bathroom (I had one crutch). I had to literally crawl from my bedroom to the hallway bathroom, putting weight on my knees/kneecaps because even touching the floor with that foot was intolerable.
      The differences were that when I sprained the ankle that evening, I heard a loud "crack", which was the ligament tearing or popping. Along with the grade 3 tear, they saw bone chips in the x-rays. And unlike most with a grade 3 sprain, I took months to heal, not weeks. Six months- three months in a cast, three months in rehab, 3x a week. And it took a whole year before my ankle was feeling somewhat normal.
      You're now 4 months after your injury, so hopefully your healing time was quicker than you expected. And maybe you're even back running.

    Who is here after running? I'm praying for all...

    • @markb20
      @markb20 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some years ago, finished my running, and was running down my stairs to drive to the grocery store; my mind was still in running mode. My foot caught the last stair, and as I landed FULL FORCE with my ankle rolled outward, I heard a loud "crack". As I laid on the ground in pain, I was convinced I broke my foot. Turns out that loud crack I heard was the ligament (tearing or popping). That night, after the hospital, the foot swelled up like a balloon, and the pain was beyond description.
      Long story short- grade 3 tear, bone chips, opted for months with a cast, 3 months of rehab- and after 6 months, my foot still felt painful and constantly stiff. It took a full YEAR before I started feeling somewhat normal.
      My advice? Get someone else to do your grocery shopping for you.

    Does a sprain/tear always bruise and have severe pain? I squatted down to pick something up, not exercising, and a while after noticed a little swelling on inside of one ankle just slightly to the left of where the achilles is (not sure what that muscle/ligament is called). No bruising and the swelling went away that night, but it hurts a little bit to touch it now. I didn't hear any pop or have any severe pain right after...

    • @mohamedorayith4626
      @mohamedorayith4626 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      how do you sleep? or what do you do at night?
      Often in first week or so sitting, hanging your legs over a chair or bed or standing causes blood and inflammation to rush to your ankles=more pain
      ICE is more than enough

      @@mohamedorayith4626 nah regularly sleeping in bed with the foot fully in bed. The pain hurt extremely bad for like 15 minutes and then it went away. It was like that for about a week and then it calmed down. It’s been a few months and I’m now walking with little pain but I have to be careful with every step.I cannot run at all because ligaments still feels a bit wobbly but I still feel them getting stronger.

  • @mohamedorayith4626
    @mohamedorayith4626 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wait, is the rationale for conditioning opposing muscles of the injury (if there is pain) to work those muscles eccentrically as eccentric exercises produce higher force using less energy?
    I don't understand how opposing muscles will balance the anterior chain stuff

    • @CorexcellSportsTrainingRehab
      @CorexcellSportsTrainingRehab  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mohamed Orayith most injuries (strains/tendonitis) Occur at the strength not the weakness. The strength has to over work because it does not have support from other weakness in the chain or from weaknesses in opposing muscle groups. Once you understand this rehab becomes highly effective - if u have the right exercises and tests for weaknesses

    • @CorexcellSportsTrainingRehab
      @CorexcellSportsTrainingRehab  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as an ankle sprain in the case of Katie in the video - foot inverters (post tib) were extremely weak. So when she fell on the ankle the everters were strong and had to do all the supporting to brace the fall and thats were the pressure built up causing the sprain.

    • @CorexcellSportsTrainingRehab
      @CorexcellSportsTrainingRehab  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If i did evertion exercises with her the pain was a 8 out of 10. Making it worse. If i did inversion there was no pain -Why because that muscle is the weakness. No pressure is on it for support.

    • @CorexcellSportsTrainingRehab
      @CorexcellSportsTrainingRehab  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once i built up the eversion weakness the inversion strength was able to relax and heal because it now had more support form eversion strengthening.

    I am a teacher and sprained my ankle a year ago while coming down the stairs. Xray showed no fracture but MRI showed inflammatory synovitis with mild ankle joint effusion. I had no option to quit the job at that time, so I took no rest and kept working all days. I used to get cramps and pain while standing, walking, climbing stairs and swelling by the end of the day. The injury became more serious and I had to quit the job. It's been almost 2 months now I have been resting at home. But still I can't walk properly and my ankle shows stiffness, redness, swelling and burning pain. I can climb the stairs but can't go down the stairs easily. It really hurts. I feel hopeless and helpless thinking that my ankle has been permanently damaged. Not understanding what to do.... totally fed up now.☹️😫
