Amazed that you choose a Panasonic HC-VX981. I've owned one forever. Turn it on and push record and it just works. With a cheap monopod and a swivel head you can do walk and talk video. Additional investments that make the camera more useful are a step up filter ring to 58 or 62mm and a 3-stop IRND filter. I know, step up rings are a nucense but it can be left on. With the IRND the camera works way better in direct daylight. The other thing I didn't know I needed until the original batteries went bad is the bigger VBT380 batteries. One of these batteries will power the camcorder for days. I enjoy the channel, thank you.

The Sony Zv1 is well known for video but it's a great stills camera too... People forget that 👌🏼

Absolutely! I always recommend it. So much cheaper than the RX100 line up and ultimately more versatile. I really hope they update it with an EVF and release it to a very hungry public.

4.39 the Christmas blow ups! I just documented Christmas blow up decorations in Iowa this last season! People love or hate them, they are great to photograph.

Your intros are always so good. I bought an old DMC-FZ1 cause I’m pretty much a novice and the very first question is so spot on.

Grab an Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista and catch the sunset view with the Golden Gate Bridge. I had my first there when I was 16.

Got the M6 with the 22mm and 32mm after your review and OMG I love it. The form factor is great, the flip screen very handy and the colors remind me a lot of the Canon 5D III, which was my first ‘professional’ camera for ‘professional’ work and since moving to the Canon R-system I felt very nostalgic about the older Canon color science (it peaked with the 5D III imho). So the M6 brings me a lot of joy. Thanks a lot for your videos!

@@flixbert I too love the old color science of the canons.. I have a 1D mk iv but want to upgrade to the 5d and I’m glad you feel it’s still got the good color science on that model .. I saw it myself when using the mark iii.. the skin tones were so nice. I sold it a long time ago because I didn’t like how it felt in hand.. 😭 I wish there wasn’t such a pronounced ridge near the place where your thumb rests… but I’m willing to deal with it for the full sized sensor and like 5 more megapixels and newer and better high ISO’s and smaller form factor! Hehe!

I'm so excited to see you with a Konica Auto S3! I've had one for a long time, took it on trips, it's now up for sale, so please release a video about it to bump up the price 😂😂😂 it's so interesting to see how your filming kit has evolved. I've shot a bit with an insta360 over the last two months and would definitely buy one for myself. Love your videos! Have a happy holidays

I love all of this.... but regarding the question about inspiration, I write a lot on my Substack about ALLOWING these phases to come and go and use them as a "reboot". It's totally ok not to feel inspired to shoot and trust that this is part of a lifelong process. You will need respite and dead space to allow change and growth to happen. Easier to say, hard to do... also love, love, love your free spirit! That's my summary statement because I'd have to go frame by frame and I'd just keep sloppily reiterating how much I resonate with you. Thank you for this!

I totally agree! It is vital to have quiet periods of uninspiration to refill the well of creativity ✨

How did you choose TH-cam as your content format/destination? Seems like a *lot* of effort to produce these videos--though I do very much enjoy watching them! I have taken a couple near-identical photos at these locations before, love the perspective

Thank you! Video has just always been a format I love, both as a viewer and as a maker, so YT was just an intuitive move. But it’s definitely more work than say a written work.

Awesome, I took the Sausalito ferry 25 years ago and captured the experience on a Fujifilm APS camera. I still have the negatives somewhere although I would have to 3d print a mask for scanning APS film.

I just pur A S5ii after finding some money. I’m surprised as I primarily use LUMIX M43 and Fuji. Just a consideration. The S5 is contrast detection autofocus. The depth from defocus is more than adequate for photography. For video the DFD isn’t very sticky. For your use case, the S5ii may be the better body. Of course you know this. Maybe I’m trying to justify my S5ii vs the S5 purchase. Of course there is always the G9ii.
So many cameras. So many choices.I love your photography as therapy explanation for your camera passion. Thank you for this video.

The S5II is fantastic! Nothing to justify as it’s objectively wonderful :)
