This really hit home.I've been a serious photographer for more than 25 years and I always feel the pressure to keep up with all of the new technology, But when I look at my older images I realize that they are many of the best things I've ever shot. I loved both my Canon 5D and 5D Mk 2, and I'm seriously considering going back to them. I recently purchased a Sony DSC-R1 - a strange but amazing hybrid.that came out in 2005 and shoots wonderful images - I bought one when it was released in 2005. And also considering investing in a Hasselblad V system for shooting film. It was the only film camera that felt like it was an extension of my arm. Time to go back to basics and putting my energies into taking great pics - and not owning new cameras.
This video is most beautiful video in your channel so far. The pictures make them so early 2000 vibes and nostalgic. These vibes have made me emotional.
In my humble opinion, it's the best camera made. I've had many "high end" cameras and sold them because there is something about this camera that far exceeds anything else out there
5D is my all time favorite camera and still use one! Just in case anyone is concerned about the build, these are actually made of magnesium alloy, not plastic. Great suggestion on the old lenses! I also use adapters to use old manual lenses, such as my favorite 50mm Super Takumar F1.4. The focusing screen can be changed to make it easier to use them, if you can find them these days. Color rendition of skin tones makes this possibly the best portrait camera ever, which is one of the reasons it was a wedding favorite on top of the full frame look that was otherwise uncommon when it first came out. Back then, it was the 1ds mk2 or the 5d to get that dreamy look, and that was the entire market for full frame.
Would love to see review of the original Canon 6D (Mark 1). Many people believe the IQ is similar to 5D classic but 6D has more buttons, better AF and above all a better LCD and viewfinder. I got rid of the 5D because the LCD is very low res. and not usable (for me).
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Classic! I picked one up a few years ago with a 40mm pancake lens and it’s an excellent walk around everyday combo.
This camera (as well as the MkII) bring back strong Tumblr / Phoot Camp memories for me, as I was living in NYC and starting to get more serious about photography.
Wow, great timing. I was just watching a few of your videos and had noticed that you mention the 5D with fondness. I went to your channel to find your 5D review and was bummed that I didn't see anything. That was two days ago. Now, today, voilà... your 5D classic review. Awesome.
I have the Canon 5D Mark2 and will never sell it. There is a smoothness to the images that I love. These cameras are such a great deal these days. Thank you for this review.
My favourite song from Bat for Lashes - Daniel. An absolute banger back in the days🤩! Fits well. I think you not just have a good taste in old cameras but also in good music, too. Cheers!✌
I adore mine too. One thing to keep in mind though is that in some models the mirror falls off. Canon fixed that back in the day for free. But not anymore. So it can happen that you buy a 5d classic which has that problem. And that happened to me too. I superglued the mirror as carefully as possible and had no problems ever since. But it can happen. No dealbreaker in my opinion for what it sells for right now and what wonders you get out of it. But still an issue to watch out for. Love your images, again beautiful moments and scenes of life.
Great video! I love my 5D. I've had this camera for so many years now, I've shot so many pictures with it. There were many other cameras, but this was always my trusted best friend. With the nifty fifty and the 24-105 f4 l you have all you need. I often thought about an update, but this is so unique.
I have two Canon 5D mk1 cameras, one for colour, the other converted for infrared capture. It has limitations that once adapted to is completely liberating to work with. Yes, the colour is not life like, and that is what is so good about it. I often shoot both RAW+JPEG to nail the colour in camera and layer it on top of the RAW file output for luminance optimisation. And yes ... the highlights roll off very nicely to allow a viable degree of shadow processing in post. With just this one camera I feel I can do exactly what I want with my photography. I think you feel the same.
First Off, you gotta be a beast to come outta camera w/ jpegs that are this fire so big props to you! I don't know to this day what secret sauce Canon possible put into the 5D Classic but I swear they did. I have the 1Ds Mark ii which is full frame and dope as well, but 5d Classic to me is just that much better. Not the most dynamic range , to be expected of a camera this old, but If you know what your doing and particularly if you shoot RAW 5D Classic is just different
This generation of Canon DSLR’s are built like absolute tanks ⚡️ 2013 and on definitely incorporates that “plasticy” feel. Newer models perform at a clinical level but I’ll never sell my 7d mk1 and 5d mkII. Love your videos!!
Great video, I’ve been waiting for this to drop forever! The 5D Classic was the first DSLR I ever bought. Glad I did as it was probably the best way to learn with its lack of creature comforts. I’ve been through two of them now due to shutter issues (not the mirror falling off though) and would still buy another in an instant. I go back and look at my archives and will come across a picture that just looks more special than others, can’t really tell why exactly, and without fail, every time, it ends up having been taken on the 5D. Even after being heavily edited! I’m 20, so I presume this camera was used for lots and lots of media I saw on TV and print so maybe there is some sort of early-2000s nostalgia factor to the files that my monkey brain loves.
That is so interesting! I feel the same. There is just something in the color and contrast that feels like a glorious memory. I wonder if that is just a cultural memory of sorts given how prevalent the camera was for so long. It's awesome to hear the image quality still resonates with you even thought we're of different generations.
Great video; thankyou. Love my 5D and only have two lenses…..the 40mm 2.8 and the 50mm 1.8. Just love how it renders the colours. I also have the 6D which i got for a song; that has a lovely look as well. Different but it’s got its own thing going on. Canon made some great cameras back then.
This was indeed an epic overview of your thoughts on the 5d classic. That intro was just stunning. like you I have so many cameras both digital and film. I came to a point where I had to choose between the d700 and 5d. I ended up selling the 5d and keeping the d700. It was a hard decision. The auto iso of the d700 and weather sealing played a huge factor for me when it came to my backpacking/exploring. I recently went on the mist trail at Yosemite which the d700 absolutely killed the game for that whole trip. I do love the 5d and was happy with it. But I agree with your points on the raw files. In fact I have a 30x40 print hanging up in the waiting area of my business directly next to a print from the d700 and everyone is always stunned at the 5d image as well as the d700 image. which that 5d print was soon jpeg. you can't go wrong with either camera for sure! love your work as always!
I have some current Nikons, but I love my D700. I also have a D3s that has a similar sensor. They are built like tanks, but using a cross strap lightens the load. Great image quality. Even at ISO 3200, there is a creamy look.
I understand the comparisons between 5Dc and D700 being tempting and does answer the age old questions well. I do feel like the fairer and more interesting comparison would have been the 5D mark II to the D700 both being released in the same year while each occupying a very different niche.
I own and enjoy two 5D classic since 2005 as my only DSLR bodies. I worked with them as a weddings photographer and just recently I bought a 6D MkI which is also a delight, with a betrer screen, processing speed, AF and dynamic range than de 5D, but also a beautiful creamy output that reminds me the 5D classic. I think you should try a 6D MkI someday. Greetings.
always commented Mk1-5D on this channel, its a legend and still amazing, also worth noting in the menu you can use the jump button to flick through the Red, blue and Orange sections of options . So getting to the format option is at hand quite fast. There are so many Fuji hunter after the film feel of life these days, but this just does it SOC. Great channel, glad you reviewed it.
What a great review! So much effort and joy 😊I love this camera as well as D700 and I agree with what you said. I shoot JPEGs and this and RAW on the Nikon. This is definitely a classic while D700 is something you can match up against modern cameras with.
While I never owned a 5D classic, I used one early on and it made me feel so many things lol. The 5D3 was such a pivotal camera in my life, to the point where I've been having a hard time bringing myself to sell despite the fact that I don't use it anymore. Your shots with the 5D1 as so sick, that black and white shot of the dude smoking at the beginning is wild. Excellent stuff as always.
The 5D Classic and 5D Mark II was Canon at its best IMO. The Classic was groundbreaking for being the first "affordable" FF digital camera and the Mark II was groundbreaking for the video it could shoot, which was not common at all at the time, and started the whole hybrid camera craze that still exists to this day. Some of my favorite photos were taken with the 5D Classic. That sensor just had a look to it Canon has never been able to reproduce and its arguably my favorite they have ever made (aside from the 6D and 5D Mark IV), and I have owned or shot with just about every digital camera they have made . Great shots here, loved the video.
@@michaelbell75 I shoot Olympus but I couldn’t pass on this one. Gotta find a lens for it. My pops shoots Canon so I wanted one to help him learn his camera.
@@mhogue1963 The first easy choice would be the EF 50 f/1.8 II or STM. They are dirt cheap, especially used. Tons of great options for EF mount lenses, both native and 3rd party like Sigma and Tamron.
I have this camera, it is by far my favorite while I own 3 other Sony bodies this camera always holds a special place in my heart! Superb photography by the way!
Thank you for this great review. It's uplifting to see someone basing a camera review on the rendering qualities of a sensor, which is far more important than preoccupation more quantifiable data, such as megapixel count. I have a Canon 6D, which also renders images in a beautiful way. The 5D Mk1 and 2 and the 6D have some of the best full frame sensors ever made for Canon DSLRs. All three have a slightly different look, but what they have in common is that they are reminiscent of images from film. Maybe the 5D Mk1 was so film-like in rendering because Canon was trying to shift the customer base away from film? The Canon R5 and R6 are technically light years ahead of these three old DSLRs, but the images just don't appeal to me in the same way. They are too just clinically digital, if that makes any sense...
I love that you did this comparison. As a life long Nikon shooter (SLR and DSLR) and finding my way Back to using my older DSLRs. I am considering picking up the D700 as I never owned that one but (shhhh, don't tell anyone), I have recently been intrigued with older Canons for their sensor output. Thank you for the color output comparison of the two but now I am wondering how the original 5D compares to the original 6D in IQ/color. On a personal side note, I was happy to see a shot of my neighborhood beach and surf point in your first photo montage of the video. Great video and happy shooting. 😊
I had this camera and this lens until they were stolen in 2009 in Athens. The auto exposure was surprisingly good for a 35-area system. Some of my all time favourite photos were taken with it.
I had the classic for a couple of years. I agree about the colors, at ISO 800 and below. The AF and general sluggishness eventually got to me and I sold it. Six months later I had an opportunity to pick up the Mark II for a really good deal and felt like it was what I’d hoped the classic would be. Much more reliable performance, same great colors (to my eye) and actually usable ISO 1600. Plus the huge bump in resolution meant more flexibility. I love the Mark II and don’t expect I’ll part with it.
Hi, there is a very special camera that I think would go very well with this channel, I don't know if you've heard of the Epson R-D1 but it's a really unique digital camera with a true analogue soul, it was launched in 2004 and even predates the M8. This camera is really worth a look! Your videos are great!
Gorgeous output of this camera. If I didn't already have my beloved M8, M9-P, SL (Typ 601), H2 + CFH, H3DII-31, DCS620C, DCS620X, DCS660C, DCS760C I would definitely buy one of these. But enough is enough.
Great review, especially because of your love for this camera. Today I paid for one 5D1 body which is in the mail tomorrow, and made a payment on another and hope to have that in two and half months. The paid for body comes with a 24-70 F2.8 EF lens. I am excited to get the first one in my hands and start experiencing it. I believe what is spoken about this camera, and it feels like I am coming to a camera I've been looking for after a few years of shooting, and to a look also that I have been looking for. Can't wait....
Great video as always. ! I love the images the original 5D put's out. Seeing all the burnt trees in Sequoia is heartbreaking, spent a summer there working for the concessionaire when I was 18. The entire High Sierra Trail is the most beautiful in the backcountry, IMO. s.
for those looking into the comparison part of the video, i want folks to know this is kinda an apple to oranges comparison. the two cameras are 3 years apart on their release date and the d700 and 5dmark2 is a better comparison as they was released around the same time. i do agree with most of the thoughts on the 5dmark1, the colors are amazing. i have both the 5dmark1 and 5dmark2 and i still prefer the mark1's color. the images produced definitely feels like film to me. before this camera i had a 40d for a couple of years and before that i shot with a canon ae1 for 15years. the 5dmark1 reminds me of my canon ae1 alot but just digital and updated tech. if i can get the 5dmark1 in a smaller package like the mirrorless cameras nowadays, i wouldn't need another camera.
Love the images you produced with it. I also got a Sigma DP2 Merrill after (among others) I saw your review of it. The images are crazy good. It's the first time I've actually viewed too much details as something negative. It would be super cool to see you review a Pentax K-1. I know you're a pentax fan. I know you're a fan of non-mainstream stuff and cameras that allow for use with older legacy glass, like Pentax also does. It's their 1 full frame camera. I love it allthough I'm also shooting with other brands, Pentax feels special.
Thank you so much for another fantastic review video. I like how you compared The Classic vs. The Legend. It should help people who are stuck deciding on which one to purchase. Just seeing the wedding photos alone is enough for me to want to pick up a 5D Classic!
@@OneMonthTwoCameras I've got to put a 5D purchase on the back burner as I recently picked up a Canon Powershot Pro 1 and I'm having a fabulous time playing with all of its goodness/eccentricities.
You don't have to scroll down to format the card on the 5D - scroll 'up' / turn the dial the other way. Much faster. Also try the jump button. It 'jumps' you from one section of the menu (they are divided by colour) to the next. Very fast, very handy.
I've had my original 5D for a long time and I love it. I only have one lens, the 28mm f/1.8. I've tried upgrading many times, but I haven't found a camera yet that I am happier with. I even have a Leica Q now. In most ways, the Leica is the better camera, but I secretly still prefer my 5D... If only it focussed better in low light...
Thank you so much for another video. and I‘ve been waiting for this video for a very long time, Ali. I've been using this camera body and nikon Ai lens for a few months. And nikon lens, i have to say, does a very good job with this body. And i custom a few settings that I really appreciate. Thanks for your sharing.
The last real camera, no video mode. Just pleasure of photography. The sensor on the 5D have character, 8 microns by pixel, enormous for lightcatching with 13 megapixel. Marvelous and simple for love of photography. Very good color. No stress, just cool. And i use it for pro photo fooding and web and more. So no problem , he has his place in the eternal photo game. Collector! Sorry for my english, je suis français! Bonne journée.
The shirt OF LIFE! You darn peeper you. Yes to cameras with low mp count and large pixel pitch, cause of that roll off. I'm not sold on the importance of dynamic range, honestly... I'm so curious about what Fuji camera you have in the gears. Major Fuji freak here. Had my eye on an F550EXR that popped up on marketplace. My coming of age photographically was with the XT1. That intro was a sweet treat
as always, thanks for the effort and sharing. i bought a 5D on my local Craigslist about 6 years ago. tested well-except the sensor had a scratch. BUMMER! thankfully, the scratch is on the edge and not noticeable till smaller than f7.1 so no f8 for me. that said, the sensor had been reinforced by Canon so i stay wider than f5.6 and use it with an EF 50/1.4 and all is good.
i love your sssss remind me to my self cheers, and yeah about the 5D classic there is a bond between me and this camera i sold it few years after it came out then bought it again sold it again and it just keep coming back to me so finally i decided to keep it even if i will not gonna use it but it turned out i always use it, when i need natural look portraits, when i want to get great colors the only camera jumped into my mind is 5D.what is your favorite lens with it ?
Have you tried the Canon 40D? For me is like the 5D in apsc size. Have very similar image rendition, same battery, similar ergonomics, but with some better things like auto ISO, live view (very primitive), better menus and UI structure, etc. I hope you could try it
Re: The adjustment buttons (11:05): Unlike the way contemporary Nikons worked, you don't have to press-and-hold the adjustment buttons. You can just tap the button and turn either the front or rear dial, depending on the setting you're changing. If your hands are big enough, those six top-button settings are all one-handed adjustments.
Just watch out because not all 5D bodies focus equally. I had to go through 3 bodies before finding one that would focus properly with most of my EF lenses. The other bodies had a tendency to front focus or back focus. This third body is on point like 90 percent of the time.
Great video, I think it is amazing how so many of us are going back too classic cameras. As you so well illustrated they had a simplified operation and a very interesting quality to the images. We have rebelled against the new cametras doing everything even though we might be shooting aperture preferred. Thank you again great video.
Got one for 44 quid recently. How could I not get one? Don't have the heart to tell a friend who bought his back in the day for over 2 grand. Absolute gem and a steal these days!
One more thing. I'm not sure if this applies to the 5D, but my 20D from 2004 also takes CF cards, but it can only format them to a max size of 8GB, you can put larger cards in, but it will only format them to 8GB. No permanent damage, just put them back in a newer camera and reformat them again. I chased around and got a couple more 8GB CF cards whilst they are still available
Great video. I love my 5d Classic. Got it for a song: £60 several years ago. I have the 70d and 5ds, the latter is just a wonderful tripod camera. I loathe change, and as such, mirrorless, at the moment for me is a no-no. Next purchase has got to be a D850. Great, honest video and thank you for taking the time to make it.
I REALLY should NOT be buying any gear anymore... yet just recently I've got both a Canon EOS 5D (with EF 24-85/3.5-4.5 USM and 40/2.8) and a Nikon D700 (with AF-S 24-85/3.5-4.5 ED VR and AF 24/2.8D, AF 35/2D, AF 50/1.4D and AF 85/1.8D). It's all your fault ;P Seriously though - thank you for so many passionate and interesting materials on YT, keep up the good work :) Cheers from Warsaw, PL!
Thanks for the great video as always. For some reason, I love the RAW files from this camera - deeper colors, nice skin tones, and astonishing details. But I will try your Faithful recipe to see if I like it - if I don't have to deal with RAW I will be happy!
I also love adapting those Olympus Zuiko lenses (pretty sure I have the exact same ones 😆😆😆). They're such a great way to bring an analog feel to digital cameras!
Great video, I love my 5DMKI! One thing though, at 12:44 you say it has a “plasticy body” but that camera has a magnesium alloy body, not plastic. Your pics from the Sequoia Park were amazing! Thanks for sharing!
You have a great and creative review as usual and always! The wedding photos that you showed are bordering on art. By the way, you can put an alternative Magic Lantern firmware on the camera, one of the useful functions is to add color to the LCD monitor. Greetings from spies from the RF)))
Love this camera, I'm currently selling mine because I've gotten a Leica SL and I can't justify keeping both. But it creates beautiful pictures and I've taken some of my favourite portraits of my daughter with this camera and the 50mm f1.8.
Just bought the MKII a week ago and it smashed me in the face how nice it is! Haven't tried out JPG to much, but your photos really want me to work more with those if I can come near those colors
Trust me once you start taking your pictures with this camera, it’s difficult to go back to any other. I have a 70D but ever since I bought this one, I have rarely picked my 70d. Bought a Super Takumar 50 1.4 and also Tamaron 28-75 2.8 and love the results from this camera.
Oh my, that’s about the 3rd camera I bought after, or actually, WHILE watching your video about it... 🙈😊. Had been quite interested in it since getting more into dslr’s from that era and with this I couldn’t help but pull the trigger. Looking forward to try it!
Boy I loved that camera. Shot a bunch of weddings and portrait sessions with it. Gorgeous. And the conversions to B&W were crazy good. Miss it-wish I had not sold it.
I currently own a Fujifilm, I couldn't connect with the canon r series. The 5d OG looks amazing, I had a 70D that made me fall in love with photography.
I had my eye on this camera a few days ago because it was the first full-frame camera and figured it wasn't in demand nowadays. But the One Month Two Cameras effect got me. 😄
Maybe you wanna take a look at the 6D Mark I. It's has also a very distinctive look to it. The Color rendering of the 6D in comparrsion to the 5D are more warmer tones, but beautiful as hell. Give it a try, you will love it.
I bought the 5D in 2008 and combined with the 24-70 f 2.8L and the 50 f 1.8 STM, it continues to be my main camera. I don't need 1000 focus points, I don't shoot in bursts, I don't care about shooting in the dark. And it is fortunate, because under these conditions the merits remain. I simply adore the naturalness of the images I get, the colour, the cleanliness. Has digital technology improved in recent years?, yes, but also no, IMHO.
Thanks for an another great review.Just shoot a few images recenttly, and very happy with them! ;).And as you, i tried to use my M1 to use the profiles, drive me crazy too! ;)
It’s great to see that you ain’t need everytime the latest and greatest to receive great results. Thanks for this video. May I ask which lenses beside the 50mm you did use? Have a great Sunday, cheers.
Just bought my second 5D classic. The mirror fell out of the first one. The latest buy has a serial number starting in 35xxx which has an updated mirror lcd screen and firmware allowing higher capacity cf cards. Have had brilliant results with the 40 mm 2.8 stm pancake. Just ordered the 24-85 f3.5-4.5 usm also. My only gripe is blowing out skies in landscape shots. But sharpness and color are great. Have also had satisfying results at iso 1600 indoors. Recently found that Canons free photo editing software corrects lens CA and distortion in computer using raw. I am using your recommended settings for jpegs. Could not mount an m42 50mm due to mirror involvement. What adapters are you using. Thanks for hooking me on this classic camera
I have just bought it 2 months ago for my girlfriend who wanted to start photography. I think with a nifty fifty, it is the best camera to learn photogprahy📸
Just bought both of these cameras. Had a D700 and sold it and regretted it. Just got one for good price with like 3300 shots on it and feel like I saved it! lol Never shot Canon before but hear all of the time about how iconic the 5D and its images are so looking forward to giving it a go. Today is my first time shooting one or other on a photo shoot (probably D700 as too heavy to take both LOL)
I feel like I'm following you in your coat tails! Last month the D700 with my D300...... this month your 5D with my EOS20D (similar vintage!) The 20D was my first serious digital camera, I've shot thousands of images with it. Then it got put to one side for some newer cameras. But recently I took it out again and started to enjoy it again, a lot like you have done with the 5D. The 20D is 'only' 8.3 MP, but just looking back through my photo library, that seems to be plenty enough. The lack of video on either the D300 or the 20D doesn't concern me at all. Once again thanks for a great review and insight in to the 5D.
I have always liked mine and highly appreciate that it uses the ef mount so good quality fast prime lenses are available but the size I have always found intimidating. With my small hands I find my go to tends to be micro 4/3 and I know I should learn to use my 5d classic to its full potential.
I loved your video, this is my first time on your channel, I have to say, you have charmed us, I own both cameras the 5DMi and the 5DMII, I love these two cameras, I also own the Nikon 750 I sold my D700 and I regretted it. 😞 But, I am thinking on getting another one. I also use few Sony cameras that are amazing, but in my opinion the Canon image quality is just unique. The "colour science" is just unique. Even Hollywood, BBC and other industries succumbed to the 5DMII's charm.
*TIPS*
Go for a late 2 serial number onwards as the screen was replaced for a newer one with better colours with a less green tint.
-
Try and get one where the previous owners have had the mirror fixed from the Canon recall. There are support bars installed which you can see on google images. If the mirror does fall out you can easily glue it back in
-
Install magic lantern and get focus peaking, highlight flash, saturation options on the screen, fast zoom and delete etc etc.
-
Nikon FE focus screens fit, whilst not perfect you can have split image focus.
-
Update firmware to the latest 1.1.1 which IS out there and getting harder to find. I have the folder in my computer.
-
Get a rocket blower to clean the sensor as there is no self cleaning sensor.
-
On custom functions turn in extended ISO to activate iso 50 (and 3200 which is awful).
-
Get the fastest CF card you can afford and don’t use the CF-SD adaptors as the quality control may cause the pins to bend inside.
-
Set the joystick on custom functions to change focus points, although only the centre point is of any use in reality.
-
Use iso 800 at all times if wanting to use B&W if you want an organic grain.
I know these cameras inside and out. If you want the fixed mirror, buy one with the reinforced bars, end of. They never used ‘better glue’ on the later ones!
which picture style is the best for colors?
(Note to self Canon 5d)
Actually don't mind shots taken with 3200. With a little bit of noise reduction in Lightroom, the shots can still shine.
@@NGameReviewsnot bad in good light, but if shooting in lower light and having to raise shadows even slightly, it turns to garbage!
Thank you! How do you install Magic Lantern?
This really hit home.I've been a serious photographer for more than 25 years and I always feel the pressure to keep up with all of the new technology, But when I look at my older images I realize that they are many of the best things I've ever shot. I recently purchased a Sony DSC-R1 - a strange but amazing hybrid.that came out in 2005 and shoots wonderful images - I bought one when it was released in 2005. This video is most beautiful video in your channel so far. The pictures make them so early 2000 vibes and nostalgic. These vibes have made me emotional.
In my humble opinion, it's the best camera made. I've had many "high end" cameras and sold them because there is something about this camera that far exceeds anything else out there
agree on that. This and 1Ds mark iii. simple, robust and with beautiful colors
Es una Camara que tiene algo especial.
Interesting to hear that. I’ve never used a 5D. Can you put into words what it is?
But the camera doesn't age as well as you x
Wow that intro roll up really gets me. It's like seeing a youthful soul manifesting in images.
Would love to see review of the original Canon 6D (Mark 1). Many people believe the IQ is similar to 5D classic but 6D has more buttons, better AF and above all a better LCD and viewfinder.
I got rid of the 5D because the LCD is very low res. and not usable (for me).
I was lucky to get the 5D with the updated LCD screen.
I love to tune in and discover all those wonderful cameras of the early days of digital photography. Your content is amazing.
Thank you so much! 🥰
How beautiful it is to see a video about cameras with such a distinguished lady.
Too kind :)
So kind thank you and yes, the 5D just has that je ne sais quoi.
Thank you! And totally agree with your thoughts and would have done the same if forced to choose.
5D from the video can be flashed to the latest version 1.1.1 this will support larger memory cards.
Greetings.
i TOTALLY agree-the 6D has some of the 5D mojo. yup!
always commented Mk1-5D on this channel, its a legend and still amazing, also worth noting in the menu you can use the jump button to flick through the Red, blue and Orange sections of options .
I feel you. 5D3 was my first real camera and nothing’s really touched it for me since (z7ii/z9, r5, a7iv).
I love the color files from the digital Canon & Olympus cameras & the Zuiko lenses are so good! Good video.
The SOC images from the 5d classic are very pleasing. Love this camera. So simple to use so you can focus on composition.
I’m happy to read this. I just picked up a 5D mark II for $100!!!
@@mhogue1963 wow, that’s quite the steal!
Great honest review. Lovely images at the start. Really enjoyed listening to you. Great stuff. Subscribed as a result. 👏👏
Thank you so much!
So glad i found this channel . Wonderfull reviews ! You have a nice personality and i really like the photos you take.
I loved this video. And the music made me feel so good and adventurous
Would you say, the markII has the same colour rendition, of the Classic?
Hot hot tip. White Balance can be changed on the fly by using the WB button on top right above the small LCD , used along with the control wheel. :-)
Omg this video was perfect timing, I just picked one up last week (in excellent condition!) with the battery grip for $200 local
The entire High Sierra Trail is the most beautiful in the backcountry, IMO. s.
love the 5D classic. and love this review especially as this camera is dear to my heart. This review is such a mood.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
for those looking into the comparison part of the video, i want folks to know this is kinda an apple to oranges comparison. the two cameras are 3 years apart on their release date and the d700 and 5dmark2 is a better comparison as they was released around the same time.
i do agree with most of the thoughts on the 5dmark1, the colors are amazing. i have both the 5dmark1 and 5dmark2 and i still prefer the mark1's color. the images produced definitely feels like film to me. before this camera i had a 40d for a couple of years and before that i shot with a canon ae1 for 15years. the 5dmark1 reminds me of my canon ae1 alot but just digital and updated tech. if i can get the 5dmark1 in a smaller package like the mirrorless cameras nowadays, i wouldn't need another camera.
Thank you for the video. To get to the lower sections of the menu there is a button “JUMP”😏
I am so glad you enjoyed! This camera is SO GREAT. Hope you enjoy yours when you grab one!
😂
Thank you so much for another video. and I‘ve been waiting for this video for a very long time, Ali. I've been using this camera body and nikon Ai lens for a few months. And nikon lens, i have to say, does a very good job with this body. And i custom a few settings that I really appreciate. Thanks for your sharing.
I know this is off topic but I love your style! You always look super cool
I’ve always loved Canon Color… Big reason why I still use my 5diii so much and just picked up a 5dsr
❤ Thank you!! Awesome vidio!!! I'm waiting for the story on camera Pentax k10D ❤❤❤.
i love your sssss remind me to my self cheers, and yeah about the 5D classic there is a bond between me and this camera i sold it few years after it came out then bought it again sold it again and it just keep coming back to me so finally i decided to keep it even if i will not gonna use it but it turned out i always use it, when i need natural look portraits, when i want to get great colors the only camera jumped into my mind is 5D.what is your favorite lens with it ?
At the time of this posting mpb has twenty 5D in stock from $139-$189.
Helpful!! Thanks for sharing.
Couldn’t agree with you more. New computers, I’m in cameras, are amazing, but I like a little challenge in my life ;)
@OneMonthTwoCameras Here,Here.
Loved this video, fantastic photos. I'm sold on the camera, just looking for a nice one now!
I use a 32GB CF card with my 5D without any issues (saw in another comment that you need the latest 1.1.1 firmware)
Eager to hear what you think of it!
Oh fun! I remember magic lantern but never tried it!
@@OneMonthTwoCamerasOn the first 5d, the firmware does not bring much, but a couple of functions are very useful)
Such a great camera and lens choice match-up indeed, the very formidable Canon 5D Classic fitted with the Canon 50mm 1.2L EF USM prime lens 😁
Good photography, so good! What you said about Canon colors being pleasing, it's true. I'mma get me one! Now I must check your D700 video. Thank you!
I made it through my MFA with that camera. The large format prints still look stunning.
💕
Out of curiosity, how large were the prints?
Oh my, that’s about the 3rd camera I bought after, or actually, WHILE watching your video about it... 🙈😊. Had been quite interested in it since getting more into dslr’s from that era and with this I couldn’t help but pull the trigger. Looking forward to try it!
Boy I loved that camera. Shot a bunch of weddings and portrait sessions with it. Gorgeous. And the conversions to B&W were crazy good. Miss it-wish I had not sold it.
It's a pretty amazing classic that very much still holds up.
The Classic is a true classic! Fat pixels, oozes film quality images, almost indestructible build, and the vast ef ecosystem of glass.
I have two, and love them best looking files also love the simplicity.
10000% ✨
Wonderful review! I ❤ this camera.
Thanks for an another great review.Just shoot a few images recenttly, and very happy with them! ;).And as you, i tried to use my M1 to use the profiles, drive me crazy too! ;)
Great video! If Canon came out with this camera new today, I'd buy two of them.
It’s great to see that you ain’t need everytime the latest and greatest to receive great results. Thanks for this video. May I ask which lenses beside the 50mm you did use? Have a great Sunday, cheers.
Wonderful review of this camera
She will love and treasure it. She won't want another.
I love it Steve!!
What is your take on the color science/sensor rendition of the classic vs the mk ii?
Thanks for stopping by!
