Hi Marcia, thanks for taking the time to comment. Let me start by saying that there are two things about this video that really surprise me. 1) How popular it is, especially compared to some of my other videos 2) How often I get asked why I put water in my coffee. In answer to your question, yes this is how I make a regular coffee and it's called either an Americano or an American. Here's the Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caff%C3%A8_americano In my adult life I've travelled to over 70 countries and many cities within and there's only two locations where I had to explain what an Americano was. The first, surprisingly, was in Milan, Italy and the second was in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Everywhere else, without fail, I was able to be served an Americano without any trouble. Here in the UK it is the 2nd most popular style of coffee, with a 22% share of the market, being beaten (only just) by the Flat White at 22.3% (learn.bluecoffeebox.com/the-uks-most-popular-coffees/) so it's exceedingly normal to take coffee this way. By contrast, an espresso, as would be natively supplied by a Nespresso machine has only 5.4% of the market. Or to put it another way, 300% more people drink Americano than Espresso, in the UK at least. Hopefully that helps give you the context for why you saw me make a coffee that way but I would like to end with a question if I may. What country are you from because presumably it's not somewhere I could get an Americano?
Thanks so much. I’ve been trying to decide which coffee maker. (I am American and don’t like super strong coffee either) I’ve been doing French press but had a cup of Starbucks the other day and realize that my coffee is sad. I think I’ll just get the old fashioned Nespresso to save money.
Hello. Sorry for interrupting but i think you dont need to pour the water from the kettle. You could just remove the capsule from your coffee machine and pour water straight from your Nespresso 😊
I had a vertuo that had been problematic since day one and after almost 2 years it finally became un-problematic, as I threw it away and buy fresh beans, grind them and make regular coffee. Now, that being said, I did like your video and may consider the original machine but as of this writing am leaning toward an espresso machine, full size. Thank for the video. I am aware it is over a year old but still very relevant.
Cheers Mike for taking the time to comment. I am glad I stepped away from my Vertuo machine and reverted to my Original machine. That said I used to have a Jura F7 bean-to-cup machine and it made great coffee but it was expensive and needed a lot of maintenance so Nespresso is the best compromise for me right now.
We have just bought our second Vertuo machine but both are the Plus models and not the next. One now for the caravan and one for the house. The main reason we chose the Next version is the opening and closing system, The motorised version of the Next is by far superior. As far as our coffee experience goes, we have had 4 "Original" machines so have had plenty of experience with them. As we both have milk in our coffees, My wife prefers the Cappuccino style and I prefer the flat white we found the depth of flavour 1 capsule compared to 1 capsule if far better in the Vertuo. I ended up using two capsules in the "Original" machine to get the same robust flavour in one of the Vertuo ones. The amount of water is adjustable in the Vertuo machines. You simply continue to hold the start button down until the right amount for you is extracted and let go. The machine from then on remembers that setting every time it reads that bar code. It can be adjusted again up or down in quantity depending on your liking. It only adjusts that capsule and all the others stay as they are set at the factory until and if you change the quantity. The crema really doesn't come into play that much if you use milk. The mouth feel of the coffee to us feels a bit more rich and creamy from the Veruo but that would be subtle at best.
I got both, Original are better it uses pressure system… Coffee Taste better more of espresso like. Unlike Vertuo it uses centrifugal, (spinning technique) where it can be compare to brewed coffee taste. It really depends on your preference with coffee. Do you like strong Espresso taste go for Original, or do you like drip, brewed coffee like or Keurig taste then pick Vertuo.
The volume on the mug can be changed by double pressing the brew button. Your mug sized coffee will come out as a Double Espresso, a Grand Lungo will come out as an Espresso, a Double Espresso will come out as a single Espresso and an Espresso will come out as a 25ml Ristretto using this feature. The taste will be more concentrated, since less water from the machine will be used
Excellent video and easy to understand the difference between the two machines with your side by side explanation. Thank you for taking the time to do the video. Wish I had seen this video prior to my ordering my Vertuo Next, as I would have bought the original instead. Since I just received the Vertuo, I will see how it works out. If all does not go well, I will return for the CitIZ original line. I like the fact that those original pods are less expensive and 3rd party capsules can be purchased to save some money. Bit of a coffee snob, as I enjoy a nice dark good roasted cup of coffee. Tired of doing Aeropress each morning (tried French Press, Hario pour overs and drip machine) so I am trying the “pod” system for the first time. Not sure this will be my “cup of tea”, but time will tell!
Thanks for taking the time to comment Hector and I am glad you found the video helpful. I hope you like your Vertuo machine but, as you say, there is always the Citiz if you don't.
I have an Original Line Creatista Plus from Breville, I like the variety of options from 3rd party capsules and the fact that it uses a Pressure based system which gives you a truer espresso experience
I have the same machine , had it for 4 yrs and it's had plenty of coffee/ milk through it and its only just stopped steaming, and just like to say Nespresso have been brilliant about it , £79 flat fee to fix it and whilst its being fixed sending me a unit to use ( I bought a milk frother for now ) as I am an expert buyer, again probably the best machine out there for ease of use with less messing about esp if you like me you like cappuccino coffees
This is the best video on this so far; so lucid and trustworthy. (The others I found were mostly click bait and did not compare!). You have an organic eloquence that I will now buy the 'original' - Thank you : )
I went on vacation recently and the room had the Citi machine. I LOVED the machine and coffee. I wish there was a machine that could use both capsules. I want the Citi machine but afraid they may try to stop selling the pods in order to push people to buy the other. I also used Peets pods with the Citi machine and it was delicious. No coffee scum.
Great to hear that you like the Citiz machine that you tried. I wouldn't be concerned about them not selling the pods going forward though - there's a massive installed user base of machines that take original capsules and the aftermarket will continue to serve it for years to come.
Great comparison. I am stuck as to which way to go. I drink 1 Iced Latte per day, if I had to brew a double espresso I would need to use 2 original line capsules. With the Vertuo I could just use a double espresso capsule, thus saving money. I understand the espresso is nicer out of the original line machines.
Hi, thanks for watching the video and taking time to comment. In your scenario the Vertuo should save you a little money and if you are happy to have the foam as part of your Iced Latte then all is good. The best thing to do would be to try a coffee from both machines and see which one you prefer - if the Original is more "you" then it might be worth paying a little more. Good luck!
@@qq-lg3dy I just stuck with the Aeropress, it makes nice iced lattes. I read a lot about Nespresso machines and some people said they used 2-4 capsules for larger lattes, I couldn't justify the cost of that.
great video. My normal nespresso machine broke down and I was wondering about the Virtuo. You resolved this problem and I will just look for a better normal machine now.
I love my Pixie original. Had one since 2016 and always been very satisfied with the coffee it makes. It’s the closest to the real thing that I have found. Also if someone wants an “americano” I just run the pod twice; kind of like you topping up with hot water. I’ve never tried the Vertuo and thankfully seeing your review I won’t be getting one anyway. I never liked the big bulky look and thanks to your review I don’t want to be controlled by a barcode either. I noticed the smaller range of coffee also. Thanks for the video.
Great to hear you like your Pixie Maxina and glad the video was helpful. Vertuo has its place for some customers but I hope Nestlé don't leave behind those of us who prefer the original system
Great video. I am with you and have stayed with my original line machine. I also like the fact that many retailers have their own compatible capsules available and can choose these based on personal preference/price.
Thanks and I appreciate you taking time to comment. I've recently been experimenting with a refillable Nespresso pod and it's been interesting to try something a little different.
I agree, I have an original and have tried a Vertuo and didn't like the coffee for the same reasons made. As per Hoffmann not impressed with Nespresso's own capsules, the best I found is Aldi's metal capsules.
@@krellman7 Welcome, my favourite is the Colombian and the Lungo when I feel like something less strong. Just make sure its the aluminium pods not the plastic.
Exactly what I was after. I currently have a barista express but most of the time I’m pulling an espresso and adding water. Perhaps once a week I’ll make a flat white, but for the size of the machine and the additional work involved in making a simple coffee I’m thinking of switching back to pods. Thanks bud.
Thank you so much for your in-depth review between the two. As someone who was a barista I enjoy using my coffee machine and steamer whenever I have the time and patience, but it's simply not ideal in the morning when I get ready for work. Been trying to decide on which machine to get and although I was already leaning more towards the original line, you further solidified my decision! Wishing you the best and once again, thank you for your review! :)
The only reason they made the virtuo was because the patent expired on the old one. Nespresso has been a money machine for them, but not due to the machines. You can get those below cost price in their promos. They make all their money on capsules. After the patent expired on the old model, this cash flow is drying out. Therefore they had to come up with the new system. For that reason alone, I would never switch over. I like the convinience and cost saving (and also quality improvement) from having a free market for my capsules.
I agree with you Torben and great to hear of another fan of the Original system. I had a coffee from a Vertuo machine today (at a friend's house) and it's definitely an inferior experience IMHO.
Thanks for that I always wondered, il stick with my original one then, I noticed they have some new flavours on the new pods they haven’t followed through with the original trying to temp us
Good video, very informative. I've been a member with Nespresso for 18 years and still not convinced with the vertuo, only maybe for the fact it isn't as noisy as the original but cost effective and for the fact you can't stop the machine when you want a very strong espresso, i'll stick with the original. Thanks for your video
The Virtuo doesn’t produce any crema and your analysis is spot on. The foam on the top is created by the speed that the pod spins at. Anyone buying a Nesprsso should stick with the original pods for a far better cup of coffee.
I have both because I prefer a larger cup of coffee with the vertuo line. And I felt like I was brewing two of the smaller ones to make one cup. So I got the vertuo, also it also makes that foam which I do like and then all you have to do is add milk. With the classic one I kept that one because sometimes people just want a shot of espresso and I can get other brands like cafe Bustelo, illy and other brands.
Thanks for taking the time to comment and it's good to hear that there are people for whom the Vertuo is ideal. I've never used two capsules in my Citiz so I would never benefit from that but I can see how it applies here. I hope it gives you many years of solid service.
What brilliant way you have shared differences about both options. I tried to find on Utube but cudnt find any useful video anyone has made. Thanks for sharing.
The biggest difference in price comes from the fact that the Vertuo system limits you to Nespresso pods, whilst the non-Nespresso pods can be considerably less expensive.
great no-nonsense review. I love my nespresso essenza mini and always buy Lungo size capsules (not espresso size) and often use two for a larger cup. It's still cheaper than buying coffee out. Sometimes I push the button twice on a capsule to get a larger, weaker brew. Just depends on what I'm in the mood for. I considered getting the vertuo system but now will not consider it as I like to be able to modify the water amount.
Thanks and I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I personally can't imagine having two capsules worth of coffee in one cup but that's the simplicity of the original Nespresso system - one can optimise it to suit most requirements.
Here I am, still using my Bifinet machine that is using grinded coffee or/and Senseo pads for my coffee. 36 pads for 3 Euro's in a 12 Euro machine/new. And it still function perfect after 20 years. Same machine can be found now under the DeLonghi branding at 139 Euros.
Thanks for the feedback and for taking the time to comment. Certainly I have no regrets selling my Vertuo machine shortly after posting the video and my original machine continues to do great service.
Your review was very insightful. My 7 year old original machine started acting badly. It was replaced with the Pixie Original machine. I did not care for the machine. The Pixie water reservoir & pod bin are smaller, thus more frequent upkeep. I found a lot of expresso collecting in the used pod bin. The expresso seemed very inconsistent so Nespresso sent me The Virtu plus machine. Yes the Virtu pods are more expensive but, for the most part i drink double espresso. Using one Virtu double espresso pod is 30c cheaper than two Original pods. I am looking forward to testing and learning more about my new machine.
I had a smaller machine before and the lack of water capacity was a nuisance for sure. Vertuo machines definitely seem to work well for those who take their coffee stronger because, as you've said, you only need one pod vs the Original. Good luck with it and I hope it gives you years of solid service.
Really helpful. As a Nespresso ambassador I’ll be sticking to the original and buying original capsules. Personal choice. I have tried other brands but I get on well with the nespresso capsules. We also use a recycle device too.
Just the video I was looking for. I have used fully automated espresso machine for many years (for adding whole beans). I will definitely go for the original, as I want to be able to by third party capsules. I the main reason for Nestle with the Vertuo system is to maintain this closed system.
Great video. I have the Virtuo Next. You almost convinced me to buy the original but not quite. It is worth watching. I do agree about the crema. That foamy stuff is unappealing visually and textual. I just don't like how it feels on my lips once the large bubbles start to form.
Hi Wilma, thanks for watching the video and leaving a comment. It's interesting to hear that you found the same as me re the "crema" but hopefully your machine will continue to serve you well.
Thank you so much for the great video! I am thinking about buying one recently however I am so confusing about the new Vertuo system and old one. And just like you, I dont think I will like the oily foam above the coffee! Now I understood the difference and I think I will buy the original system as well. Anyway...thanks again for the wonderful video!!
I am considering the Citiz as my first Nespresso machine. I like that it gives me more options for coffee pods outside of the Nespresso brand, but do wish Nespresso made more decaf options. The regular coffee pods are not an option for me. I welcome suggestions from anyone reading this who has found good decaf coffee pods (outside of the Nespresso brand) for a Nespresso Original line machine like the Citiz. Thank you for this video!
I dont know in your country, but in Spain for example you have different brands of supermarkets (Mercadona, Carrefour, Día, Alcampo, Consum, Eroski, Ahorramás, Hiber, Spar....)
I like the Vertuo because you can make a large cup of coffee. Plus, the invent of the foils and using my own coffee has saved me much money. I use Cafe Bustello expresso coffee and it's great.
did had a Nespresso Vertuo Next but had to return it because it's hard to closing and opening system, therefore got a VertuoPlus (just gentle touch it will automatically open and close ), and do find the taste better coffee, I also have Nespresso Citiz coffee maker, both lovin it
Hi Joyce, thanks for taking the time to watch my video. I'm glad you've said that you had trouble with the opening and closing as there have been some comments saying that I just wasn't doing it right and I was confident it wasn't user error on my part. Great to hear that the Vertuo Plus works well for you too - enjoy it!
Thanks for the video. I was considering the Vertuo machine because Nespresso is trying to give me one (if I buy 280 capsules). Now i know why they are giving the machines away.
The Vertuo machine certainly suits some people and so what I always say to people is to try a coffee from each of the machines and decide which one is best for you. Trouble is, that's quite hard to do here in the UK as Nespresso recently closed a load of their boutiques so now there are very few places you can sample the coffee of both machines side by side.
This is the revue I've been looking for, from someone who is unbiased and not a coffee snob. I've had several Lavazza machines over the years and like the coffee, but machines don't seem to last long. I bought a Nespresso Vertuo Pop from Amazon and just didn't like the head that is delivered on the coffee and the fact that the pods are not easy to come by. Luckily, the machine was faulty and was returned. The same as you, I prefer an Americano style and added extra water. After watching your vid, I'm sure the original is the machine for me. Cheers.
Thanks, that's great to hear. Interesting that your experience is similar to mine in that the machine I had prior to Nespresso was a Illy machine and like the Lavazza, it didn't last long before it started leaking water. I've had my Original machine now for 2.5 years and so far no problems at all.
I don't drink those types of coffee so I can't give an opinion. What I would say is try and find somebody/somewhere with one of the these machines and test it out as that's the only way to be certain it'll work for you. Good luck 👍
We were using a Jura D6 for the last 2 years but my wife and I usually only have 1 coffee in the morning each and sometimes a second later on. For that, the Jura is actually pretty expensive to maintain, the filters, milk pipe, cleaning and descaling tablets, etc add up to almost be the same price as the pods but with a lot more busy work vs just 1 button on Nespresso. We got a new Vertuo Next to replace the Jura last week and the coffee is incredibly bitter and rather gross (especially the fake crema). Upon trying to stop a pod after only a few seconds, it tastes pretty good! Because of this I'm thinking of just going with an Original Line since espresso will allow for a stronger taste and adding milk to cut down on some of the bitterness or acidity depending on the pod. Then we're paying quite a bit less for pods which adds up over time. I'm wondering how to decide between machine? They show the Inissia, Citiz Platinum, Pixie, and Essenza Mini, it says all are practically the same except that the Citiz Plantinum D is "new" and can make more sizes of coffee. Thanks!
I used to own a Jura (am F7 I think) and they are great machines but as you say, expensive and require some maintenance. Regarding the machines I used to have an Essenza Mini before upgrading to the Citiz. The Essenza Mini, the Pixie and the Inissia are all small machines and while the coffee they make (in my experience) is the same they hold less water and the used capsule bin is smaller. For us it's usually 5-6 coffees a day and I found I was always having to empty the bin and fill the water on the Essenza Mini so I'd say go for the Citiz Platinum. Good luck!
I was ready to buy Vertuo Plus thinking that my original died. Went on TH-cam and followed instructions for troubleshooting. Now it’s working great. I was still debating to buy the “newer” machine due to price cuts/discounts here in US. However, with your review I decided to just keep my original. Also, noticed that my original was manufactured in Switzerland. I wonder were the Virtuo machines are made. Thank you for your review!
Hi Maria, thanks for taking the time to comment and it's great to hear that you've got your original machine back working correctly. Enjoy your coffee!
I have the original at work and Vertuoplus at home. On the original I get organic single origin pods ins including Indian which has an intensity of 13: whereas in Veruoline I have to buy patented Nespresso pods. Also in US I can get the original for US 0.50 a pod delivered to my door with no delivery fees if 100 + pods. With vertuo it costs 0.98 to 1.25 a pod plus shipping
Certainly sounds very consistent to the UK regarding costs. Vertuo only available direct from Nespresso and more than twice the price of non-Nespresso original pods. I'm glad I tried Vertuo but I don't miss it and selling my machine was the right thing to do.
Yes you can. I was using Starbucks capsules last week (although they aren't that nice IMHO) and this week I am using capsules from Caffe Nero which are my preferred aftermarket choice. Both are aluminium so can be recycled via Nespresso as normal.
Excellent video, you did a fine comparison, I'm excited to order my first machine and I'm leaning towards the original machine with the better creme and availability of 3rd party pods is a no brainer.
Hi Francesca, it's a shame to hear that your husband's Vertuo machine isn't playing ball. Assuming you bought new it will still be covered by the warranty so you should seek redress through that. Good luck.
Solid review, mate! - I have been an original user for years til I decided to swap to Vertuo 11 months ago. Been really disappointed with the Vertuo esp. when it comes to the coffee drinking experience and ease-of-use brewing the things. Not at all the same as when I tried the demo in a Nespresso shop, where you really don't get a chance to experience that unappealing coffee froth if you leave it standing for more than a min or so. As I used it more and more over time, I ended up having to go through the extra task of scooping up the foam before it becomes too unsightly. This shouldn't be how we are to experience coffee. Btw, if you write to Nespresso they stand proudly by this tech... but for any person wanting to enjoy a coffee, this is not what we sign up for. Switching back to my orginial machine!
Thanks for taking the time to comment and your experience is exactly the same as mine was. I just couldn't get on with the foam and shortly after filming I sold my Vertuo machine and have never looked back.
Thanks. This is a really helpful video that answers the question 'should I change from original to vertuo?' Well presented and thankfully all content without a load of waffle at the start!
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it .☺️ I've been using the Vertuoline Nespresso for a month now, and trying all kinds of coffee recipes with it. From lattes, to afgagatos with ice cream, to milkshakes. 😊 But I think I'm the exact opposite of you. I can't get enough foam on my coffees. LOL. I LOVE all the foam the Vertua machines make AND then I usually add a lot of frothed milk on top. I adore my Vertuoline. But have not yet tried the Original line. Although I am about to try the Original capsules for the first time the day after tomorrow. Pretty exciting for me. I got the Wacaco Nanopresso with the NS (NS = Nespresso) adapter. It's a little manual machine that uses the Original Nespresso pods and is small and completely portable. I ordered one for work so I can have my Nespresso there. They say it makes good coffee too. But the last part of it is arriving tomorrow. So the day after I get to try my first Original capsules. Plus I got a free sleeve as a gift. I don't honestly imagine for me though that the Original capsules will be as wonderful for me as the Vertuo ones,. Even if I had the full size machine for them. I really love being able to make a wide variety of types of coffee, in a good variety of sizes. And the amount of foam is perfect for me. (once I add even more on top).😊 But there are also different flavours in both lines, so having both let's me try out more flavours. I kind of like having both, for that reason I don't personally worry about the size of the capsules. As here in Canada Nespresso has a vigourous recycling programme. It's easy and free to sent the used capsules back to Nespresso and they recycle them all and reuse them again. All of mine will be going back. They say thealuminum pods are infinitely recyclable and there is no point where aluminum becomes no longer recyclable. Plus all the bags....and what you need to send it back is all free.
Hi Barbara, thanks for watching my video and taking the time to comment. It's great to hear that you like the Vertuo line and the fact that you like the foam and the variety of sizes makes it perfect for you. I think both systems have their benefits and it's right that consumers have the choice. I hope Nespresso don't try to force everybody on to the Vertuo platform though as that would alienate a lot of existing customers. Good luck with your experiment using the Original capsules - I hope it goes well.
@@MostlyHelpful i'm with you there. And I know a lot of people are. I know a lot of people too who like to use both Original and Vertuo capsules as each has some different flavours and people don't want to give up their favourites. I think both machines have a use and fans of that system. I hope they keep them both as well. There is definitely a demand for both machines. Just tried my very first Original Capsule today and it was fun too. 😀
Hi Jon, thanks for watching the video and taking time to comment. It's interesting to hear that you came to same conclusion as me. I think "people" fall in to the trap of thinking that anything newer must be better and in cases like this, as you've discovered, that isn't how it is. Enjoy your coffee!
I make my coffee exactly the same as you! Not weird. I'm just wondering why you don't just run hot water through your Nespresso machine-no need for a second pot for hot water.
I've been asked this a few times and it's it's simply because I am usually also making my wife a cup of tea, so the kettle will have been boiled. I used the kettle during filming out of habit rather than for any other reason!
The difference in volume is stark. I have a Vertuo Plus on my desk at work - that smaller machine would be too loud and the coffee too diluted or two pods needed.
I assume you mean volume as in loudness and certainly the Original is noticeably the louder of the two. I can't imagine having a coffee machine on my desk though - getting up to get a coffee allows me to stretch my legs, which is most welcome.
@@MostlyHelpful The Vertuo Plus is very quiet hence it works on the desk. I have a Vertuo Next at home which is smaller with the manual lock lever and it's so loud it wouldn't work in the office. I make coffees for colleagues as the work coffee machines taste more like gravy. The Vertuo you demonstrated does do water top ups - you just have to slide the lock lever about 1 cm and back again without ejecting the pod and it will run again so you can stop it when you've topped it up to where you want.
I have just purchased a nesspresso original pod compatible machine. It uses any of the compatible pods, including the XL ones L’or make and it makes decent coffee. I previously had a tassimo and it was nowhere near as economical to run. We have a bean to cup, so that is for making more fancy stuff, the nesspresso is to get a quick cup during the day and I’m loving the taste, variety (a bag of beans is hard to change mid bag, capsules are whatever you have in your hand) and you can get variations because the machine doesn’t over think the process. Tassimo was hard to get cheap pods for and the coffee was lacklustre most of the time.
That's great to hear that you are enjoying your machine. I've used Tassimo a few times over the years, but like you, I don't rate the coffee they produce either.
Sitho. As long as expresso is concerned there is no difference between both systems excepte Vertuo pods are more expensive. But a Vertuo machine will make a better extra long coffee. If you like expresso the original should be your choice, if you like long coffee look at the Vertuo.
Can I just say , my friend bought the Vertuo machine and it broke down about a month later so not that good, apparently a well known issue . I prefer milk steamer so bought a sage and wow that is one good machine
I've heard this a lot regarding the Vertuo machines too, although it didn't happen to mine. Good to hear that you are getting on well with your Sage machine.
Thanks Dee, glad you liked it. I don't have a thermometer so I can't measure them but based on the drinks it produces I would say the Original machine is hotter.
Hi thanks for the good reviews. I brought the Nespresso Vertue Plus. £89.00 pounds with free 50 Capsules.👍 I know everyone complaining about the price per capsule. But you must look at the way how much your saving. I only drink to latte a day. So basically £1.04. for 2 Latte. Starbucks or Costa £8.00 . It's a Win Win☺️👍
Hi Stevo, thanks for taking the time to comment. I got a similar deal on my Vertuo machine but it is an unescapable fact that Vertuo capsules are more expensive than Original ones once you've used your free capsules. But yes, either option is much cheaper that buying those same drinks from one of the high street outlets.
Thank you for this review. If I had choice in between these machines like you had for pretty much same price I would go for classic but I had easy choice- £50 Vertuo Machine with 12 capsules and extra 30 as promotion from Nespresso that’s very good deal !
Thanks so much for a great video. You've made up my mind to go for the original. The crema for me is the deal breaker. I would have been really disappointed if i had gone with the Virtuo and had foam like that.
Thanks Eoin for taking the time to leave a comment. Certainly I have no regrets with staying with the Original system. I had a Vertuo coffee recently at a friend's house and that was timely reminder that I made the right decision.
The simple truth is that the Virtuo system was Nestle’s response to knock off capsules which it could not patent . It is now virtually impossible to buy a new original machine as Nestle are trying to kill it. The best option is a Lavassa unit which mimics the original Nestle unit at substantially lower cost for both the unit and capsules with arguably better coffee .
Hi Keith, thanks for the info re Lavazza, I'll take a look. Regarding your point about it being virtually impossible to buy an original machine, I don't know where you live but on Amazon UK there's still plenty of choice. Like this one for example: amzn.to/3U42JZj
@@MostlyHelpful I was recently in the UK , tried to buy a replacement original Nespresso machine and found even on Amazon that they were”not available” like the unit shown in your response, one or two single cup machines were listed but at well over £100.
We bought the Vertuo and after the 3rd time sending it in for repairs(within 6 months) we were given the option to trade it in for the CitiZ, we did the trade and have not looked back, we find the CitiZ works so much better(Citi running for a year now and doing well)
i have a Citiz and now also a old vertuo flatop for a week. Its fun to use. You can also program how big you want your coffee. i don't know why ppl say you can't with the vertuo machines. However i don't find the coffee better. Infact the original capsules are better & less expensive. Only tried 15 vertuo flavours so i yet have to find "the one".
Thanks and I appreciate the comment. In the video I mentioned that cup size wasn't variable because I hadn't read the instructions all the way through. It's not referenced anywhere on the packaging and it's relatively far back in the user guide (Page 74 of 81 pages in the case of the Vertuo Next) so I suspect most people, me included, will assume it can't be done, especially since the capsules are "sized" to the type of coffee.
Okay, I'm a nerd. I'm thoroughly impressed by your investigation. I agree with your conclusion. You don't expressly say it, but I get the impression that you believe that Nespresso is perpetrating a fraud on consumers. I have a Vertuo Plus. I love the taste and the convenience. It actually saves me hundreds of dollars per year in visits I no longer make to my neighborhood Starbucks. I make my own specialty drinks daily. Nespresso, with the Vertuo pods, has become a more responsible corporate actor with regard to the sourcing of their coffees and the sustainability of their pods.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Nespresso are in the business of making money from their coffee machine/pod ecosystem and I can't blame them for that. However the way that they are effectively ignoring their original machines and heavily promoting the Vertuo machines limits customer choice and it's that which I have an issue with. I would prefer them to actively sell both machines side by side so the customer can decide what style of coffee suits them best.
Finally! A review that is in depth and I can trust. Thanks, I have used the original before and fell in love. I also like the options of going outside of nestles catalog of coffee.
Thanks for the comment Timothy and my advice would always be to stick with the Original system - better coffee and as you say, it allows you to explore other coffee maker options.
Thanks for your video.I have both machines and agree with your conclusions. The pressure system (original) gives a better expresso shot. Cost wise you can buy 2 sleeves of STARBUCKS capsules from ASDA for £5, thats 25p per shot and they contain 5.7g of coffee which makes a lungo shot of 110 ml.These capsules are made by NESPRESSO so no compromise on quality.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Robert and glad you liked the video. I have friends who have the Vertuo machine so occasionally I get to experience it which is great for reminding me why I stuck with the original.
Hi James, many thanks. I automatically assumed that the later machine would produce superior coffee but I concur with your view of the excessive aeration and will stick with an original. I was just about to purchase and stumbled on your review, so thanks again.
Thanks James for taking the time to comment and glad the video was useful. I always encourage people to try the Vertuo system in case the coffee is the style they like it but sounds like you know you won't enjoy the aeration process. Certainly I have no regrets after selling my Vertuo machine and I'm still very happy with my original machine.
That's great to hear. We don't get Podista here in the UK (that I can tell) but we have some similar aftermarket brands. Currently I use Caffe Nero pods which give me the flavour I'm after and are cheaper than legit Nespresso pods.
Thanks for the video.Very informative. However, I do think that you should be making a distinction between the two (now three) different types of Vertuo machines. The first one that I had was the Vertuo PLUS.It was great because it had the easy motorised operation to open the replace the pod. Then I purchased a Vertuo NEXT-this Vertuo machine has the manual method to open to allow the pod to be put in, which I had so much difficulty using; also it was far more foamy than the Vertuo Plus. After 2 Vertuo NEXT machines stopped working, finally Nespresso agreed to replace the Vertuo Next with a Vertuo plus. The Vertuo plus makes far superior coffee than the Vertuo NEXT and is much more reliable. Nespresso has now brought out the Vertuo POP machine, much smaller and in many colours but again using a manual machine opener which I think is difficult to use and just Nespresso saving money on the nice motorised opening to put pods in/out which is used in the Vertuo PLUS My advice is to steer clear of the Vertuo NEXT (I can’t believe that Nespresso is still selling these-in Australia, anyway) and buy the Vertuo PLUS which is easy to open/close and is far more reliable and most importantly, makes better coffee!. The Vertuo capsules are expensive though but I am the only one using the machine once a day so it’s not too bad
I'm glad you found the video useful and thanks for the insight on your own Vertuo experiences. You make a valid point re the different machines but there's two points to note. Firstly, at the time of the recording the Vertuo POP wasn't on the market in the UK and this is the first time I've heard about it. Secondly I am not sponsored, nor given the products to review so everything you see if paid for with my own money and I'm not going to buy things just to review them. In the end the additional cost of the Vertuo pods and the inferior coffee meant that I was happy to continue to use my Citiz and original capsules.
The Vertuo Next is just launched in Malaysia. I have been using Latissima Touch and Essenza Mini for almost 5 years. Was thinking of getting this Vertuo but after watching your video, I may just stay with the current machine. I did watch Hoffman video as well but that does not give the comparison between both machines. Thanks for the informative video.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Mohammad. What I would say is try out the coffee from a Vertuo machine and see if you like it. Some people say they prefer it to the coffee from the original system.
@@MostlyHelpful may be I should try. However, since I have two of the original machines and about 150 capsules around, it may take sometimes before I go and try it. 😊
Why do you use a kettle to top up your coffee with water rather than the Nespresso machine itself? All the tutorials suggest you top up your espresso or lungo shots with water using the machine.
It's a no brainer if you are happy with the coffee it makes. Personally, even at £57, I wouldn't buy it as I don't like the coffee these Vertuo machines make. I rather just buy ground coffee and use a cafetiere than go back to Vertuo.
I understand. I used a french press for years until the Virtuo Plus. That lasted 2 years. I just got the Next and it's even better. I have a 1966 La Pavoni pressure brewer that I use when I fancy a bit of froth...fantastic steam punk machine but filters and cafetieres? Never!
Thanks for taking the time to comment and I'm glad you found the video useful. I am surprised by the number of people criticising my Americano making in the comments though, especially given it's one of the most popular ways to take coffee.
Thanks for the review. I have a 15 year old Nespresso Essenza (original line) that still fits the bill when I want a short of espresso. My daughter has a Vertuo machine and I just don’t find the coffee appealing. It is only marginally better than a K-Cup which is the prevalent capsule format here in the US. If you want a nice large cup of great coffee then you shouldn’t be using a Vertuo. Buy some quality beans, get a burr grinder, grind before you brew, brew in an SCA approved coffee brewer like the Bonavita Connoisseur (consistent optimal 12:33 temperature, consistent time) and enjoy. You can’t come close even if your Vertuo spins the capsule at 1000 RPM.
Hi Jack, thanks for the comment and it's great to hear that your Essenza has given many years of faithful service. I was glad to have sold my Vertuo machine after my "experiment" with it and I don't regret it.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Taste and its preference is a very personal thing especially given all the different coffee styles so I always advise people to try first, then decide.
Great video. But I am left with one question. I currently have the Nespresso plus but was looking into an original line machine. I always drink a double shot espresso ( make into a latte). If I buy the original line- will I have to use 2 espresso pods to be comparative to the double espresso pod with the Vertuo line???
Thanks for the comment. Yes, based on the comments from others you need two original pods to get a double espresso. I never drink coffee that strong so I have never done it/needed to do it. I would encourage you a try out both machines though and see if the double espresso Vertuo option is to your taste. It might work out cheaper than 2 x original pods, but if you don't like the coffee that it produces then it won't matter.
Where do I find the same exact Citiz on this video? When I search the link that you posted, they offer different colors but not the same exact one in your review
If you like a very large black espresso, the Lavazza Jolie might be suitable. It keeps making coffee till you press a stop button. The Lavazza capsules contain 7.5g of coffee, vs 5g for Nespresso original. The machine and capsules are cheap and IMO the coffee is MUCH better than my old Creatista made (I now use it as a milk frother only). IMO this might be because the capsules are shallow (like the vertuo ones) and the perforations are large and well spaced (unlike the vertuo, where they are all near the edge) meaning all the Lavazza capsule coffee is steamed, and all the flavour extracted. The lavazza coffee is said to be a little hotter than Nespresso too.
Thanks David, it sounds interesting and I would be keen to try one. Maybe I'll get a 2nd hand one in to do a side by side comparison with my Nespresso Citiz?
It's nice and easy. Put your desired cup size under the spout then, once the machine is warm, press and hold the button until the cup is filled to where you want, and then release. That then sets the level of water for that button. I do this all the time on the machines in hotel rooms because they never programme the water level for the size of cup. Let me know how you get on. 👍
I would absolutely recommend that you try both the original system and the Vertuo system since they produce a different style of coffee (the former gives a coffee with crema, the latter gives a coffee with foam). Once you've done that then choose the machine based on your needs with respect to water capacity and whether you need/want milk foaming ability. The Citiz is/was their most popular machine in a pre Vertuo world and I would happily recommend it if you want a medium capacity device without milk foaming.
Two things from my experience: On my Virtuo Plus I can run a capsule pod twice. Second, the Virtuo Plus has pods that make a 5 and 7 oz cup of coffee, which I found to be way more than the old small capsules. Nespresso sends free recycle bags to send them the used Plus Pods, which is nice.
@@krehbein Just put the pod back in the machine, as though it was the first time. I’ve only had one pod reject, others run twice. And yes, the second brew is weaker, but it mixes with the first stronger brew.
I regret getting my Vertuo machine over an Original. I mostly use it for single and double shot espressos, so I get little to no use out of the ability to brew a larger cup of coffee. It would have been nice have more options from other brands, and i definitely find the crema to be far too much on the Vertuo.
Usually I eject my capsule on my OL machines as it makes them stop dripping, but I've noticed that when I do it on that specific OL machine in the video, the following coffee will be preceeded by about one second of pure water flow. so it only likes to go from capsule to capsule, never eject leaving the loader empty. don't know if you had a similar experience.
I've certainly had it where it initially flows water, but I hadn't correlated it with the capsule having been ejected (or not) so I'll keep an eye out. Seems odd though, certainly.
I've never used the refillable pods but I am glad to hear they work well for you. I had a coffee from a Vertuo machine today (at a friend's house) and the foam was ever present. As you say, it's a pain.
About 10 yrs ago because I made awful coffee I decided to buy a K machine for when I had visitors. We went to a specialty store to see the K coffee maker. The sales lady said it grew stale if you didn't use within a certain time. I didn't drink coffee to paraphrase Dr. Seuss, I will not drink it in a cup, I will not drink it in a mug, I will not drink it loaded with cream and sugar. However did love the smell of it especially when camping. Her answer was that I had never tasted good coffee and she showed me to the cutest little machine I had ever see and proceeded to make e about 4 sample tastings and I was hooked. It was black coffee and age 70 I fell in love with coffee that had a natural sweet flavor and NO strong bitter flavor. My Pixie was one of the best buys I have ever made and the sales lady even showed me how to make hot chocolate with the brother. PS. The aroma of the coffee spread all over the store and before you knew it there was a line of people wanting their sample of coffee. Oh one more reason I love this little machine over the Nesspresso virtuo is that some mornings I get 2 hard boiled eggs out of the frig place them in a cup and because there isn't a code I press the hot button and cold eggs get warmed. The pixie always goes in its own little wheeledcarrier on vacations . This year it's going to the San Jose SciCon.
Thanks Kathy and great to hear that your Pixie has served you well. I still have my Essenza Mini (similar to a Pixie) currently packaged up ready for when I get my own workshop/office. A great machine.
You are right regarding the buttons for sure. Out of interest if you had an original Nespresso machine in front of you and somebody asked for a double espresso how would you do it? Use two pods?
I saw you pour water in your mug what was going on? Is that how you make a regular cup of coffee?
Hi Marcia, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Let me start by saying that there are two things about this video that really surprise me.
1) How popular it is, especially compared to some of my other videos
2) How often I get asked why I put water in my coffee.
In answer to your question, yes this is how I make a regular coffee and it's called either an Americano or an American. Here's the Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caff%C3%A8_americano
In my adult life I've travelled to over 70 countries and many cities within and there's only two locations where I had to explain what an Americano was.
I think I’ll just get the old fashioned Nespresso to save money.
he clearly explained this already in the video!
Hello. Sorry for interrupting but i think you dont need to pour the water from the kettle. You could just remove the capsule from your coffee machine and pour water straight from your Nespresso 😊
Thought so too, but now I understand.
Hi Ralph, thanks for taking the time and it's great to hear that you getting on well with your Vertuo machines.
I had a next. Leaked terribly. Returned it to the store. Now have a plus and a essenza.
I absolutely CANNOT agree more. The Plus model is a big difference in the way I appreciate my brewing from the Next model they have at my office.
You can adjust the water also on the Citiz.
How is the temperature of the coffee with this machine?
Thanks! Very helpful indeed. Also I had to filter trough a bunch of cashcow channels to get to an actual genuine review.
Thanks, and glad you found it helpful. It's a shame about those channels but I'm pleased you found my review in the end.
Why a trough? Were you feeding farm animals?
Best video I've found on these models, thank you for taking the time to make it.
That's my pleasure and thank you taking the time to leave a comment.
The taste will be more concentrated, since less water from the machine will be used
Thanks for the comment and the additional info. I sold my Vertuo machine shortly after making the video so just have the original now.
Sounds like you've got a good machine there Jose and thanks for taking the time to comment.
You have an organic eloquence that I will now buy the 'original' - Thank you : )
Thanks, it's really good of you to say and I really appreciate it.
Good luck!
@@MostlyHelpful Thank you :) I am currently using an Aeropress, which is actually very good I am just honing my doses to try get consistency.
Which espresso did you end up getting? I have the same dilemma
Thanks Deborah, I'm glad you found it helpful. Good luck with your search for a new machine.
Well said - this is the best video on comparison so far ( not just click bait like some of them ).
Me too
The vertuo plus is better than the vertuo next.
I have watched alot of videos for the difference of both machines, this is the only video that helped me to decide which one I go for
Thank you Rari, I glad to hear it helped and I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
I bought the original about 2 months ago. I definitely prefer it over the Vertuo line.
Hi Marian, thanks for taking the time to comment and good to hear that you have found the same as me. Enjoy it!
@@matthewn1805 Thank you for the info on the capsules at Aldi’s. I wasn’t aware they had them. I will definitely give them a try.
@@krellman7 Welcome, my favourite is the Colombian and the Lungo when I feel like something less strong. Just make sure its the aluminium pods not the plastic.
@@MostlyHelpful how did you find the refill capsules please? I have also tried adding boiling water to my cup and I quite like it.
Exactly what I was after. I currently have a barista express but most of the time I’m pulling an espresso and adding water. Perhaps once a week I’ll make a flat white, but for the size of the machine and the additional work involved in making a simple coffee I’m thinking of switching back to pods.
Thanks bud.
That's great to hear Ryan and thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍
Thanks Karmen for taking the time to comment and great to hear that you liked the video. I hope the original machine you buy gives you great coffee!
Just wanted to say thank you for the nice modest comparison and I enjoyed the video.
That's great to hear, thank you!
Thanks for that I always wondered, il stick with my original one then, I noticed they have some new flavours on the new pods they haven’t followed through with the original trying to temp us
No they didn't at all
Good video, very informative. I've been a member with Nespresso for 18 years and still not convinced with the vertuo, only maybe for the fact it isn't as noisy as the original but cost effective and for the fact you can't stop the machine when you want a very strong espresso, i'll stick with the original. Thanks for your video
Hi Julie, thanks for taking the time to comment and glad you found the video informative.
You can though. Hold the button until the water reach the level you desire then let go & it will remember for that particular pod next time.
Thank you , good to know that! I’ll have to change eventually to vertuo one day!
Many thanks for taking time to comment and I'm glad you found it useful. Enjoy that coffee!
The biggest difference in price comes from the fact that the Vertuo system limits you to Nespresso pods, whilst the non-Nespresso pods can be considerably less expensive.
I don't disagree and I suspect there are lots of businesses that would love to have control of their own closed ecosystem like that.
great no-nonsense review.
Its possible to hold the button after a pod is finished, this will run the pod and fills your cup of coffee untill you let go of the button.
Very happy with this review, it had exactly what I needed to know definitely giving this a thumbs up good job.
Appreciate the comment, thanks. 👍
Always nice to hear of a machine giving great service after all these years - long may it continue 👍
Very well done. I canceled my Vertuo order because of your video. James Hoffman is the man!
Love that recycle device - will definitely check it out 👍
Just the video I was looking for. I have used fully automated espresso machine for many years (for adding whole beans). I will definitely go for the original, as I want to be able to by third party capsules. I the main reason for Nestle with the Vertuo system is to maintain this closed system.
Hi Kim, thanks for taking the time to comment and good luck with your machine as and when you get one.
Hi, thanks for watching the video and glad you found it helpful. Good luck with you machine!
I think lor barista have a lot of decaf pods
I have one of the first Vertuo's and I can manipulate the amount of water by adjusting the lid. The lid also opens and closes on a different way.
I've long since sold my Vertuo machine but I have since learnt there is a way to adjust water volume on this model too.
I like the Vertuo because you can make a large cup of coffee. Plus, the invent of the foils and using my own coffee has saved me much money. I use Cafe Bustello expresso coffee and it's great.
Great to hear it works for you Greg and thanks for taking the time to comment.
Hi, did you buy a reusable pod ?
did had a Nespresso Vertuo Next but had to return it because it's hard to closing and opening system, therefore got a VertuoPlus (just gentle touch it will automatically open and close ), and do find the taste better coffee, I also have Nespresso Citiz coffee maker, both lovin it
Hi Joyce, thanks for taking the time to watch my video.
@@MostlyHelpful I bought a Magimix CitiZ and love it, Cheers.
Thank you for your review. In your opinion, what’s the best for drinks like ice vanilla latte or macchiato or latte?
I don't drink those types of coffee so I can't give an opinion. What I would say is try and find somebody/somewhere with one of the these machines and test it out as that's the only way to be certain it'll work for you. Good luck 👍
I had my machine for more than 3 yrs and I am happy, excellent explanation thanks !!
That's great to hear and thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍
In the original machine can you use capsule from a different brand? For example a starbucks capsule?
Yes you can. I was using Starbucks capsules last week (although they aren't that nice IMHO) and this week I am using capsules from Caffe Nero which are my preferred aftermarket choice. Both are aluminium so can be recycled via Nespresso as normal.
Excellent video, you did a fine comparison, I'm excited to order my first machine and I'm leaning towards the original machine with the better creme and availability of 3rd party pods is a no brainer.
Thanks for watching the video and taking time to comment and I'm glad you liked it. Good luck with your new machine!
I git the verturo next for my husband at Christmas it maybe worked one month then began having problems it now doesn't make coffee at all
Hi Francesca, it's a shame to hear that your husband's Vertuo machine isn't playing ball.
Thanks you Tim, very good of you to say and I appreciate you taking time to leave a comment.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it .☺️
I've been using the Vertuoline Nespresso for a month now, and trying all kinds of coffee recipes with it. From lattes, to afgagatos with ice cream, to milkshakes. 😊
But I think I'm the exact opposite of you.
(once I add even more on top).😊
But there are also different flavours in both lines, so having both let's me try out more flavours. I kind of like having both, for that reason
I don't personally worry about the size of the capsules.
Had a vertuo for a presentation used it for a year but gone back to original half priced coffee and tasted better. Verbose now in cupboard
Hi Jon, thanks for watching the video and taking time to comment. It's interesting to hear that you came to same conclusion as me. I think "people" fall in to the trap of thinking that anything newer must be better and in cases like this, as you've discovered, that isn't how it is. Enjoy your coffee!
@@MostlyHelpful Must turn predictive off!
Great video.
Couldn't figure out the actual differences between the two machines.
Thanks.
Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment and I'm glad it was useful.
Very good review, thanks, glad it was a genuine opinion and not a "paid ad". Thanks.😊
Great video! Which original machine brews the hottest? Thx
Thanks Dee, glad you liked it. I don't have a thermometer so I can't measure them but based on the drinks it produces I would say the Original machine is hotter.
Hi thanks for the good reviews.
I brought the Nespresso Vertue Plus.
£89.00 pounds with free 50 Capsules.👍
I know everyone complaining about the price per capsule.
Thanks Christopher and, assuming you like the coffee it makes, it sounds like the Vertuo machine is a great choice.
@@MostlyHelpful My machine is arriving on Monday and I can't wait! Thanks again for the great video :-)
Great video thanks for sharing your thoughts on both machines
No problem and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. 👍
A really helpful guide, to both of these machines..
I think the original will serve us better in the long run.
Glad you found it helpful and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. 👍
We bought the Vertuo and after the 3rd time sending it in for repairs(within 6 months) we were given the option to trade it in for the CitiZ, we did the trade and have not looked back, we find the CitiZ works so much better(Citi running for a year now and doing well)
That's a shame about the Vertuo Gary, but great to hear that the Citiz is working well for you. 👍
i have a Citiz and now also a old vertuo flatop for a week.
@@MostlyHelpful fair enough :)
When does the patient end on the newer Vertuo pods? So then I can buy anywhere.
It's a good question and I don't know. Some locations (e.g. Canada) you can already buy aftermarket Vertuo pods so it's coming for sure.
I love the " Podista Coffee Pods Intenso "12 strength. For the CitiZ & milk.
That's great to hear. We don't get Podista here in the UK (that I can tell) but we have some similar aftermarket brands. Currently I use Caffe Nero pods which give me the flavour I'm after and are cheaper than legit Nespresso pods.
Nice video, was thinking but will stick to the old system, it's perfect.
Thanks and having decided to stick with my original system I have no regrets.
Nespresso has now brought out the Vertuo POP machine, much smaller and in many colours but again using a manual machine opener which I think is difficult to use and just Nespresso saving money on the nice motorised opening to put pods in/out which is used in the Vertuo PLUS
My advice is to steer clear of the Vertuo NEXT (I can’t believe that Nespresso is still selling these-in Australia, anyway) and buy the Vertuo PLUS which is easy to open/close and is far more reliable and most importantly, makes better coffee!.
I’ve heard the NEXT is terrible nothing but problems I purchased a PLUS
Why do you use a kettle to top up your coffee with water rather than the Nespresso machine itself? All the tutorials suggest you top up your espresso or lungo shots with water using the machine.
It's usually because I am already boiling a kettle to make my wife a cup of tea, so it's quicker. Thanks for watching the video.
Thank you for this video , I was about to just buy the newer version assuming it would be better , but I agree with your point of view and opinion
Thanks for taking the time to comment. If you can do try both machines and see which one you prefer.
The virtuo Next is now on Amazon Prime for £57. It's a no brainer at that rate.
Never!
Very helpful in making my decision. Thank you! And don’t let anyone tell you there’s anything wrong with an Americano, especially if made well.
Thanks for taking the time to comment and I'm glad you found the video useful. I am surprised by the number of people criticising my Americano making in the comments though, especially given it's one of the most popular ways to take coffee.
Great video! It was really usefull for me. Thank you!
That's great to hear and thanks for letting me know.
I really appreciate the fact that you gave zero comments on the difference in flavor between the machines 👍🏻
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Taste and its preference is a very personal thing especially given all the different coffee styles so I always advise people to try first, then decide.
can you use double espresso pods with 40ml on vertuo
My understanding is you get the amount of water that is consistent with the pod size. But I've since sold this machine, so I can't check.
Depending on which country you are in, it may be that this colourway isn't sold where you are.
@@MostlyHelpful Ty
@@ep3360 No problem 👍
4:35 pls tell us how to program those buttons to 80ml . I would love if it could make a double espresso. Couldn’t find anyone else talk about this
It's nice and easy. Put your desired cup size under the spout then, once the machine is warm, press and hold the button until the cup is filled to where you want, and then release. That then sets the level of water for that button. I do this all the time on the machines in hotel rooms because they never programme the water level for the size of cup. Let me know how you get on. 👍
Which would you recommend for a 1st timer to purchase? There are so many models..
Thanks for the comment and that's good to know for Vertuo owners.
How do you run the pod twice? Another video said they’re single use.
@@krehbein Just put the pod back in the machine, as though it was the first time. I’ve only had one pod reject, others run twice. And yes, the second brew is weaker, but it mixes with the first stronger brew.
@@danf321 good to know, thx
With the Vertuo, I have one and I find that the “crema” takes the appearance of sea foam.
That's a good description, certainly. 👍
I regret getting my Vertuo machine over an Original. I mostly use it for single and double shot espressos, so I get little to no use out of the ability to brew a larger cup of coffee. It would have been nice have more options from other brands, and i definitely find the crema to be far too much on the Vertuo.
For what it's worth, I had no trouble selling mine on - there seems to be plenty of demand for them, in the UK at least.
Excellect video. A may I just stop for a second and comment how lovely and soothing your voice is? :D
Thank you Lady Ruby, on both counts!
can i use the small pod(the one you used in original )) in Nespresso virtue??
No, unfortunately you can't. The Vertuo machines can only accept Vertuo capsules and original machines can only accept original capsules.
I fill up my pods with my own Columbian coffee. You are right about the foam which is a pain. But reusing the pods with my own coffee is excellent.
Great video, super informative and it's helping me make an informed decision on which machine to buy, thank you.
Hi William, thanks for watching the video and taking time to comment. I'm glad it was useful and good luck with whichever machine to decide to go for.
In Houston, TX - HEB stores carry Nespresso Vertuo pods from Starbucks as well as for the original lines.
Hi Alex, that's some great info - thanks for sharing.
There's no double espresso button on the original, it's either espresso or lungo, which is not a double espresso.
You are right regarding the buttons for sure. Out of interest if you had an original Nespresso machine in front of you and somebody asked for a double espresso how would you do it? Use two pods?
@@MostlyHelpful I'd do two espresso pods. In "coffee hipster's" world even their single espresso is more like lungo...
