    Here's a mnemonic for remembering the functions of a Swiss Champ Knife: just for fun.
    "Bottles, cans, and magnifying glasses, oh my!
    Phillips screwdrivers and pliers to apply,
    Scissors, scalers, and saws that will cut,
    Files and blades to sharpen and strut.
    On the other side, a corkscrew to pop,
    A chisel, flat screwdriver, hook, and punch to swap."

    Anne, people like your personality and subject matter. It was also nice to interact with you in comments. From the way I have seen the channel grow, responding to everyone will become overwhelming. On a side note, your wit is great! Telling me I just gave everyone permission to buy more knives because I buy two at a time. You had me rolling. I doubt your husband will be in agreement though! Great video!

      Oh! And my husband is glad for the excuse to buy backups of his OWN tools!

    Thanks for the video. A 1991/92 SwissChamp was my first SAK. And this video reminds me how I initially felt : puzzled by all these mysterious tools and constantly fiddling until I found the one I needed. It took me a while to figure out what was where, and even longer to learn how to use all these tools. The knife manual was rather useless for this learning curve, and actually I'm still learning new ways to use my SwissChamp thanks to such videos. I like the way you use mnemonics... That will help in the initial discovery phases. But in the end, what you really need is practice, every day, until "muscle memory" kicks in and your fingers find every tool by themselves. My everyday beater is now a lighter Spartan-like vintage pocket knife I inherited from my late grand-father and the heavy Swisschamp is more often in a drawer, but I still find instantly where is what on my SwissChamp.

    Happy Sunday Anne, you are adding subscribers at an incredible rate, you will easily make 1K and sail past it to 2K soon enough. I don't have any SAK with more than 5 tool layers so I don't have trouble finding the tools that I want to use but your little guide to the tools on the Swiss Champ will be useful to any new owners of the Swiss Champ watching. Since I last commented on your channel I have been hunting for some of the soon to be discontinued 85mm Delmont range that I don't already have that still can be bought new in box at a reasonable price & found one that I have been looking for for some time, the S52. It's a 5 layer locking blade evolution handled SAK with scissors, pliers, wood saw & a locking main blade, all tools that I use frequently & it's the equivalent of the Victorinox Motorist, a discontinued one production run model made in the mid to late 90's which I have in my collection in unused condition albeit it came unboxed & without the original paperwork as it was a display model. Victorinox currently has nothing like it in its line up, the seller on eBay in Australia had only 2 left so I bought one. Already most Delmont 85mm models & many of the 39 doomed SAK's are out of stock by me locally on a number of websites that I buy from. Next on my wish list of doomed SAK's to buy is the 91mm Cybertool Lite, its currently on offer at a 40% discount by me but still costs the equivalent of $111 with free deliver (down from $185) which will stretch my piggy bank if I buy it. I have a Cybertool M, bought a few years ago when it was on sale so apart from the LED light & the magnifying glass the Lite model does not add much in the way of tools to justify its high price over the M model . My guess for the steep discount is my local retailer wants to get rid of the doomed SAK's ASAP - the Cybertool S, the 74mm Executive, 58mm Manager & the Delmonts 14 & S17 are already out of stock since last week as soon as SAK fans find out about the discontinuations. the Vic Champion and Wenger Tool Chest Plus are my largest knives. I don't carry them around, but I imagine it can be frustrating to find some of the tools on the larger knives at a glance.
    On a related note...When I hold most of my SAK's with the shield facing me and to the right, I can quickly find the nail nick in the main blade (without looking at it) and open it with my right thumb. The blade always opens out and to the right. Not so with the Rambler. The main blade is not in the same location and the nail nick is on the plain side. My wife recently gave me her well worn Rambler and I took the scales off to repair them. When I reassembled the knife I placed the scale with the shield on the side with the nail nick on the main blade. Now I don't fumble around while looking/feeling for it.

      George that is such a great knife hack! I bought a Rambler a while ago because I thought the manager was too expensive. I love that combo tool!

    • @georgelewis7154
      @georgelewis7154 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thevineclimber Yes, it has the same tools as the S54. The compass is functional and it can be removed from the ruler, which is especially convenient if you want to set it on a map for more precise directions. The funny little wrench works on 5/16 inch nuts and smaller.
      I like the Tool Chest Plus (TCP) because it is a piece of Wenger history and they will never be manufactured again, but it is doubtful I will ever carry it outside of the house. It is a handful at 1-5/8 inches thick and 7.7 oz (how does that compare to your XLT?). About 15 years ago a local sporting goods store priced them at 1/2 off, so I couldn't resist, otherwise it's very unlikely I would have bought one. With the TCP and similar large knives, such as your XLT, we can brag to our neighbors that we have the biggest SAK on the block. 😁

    For the scale tools, especially since the pen and the tweezers have the grey color on the tip, the toothpick and pen go together and the tweezers stand alone (on the cross side). Or, the pen is always at the 'top' of the scales, if you prefer to keep track that way. (I also suspect that most who own models that have plus scales and ones that don't just notice the the difference and know where the pen is because of that.) I'm almost positive that's true on any plus scales on any model that has them.
    Of course, the other solution is to use the colored versions of the tweezers since the pen is only offered with the gray tip.
